Yup, an easy 5/5 and I knew it would be. I had high expectations and they were met. This is a place where you go to share dishes. This is not a place you order a dish to yourself. Made a reso for 5pm on a Friday night and thank god I did because the resto was FULL by the time we left around 6:40. What we ordered for the table: Brazilian cheese puffs Cornbread Caribbean style braised beef Jerk chicken Macaroni pie Brazilian cheese puffs We liked this better than the cornbread but the cornbread was still great. The cheese puffs had a nice saltiness to them from the cheese. They were soft, chewy and bouncy. Overall great flavour. Cornbread This was almost dessert like. The texture was so soft and buttery. Not like a typical cornbread. It was drenched in butter and you could slice your fork through it so easily. Again great flavour but we preferred the cheese puffs. The cornbread was surprisingly also filling. They brought out the breads first before the mains. Jerk chicken Great flavour, juicy and fall off the bone. There were 3 of us and each piece was a perfect size for us. The pumpkin rice it came on was a nice touch and tasted delicious. I can't remember the coleslaw but I'm sure it was good lol. There was a lot going on on my plate. Braised beef This was the star of the show. My friends thought the jerk chicken was the star until they finally tried the braised beef. We all agreed this was amazing. So tender and melt in your mouth. The gravy/pepper sauce will get you though! It was spicy but didn't take away from the flavour. I like the addition of collard. This dish was definitely giving elevated oxtail meal from your local Caribbean shop lol. Macaroni pie Honestly it was good and paired well with the rest of the dishes we got. Not sure if it was really memorable but I think I would order it again for the table. I mean how can you not like a Mac pie esp when you're having Caribbean cuisine? All the dishes came out at a fair paced time. I will ABSOLUTELY be coming back. I'm happy I got to try most of the dishes I wanted to. I defs need to try both desserts next time. A Creole, Caribbean restaurant that is Bib Gourmand, known for its Latin influences, good quality and good value. I definitely think there were some hit and miss dishes for sure. Starters were all amazing, whereas the main courses were not really to our liking. Service was great at the beginning, but somehow our server changed mid service and was never made clear to us, therefore we didn't know where our original server was the entire rest of the night. This spot is a solid 3.5/5 for me! Here's what we got: Small plates/ sides: Pork belly tacos 5/5 - Loved this, well rounded with the fatty pork and salsas Tuna and shrimp ceviche 5/5 - Citrusy, delicious, great for sharing Firecracker shrimp 5/5 - These were addicting! Fried shrimp in a firecracker sauce. Must get Creole caesar 4/5 - Great caesar salad with fried okra Elote ribs 5/5 - Loved these. Very nice char on it. Very tasty and so was the garlic and lime crema. Slightly spicy. Blackened fish: it was okay. I probably wouldn't get again Jerk chicken: pretty good. Spicy. Flavourfull. Carribean braised beef (not pictured): thought it was just okay at first. But it reheated very well at home the next day. Service: Really good. We asked for a candle on the cake for a bday. They came out singing their heart out. We also stayed a long time and they were very nice throughout. Great staff. Ambiance: Casual but not dive bar. Not stuffy or fancy. Came here for dinner with a friend and we were blown away. The menu was eclectic and unique. I'm so glad we decided to share several things. Everything we tried was superb. The atmosphere was bustling. A cool vibe inside, and a back patio that really pops. Love the decor, the graffiti in the basement where the bathrooms are...everything was just fantastic. Since Covid, I've noticed the service at restaurants generally isn't what it used to be. But not here. The staff at Conejo Negro were incredible. Conejo Negro is an eclectic spot around the Ossington area if you're into Caribbean + Latin fusion with bold flavors. We tried the Manu Sour cocktail, pineapple & beet salad, grilled okra, elotes, blackened fish, fried chicken, and tres leches. Everything was super flavorful, and most dishes we ordered had a bit of a kick - perfect if you like spice. The plates are also designed for sharing, which makes it a fun spot to go with friends. The coolest vibes for Papi Hour, hosted by @Overproofpapi at Conejo Negro. It was a girls night out and I wasn't really sure what to expect going in but was pleasantly surprised! The event was tucked into a cozy room at the back of the restaurant, complete with a live DJ and a dedicated bar area that made the space feel both intimate and bumpingat the same time. A special cocktail menu was created just for the night, with food available from Conejo Negro's regular menu (best of both worlds.) Mingling was effortless thanks to shared table seating and a fun "get-to-know-you" bingo game, complete with prizes (first place scored a bottle of rum, second took home a pair of the gorgeous decorative glasses the cocktails were served in). Drinks: I spent the evening sipping on a beautifully presented Hemingway Daiquiri (and cheers to Uber for getting us home safe and sound). Food: Conejo Negro absolutely delivered on ambience and food (no surprise they've earned a spot on the Michelin list two years in a row.) Standout dishes: the ceviche (incredibly fresh) and the fried chicken (juicy AF). I already know I'd be tempted to order the exact same things on my next visit... though there's still so much more on the menu to explore. Vibes: This collaboration was pure genius. Made a reservation well in advance for a birthday and we were seated at a table right at the entrance. Wasn't the best location but it didn't ruin our dinner. Service was great. I believe it was one of the co-owners who also waited our table and service was excellent. It got a little slower as the restaurant got busy, but the quality of service was great. I loved all the food but the drinks are mediocre and the only reason I have the place 4 stars and not 5. We got