Loved this place! Saloon atmosphere, delicious bison steaks and baked potatoes. You have to pay for your alcohol seperately because it comes from a separate business upstairs and the saloon outfitted women come to your table to take the drink orders. We truly enjoyed the atmosphere which is like an old time saloon and restaurant. Hostess and cocktail waitresses are dressed in old fashioned attire which was awesome. We had a ribeye and BBQ ribs and both were excellent. The only thing I found annoying was that the servers can't serve alcohol so you have to track down a cocktail waitress. We needed a place to eat and pizza was not going to cut it for us. We started in the bar and had a drink and learned that you couldn't get food there so we transferred to the restauranty. Our server transferred our ticket and was nice about it. FYI - the bar and restaurant are under separate ownerships and you have to pay your bar tab separate from your restaurant tab and you have two servers, your main dinner server and your bar server. Anyhow, we each ordered the buffalo burger and at $10 a pop, you got more fries than burger. The burger was a previously frozen one and not fresh prepared - bleh. The fries were hot and decent, however, the potato wedges were pretty darn good. Filled with bacon and cheese and topped with chives and sour cream, they were the best part of the meal. I ate here with a big party of six late during our day in Keystone, we got seated right away because of the time. The decor is very fitting for the place. Guns and buffalo skins mounted on the walls. We ordered potato skins for appetizer, they were big and delicious. Lots of real bacon on top, not the little "bacon bits." The bar and restaurant were seperate, but the guy from the bar was helpful and cheerful and they served good local brews. Food was all good. I liked this place...it was full or locals and tourists all eating together. It was quite a crowd for such a little town. The restaurant was nice and the decor wasn't really to my taste but it was cool. The menu was impressive as well as the kids menu (which we didn't need). Lots of people stopped by to ask where we were from which lead to a lot of discussion of New York City which none of the locals I talked to had ever been to. We ate here for dinner. For starters, my husband and daughter had side salads. It looked fresh. My son and I had cups of the soup of the day, bean and ham. The soup had lots of ham in it. It was very good. It wasn't until our meal was almost over that we saw other waitresses serving other tables with baskets of bread. Our waitress did not offer us bread. When we asked her about it, she stated she did not think we would want bread. ??? Our son did not have any bread with his meal. She should have at least offered him bread. My husband and I had the Indian Taco. It was very good. It's a fried bread with taco meat, beans, lettuce, cheese, salsa, tomato, and sour cream. Our daughter had the buffalo stew in a bread bowl. I ordered the Buffalo Burger and it was cook to perfection. It was tender, juicy, the bun perfectly toasted, and the lettuce and tomatoes fresh, zero imperfections. The fries were fried crisp but not too crisp so that the potato wasn't tender, it was perfect. To add on, the service was excellent and fast not to mention the wonderful traditional American atmosphere to the restaurant, there was nothing like it. The Ruby House was recommended by the Econo Lodge hotel staff in Keystone after someone asked where to get a good steak. Went in around 8:30pm and there were plenty of tables. The atmosphere is western saloon style. Guns and ol' timey photos all over the walls. -------------- Service: Hostess was very nice to me upon entering although she seemed slightly surprised that I was eating alone. I was literally the only one. My server was Donovan. Service was immediate. Was very attentive to my needs. Water refilled instantly. Checked on my frequently. ------------- Food: Rib-eyes are usually the best behind a filet because they have that fire grill taste and crunchiness on around the edges. Steak was very juicy, decently tender for a rib-eye, and was actually too big for me to finish. Steak was slightly too salty. Onion rings were the best onion rings I've ever had. Thick batter on the rings which soaked up the steak juice very well. Salad: just a house salad. Blue cheese was very good. This place is just an "ok" place to eat. I have ate at much better places. I had Prime Rib, which was just average for Prime Rib. My Husband had a Cajun pasta dish... again, it was average. All of my kids ordered different things... a hot dog off the kids' meal (the Wal-Mart bun was rock hard, so my son just ate the hot dog and left the bun lay), prime rib sandwich, and the salmon. Again, it was all just average. Nothing to do back flips over that is for sure. The prices seemed a bit high for what you got even for a tourist town. The sevice was fine... better than the food. Ate here twice while staying in town for Sturgis. First night 3 of the 4 had a special, Bourbon Ribeye. It's on the menu normally but the special was larger. Steak was cooked a perfect medium rare and delicious char and flavorful. Sides were all good. Filet was nothing to write home about just okay. Second night buffalo steak was just a leaner beef..prime rib was a little over but everything was still good. Great fresh bread and salad to start. The service here is the real winner. Visiting Mt. Rushmore had lunch here. Old time saloon atmosphere. Server was nice and attentive. Refilled our drinks constantly. Food was ok. Price was ok. I ordered the Indian Taco, basic scone with beans and Lettie tomatoes w salsa. Wife had BBQ chicken sandwich, it had no BBQ sauce and had to ask for it. Daughter had nachos that were microwaved hard, came with salsa. Son ordered from kids menu chicken strips and fries. He had one bite and ended up eating half my my wife's sandwich. Chicken tastes "fishy" Temperature was perfect not too hot or too cold. Kids received a sheriffs badge. Very kind and removed the charge for chicken strips with out any prompting. Interesting decor including authentic antiques. Partner had the buffalo chopped steak, which came out perfectly cooked, flavorful, and delicious. I ordered the chicken fried steak. The steak was ok, it would have benefited by being seasoned before battering, the batter also was a bit bland. The gravy was undercooked, so had a strong raw flour taste. Our server was very nice and checked back with us often. Felt a little bad for the cocktail waitresses in the red and black old west saloon girl outfits. The costumes looked like they were purchased in a party accessory store, one sported black tennis shoes and black footie socks with hers. Alright, you're in Keystone so right there you have to know what sort of places you're in for. Ruby House is one for the tourists with decor that looks like a strange mix of brothel, indian trading post and saloon. It's cute and offers plenty to look at. I saw some mention of gunfire in a previous review but we got no such treatment during the lunch hour. The food here was pretty good. Not great, but likely better than the other joints along main street. A pretty good children's menu which was nice. My daughter got prime rib off of it. How often is prime rib on the kid's menu!?! Also, they serve sarsparilla which it seems you need to drink while here. It's a local (to the state) brewed brand out of Sioux City. I had one as well as the kids and it was pretty good. I had a buffalo melt and it was so-so. The buffalo was a bit dried in places but otherwise was tasty. My wife had the rainbow trout almondine and it was a hit. Even the kids lined up to help mom finish it off. Son order cheese pizza and it looked fairly standard. As I mentioned earlier my daughter had the prime rib and it was also good. She really enjoyed it as it was sooo grown up. Service was outstanding and really between it and the decor gave this place another star. Don't come expecting awesome cuisine but hopefully you'll have a good lunch with some nice eye candy. read more

