The oxtail was very good, plenty of oxtail, it was tender and very tasteful. The rice was coated with plenty of sauce.

I walked through the food court and gravitated towards Roywoods. I hardly ever have Caribbean food so any opportunity I get I'll take it. There was a staff member standing right in front of the cash but it turns out that he was not orders so he let me know that someone else would be with me shortly. Many times at other establishments the staff member would ignore me and walk away so I appreciate that he acknowledged I was waiting. I ordered the small jerk chicken for $9. While this isn't exactly cheap the amount of food that comes in that container is immense. You're given the option of coleslaw or veggies and I went with the veggies. There was a wait for the food since this is a popular option in the food court. The line doesn't end, customers just keep lining up. The chicken was tender and very flavourful (too spicy for me haha). It was so good that I kept at it with rice and veggies in between bites of chicken to finish it all. I'd like to try another dish next time and suffer through the spiciness again.

Love how there are many options now available at union station food court. I wanted something with carribean flavours so Roywoods was my obvious choice! The plate is generous, served with pieces of dark meat jerk chicken (no bones), rice and beans, and choice of veggies or coleslaw. This is pretty spicy!! I usually enjoy spicy food but I was digging my fork into more coleslaw to balance the flavours of spice. Overall good fast good meal. But they could balance the plate more with 1 part rice / 1 part coleslaw.

Ok so I have come back several times since my review and I have tried the curry first, BBQ chicken and more jerk chicken. I have to say that they are all good. I am torn on whether I like their BBQ chicken more or the jerk chicken but I think I have to give a slight edge to the jerk chicken. The goat was good as well though I hated sifting through the large amount of bones. I prefer the platter over the sandwich as the rice with the jerk sauce is just delicious. The bread that came with the sandwich was more like a pita. The texture was a bit weird as it was not soft but also not too hard. The portion also was not very big if you are hungry so keep that in mind. Overall it did not work for me so I will be sticking with the platter. This has become my go to whenever I need food at Union station. Definitely give it a try if you havent already.

Lately I've been living my best office life. This includes, having delicious food delivered right to my desk. I haven't quite mastered the manners around office life, and tend to order odorous things. My bad. I'm a work in progress. My team and I were craving Caribbean, and we're in the Union Station Roywoods delivery zone. We ordered two jerk chicken plates and a calaloo plate. Don't be fooled by the small containers, these lunches are dense! A nice spice without showing off.

For a food court venue, Roywoods does it well here at Union Station! Finding good, authentic caribbean cuisine in the financial district can be next to impossible! With recent construction of the Union station concourse, the food court offers some interesting choices and Roywoods is one of them. While my short lunch break didn't allow me the luxury to indulge more in their cuisine, the boneless curry chicken (yes it's not chicken curry!) with rice and veggies was a palate pleaser. For about $9 bucks I walked away with the small serving and a bottle of water to boot! Personal tip: Get there before 12pm and avoid the long but fast moving lineup!

I came here for lunch one day and it was so good I went back for lunch the very next day as well! I had the Jerk Chicken the first time and the Barbecue Chicken the second time. Below is a detailed review of each dish: Jerk Chicken: Boneless thigh meat cooked to perfection and rubbed with a mouthwatering smokey, spicy jerk rub. The meat was moist and tender and the skin was crispy and perfectly seasoned. Barbecue Chicken: Also boneless thigh meat. Very moist and tender. The barbecue sauce clearly incorporated flavours from the jerk seasoning, which enhanced the barbecue sauce immensely into a unique and flavour packed jerk barbecue sauce. Both dishes were served on seasoned rice with a house jerk gravy and red beans, which was flavourful and filling, and with a side of steamed vegetables, which were delicious. The portions are generous - I got a small and was quite full!

Roywoods finally has another location that recently opened within Union Station's new food court. For those of you unfamiliar with the chain it's basically a higher class Carribean restaurant that sells the usual jerk/friend chicken, goat curry, rotis, etc. Since this location was new I decided to give it a try during one of my lunch breaks. First thing to note: it gets busy around lunch time, like really busy. I arrived at 12:10PM and there was already a line-up of approximately 30 people. When it finally came for me to order I settled on the large jerk chicken which was priced at $14. I had to raise my eyebrows at first too since that's pretty expensive for a food court location, but after diving in I can understand why it's like that. The jerk chicken was one of, if not the best, I've had in Toronto. The quality of the cuts was top notch being tender, smokey, just a tad spicy, and packed full of flavour with good seasoning. The rice and peas are serviceable and the coleslaw being a good blend of sweet and creamy. The portion was quite generous in my opinion and I struggled to finish the dish so I'd say it was about right. If you're a fan of jerk chicken I'd advise you to try out Roywoods at least once. Personally I'm going to have to return at least once more to try out their fried chicken and oxtail dishes!

