This place was super cute with a great concept of art, music, board games, and various food and drink options. Although a bit on the pricey side, everything ordered was tasty! It can be a bit visually overstimulating for some. And when we got there the music was rather loud. But the staff was very amenable when we requested it be tuned down a bit. The volume ended up being perfect to go with our vibe of having our Sunday girls day out! Highly recommend checking this place out. It is family friendly so go with a group of friends or your kids. I found this place on TikTok and was so excited to see something local! Here's everything you need to know. When you come to Ruby Lou's parking is around the block, street side meter parking. So if you have the park mobile app it makes life easier, We came on a Friday night so all parking was taken. We ended up parking in the library parking lot. It closes at 8 and also used the park mobile app. It's right across the street. We strolled in and there was no hostess. We were so excited, every inch of this place, ceiling to floor is decorated. Talk about eye candy! We went to the bar and was given menus. We went to each room, it's about 3 rooms each beautifully decorated. There were some parents with wine and their kids running around. It was pretty chaotic so if you're expecting a chill place to sit down and eat, this is not for you. I repeat this is not for you. We took a seat in the main area, my daughter, 11 loved it. We had a couple of games at our table but did not play. We ordered the floats ($16 each) and I was sincerely disappointed. They tasted great but as you can tell in the picture these were so small. We also ordered the brisket nachos, pretzel bites, macarons. All of which totaled about $100 with tip. The food was mediocre. Everything just in warming trays. But the food wasn't the reason we came, it was for the vibes and we had a great time. I wouldn't say these were meals. More like tapas style for entree prices. When we return we will probably just do ice cream and chill. This is such a cute place, I was excited to visit. It truly is a child's imagination come to life. Went today with The Kid and this place is such a vibe. The aesthetic alone makes it worth checking out. The whole space is colorful, bright, and playful with different rooms and seating areas so it feels like you're exploring as you walk around. They have tables set up with games like Jenga, dominoes, and cards, plus things to do around the space like claw machines, cornhole, and a basketball game. It's definitely a spot where you can hang out for a while instead of just grabbing a quick bite. The bar area is cute too, with fun glassware and gold silverware that adds to the overall look of the place. The menu leans toward bougie small bites and desserts -- nachos, hot dogs, ice cream floats, pound cake à la mode, and other sweet treats. I ordered the Cloud Cake which comes covered in whipped cream, hot fudge, cherries, sprinkles, and freeze-dried marshmallows. It's definitely a dessert meant to share. The portion was generous and really fun. The price point is a little on the higher side, but if you're sharing or coming for the experience it's worth it. We even played dominoes at the table while enjoying dessert which made it even more fun. Parking in Walnut Creek can be tricky. Most of the nearby parking is metered, and even the garages usually require payment, so plan ahead. Overall this is a cute, fun spot for dessert, games, and hanging out. Ruby Lou's has a ton of potential and you can tell they spent what must have been months designing every inch of the space - it's fabulous, utterly fabulous. The entire building is such a vibe that my friend adored it, so much of it were items they would buy for their house, it just breathed joy and exuberance. The main issue is family hours. Unsupervised kids were running around playing in a space that doesn't seem built for children, standing on chairs to pull stuff down from the ceiling, grabbing items off the walls, picking up non-empty glasses, throwing things - it was a bit like being in a ball pit. Based on how rambunctious the kids were a childfree room or childfree days would likely make the space more inviting for professionals to drop in. As it is, waiting until 8pm for a peaceful spot to have some cocktails or mocktails and socialize just isn't in the cards for many, and they're likely losing out on the team-building after work Friday crowd that makes Luna Sea so popular. Ruby Lou's would be great for birthday parties and I could even see it doing well with tea parties if they had tea service on the weekends. I know a lot of adults who love the Kawaii vibe and would absolutely jump at the chance to book if they added in a high tea or a bubbles and macarons evening, I just think they need to hone in on who their customer is. All in all, the food was great and a step above the simple bar snacks I was expecting and the service was super sweet and helpful, so Ruby Lou's is a fantastic addition to Walnut Creek and we most definitely see ourselves coming back. read more

I came here with my best friend and unfortunately had a really disappointing experience from start to finish. When I walked in, I wasn't greeted at all. There were only two staff members in the back of the bar and one other customer they were focused on the entire time, so we had no idea how service worked. After waiting a bit, we ended up going to the bar ourselves and ordered two drink, a lemon drop and a Moscow mule, then went to sit in another room. It took about 30 minutes to get our drinks, which was surprising considering we were basically the only people there. We also ordered a charcuterie board, and by the time it came out, it was already 9:45 PM and they close at 10. While we were trying to eat and talk, right at 10 PM someone got on a mic and made an announcement that sounded like they were telling us they were closing. It felt very impersonal and unnecessary, especially since we were the only two customers there, they could have just come up and spoken to us directly. Then at 10:03, the bartender actually turned off the lights in the room we were sitting in while we were still finishing up. They claimed he was testing the lights. That felt extremely disrespectful. I went up to pay and expressed how disappointed I was with the service, the long wait times, lack of communication, and overall experience. The staff offered us another drink, which I declined. On our way out, my friend forgot her jacket, so I went back in to get it and asked to speak to a supervisor. The person who turned off the lights off had been the supervisor the whole time and yet not apologized or nothing.I explained again how rude and unprofessional everything felt, and he offered vouchers, which I also declined because I have no interest in returning. We spent about $75 here, and between the poor service, long waits, and mediocre drinks, it was not worth it. Gahhh, it kills me to give Ruby Lou's only 3 starts because it has SO much potential. You can tell a lot of love went into putting this place together. Aesthetically it passes for a kid friendly restaurant/ bar while also passing for a fun adult only environment for a night out. That said, the food and drinks were a major miss! That's ok though, you guys have time to figure it out -- changes do need to be made though if you want to last. 1. Adults want bougie cocktails. This means fresh ingredients, not vodka with dive bar mixers. Hire a mixologist who can turn this place into a a cocktail heaven! 