So what do you recommend... Our waiter, Justin, quickly rattled off that he loved the country fried steak, buffalo patty and the turkey bacon quacamole sandwich. We opted for the patty and turkey bacon. I ended up upgrading to the onion pedals because he also highly recommended them. Atmosphere is very cool there is plenty of things to look at once you order your food. Mostly western style paintings and then replicas of various portraits Lincoln etc. I had the buffalo patty melt which was very good not sure if I'd call it a patty melt considering how many mushrooms and onions they piled on. Fries nothing special but onion petals were pretty good. The turkey sandwich was very good but different would be great on a hot day. read more

Stopped in for lunch - I ordered the bison soup in a bread bowl. The portion was very generous (some restaurants cut a small opening in the bread and your soup is done after a few sad spoonfuls.) The bison was meaty and flavorful, with a modest amount of bison meat. Only dig was the soup overall was a bit too salty. I went for lunch yesterday afternoon and had a good experience, went back for dinner and it was terrible. When we arrived we put our name on the list and was given a pager. We took the pager and went into the shops in town, after 20 minutes we went to check on our table and were told that there was still 2 tables ahead of us, so we decided to go across the street and buy fudge for later. We opened up the door to the fudge shop walked in and the pager went off so we left the fudge place walked back to restaurant and was seated. I left my husband to order for me and went back across the street for fudge. When I got back he said the waitress said someone had to come and get my wine order she couldn't take it, so I waited and waited until the appetizer came out and asked the bus girl if I can have a drink she then went to get the woman from the bar to take my order, by the way the waitress never told them at the bar that I wanted a drink. Then I waited again and again and said something to the waitress and her response was basically not my problem we don't sell alcohol that's a different business, however I'm still your table and want service. The woman from the bar came with my wine and was very apologetic and I appreciated that since I waited so long as for the hostess that didn't know what she was doing and the waitress with the bad attitude I was very disappointed. read more

They would be a 5 if they could cook a medium prime rib that isn't gray and unseasoned, and it was a pain to deal with the cocktail server that couldn't get his stuff together. Our meal server was a fantastic young man. The bison ribeye was entirely opposite from my prime rib. The bison was flavorful, perfectly cooked, and delicious. I wish I had ordered it. Their chicken dumpling soup was creamy and delicious. We also really enjoyed the dessert recommend by our server.
