The HIDDEN TACO SHOP! Temecula's Rubio's is definitely a tricky place to spot. It's in the same busy shopping plaza on Ynez as many other major retailers but towards the back. Apparently, it's a hit with locals and rightfully so. The fish tacos are permanently etched in my tastebud catalog. I can rely on a great meal with tasty sides (beans and chips). The service was super fast and the location is squeaky clean. I saw a gentleman cleaning the soda/agua fresca station. A salsa bar is also available at this Rubio's. I spotted plenty of tables and a long table with stools. I recommend getting a taco plate, it's the best option if you're hungry. Healthy bowls are available too if you're on a diet. read more

I ordered the fish & chips for $6.99 that comes with coleslaw slaw, and tarter sauce. I placed the pick up order at 4:30 pm online. I arrived on time and was told it's almost ready. About 10 minutes later, my food was done. I asked for extra tarter sauce and was told that is would cost another .50 cents. I declined and asked for ketchup. Once I got home, I noticed I didn't get utensils and ketchup as requested. The fish was okay and was edible. The fish needs seasoning to have a better taste. The fries needed seasoning too. The tarter sauce has jalapeños in it so it's a little spicy. The cole slaw looked and tasted different. I'm not a fan of it. I give the overall experience a 3 stars. read more

You can't go wrong with a Rubio's original fish taco! Crunchy deep fried fish in a corn tortilla with cabbage slaw and sauces. I also really like their refried beans for dipping crunchy corn tortillas in them. Yum to all! This Rubio's is very clean and inviting. read more

We ordered takeout while staying at an Airbnb in Temecula. The food arrived promptly and was warm. I had the Shrimp Taco trio, which was excellent. My partner had a Chicken Bowl. We also had Chips and Guacamole and Churros. I forgot to take pictures, but the food was good and I would recommend. read more

Either my food wasn't fresh or it was ready before the pick up time and was just sitting. The fish and chips entree was mediocre. Fries didnt taste fresh, and fish had soggy batter. I like fish and chips, so I do want to try again, hopefully it'll be better. read more

I ordered my usual shrimp and bacon burrito, and it was basically a rice burrito with 3 or 4 shrimp on it. I feel like this location is being cheap and it's very obviously reflected in the food. I often order online for either pickup or delivery. The prices are reasonable and the quality of the food is reliable. I almost always get a chicken taco and small rice and small beans, plus a bunch of picante sauce. Today was no exception. My chicken taco was full of chicken and guac. They gave me my 6 salsas. It's always clean and the employees are friendly. I know the company has had financial woes recently and I really hope they find their way out of it so that I can continue to enjoy this deliciousness. read more

Tried the famous FISHTACOSfor the first time, and they did not disappoint! They were so JUICY and DELICIOUS, especially with their mild salsa. I didn't "dine-in" but I ordered the "Fish Taco" and the "Steak Taco" which were great by themselves. The "Mango Lime Tea" was refreshing and perfect for the 90°F+ weather. I also tried the following salsa's (*day after purchase), "Tomatilla Salsa", "Picante '...'", "Jalapeño Citrus Hot", "Mild", and the "Roasted Chipotle Salsa". Out of all six salsa's the first two mentioned were my favorites. And, yes, the "Mild" and the "Jalapeño Citrus Hot" are actually mild and hot. The following review is my opinion based on the services I received from Rubio coastal grill. It was ok at best. Let's start with the tacos. The tortillas were cold and tough. The fish was fried decently. They were garnished pretty good. The salsa was ok and average. Smokey, spicy, and just ok. Good portion, decent portion really. For a big eater it might be on the lighter side. The beans are terrible. No flavor, just completely bland. Combo plates are served with chips and a small cup of beans. I would like it better if the combo plate came with better sides for what it costs. Overall unhappy, the only thing that will keep me returning is the short line. Didn't have to wait long to order and food came quick. They do have plenty of menu items that look pretty taste. I'll have to try one the next time my favorite restaurant near by has a long line. Staff is friendly and to be fair, they have decent customer service. read more

