Came here per recommendation of Tik Tok while in Toronto for the weekend. BEST DECISION EVER. This ambiance in this place was very inviting, has a local feel with an elevated flavor. i made reservation for 2 on a Friday night. I was immediately greeted and led to our table by the hostess, Our server, Amber, was the best. Her smile was warm and attitude was courteous. We had the oxtail stew with rice and beans, jerk chicken with rice and beans, a side of plaintains and the saltfish appetizers. THE FOOD WAS AMAZING!!! the best part of our meal was the delicious rum raisin bread pudding. One of the best thing on the menu. Even our drinks were amazing. This place did not disappoint. 10/10.

This was my first time in Canada, and during my trip to Toronto, I knew I had to check out Chubby's Jamaican Kitchen after hearing so many great things -- and it definitely lived up to the hype! The food was flavorful and authentic, the hospitality was warm and welcoming, and the ambience truly made me feel like I was in Jamaica. From the décor to the music, everything captured the island spirit perfectly. If I ever make it back to Canada, I'd absolutely visit Chubby's again -- and I highly recommend it to anyone in the Toronto area looking for a taste of Jamaica done right!

Ordered in tonight and the food was delicious. Portions were adequate. Had the oxtail and peas and rice, curried goat and rice and some greens. The greens tasted like some variety of spinach my mom cooked in Trinidad. All dishes were very flavourful and just the right amount of heat.

For our first night in Toronto for a girls' trip, we had dinner at Chubby's given the good reviews and me mentioning wanting to try the various Caribbean spots during our stay. The decor gives island vibes with the wooden furniture and tranquil color choice for decor. Staff were all pretty helpful, with you waiter being pretty attentive. For my drink, I ordered the rum punch which was pretty good in the balance of flavorand alcohol content. In terms of food, the portions for my entree (Oxtail Stew) was a little smaller than I thought but or actually worked out well and was enough. The oxtail was cooked down, well seasoned and tender, but I felt like I got a lot of pieces that were just bone or pretty fatty. The other food/Likkle bites I ordered to share with one of my friends were also very good. The Pepper Shrimp definitely had a heavy kick of spice to it and tasty. I really enjoyed the Saltfish (Cod) Fritters - they were tasty, had a good chutney to go with it. The plantains were cooked perfectly so that they stayed soft. All in all, we had a good dining experience.

A girlfriend and I stopped by this place after an event which wasn't too far away where the drinks left a lot to be desired. We came for the drinks, and as a bonus really enjoyed the food. I neglected to take a photo of my drink but it did not disappoint. I ordered chubbys signature rum punch and the only disappointing thing was the size of the drink. I asked the server if it came in a different size because for $16 I was expecting a lot out of this drink which was tiny imho. Turns out that with 2 types of rum including the world famous overproof rum the size was just right. I staggered just a little when I got up to head home. Complete miracle I didn't fall down the stairs if I'm being totally honest. Sooooo if you can't handle a good strong Caribbean rum punch perhaps choose a mocktail. I forgot to mention that the establishment is a cute 2 story house with a very warm and friendly vibe. The main bar and some seating is downstairs. There is a second bar and what looked to be an outside patio on the second floor but we were seated inside. Food wise we started with some ackee and sailfish bites from their likkle bites menu. It wasn't something I had had previously but it was very tasty and delicious and could have been a meal all by itself. We then each ordered our main meals. I had the jerk pork - because there really isn't anything better and I was not disappointed. It was a huge portion so I ended up taking most of it home. My friend had the jerk shrimp and really enjoyed it as well. We of course had some fried plantains on the side. Overall a great experience I can definitely see myself returning soon.

In Toronto visiting friends an and they said we were going to the best jerk chicken place in Toronto. Went in a group of 3 and ended up there during their Happy Hour. Decided to eat inside as so hot and humid still outside. Opted for several dishes: goat curry, jerk chicken, jerk shrimp, saltfish fritters and plantains. Loved the jerk spices on all the dishes...especially the chicken which for me was the star of the show. The service was great and we all came away full and satisfied. It was a very positive food experience.

