I stopped her will on vacation. Got on trusty Yelp to find a great nail shop in the Durham/Raleigh area. I decided on Ruby nails. I called and the customer service is amazing all my questions were answered. I arrive and one of the employees handed me the nail service menu. I picked the Lavender pedicure package with $20 gel nail upgraded. $20 is pretty steep considering being from California gel nail upgrades are $10 with any pedicure package. Every sports season I only color my nails my team colors. I went from my SF 49er color to my basketball team the golden state warriors baby!!! The owner did the translation to my nail tech with what I wanted and the owner and I had a really nice conversation he is so friendly. Since the last visit I was contacted on when I could come in to fix my last set of nails and repaint my missing toenail polishes. I did end up coming back today at 2pm to have my 2 toenails repainted (I ended up losing my pinky toe on my right foot as well). I got color 93 I believe. I decided for my nails that I would do a lighter and more sheer pink for sns (color 9,) and Hewie (sorry if I misspelled it) was able to give me a thinner and natural look to my nails. I moved to the area and July and have been on the hunt for a place that does gel extensions over natural nails, with beautiful designs, and pedicures that focus both on my nails and callous removal. I have been here several times now and can say while they do decent work, this will not be my permanent salon. Each visit, both with and without an appointment has felt rushed. The second time I visited my appointment for a pedicure wasn't taken until about half an hour after the scheduled visit. Most of the other visits have been timely, but similar feeling. The pedicures are OK- they shape the nails well, everything seems clean and there are many colors to choose from, but my feet leave feeling rough and the last time I was there the person barely touched my feet other then to dry them before polish. Also the polish chips in about a week-whereas I can usually go 3 weeks without chips on a regular pedi. My nails have been a mixed bag. The first time I visited the nail tech did a decent job with the nail design I wanted and only the solid polish wasn't great. I figured that's because I chose a matte finish and it's hard to get that perfect. This last time they didn't do the fill to the base of my nail so my fresh set looks about a week old already (see pics) also the holographic nail chrome I picked wasn't applied evenly so my nails looked chipped immediately. Made an appointment to get my nails and my toes done for my a wedding I am in. The pedicure was decent but the French tip nails did not go well. The man doing mine took over an hour and a half. He kept messing up and the owner asking multiple times to fix. Eventually both the owners said that was enough and we would have to start over. I did not have enough time to keep sitting there and they told me to come back next week to redo them. I was fine with that but they said they would still ask me to pay for them, and give me a 10% discount. They clearly wasted my time and do not put customers first so I will not be back. read more

I've been going to Ruby Nail spa for about 2 years now and it's been pretty good but yesterday I got a pedicure and the first red flag was that the lady that I've never seen there before took more than an hour to do my pedicure and I got the basic pedicure nothing special. Then I realize she starts applying too many coats of gel but didn't think nothing of it. Today when I was showering I realized that the gel had came off and that they looked way too thick. If you are a Black person or someone who stands against anti-Black racism, I implore you to avoid Ruby Nail Spa at all costs. Despite being a loyal customer for the past seven months, I had a terrible experience during my last visit on March 4, 2023. The technician assigned to me, a young male employee, made disgustingly racist comments that left me feeling shaken and appalled. For context, I am a Black woman and am generally reserved, so as he was doing my nails I was not extremely talkative. I engaged politely in a bit of small talk with him when he first started working on my nails, but otherwise mostly kept to myself. Toward the end when he was wrapping up my nails, he proceeded to say "you're not like most Black women." As you can imagine I was immediately caught off guard by this statement. When I asked him to clarify his statement that I was "not like most Black women," he proceeded to spew harmful stereotypes about Black women being "loud and always talking." Not only that, but at another point during this visit he also expressed his support for the right-wing misogynist Jordan Peterson, whose rhetoric promotes white supremacy and patriarchal values. Despite being a non-confrontational person, I couldn't let this slide without speaking up and letting this nail tech know how completely wrong he was for all that he said. I regret not being more forceful in the moment, but I refuse to let this incident go unnoticed. By sharing this experience here, I hope to prevent others from experiencing the same kind of hurtful and unacceptable behavior. So let me be clear: if you are Black or an ally in the fight against racism, do not support a business that allows for this kind of bigotry. It's time for people like this nail tech to face the consequences of their actions. read more

I chose the organic brand of nail polish and after a full week, not even one chip! It's a $2 upgrade for the polish ($4 total for fingers and toes), but highly recommend. I can't praise this salon enough! The quickest (yet still a great job) gel manicure I've ever had, the cheapest I've had in a very long time, and the friendliest service. I work in the medical field and faced no opposition to my request for short nails and not trimming my cuticles. My rating is solely based on the service i received. If you click the picture i added you will see the full set i was given TODAY looking like im due for a fill in Already. He's opened early for me, stayed late, chosen my colors, chosen my shape, chosen my designs... He really is irreplaceable! I actually followed him here from the first shop I met him at, and I have (sadly) moved away from this town so I won't be able to see him as much. However, if I need anything done for an important or special occasion, I will travel to see him because he is that worth it!