Quite a long lineup, especially at the lunch hour. But going 15 mins early can save you a lot of time in lining up. It is one of the best, quickest and most affordable options in the area. Must warn you that the food is a bit spicy. Probably a 'hot' level of spiciness if you were ordering chicken wings. Getting a small portion of jerk chicken and rice/coleslaw was the right amount.

After that, I really sold it to my wife and she was excited. We initially arrived at Chubby's and there was only bar seating available. As luck would have it, it was raining that Wednesday evening . I called just after 6:30 pm to see if we needed a reservation and the hostess said we didn't. We get there not 30 minutes later and there is only bar seating. Hearing that, my wife was highly disappointed and so was I. Quit frankly, I was going to go next door to Cafe Renee. But Zac was not having that. He checked a couple of times and found us a table. I was so relieved and my wife continued her enthusiasm. Zac showed us to our table and I swear I attempted to pay for accommodating us and he refused. The lovely Valentina was our server and she was delightful because she understood pace and flow. We ordered the Saltfish Fritters which were a great introduction to the restaurant. I had multiple Buffalo Soldier cocktails and my wife had multiple Rum Punches. We then ordered Jerk Chicken and Jerk Shrimp with rice and peas as our meal. Both were delicious. I also had a serving of plantains, and they were the best plantains I had ever eaten. I was amazed at how light the crunch was on the outside. A skill in itself! Finally, we had the Bread Pudding for dessert. Again...perfection. Zac was phenomenal and I appreciated his effort. I can certainly say from our experience, I understand the many positive reviews and here's another one to add to them!

I opted for the brunch buffet so that I could sample a few dishes. I had brown stew chicken, ackee, saltfish, rundown, callalou, plantains, and a little bit of a lot else. My water glass stayed full and used plates were removed as soon as I went for more food. This was one of the first times that a cultural restaurant in the heart of downtown had authenticity in the dishes. It became apparent when I passed the kitchen and heard patois. Not that patois was an indication of genuine flavor, given some cultural restaurants will compromise flavor for certain palates, but an elder speaking it is an elder who will serve you food as it should taste.

We tried a variety of dishes to varying degrees of enjoyment. Let's start with the good - we enjoyed the saltfish fritters, the Jamaican patties, the beef roti, and the fried bananas the most. They were balanced and very flavorful. The beef roti specifically looked like a giant burrito, but the beef within was so tender and well seasoned. We also really enjoyed the banana fritters which tasted like deep fried banana bread. As for the plates missing the mark - The jerk chicken was pretty tender but our two pieces were also pretty charred so we had to remove most of the skin where most of the rub would have been. Additionally, the goat curry and the oxtail were borderline inedible especially after we ran out of coleslaw which was its saving grace to making each bite palatable. It was so salty otherwise! There were also a lot of small bone fragments to work through on each dish. It wasn't necessarily that these dishes tasted bad but it was just impossible to enjoy due to the salt content. The staff at Simone's was very kind though. I could also tell that they made everything fresh and at order so I can appreciate the effort even though it didn't quite meet my expectations.

The Peanut Punch was in a drinking box from a Caribbean company called Grace. I've had it before. But the waitress suggested it be poured into a tall glass with ice; it was amazing - I highly recommend it! The Plantain appetizer was perfectly cooked and delicious. The Chicken Roti side dish was huge! It is twice as high as any Roti I've ever had before! The chicken inside was succulent. The Jerk Chicken & Oxtail Combo was amazing. You get two sides: we chose rice & peas and coleslaw, two quintessential sides for a Jamaican meal. I feared the Jerk Chicken would be too spicy, but the restaurant wanted to cater to many tastes, so it made it medium spicy (which I could handle). I was told you can add their Real Jerk Hot Sauce yourself or ask the cook to make it extra spicy during the cooking process. The Oxtail was tasty. We also ordered the Escovitch Fish, another popular Caribbean dish. The whole fish is fried, then marinated in a sauce of vinegar, spices, onions, carrots, and peppers. The taste was excellent, and the meat flakes off the bone easily. This dish also come with two sides: we chose coleslaw and steamed vegetables, which came in their own separate bowls.