Chubbys is (as the kids say) a vibe! The restaurant itself is beautiful. I loved the foliage everywhere and the colors. Delightful! The food was alright. Jerk Roots & Dip: 10/10. Loved this app!! It was a little too spicy but so insanely good. The chutney was my favorite of the dips. I got the rice & peas and they were fry and virtually flavorless. The fried dumplings were more dry than I expected, but maybe that's how they're meant to be? The jerk chicken was decent! Flavorful and fresh. The rum punch was delicious! We were there towards the end of the night but it took 45 minutes to get our appetizers. Our server was pretty nonexistent as she was also managing some large parties. I'm not sure I'd go back for the price, service, and inconsistent food. But it's a solid place

Jerk wings are the tiniest in history. They didn't even get through puberty
    Ki L.

Tiniest wings I ever saw in my life. These poor babies didn't even make it past puberty. They were also overcooked and dry. Additionally, the wings were supposed to be Buy 1 Get 1 Free via DoorDash, but they only sent one ofer of wings. The rice and peas had ZERO flavor. And the greens had absolutely no seasoning either. A disgrace to our ancestors. I certainly feel scammed for all of the various reasons listed above. So I cannot and do not recommend.

This restaurant is nearby Kensington Market and specializes in Jamaican food. I went here around 2pm on Saturday and we made reservations just in case, which is a good call as it was fairly packed. They were ok with reducing the party size as a few friends couldn't make it anymore. There was a brunch prie fixe menu but we opted to do a la carte and ordered the jerk chicken and oxtail stew. We also got 2 rum punches since they were $12 CAD which is a price that does not exist for such a quality of drink in the US. These rum punches were strong! The jerk chicken was flavorful and packs a bit of spiciness. Unlike other reviews, the chicken was actually not dry. There was also rice and beans that were decent. The oxtail stew is quite hearty and the meat falls right off which is great. Food portions were on the lighter side but I appreciate quality over quantity. Service is decent as they check up on you regularly

Incredible experience in Toronto! The food is incredible! The people were super friendly and the drinks were fire! The okra was maybe the best thing I've ever had in my life. The jerk wings are amazing and the oxtail were a classic that you can't beat. The vibe of the restaurant is so cool! I can't wait to go back!!

Before coming to Canada I did my research and this spot kept showing up on people itineraries. Luckily we came at happy hour. Let me tell you this rum punch is nothing to play with! The alcohol is in it!!! All the food was great down to the fries! Only complaint was how tiny those wings were.. but they were still good. The rice and peas by itself is mediocre but once you add the oxtail soup...omg amazing! If ever back in Canada, I will be back!

This was the best choice that night while in Toronto. We sat upstairs and vibes were nice and so was our waitstaff. One drink was enough the Rum punch was powerful. We got the oxtails it was good !

Excellent food, excellent vibes/ambiance, great music, and the service was wonderful! Everyone here was friendly, the food was SOOOO good! We even ordered more.

I opted for the brunch buffet so that I could sample a few dishes. I had brown stew chicken, ackee, saltfish, rundown, callalou, plantains, and a little bit of a lot else. My water glass stayed full and used plates were removed as soon as I went for more food. This was one of the first times that a cultural restaurant in the heart of downtown had authenticity in the dishes. It became apparent when I passed the kitchen and heard patois. Not that patois was an indication of genuine flavor, given some cultural restaurants will compromise flavor for certain palates, but an elder speaking it is an elder who will serve you food as it should taste.

