Ruby's has a sign that says 20% discount on nail services before 10am if you book an appointment. I booked an appointment and went before 10am to apply nail polish on both my hands and toes. HOWEVER, at the end of the service they don't me that the discount doesn't apply to a polish change. How is polish change not "nail service"? I've had a few manicures and pedicures here now, and it's not my first choice. They are usually pretty busy because of Northwestern being nearby and their Tuesday discounts for faculty, staff, and students. I go to them because of their location and reasonable prices, but this week I went for one of the worst pedicures of my life. I had a wonderful gel mani and reg pedi here yesterday! I paid $70 which I think is a lot but I never get gel so I don't know if that's the going rate! Susie did such a great job, especially with the cuticles which to me is the most important part. She polished very evenly and over the entire nail and cleaned the sides well. My nails were long but with a few broken so she filed them evenly without making them all too short. She gave a lovely massage with warmed up cream and offered a free glass of wine as it was a Wednesday. They played friends, the massage chairs worked well and the whole salon was clean and relaxing. Bride made a reservation for her and her bridesmaids to get a manicure or pedicure. She was told they could accommodate party of 4 if they arrive between 5:30-6:30 on a Thursday. I arrived at 6:30... as I was saying hello I was asked to please go pick my color. They proceeded to sit me across the room from the rest of the party. Ruby's is great! My no chip lasts 3-4 weeks and I am pretty rough on my hands. There prices are pretty average for the area but they have some great deals Monday-Wednesday. The staff is always friendly- offering tea or water and chatting throughout your service. The facility and equipment are very clean. They also have great TV on- movies or Friends! This was the worst experience. It is not clean the lady doing my nails didn't even change her gloves between customers. She then cut my nails unevenly and painted my nails with streaks. The owner yelled at me saying It is my fault. The owner also yelled at multiple people while I was there. The salon was gorgeously decorated. The nail technicians were super sweet and knowledgeable. They had Friends playing on their TV (which was a major plus :p ). I'm super glad I found this salon. I brought my mother in law here on July 3rd for a birthday mani/pedi, as well as a mani for my self. My MIL can no longer trim her toenails due to some back issues and they were rather long. Ruby nails is great! One of the best nail salons in evanston. Compared to others in the neighborhood, the quality, level of service and professionalism is much higher. Lots of colors to choose from, technicians are super friendly, and they take their time performing the services. The mani/pedi massages are especially long and lovely. I was extremely disappointed by the service at this nail salon. I had heard great things about it from other students, but I did not have the same good experience there. I tried to come around 2 but was told to come back at 4 when they had space, which was fine, but when I came back at 4 I waited another 45 minutes to get my nails done. The workers rotated between customers, not actually completing one manicure at a time. I ended up waiting so long that I had to leave with my nails half way done (they took of my old gel and essentially just scraped my nails off) because I had another commitment an hour and a half after my appointment (that i thought i was going to make). Nails look good, but my nails were scratched rather aggressively in the name of pushing cuticles back. Then what was supposed to be cuticle cutting was very quick cutting of anything in the cuticle area, skin and all. Nor surprisingly, a lot of cuticle was not pushed back or cut. Cuticles is a fiddly job and I'm quite picky, but for the price, at least my nails should've been treated just a little more gently. The nailpaint job was good. They all were very nice and accommodating to my sister, mother and I. They even gave my niece (who had her first mani/pedi :)) a lollipop and a free toy. It was pretty relaxing; they use lots of hot towels on your legs/hands and offer a hot stone massage for $5 extra (or $10 for 10min). I came to get a pedicure and manicure. I didn't have an appointment (I'm so used to walking in) and they made it seem like that was the wrong thing. It took an hour for the basic pedicure which was $35. Way more than I have ever spent on a basic pedicure. I decided against getting my nails done for the sake of time. Sat under the dryer for 20 minutes and when I went to leave, someone wrapped my feet in plastic wrap. I got home and took the wrap off and my polish was messed up. This salon used to be a wonderful, relaxing and professional experience but has been steadily going downhill. Today was the last straw. Went in for a mani-pedi. The pedicure took over an hour and was the worst I've ever had. My feet are just as dry and rough as when I went in. The technician was very distracted and out of it and didn't seem like she knew what she was doing. When it came time for my manicure, she just left! I have no idea where she went, but I sat there like an idiot for a few minutes and then decided to cut my losses and get my manicure elsewhere. Just moved to Evanston and tried a few nail salons - this is BY FAR the best. Clean, tidy, and a great gel manicure! The staff is wonderful. I went during the day on a weekday and it was quiet, but the manicurist said that appoinments are needed in the evening - clearly it's popular. They also have a punchcard for you - after 10 manicures, pedicures, or both, they give you a free one. And a free one for your birthday! Also, they hang onto it, so your wallet isn't cluttered with yet another loyalty punchcard. I will be going back! read more

Bad service. I sat down and my chair was broken. My feet were wet and she'd already removed some of my polish. When I pointed out the chair was broken (reclined back almost laying down and wouldn't move up). I was eventually offered a lukewarm option to move. The first two times i made an appointment... but the third time i walked in after work and they were more then accommodating to get me in right away. I work in Evanston, and this is my go-to place! Prices are competitive, and I've never had a bad experience, even after it made the switch from Trendy Nails. Now that it is Ruby they have a punch card and free birthday services, which is very nice. The staff is friendly, the salon is well decorated, and I have had great services here. My no-chip manicures last for almost a month every time, and they do extra things like a hand and neck massage at the end. They get four stars because they do take a long time, the services are quite slow, but that is why I love that they play chick flicks, as it gives you something fun to do while you're waiting. read more