I order takeout at a Rubios maybe 2-3 Tuesdays a month, but at the La Jolla Village location. I came to this one Tues June 13, 2023 only because I was AirBnBing at a Temecula Wine Country house, and I ordered the 6 fish tacos to treat my friend for dinner the next day. Well, I had the worst experience I ever had with a Rubios, EVER at THIS location. It as because the order taker Karlo did not pay attention to the specifics of my order. I told him specifically that I wanted 6 Fish Tacos Especial to go and to package all the ingredients separately on the side. I told him that I was gonna have Debra over the next day and was going to heat the fish fillets in the toaster oven and make the tacos from scratch. Having had the two previous orders at the La Jolla store missing items, sch as cabbage, or missing one tortilla when I ordered 3, this time I checked the bag and opened the first wrapper. It was a completely assembled taco with the fish, guac, onions, etc. already inside the tortilla. In otherwords no one followed my direction that each item be packed separately. When I confronted Karlo, he said "I thought you meant you wanted each taco packaged separately". I said "You do that anyways! I told you I was gonna put the fish fillet in the toaster over the next day, now the fish is ruined cos it has all the guac and onion all over it, and the tortilla is messed up and is gonna be wet and coming apart tomorrow". He said "That's true, I forgot." So then they took back all 6 tacos. I said "You gonna throw those away?" They said yes. I said what a waste. Then I had to wait till they fried up a second batch for my order. When they presented it, all 6 fish fillets were in a bowl, where they would get all steamed and soggy. I told them I wanted them separately wrapped in foil. They got sent back. Then they gave fixings only for 1 taco! I complained this little container is only for 1 taco? the other location I buy from gives me the larger plastic sauce container full to the top with sauces or cheese for 3 tacos. The people in the counter said well here they only give this little. So they added some more containers of sauces and onion for my other tacos. I ended up spending at least 45 min at this store, all because Karlo didn't pay attention to my specifics and they didn't package anything separately as I specified. I told him it would be common sense when I already told him that I was gonna crisp the fillets in the toaster oven the next day, that the fillets not be coated inside the tortillas with guac and onions all over the fish fillets. I never had this problem at the La Jolla location, only issues I had there was they forgot the guac one time, another time forgot the cabbage, another time gave me 2 tortillas only when I ordered 3 tacos. The extra long time it took to get my order right at this store caused me to be 1 hour late to Temecula Grape Stompers, where I was going square dancing. It starts 6:15. read more

Super clean and while my food (fish tacos) took slightly longer than other locations . They were super hot , super crispy and they could not have sat but for a few seconds . I stopped by at this Rubio's after hitting the nearby gym at 24-Hour Fitness yesterday evening. There were plenty of parking spaces at any time of the day. I figured that I would need to reload on a few carbs and protein after a strenuous workout, so I ordered their Wild-Caught Shrimp & Mexican Street Corn Bowl. The bowl was topped with Mexican street corn, cotija cheese, chile lime Tajin, creamy chipotle sauce, fresh avocado slices, cilantro, onion, black beans and cilantro lime mojo sauce. I decided to eat in the facility and was surprised to see that this Rubio's actually used a deep porcelain plate and silverware. I didn't expect the stint upscale customer service. The serving was plentiful, in my opinion. The food was considerably fresh, tasty and healthy. The lead supervisor was friendly and accommodating. California steak burrito was my favorite. That burrito was something i had for the first time here and it's something i would definitely come back and order again. I also got the tacos they were alright but I think for the same price the burrito is more worth it. I also ordered a side salad which came with lemon balsamic dressing which i thought was really yummy; the dressing. On a recent trip to Southern California, I was introduced to the Rubio's Coastal Grill chain with a stop to this location. I loved it as it reminded me of a California version of Hawaiian fish tacos and burritos. It's a simple system, order up front and receive your food. Drinks are self-serve, as is the ample salsa bar. The food was fresh and delicious. I liked the quality of the seafood, the method of cooking, and crisp vegetables. All the salsas had flavor and spice. Great service! I was immediately greeted with a smile and she was ready for me to order right away. I went a Sunday afternoon and it wasn't busy, only a few families. They had nice music on which only made the place seem more welcoming. When I ordered, she gave us tips on how to get better deals and save money (very nice of her). It only took around 10 minutes for the food to come out and we had 3 big items. I had two steak tacos and 2 sides, the steak was AMAZING! I absolutely loved one of my sides, Mexican street corn. Ok first I am a BIG Rubio's fan!. But as a faithful i can see paying $16.00 for "street Tacos" & a drink. Come on by nature the term "Street Tacos" warrants a lower price point. In LA if I go to a Very Good Taco truck i wont pay near that amount! And your in Chapter 11. . Yes the meal is good but $16 for lunch is a hit on many levels. We were feeling a bit hungry after our wine tasting at nearby Briar Rose Winery (not to mention a little buzzed), so it was time to get something into our stomachs... and seeing how I had some coupons for Rubio's and that we hadn't gone to the chain in a while, we figured we'd use them! Wow, has the chain gotten a remodel... for a fast casual restaurant, they've put less emphasis on the casual. Table service (from the manager on duty, no less!), ceramic plates, metal utensils, very clean and sharp interiors - Rubio's has sure stepped up their game. The food is still on point; Kathy ordered the two Shrimp Salsa Verde taco combo, and I had the two Fish Taco Especial taco combo. No problems with our orders, though the hot carrots I got from the salsa bar were very spicy due to being marinated with a bunch of sliced and pickled jalapenos. Also, this particular Rubio's had Odwalla lemonade and strawberry citrus lemonade fountains on the beverage bar. Not sure if these options are available in my stomping grounds of San Diego (or Kathy's up in the Chino Hills area), but hopefully these are around in our areas. read more
