At the Heartbreak Chef... We got the Big A** Chicken Sandwich Combo which is a 14$ + 6$ deal that comes with Cajun fries, dip included, and a can of Pop. The restaurant is bare bones, but has a nice bench seating that spans the length of the seating area, a garage door opening to the street, and a small bar area near the kitchen. There is local art on one side of the wall and graffiti style decor on the opposite wall and washroom (which you can pickup one of the provided pens and tagged it yourself). The cajun fries are soft potato wedges coated in chili flakes and paprika. It comes with what looks like the burger sauce as dip and is tangy and finger licking good. Eating at Heartbreak is a messy affair. The portions are great for the price, the chicken is hot and fresh, piled high with coleslaw and sweet pickles on a brioche bun. The owner seems to be the soul (pin intended) cook, served us, did cash, and took care of the guests. Overall, the chicken was crispy, lots of meat, will be back to try their mac and cheese. I've had their chicken sandwich several times now and it smacks every time. Super juicy and crispy chicken, soft bun and just plain tasty. Probably my favourite chicken sandwich place in Toronto. And to top things off the portions are massive. Well worth the cost considering how pricey things are these days. We ordered the Cajun fries this time and it was perfectly cooked. Super fluffy and soft in the middle and crispy on the outside with a strong Cajun kick. The owner is right there working his heart out and you can tell it. They moved to Kensington market from their old location on Bloor and honestly I think they fit the Kensington community vibes perfectly. It scream locally made with a lot of heart. It is a cute eatery in Kensington with dine-in options but also takeout/delivery. They do not automatically include utensils so make sure to ask if you need them! There is zero street parking, so if you're dining in you are going to have to walk or Uber. - Big Ass Chicken Sandwich ($14) and Half Ass Chicken Sandwich ($11): Definitely gigantic portions for the price. The buns were fluffy and held up well. The red cabbage slaw was creamy and delicious. The chicken was... fine. It was deep fried in such a way that the batter wasn't crispy, it was actually kind of tough. For example, for multiple bites, I could not bite through the chicken and when I could, each bite would tear off a much bigger chunk than I wanted (not sure if you can picture what is going on). - Mac and cheese ($10): The rave reviews set my expectations high. But it tastes like normal Mac and cheese. Maybe because I did takeout, but it was not creamy; it had congealed by the time we brought it back to the hotel. There was no garlic flavor. I had to add the dipping sauce intended for the fries on the Mac & cheese in order to add some moisture and flavor -Cajun potato wedges ($6): I'm gonna just state that I have always found potato wedges to be the worst of the fried potato forms, because it just feels like a weirdly shaped baked potato to me (too much potato fluff, not enough crunchy skin). I stopped by here during a recent visit and the food and service were amazing. The owner greeted us as soon and we entered and took our order. He was super nice! I had the small sandwich, potato wedges, and brustle sprouts. Everything was delicious and HOT. The entire meal was made fresh. My only disappointment was that they were sold out of Mac and Cheese (which he let us know up front). I really wanted to try it. The owner was sincerely apologetic for it and assured me that he would have some if I returned. I don't live in Canada but I plan to return and eat here again. We came in for Minnesota and found this place while walking the streets and are so glad we came. Vibes were immaculate, staff was incredible and super friendly. Food absolutely smacked. Everyone liked what they got. The chicken was the perfect amount of crispy and was both light and dark meat. Easily the best fried chicken I've ever had. Hubby and I found ourselves downtown with a free afternoon after an early appointment. So we decided to take baby for a walk to Kensignton Market and grab a bite to eat. The big ass chicken Sandwich is HUGE. Its two pieces of breast meat drenched in buffalo sauce topped with coleslaw and pickles. The chicken is soooo tender! The buffalo sauce was tangy and the pickles were sweet and crunchy. The brussel sprouts were good and not over done. I just wish it had slightly more salt. There was so much chicken, the bun halves were far from being able to contain them & I couldn't fit the whole thing in my mouth. We had a power blackout last Friday night so we sat outside with some of our neighbours, had a drink and chatted. The chat turned to fried chicken and