This place is charming and great food! We had dinner here three times this week and today they opened for the season for lunch. We decided to go again! I had a delicious BLT salad. My husband had a "Brotherly Love Burger" with a side of coleslaw. He said it was outstanding. The burger sported Swiss cheese, peppers and mushrooms. The choices in town are largely pizza places, so this place is a gem for real food! Wish we lived closer!

Breakfast was amazing, good service friendly staff. Also came back for our final diner in Keystone area. They also have cabins to rent , cool place right off the main highway.

Great place to get breakfast! Lots of options on the menu. I enjoyed a nice sized order of biscuits and gravy. They were good and plenty. Excellent service too! They also have a fantastic gift shop of unique items.

Nice restaurant serving game, fish and steaks. Entrees we had were delicious...bison steak and walleye. The salads could have been better...used iceberg; we got veggies as a side they were meh. Service was stellar. Local flair. Enjoyed our meal.

Wonderful ambience for a date night in this older cabin restaurant. Waitstaff was very friendly and interacted sweetly with our boys. Food was good, we had the Cajun pasta and chicken cordon bleu with mashed potatoes. A family tradition of ours to come here for 4 generations now when we vacation to the black hills.

Just located up the road from the hustle and bustle of tourist town. Drive to this spot!! May have to best french fries in the universe that are crispy and yet fluffy inside. Their sandwiches are excellent, the Cuban was pressed perfectly on fresh bread. They offer a bison stew in a bread bowl that almost everyone else was enjoying. This was a perfect meal, away from the tourist hoopla and so good with great service in an old school vibe lodge setting.

    Pork shank

Fantastic gourmet food at really reasonable prices. The pork shank is spectacular and can easily feed two. My wife loved her buffalo meatloaf and my prime rib was great, as always. Our server Clark was excellent and always available without being intrusive.

Staff were nice and friendly, had a bit of a wait, about 45 minutes, we didn't have reservation. Our food were just ok. My powder house steak tasted pretty dry for medium doneness, it's just very underwhelming. My husband had the Buffalo and it came out medium rare, wait staff didn't ask how he wanted it cooked so we assumed it was all 1 type of temp, my husband had to send it back. The night special ribeye came out nice according to my daughter but she said it's "average good" . We got curious of the high rating, we tried it. Inside seating ambiance seems nice but we were seated outside, sort of garage setting dining.

What a charming, delicious place! There aren't many highly rated eateries among the cluster that is close to the Mount Rushmore landmark, however this place is just a mile or two outside of that--totally worth it. Powder House (also their lodging) has been around for decades and the patio views are breathtaking. Our server was adorable, energetic and helpful (forgot her name, sorry!). I ordered the Queso burger, subbing a side salad (a little small perhaps) for fries, which was crisp and delicious with (I'm guessing) homemade ranch dressing. The burger's attention to detail included crispy crumbled bacon, crunchy dill pickles, Queso (could have used more imo), jalapenos, and the ever sublime toasted Brioche bun. In the dining room, you'll feel like you're at a cross between a retro ski lodge and vintage log cabin.

    Game Sampler

While traveling through the Black Hills en route to Mt. Rushmore, we followed a recommendation from our hotel staff and made our way to the Powder House Restaurant--a rustic yet refined spot nestled in the pines. The menu leaned heavily into regional specialties, and I couldn't resist the Game Sampler: a trio of Buffalo Short Ribs, Elk Medallion, and Buffalo Sausage. The short ribs were a standout--fork-tender and richly glazed in a sweet barbecue sauce that balanced the natural depth of the buffalo meat beautifully. The buffalo sausage brought a welcomed kick of spice, with a smoky finish that lingered just long enough. But the highlight may have been the elk medallion, perfectly cooked and paired with fried apples--a subtle, thoughtful touch that added a layer of sweetness to the lean, flavorful cut. Though thoroughly satisfied, I couldn't pass on dessert. The chocolate lava cake, served à la mode, arrived warm and decadent, its molten center spilling onto the plate beside the cool, creamy vanilla ice cream. It was the ideal finale to a meal that was both hearty and elevated--a true taste of the region, executed with care.

We stopped in on a Saturday evening and they were able to get squeeze us in! Olivia, our server, was fantastic and very attentive. The food came out promptly and was delicious! The ambiance was pure cabin and pure South Dakota. Can't recommend this enough! Thank you!

