We ate here yesterday. Walked in, we were sat immediately. Our waitress was attentive and friendly. It's an older place, but that is what is expected here. So, my friend ordered the fried mushroom appetizer and, even thought I HATE mushrooms, I was forced to try one, and to my surprise it was really good! For entrees,my friend had Prime Rib, which looked amazing, and according to my friend, it was :) I had the Bison Stew, OMG it was the bomb!! So good, served in a bread bow, the bread ?? Stopped here for dinner at this Victorian restaurant just outside of Mount Rushmore. The service was prompt and attentive. Please note the bar is separate from the restaurant so you will have 2 servers and 2 bills. I ordered the prime rib 8 oz. and it was more than enough cooked perfectly and with all the appropriate sides offered, I had the Zolo Malbec (spicy notes) which paired extremely well with my entree. My husband had the buffalo burger and said it was a flavorful meat. If you are in Keystone, South Dakota it is definitely worth the stop. we walked in and asked one of the servers if it was ok to sit at the patio table for a few drinks, she said of course. We were done, getting ready to go and a heavy set woman, probably 23-30 walked up and asked us if we were eating lunch there, we replied no, she then said in a very condescending way " then you need to move" and she walked away! There were at least 6 tables and only one other was full. Her customer service skills were highly lacking and so rude. Won't be back. read more

Nice touristy Wild West atmosphere in the heart of the cute town of Keystone! Enjoy a drink in the saloon adjacent to the restaurant while you wait for your table if you're coming for dinner and listen to the country singer on stage. Try the Hybiscus Refresher or a local craft beer on tap! Although when you get to your table the dinner and drinks are on a separate bill, the nice bar maids come by and take care of you along with the waitress. We had the Prime Rib and fettuccine Alfredo. Very nicely down and delicious. Take a look around after with the cool pictures and Wild West atmosphere. A must! read more

Stopped here for dinner on our vacation to the Black Hills. Very friendly and attentive staff. Service was quick and efficient. I had a steak and baked potato. Steak was cooked exactly like I wanted it and the baked potato was perfect. My wife had their chicken tender dinner and she said it was ok. Just your normal run of the mill chicken. Our party of 8 ate here for supper. They were able to seat us quickly. Service was great and our food came very timely. We ordered the sampler platter appetizer. My first time having fried green beans. Everything on the platter was great. It was very large portion. My brother's family ordered the fried mushrooms and once again a very nice size portion. My family had the Walleye, Bourbon steak, Chicken Parmesan and the Chopped Bison steak. Everything was soooo good. Will definitely eat here again, ne g visit. read more

Ate on the outdoor patio after a long drive from Kansas City to Keystone. Walleye was excellent (served with broccoli and wild rice) and the potato skins were enormous. Friendly staff and good price value. Only drawback is that the restaurant and adjacent bar are separate, and the live entertainment/singer in the bar is piped through overhead speakers over the outdoor dining area. If the singer-du-jour was evenly reasonably competent on Friday evening it wouldn't have been a big deal, but sadly he was awful and we were unable to escape. read more

Best food on the vacation. I normally try to avoid a place that says 'largest menu around' because I'd rather they are exceptional at a few things than mediocre at a lot. Buffalo burger was dry and tasteless. Indian taco was OK but overall boooring food. You'd have more flavor at Burger King. Average plate is $12. Service was slow and rude. We were seated for a solid 15 mins- party of 4 - had already decided what to eat (twice over). Went to ask the hostess who our waitress was after the long wait and it was the lady who had strolled past us 8 times without bothering to say "hi-be right with you". When she finally came to the table and asked for drink orders we told her we were ready to order food as well and she abruptly said - what do you want to DRINK? I'm not sure why the hooplah here. History lesson. The REAL Ruby's burned down a few years ago. The owner/s decided to replicate the original. They did a good job. However, there's nothing authentically "old west" here like say, for example, "The Silver Dollar Saloon" in Leadville, CO. If you drink, the MOST aggravating part is that the owners of the bar and the owners of the restaurant can't apparently get their act together. You have to pay for your drinks as you go as opposed to simply adding it to your meal tab. Another thing I despise being a history snob--they don't hire locals in the summer, but people who couldn't be even remotely farther removed from the old west, people from Pakistan, the Ukraine, etc. People who have NO IDEA what the "old west" was all about. I don't know about you, but when I travel, I want to see the local color. I want a waitress named Flo telling me the local gossip with a local accent and the whole nine yards, not someone from a foreign country saving pennies for college. I don't mean here to be a jerk. Everyone's got to earn a living. I DO like the fact that the "re-enactors" doing the shoot outs outside the restaurant are mostly locals. I'm cultural tourist and I want to see what I paid for, not fake things. The food is so-so. You're better off waiting to eat in Rapid City or Spearfish. read more

