Only one of the ladies was really good with her though, so I'm glad that she got her to do her nails. Her nails ended up being more expensive because I chose the non-toxic nail polish for her instead of the standard polish, which I would've thought would be included, since you'd only want non-toxic for a child? So it was $15 for a manicure vs the advertised $10. My standard pedicure was $40, and didn't include anything special. So all in all, it's in a convenient location in downtown Wilmette, surrounded by cafes and restaurants, relatively easy parking, about the same price as other places, but just wasn't amazing in terms of cleanliness, comfort, or friendliness.

No sign that anything is cleaned, much less sterilized. In addition, they had a very partisan news channel on. I don't want news while I'm trying to relax and enjoy a mani/pedi. My first time there I was going to a black tie wedding and I wanted a mani pedi to meet the fanciness of the event. Ly, the daughter in the family looked at my dress in a photo and immediately said, "what I love with navy is..." and picked an ordinary-looking but outstanding color that I wouldn't have known was that beautiful. Her mother, Anna, was my nail artist and gave me the most perfect oval shape because try as I might, square nails don't look good on me. Anna's leg massage with a gentle scrub was relaxing enough almost to put me to sleep. Anna's son, David, came over and asked if I'd like a soft drink and when I said no, he offered to make me a cup of green tea that I happily accepted. In addition to the high level of skill at Sophia, (Ly's nail art is already legendary at a local school) the vibe is friendly and warm. I have been only to Sophia's since my first time in the summer of 2025. Why would I go anywhere else? Update: Anna has done a beautiful job on my pedicures from when I first went to Sophia's a year ago. I called last minute yesterday and David (Ly's brother, Anna's son) was available. I always get a little nervous with my toes with new people as thick skin behind a few of them has grown up the backs of the nails leaving me exposed to having my skin accidentally cut when my toes are groomed. David approached them with the precision of a surgeon, for a pain-free, worry-free pedicure, leaving me in better shape than when I arrived. I am sure the wonderful leg massage was responsible for my great night's sleep.

That may explain some of the other reviews. I tend to go on days that are quieter and always get good service. I especially like the windows that add brightness to even the gloomiest of Chicago days. Recommend.

I've been coming to this salon for years when I visit my parents, and unfortunately my most recent…read morevisit was a huge disappointment. I went in on New Year's Eve with my mom, and we spent around $240 total for both of our services. I personally got gel extensions, and within one day, my nail started lifting and came off. Over the next few days, multiple nails completely popped off, including my thumb -- while I was on vacation and not doing anything rough on my hands. I don't pick at my nails, I wasn't cleaning, and I normally get gel extensions that last 3+ weeks, so this was very unusual. I reached out immediately and sent photos. Customer service offered 50% off my next visit, even though I clearly explained that I live out of state and only come back about once a year. I asked if a partial refund was possible given the situation and the cost, and after that, they stopped responding entirely. What's most frustrating is that after looking at Yelp, I see many recent reviews describing the exact same issue -- gel nails lifting or falling off the next day, paired with very high prices. I'm disappointed because I used to trust this place, but between the quality issues, pricing, and lack of follow-through, I won't be returning.