Andrew and Nonna said how good the fried chicken is at the Heartbreak Chef in Parkdale. It's been in our heads all week so that's where Gord and I picked up supper this evening. We both got three-piece fried chicken dinners ... the dinner came with tator tots and cole slaw. The chicken is boneless and there are two sauces for it ... buffalo and jerk. Gord got his with no sauce and I got jerk sauce on the side. I'm glad I did ... I love jerk sauce and this was too spicy. One of the best places we've eaten in Toronto. The Charlie with jerk chicken sandwich was more than sufficient for 2 of us and we still have leftovers to finish. With two sizeable pieces of fried chicken (one dark, one white), a fresh potato bun, a generous portion of saucy purple coleslaw and some sliced pickles, this was an explosion of flavours (in the best way) and is certainly in my thoughts as being one of the best fried chicken danishes in the city. Make sure to get some extra napkins though, this one gets messy! I also have to note that everyone seemed so friendly; when I walked in, I got an immediate nod and hello from everyone in the back. The Heartbreak Chef has an item on its menu called "The Big Ass Chicken Sandwich". Lemme tell you - there couldn't be a more accurate name for this item. This sandwich is absolutely massive. I'm known amongst my friends for the big portions I eat, but a BACS combo for lunch was all I needed to eat the entire day to sustain me. The sandwich itself was pretty good. Very flavourful, but that comes with a ton of sodium. I found myself chugging water for the rest of the day. The tater tots that come with the combo are awesome. Super crispy, crunchy, and comes with a great spicy mayo for dipping purposes. If I had to say something negative/critical about The Heartbreak Chef, it's that their sandwiches don't travel well from an Uber Eats perspective. That can easily be forgiven, however, given how massive the sandwich is. The potato rolls that this sandwich is built upon have no chance against the pure weight of the fried chicken it tries to contain. Seriously folks - this is a huge sandwich, and I don't recommend going for something like this if you've got a big meeting scheduled for after lunch. I make it a personal mission to try all the chicken sandwiches so I had to give Heartbreak Chef a try! The sandwich comes with 2 pieces of thicccccc chicken. Make sure you have wetnaps or a nearby sink when you eat it cuz it get real messy! It's a similar size to other chicken sandwich places, though I did expect it to be much bigger because of all the pics on their IG profile. The chicken was a smidge salty to me but we all have our preferences with that. As for the mac and cheese, if you like yours more chunky rather than smooth, then this is for you! Got the Big ass chicken sandwich and the Dutty sandwich. Both had double stacked chicken breast with purple slaw and pickles. I mentioned she's a vegetarian, yes? She's only recently considered that she should perhaps add some chicken back into her diet and had some earlier in the week, with no major complaints. Well,...in her words: "NO REGRETS!" She had one of the chicken pieces on the side, and it was STILL A LOT OF CHIMKEN. We each ordered The Big Ass Chicken Sammich, and she got the SECRET MENU version: coleslaw was replaced with Mac 'n Cheese. We also ordered tater tots. HOLY !@#$, ya'll! Came by on the weekend after randomly seeing a post about their chicken sandwiches on instagram. Boy, was it worth the drive! We got one of each of the signature sandwiches - Big Ass Fried Chicken Sandwich and the Dutty Chicken. The sandwiches were huge! The original sandwich had see really big pieces of chicken that were so juicy. I actually really enjoyed the slaw that accompanied the sandwich because it's crunchy and cut through very nicely. The Dutty sandwich was not as spicy as I expected but this was a good thing. The jerk sauce was so flavorful with a hint of spice so you could actually taste all the flavors in the sauce rather than being overpowered by spiciness. It's no wonder Jerome gives you a huge stack of tissue because you're going to need it. Thankfully we had a baby in the car so we had lots of wet wipes because you're going to need some if you have them! read more

It should of been 5 stars. Had the big chicken sandwich that's spiced with jerk sauce and the Brussels. The sodium level in the jerk sauce completely ruined the experience. It was really salty and overpowered the other flavours such as the cabbage and spice...not sure if they're using a store jerk paste or it's made in house. Based on concentration of that sodium it tasted similar to a jerk paste. Outside of that the quality of ingredients it was very good but unfortunately it wasn't the best experience.