2. It's clear that you're not a restaurant but instead closer to bar bites. Nobody wants snacks they can get at a little league snack shack. They want delicious food! We had such a fun time at RubyLou's! Walking in honestly felt like stepping into a girly, pink, magical version of Disneyland. The decor is absolutely amazing -- every corner is picture-worthy and so thoughtfully designed. It's such a fun spot for photos and just soaking in the vibe. The claw machines were a blast, and the ice cream was super fun too. It really feels like an experience, not just a place to eat. We've heard they're working on expanding and improving their unique cocktail menu so stay tuned and perhaps stick to the wine and beer for the time being. I was so excited to bring my 11 year old daughter and her friend here. I'm so disappointed. The place was trashed from a private party this morning. None of the board games have any game pieces in the box. I asked them about it and they just said "sorry." As I waited at the bar to ask about the board games and to order, several people just went about their business and ignored me for way too long. $12 for a small basket of stale popcorn. It tasted like the yellow stuff you get in a big bag and it's excessively salty. If it was freshly popped, it was hours ago. 1 star for the esthetic and 1 star for the music over the speakers. We liked all of the food but ended up spending over $100 for snacks for 3 people. Another issue I had was that it wasn't really accessible for disabled people. They have a very small elevator for a wheelchair but not everyone who is disabled needs the use of one. There were two small steps that were tricky to navigate but not impossible. The final challenge was that I had two neurodivergent young adults who became overwhelmed as the restaurant started to fill up closer to six on a week night. We were actually scouting this out for our nonprofit group that serves the neurodivergent community but both ND young adults that came with me didn't feel there was enough for them to want to come back a second time. Really cute concept that is unfortunately overpriced and isn't inclusive of everyone. read more

Celebrated my girlfriend's birthday here with a mixed group of men and women and while we all agreed we wouldn't come here weekly, we did enjoy it. The venue is a visual smorgasbord! Creative in many ways- 5 star for the ambiance. We did enjoy their cocktail floats but next time, we'll save them for the last cocktail of the night. I would highly recommend RL for a young girl party (boys included!) and a ladies night out for cocktails. NOTE- RL is a new business and like all new businesses things take time. Cute place with potential. The girl working the counter was helpful when we first walked in, but unfortunately that's where the positives ended. We were there for about 12 minutes total. After being told we could order either at the counter or via QR code, we sat in the second dining/playroom area. It quickly felt chaotic, parents enjoying $22 glasses of wine while not really supervising their kids made it hard to relax. The menu situation was frustrating. Items listed on the physical menu weren't available or didn't appear online, which led to my husband standing at the counter for 7 minutes getting redirected multiple times just trying to ask basic questions. We tried moving to the main dining area, which has some claw machine-style games, but those are cash-only, with no ATM on site. Apparently, the solution is to walk a couple blocks in the rain... hard pass. After seeing the food, it looked mediocre at best. Definitely not worth $18 for a hot dog or dressed-up popcorn. Overall, it feels like a place with a lot of hype but not much follow-through. Staff seemed like a mix of helpful and overwhelmed, with some just acting like typical clueless teens. I was there with five people, and I can't even count how many times each one of us had to go up and have our bill fixed. I said I wanted to buy a drink and the gentleman behind the bar slid a melted drink my way and said "I made it for her but do you want it" "her meaning another woman behind the bar. It was not a fresh drink... the menu items they offered were very very very, very basic Costco food with about a 300% up charge. One average scoop of average ice cream is over $10. This place is...confusing. They want to make it inclusive of families but also an adults only lounge and what they settled on didn't land well. We went there with our kids and it is insanely overpriced. A small tiny scoop of ice cream with a few chocolate chunk pieces was $11 with tip. The menu is sparse and then the adult drinks are the ones you'd first try when turning 21. Also, during the family hours the music was so loud and playing sounds with inappropriate language. Super cute spot! The decor and thought put into every detail is insanely impressive. I wanted to check this place out after seeing some targeted ads on Instagram (I guess those did their job), and it definitely lived up to the vibe I was hoping for. I was surprised to see the low reviews- I can understand a bit of where they are coming from, but I feel they are unwarranted given that the business literally just opened. I don't believe they have even had their grand opening yet, so there are some pretty expected growing pains. The place is surprisingly huge, and if they were ever at max-capacity I am not sure how the current staff (owner + 2 employees) would keep up with demand. When you first walk in, it looks like a small business, but the design of the building is split into multiple rooms, so there is tons of space to spread out. They definitely need a few more people behind the bar to keep up with the food/icecream/drinks ordered. The claw machines were much loved by my kids. A tip for Ruby Lou's would be to have a change maker, or a way for the machines to accept credit cards. They are bills/coins only, so my kids had to continue to bug the staff to get change, and the staff was already at their max. If you are easily offended by unedited versions of Chappel Roan, Sabrina Carpenter, and Olivia Rodrigo songs, this place may not be the spot for you (I for one appreciated the girl power vibes). If you are looking for a fun hang where children and adults can both have a great time, then I think this place is awesome. It's beautiful and a unique idea.