Really cool atmosphere, really good wings. When I ordered the buffalo ribs I had this vision of the Flinstones and getting this huge portion, well that wasn't to be. The outsides were a bit dry but once I got to the middle it was much more tender. With a good bit of BBQ sauce the ribs weren't that bad. I really liked the wings though, if I put City Grille agains the Ruby house it would be really close, in fact Ruby house might beat City Grille for the wing challenge. read more

We were on the outside deck, which might not be the same as Ruby House Restaurant. A little pricey but it is a tourist place. I would have liked a leaf of lettuce instead of half wilted shredded lettuce especially for a $7 buffalo burger. Stopped by the Ruby House after visiting Mount Rushmore, only an 8 minute drive from there. The prime rib sandwich was tender and juicy and their mashed potatoes may have ruined me for all other mashed potatoes forever, they were so good. The service was excellent, our sever, Charlie was attentive without being intrusive and gave top notch service. I definitely recommend eating here if you are in the area. Very large restaurant that was very busy. Nice décor. The food was OK We had the pork ribs, chicken parmesan sandwich and artichoke dip. The ribs were served as two half racks, and one of the racks was super tender, the other didn't really fall off the bone, but wasn't tough. I thought the smoke flavor was a bit too overpowering. For the rest of the night, my mouth tasted like a campfire. The chicken parmesan and the artichoke dip was really good. It's decent food that will satisfy. read more

Great dinner location if you're in Keystone. The setting is touristy, but not any different to the rest of the town, yet warm and big enough to accomodate big or small groups Hearty dishes with plenty of options great after a day of hiking. We shared the firy wings to start which were delicious, followed by BBQ pork ribs for me and Bison Ribs for my husband. Dishes came with salads as starters and choice of vegetables. The Pork ribs were very meaty and nicely flavoured and juicy. The bison ribs were delicious and plentyfull but 1 of the ribs (edge) was a bit dry You can get drinks from the bar next door (they'll come to your table) and once you're done with dinner you can always go to the bar for a night cap read more

The best buffalo dish we had on our 3 week trip in buffalo country. It was called buffalo chuck wagon in the menu and it was not too expensive. It came with a salad and mashed potatoes. Sides were above average, however that buffalo chuck wagon I had was absolutely amazing...medium rare and with a tasty au jus. I crave it right now as I type this review. My DH had their parmesan chicken dish which was actually a really nicely flavorful dish, however he liked my dish better with frequent picks on my dish. The quality of service varied here. We came here twice with first time being great and second time being an apologetic older lady... First time food and such was excellent, next day, food and service was ok, but not as flavorful. read more

My parents and I dined there in the fall of 2005 twice during our stay in the area and LOVED the food, ambiance and service. NO complaints! And guess who was also dining there on the Sunday night when we were there? The legendary PBS filmmaker, Ken Burns!!! He was in the area to get some kind of award. It our first time in Keystone and my mom was a BIG fan of his. She was too shy to go up to him and his entourage but my dad did and Ken and his friends were very friendly to him. I wish I would have greeted them, too, and I will always regret that. What were the odds of all this happening? It just boggles the mind!!!! I have not been to Keystone since then but we loved the Ruby House Restaurant when we were there and if I ever go back to the town, then I will go back to the Ruby House for another fine dining experience. read more
