Located in a very busy strip mall - was super happy to see that there's designated parking just for Ruby's Alternations & Cleaners' customers. Walked in to this small location and couldn't help but notice the pleasant clean smells (I'm weird, I know!) I came here to have a purse strap fixed. Ruby quickly walked to the counter. She was super sweet. I showed her the repair needed and she assessed the "damage." She asked for a week to fix it and quoted the repair fee. I was very happy with her quote, (required to be paid at drop off). I returned one week later and was pleasantly surprised with her repair. I couldn't tell where the damage was originally. Brides, please be very careful when choosing somewhere to take your dress for alterations. Here is what went wrong: 1. Ruby charged me up front for her services. 2. Ruby attempted to fix the size of the chest by sewing one push up cup on top of another push up cup. She did not go into the seam and take fabric away. Imagine a B-sized chest in two D-sized cups. You could put a whole hand in the chest area. 3. Ruby put one bustle in the back. This wasn't a big deal until the second place I went to appropriately put EIGHT bustles in. 4. Ruby managed to hem one of the inside linings of my dress dress too short and crooked. I was not able to get this part fixed. 5. On the day of my fourth fitting, I was putting the dress back in the bag and noticed a 6-inch TEAR on the outer lining. When I showed Ruby, she decided that I tore it on the visibly jagged and splintered corner of the fitting room door. She told me she could have it fixed in an hour. I went back and the tear had been covered and tacked together by small bits of lace. I could see the spots that were never sewn together and looked like little tears instead of one big one. 6. I asked Ruby to discount the services she provided me (because of the tear) and she told me no. She informed me that she wasn't the one who tore the dress and there were already other adjustments she made that she did not charge for. The dress had been in Ruby's possession since the day after I picked it up from the bridal shop. I ended up taking my dress to a well-respected alterations shop and they fixed everything for me in six days. read more

I recently bought a wedding dress which needed to be altered. Now though the wedding dress was quite cheap, I ended up paying 2.5x the cost of the dress on alterations a bustle was added, the dress was hemmed, the hips let out a little and the back straps were shortened. I was SHOCKED at how pricy Ruby and it was very obvious that other patrons were just as surprised at the cost of their items as well. BUT Ruby's work was really good. If I need little things done, I will most likely take it somewhere else for a lower price but if you have an expensive article of clothing and you want it done right, this is the place to go! read more

BEWARE OF TAILORS WHO WANT PAYMENT UPFRONT. Ruby ruined 4 sports jackets I brought in for alterations. I paid $360 for alterations upon drop off. Weeks later she called and told me they were ready. When I went to pick up, none of them were comfortable any more, new problems arose, it appeared that they were ruined; all of them. And since she likely cut them to make them smaller, they would no longer fit comfortably. Then she wanted to perform another procedure on each jacket to cure newly developed fabric rolling on the back between the shoulders . She did said she was sorry and that she did lots of work, yet offered no relief. I walked out leaving the jackets on her counter. The total loss was over $1000 considering the cost of the jackets, 3 new, 1 two years old. Beware of tailors who want payment up front! read more

I have been losing weight and brought my suit in to be taken in. The owner had me try it on and was pining every where. The cost was $97, and it was going to take a week. Well I thought that was a lot but paid it. Came back a week later and she said we need to Measure the length of the pants. When I tried on the jacket the length of the sleeve was at my wrists. I asked her if she could let it out a little and she said I did not want that I would look funny. For the pants She wanted to charge me more money and I said if I knew the total cost was over $100 I would of bought a new suit. ButI had already spent so much needed to do the rest. She went on and on how she will give me a break, instead of changing me $14 she was only going to charge $10. Total cost $104. She said everyone charges this. I told her I could've bought a new suit at Men's Wearhouse and once they take the insane men they don't charge again. She said she has family who works there and It is not correct. I just called men's warehouse and I was correct and it would've been cheaper to pay for the alterations their normal charges is less... live and learn. Never again read more

I brought in a bridesmaids dress that cost $250 and originally fit almost perfectly except for being too long and slightly loose in the straps. When I put it on the day of the wedding the clasp on the back of it broke immediately because it was sewn too small for me and we also couldn't get it to zip up. The straps were made to be so tight that they cut into my chest and neck all night. The hem is also uneven. The beautiful dress that I bought is ruined and to top things off I paid $123 for it to be done. I'm beyond pissed. I dropped it off 2-3 weeks before the wedding so it's not like I changed size in that time. read more

We found Ruby Alterations online from just a quick search on cleaners near us. The owner is a sweet and talented woman who is honest and fair with her prices and timeliness. I went there to have my wedding dress taken in after receiving a 6-10 week requirement from bridal shops, and other alteration stores. I took my dress to Ruby's and she was able to have it done in less than a week. I later brought a very fine saree, made of silk, for her to clean and she reviewed the material made sure she could take care of the integrity of the material and design. What a great experience! We brought my daughter's wedding gown here to be let out after it was taken in too much elsewhere. Ruby was able to add the fabric and tulle back in and you can not tell it was ever altered. It looks flawless and the gown looks like it was made specifically for my daughter. I really wasn't impressed with the alteration service at Ruby's. We took my daughter's prom dress in for alterations of the length and bodice. She asked if we wanted the waist altered and we said no. When we got the dress back, the dress was so tight in the waist that we couldn't fasten the eyelet without my daughter feeling like breathing was uncomfortable. We were told it had to be that tight for the top to stay up which absolutely is not true if a dress is altered correctly. My wedding dress was the same design and was not uncomfortable or tight to wear. The bodice too seemed to have been altered too small. The option we were given was to not fasten the eyelet and loosen the corset top. Loosening the corset top is fine, but there's no reason we shouldn't be able to fasten the eyelet. She has not gained a single pound since we dropped it off, so that wasn't the problem. We don't have time to take it elsewhere to fix that and these alterations cost us nearly $300 - they should have been done right. No attempt to fix the problem was made, and they seemed annoyed when we asked them to fix a piece that was falling off the bodice (they needed to hand see it back on). They moved right on to helping other customers and simply asked for our money. We will figure out a way to make the dress work, but we won't be going back. read more

This is my go to cleaners in South Charlotte. I needed a suite tailored last minute for a wedding. Not only did they take the suite within 5 days of the wedding, they also had it ready on the 4th day and they did a really good job on the measurements and tailoring. Only 4 stars because I took a genuine leather jacket here and they weren't able to clean it...but I've only found one cleaners in the city which can provide genuine leather cleaning. I had my wedding dress altered by Ruby. It was a lot of work and she did an amazing job. I was nervous about the padding in front, but I listened to her and it really made the dress fit perfectly. The only down side, was my bustle broke at the beginning of my wedding, so it was very frustrating and became an annoyance, which is something I shouldn't have had to deal with. It was a heavy dress I for as much as I loved the bustle she gave me, I felt like she should have known it was too heavy to be held up by one hook, but I just made due.