My seven year old son was thrilled to have his "own space" in the loft area. The loft was equipped with a sleeping mat, bedding, TV, a fan, and a couple of bean bags. It was the perfect area for him to have. My husband and I had the master bedroom, and each of our daughters had their own bed/space with the second bedroom and the pull out couch in the living room where a room divider could be pulled for some privacy. The fact that we all had our own space, two bathrooms, and an outdoor space available to us made it far better than a hotel room. The cabin was very clean and stocked with all the basics you could need, like dishes, glasses, cookware, coffee maker, toaster, stove/oven, fridge, microwave, etc. The cabin also had a nice little deck, a picnic table off the deck and a BBQ grill. My son loved The Fun Zone, and the girls and I enjoyed sitting along the creek. For us, there was no cell service in the area and the resort does not have WiFi, so be prepared for that fact. The location is close to many conveniences and tourist sites in the BlackHills. If you are looking for something extremely fancy or luxury, then this place is not for you. However, if you are looking for something comfortable, convenient, and clean that provides a little something more as far as space and peaceful outdoor living, then you will enjoy your stay here. My family and I sure did. We will definitely plan to stay here the next time we are in the BlackHills.

We were driving a rental car, that had a wonky license plate that was hanging on by one screw. As we walked in the restaurant manager had noticed our license plate, and offered to help us fix it when we were finished. He then sat us in a partially full dining room, which is beautifully decorated. I went with the bison chili, and it was super tasty! For me, it was a little bit on the spicy side, but I know for a lot of people they would love it that way. I asked for a side of cornbread, as I had just ordered a cup of the chili, not the main chili meal, and they were very gracious and brought one out. The cornbread was also super delicious! As we finished our meal, it had started to rain. The manager stood by his offer to help us with the license plate, and met us just up the road a bit at a place where the maintenance supervisor's truck was located so that he could get us a zip tie to fix our license plate. It was such a nice gesture, and we appreciated that he went out of his way to help us. We would highly recommend the Blue Bell Lodge!

Riders beware before you book READ THIS!…read more We booked this spot based on the website stating "trail access" . I ended up calling due to questions around the permit needed to access trails. I was told to purchase one in town at the Conoco or somewhere else that sells them, ok fine no problem any other places that sell them?? Silence on the phone....crickets...ok ...then I asked about the trail access, hoping to get a site close to it because we have a side by side and I was told, and I quote "oh that trail is very small ", ok, how do we access the the other trails, "I am not sure you would have to call and find out ", really, you don't know the trail system but advertise trail access and have utv/atv pictures plastered on your website. Frustrating. When I said let me speak with my husband we may cancel if we can't access the trails, response was "ok"....huh?!? I mean, your not even going to ask me how you can help or get me a number or I mean just anything helpful? NOPE! She then went on about possible snow at the tree line and that we most likely couldn't ride, but to call and find out, nothing provided to help me find this out! How do you NOT know this, you have trail access? So again, why doesn't it say "seasonal" trail access or a disclaimer to verify trail access with maybe a link or something....anything!?? She then tells me, your UTV has to be licensed, street legal to ride the road to the other trails, but still doesn't know where they are but most likely closed. Small trail map on thier website but when I asked about this trail, wasn't sure if that was a trailhead or the small one she told me about, frustrating. Now, I fully understand, the person who was speaking to me, who was very nice and very pleasant, could be wrong or not understand trails, but for $65 dollars a night and a permit fee on a "hope" to ride, just no. I feel the website is misleading, staff not informed about trail system, SMH. Now, on the site they have a small trail map, is that the trail they are referring to the is small or is this a trail head, is there another trail, THEY HAD NO CLUE. I am aware that as a rider you have to do research, ultimately it's up to us to find trail maps, know the laws etc...but don't advertise trail access and you can't tell me where, how to access, how far is the trail, is it open.....basic questions, should have answers. We have been on a ton of trails, ORV parks, traveling through the US riding and each place provided so much more information, extremely helpful. We canceled at this Campsite due to lack of help or information. Booked today at 9:50am, called with questions then decided to cancel at 12:30pm same-day, still charged $25 dollars to cancel, I understand about covering cost and time, but honestly your staff is not well informed to help riders feel confident in booking/staying.

The campsites do share water, meaning one main water faucet that is split between two campsites. The pressure isn't a problem at all. Our problem was that my camper's water was on the front left of the camper. Given the sharing, my original 20 or so foot water hose couldn't reach. Our fault for not having an extension, but we ended up having to park the other way with the camper to hook up the water. Bottom line: we are newbie campers, so just make sure you have an extension.