the beet salad, macaroni pie, Caesar salad, jerk chicken, and braised beef. They were all delicious. The cornbread looked amazing and I'll definitely be getting that next time along with the ceviche. I also really want to try the dessert next time. I was pleasantly surprised last night dining here in that this seemed like a fun place to eat with recorded Cuban music among others playing in the background. I had a rum punch that worked really well with my meal. We started with the grilled pineapple and beet salad and a large macaroni pie. It was a different and welcome take on salad. The macaroni pie also differed with a selection of spices I wasn't accustomed to but most pleasing. We had three proteins for main entrees. Fried chicken, jerk chicken and blackened fish. I loved my experiences at Conejo Negro! I advise you to get yourself a reservation, because after they got their Bib Gourmand from the Michelin Guide, it's been pretty difficult to get a table without during peak hours. My friends and I shared an array of dishes including the Fish Crudo, Jerk Chicken, Curried Lamb, and Grilled Okra. Everything was really good, but Curried Lamb really stood out to me personally. It's super flavourful with the Caribbean spices. For the quality of the food that you're getting, the price is very fair. If the weather's looking good outside, I strongly recommend trying to get a seat by their patio; it's a great vibe for catching up with friends and soaking up the sun. I got a chance to chat with Lamine - one of the owners and he's super friendly and knowledgeable. Overall, a great experience is to be had at Conejo Negro. I'd definitely recommend it! read more

If you're in a hurry this isn't the place to go to before other plans. We went on a Thursday and it was packed. I think hiring more staff would be beneficial. For the apps we ordered the Brazilian cheese puffs, macaroni pie and cornbread. I really liked the cheese puffs, very unique and tasty. The mac and cheese was also very delicious- it's a good Mac. For the mains we got- fried chicken, and the Caribbean style braised beef. The fried chicken was amazing topped with the smoked hot honey- perfectly deep fried, juicy and flavourful. The pickled veggies were a bit too sour and I was not a fan of the veggies they picked for it. The braised beef had a bit of a spicy kick to it, melted in your mouth and all around delicious on top of the grits. Hopefully the service gets better and able to accommodate all the tables. African and Latin fusion cuisine and I am here for it!! We tried the Brazilian cheese puffs, ceviche, jalapeño cornbread, Mac and cheese, okra, fried chicken and corn ribs - every dish was so yummy. Although, I did find that the Mac and cheese could use a bit more flavour it was a nice bite to all the other dishes on our table. Booking a table was easy online for four on a weekday, and we could cancel on the day of. When we arrived, the front of the restaurant had several trailing plans and a nice bar area. It's a great vibe, although the music was sometimes loud as we sat below the speaker. Throughout our experience, several servers checked in on us, and they were attentive and fast. Although the menu was a single page, it offered several options for small plates, salads, large plates, sides, or sweets. For the four of us, we ordered cheese puffs (comes in three and added one more), beet and pineapple salad, firecracker shrimp, jerk chicken, braised beef, macaroni pie, and pork on collards. Regarding drinks, there was a selection of red, white, rose, bubbles, draught, cans/bottles, and cocktails. There were no advertised mocktails, but they said they can typically make 2 to 3 versions of their cocktails as mocktails. I got the Wray N Ting mocktail, and it tasted delicious. The food at Conejo Negro is a fusion of Creole, Caribean, and Latin inspired. I enjoyed all the dishes, my favourite being the braised beef, macaroni pie, and firecracker shrimp; my least favourite was the pork hock and collard greens. Conejo Negro opened up last November, and they will change their menu every few months. Overall, we had a fantastic experience here and will definitely return soon. Accessibility: The ground floor restaurant has no automatic door opener, and the restaurant is tight in some areas. The two washrooms are individual and are downstairs through a door and down a narrow staircase. Street parking available, as well as public transportation options. read more

Overall the food and service were solid, but it was the vibe here that I really liked - the music was so great! As for the food, I really liked the cornbread, okra, jerk chicken, and braised beef. There was a bit of a wait to get in but that was because they were clearing the back room. It was packed! On the way to the back room we were worried they would sit us in the hallway- no clue how u end up getting seated there but it wouldn't be the ideal location. They sat us at the bar until the table was ready and we ordered our drinks. Probs one of my fave spicy margs I've had in the city- couldn't taste the tequila. The lychee drink tasted like sweet lychee juice. The cornbread is the best cornbread I have ever tested. Incredibly moist and the honey butter adds to it perfectly. The pork belly tacos were cooked nicely but we found it didn't have too much actual flavour. The pineapple hot sauce was nice with it. I was relatively disappointed with the Macaroni Pie. We chose to get the small plate because it came w chicharon but it was just little crumbles and I wish the pasta was saucier and gooier. Tasted like a regular Mac and cheese. The collared greens were sooooo yummy. They melted in your mouth it's like they weren't even a vegetable. Fried chicken was very juicy with crispy skin and it seemed like a spicy orange chicken sauce to go with it? I will have to go back for the cornbread and collared greens because I can't believe how amazing they were. Our whole meal + 2 drinks was $126. Overall I think it was a great value for what we got. (Also we said on the rezzy it was a birthday and they didn't do anything about that but we were also too full and didn't feel like asking to do anything about it.