We tried a variety of dishes to varying degrees of enjoyment. Let's start with the good - we enjoyed the saltfish fritters, the Jamaican patties, the beef roti, and the fried bananas the most. They were balanced and very flavorful. The beef roti specifically looked like a giant burrito, but the beef within was so tender and well seasoned. We also really enjoyed the banana fritters which tasted like deep fried banana bread. As for the plates missing the mark - The jerk chicken was pretty tender but our two pieces were also pretty charred so we had to remove most of the skin where most of the rub would have been. Additionally, the goat curry and the oxtail were borderline inedible especially after we ran out of coleslaw which was its saving grace to making each bite palatable. It was so salty otherwise! There were also a lot of small bone fragments to work through on each dish. It wasn't necessarily that these dishes tasted bad but it was just impossible to enjoy due to the salt content. The staff at Simone's was very kind though. I could also tell that they made everything fresh and at order so I can appreciate the effort even though it didn't quite meet my expectations.

Not the best Jamaican food I've had, but it still hits when you want that comfort fix. Legacy spot…read morehas better portions and more consistent flavour than the other location. Fried dumplings with oxtail gravy were warm and soft, and the gravy gave it a nice boost. The mix plate had fried chicken with good crunch and oxtail that was tender, but heads up--the oxtail portion is small, so don't expect anything crazy. The gravy ties it all together though. It's not a top-tier spot for me, but definitely worth a visit when the craving hits. Rating: 3 out of 5

The soft opening was on 2023-04-25, and the grand opening will be on 2023-05-19. There many tables for seating, a second seating area half a floor up at the back of the restaurant, an extensive bar, and an event space in the basement. We ordered the following: 1. Jamaican Mule ($10.99). Ginger Beer, Gosling Black Rum. 2. Lily's Passion ($10.99). 2oz Captain Morgan, 2oz passion fruit, 1oz cranberry juice. 3. Peanut Punch ($5.00). 4. Plantain ($3.95). 5. Chicken Roti (13.95). 6. Jerk Chicken & Oxtail Combo ($23.95). 7. Escovitch Fish ($22.00). The service from the waitress and bartender was excellent. The alcoholic drinks were colourful and tasty. The Peanut Punch was in a drinking box from a Caribbean company called Grace. I've had it before. But the waitress suggested it be poured into a tall glass with ice; it was amazing - I highly recommend it! The Plantain appetizer was perfectly cooked and delicious. The Chicken Roti side dish was huge! It is twice as high as any Roti I've ever had before! The chicken inside was succulent. The Jerk Chicken & Oxtail Combo was amazing. You get two sides: we chose rice & peas and coleslaw, two quintessential sides for a Jamaican meal. I feared the Jerk Chicken would be too spicy, but the restaurant wanted to cater to many tastes, so it made it medium spicy (which I could handle). I was told you can add their Real Jerk Hot Sauce yourself or ask the cook to make it extra spicy during the cooking process. The Oxtail was tasty. We also ordered the Escovitch Fish, another popular Caribbean dish. The whole fish is fried, then marinated in a sauce of vinegar, spices, onions, carrots, and peppers. The taste was excellent, and the meat flakes off the bone easily. This dish also come with two sides: we chose coleslaw and steamed vegetables, which came in their own separate bowls. During this restaurant's grand opening, there will be entertainment starting at 15:00, with steel pan, limbo, prizes, and DJ. Starting at 22:00, there is a party. This location has an event space in the basement, which can hold up to 101 people. It can be used for old school parties, karaoke,  spoken word, etc. The parties are to appeal to the older clientele who frequented the Queen and Broadview and Gerrard locations. The Real Jerk started 38 years ago and has moved several times. The most famous location was at Queen and Broadview while they were there for 25 years. This location is owned by a husband and wife team: Cleigh and Natasha. Cleigh's father owns the location on Gerrard St, which became internationally famous due to a music video by Drake and Rihanna. There is a third location in London, England, owned by Cleigh's uncle. There is free WiFi. The restaurant is not currently wheelchair accessible but there will be a ramp to overcome the one step at the entrance. There are separate male/female washrooms in the basement, so they are not wheelchair accessible. There is paid neighbourhood street parking. Review 2023-142
