We came here for dinner because of many rave reviews. And they were not wrong. Their sandwiches taste great and they create such interesting combinations! They have weekly special sandwiches so we had to buy one: Ox Tongue. The staff are great. And you can even watch them cook and assemble your sandwiches. I chose the "122 Sandwich", $12.95. Slow braised pulled pork with home made BBQ sauce, topped with pineapple slaw, served on a Ciabatta bun. Anything with pineapple and slaw must be good (hee hee) and I was right. Oh yeah, the pulled pork, succulent. My wife loves the weekly special "Ox Tongue Sandwich", $15.00. Ox tongue with beer battered pickle, tomato, red onion, iceberg lettuce, garlic, parsley, mayo, on a sesame seed Brioche. The ox tongue had such a nice taste and texture. A beer battered pickle was a great idea (one I've never heard of before). The restaurant is small but they manage to have many seats because of counter seating and seating along a very long table. The walls are exposed brick. There are many interesting decorations. I definitely had to take pictures of them. There is music playing in the background. There have wines and beer but we didn't have any. There is no free WiFi. read more

Ordered the tangy tofu and it was very delicious. I usually do not like ciabatta bread so i was hesitant to order the sandwich, but it was not too tough or thick at all, it was light crispy and perfect. The food is a little messy but that is because of the slaw. It seems that unique slaws are the thing here and they certainly do their THING. So flavorful. All the food is made to order so yeah... it's not fast food :) The chef is really nice, wanted to show us the homemade hot sauces available, my friends added them to their sandwiches but i was so in love with the flavors on my tofu sandwich that i decided to forgo and modifications. THIS PLACE. I fell in love with Famo from the first bite. I will admit when I first came here I was a bit annoyed that I wasn't getting my food fast enough then I watched the young chef and he was cooking each sandwich with so much love that I disregarded that. I've been here so many times I can't even count. Famo is the absolute perfect place for lunch or dinner. All the sandwiches are the chefs creation and he is great. My absolute favourite is the 122 which is braised pulled pork with BBQ sauce and pineapple slaw. IT IS DELICIOUS, my mouth is watering just thinking about it. Another one of my favourites is the Cheek and Bun which is braised beef cheek. I've tried every single sandwich, minus the fish because I'm allergic. Every sandwich is prepared with love and all ingredients are great quality. Also there are these fucking amazing sauces that are homemade. Protein options in the sandwiches include beef tongue, braised lamb, beef cheek and pulled chicken breast. All the meat is slow cooked. Sandwiches are also packed with slaw and creamy sauces (tangy or spicy to go with the sandwich). Bursting with flavour all served in ciabatta buns. Not impressed. Walked in around 11:30 on a Thursday, the store was empty and it looked like they had just fired the grill up. Ordered, waited around 40 minutes for our food. In the mean time maybe 15 ritual orders came in and received their food. No apology for the length of time waited, and when they called our names they called them as ritual orders, so I guess in person guests are the same as everyone else??? I got the yes a burger, it was not good at all. I've never tasted beef so dry and cardboard like. A McDonald's burger is more juicy. Not to mention it cost me like $16 total. No drink or side. I went for lunch today and had The Six which is slow braised beef tongue with arugula, truffle mayo, and re onions on a baguette. Also had the beet slaw. It was good! Went there with two other friends for lunch and turned out to be a terrible experience. The place was busy during lunch time with people waiting for their takeout orders so it took us some time to wait to get our orders in which was totally understandable. We waited at the table in hope of a dine-in meal. 20 minutes later one of the staff told my friend that her pulled pork burger was not available and asked her to switch to another sandwich at the same price, and she chose a chicken sandwich. Because of the long wait, we decided to do take out instead. With everyone else waiting in the room, we waited for almost another 30 minutes to finally get two of our orders... My friend who didn't get her order asked for a refund as we had to go back to the office but she was told that it would take longer to refund than to make her the food, so we just had to wait for a bit more. We got back to our office finally, then realized an order went wrong... The friend who got the chicken sandwich as a replacement got a fish sandwich, my other friend's veggie burger was all greasy with tofu falling apart... Were they under staff? I don't think so. They had four staff working in the kitchen plus one taking orders. It was just unprofessional. It was a very small kitchen and not a large selection of menu. Plus it was mostly for takeouts, even for dine in, it's self serviced. - Ridiculously long waiting time (should not be expected in a sandwich place especially during lunch time where everyone has a very limited lunch time in downtown) - Poor service (staff not knowing the internal procedures/not apologizing for the delayed service/giving wrong orders) even I apologized more to my friends for the poor choice of restaurant. The taste is up to standard which is where the one-star goes to but it is definitely not worth the one hour wait and it is NOT cheap at all. First time at Famo, picked up two sandwiches and a fries to share, winter car picnic style. We were blown away with how amazing our sandwiches were. So much flavour. Will definitely go again. Walked in here not expecting too much, walked out not impressed at all. First, food. No flavour whatsoever. I got a beef cheek sammie with beet slaw on the side. My bf got a beef tongue sandwich with fries. The most flavourful component of sandwiches was the baguette which they get from a local bakery. The meat was tender but nothing more than that. The sauce didn't have any taste to it, so it failed to bring all the components together. I could not taste truffle or red onions, or arugula which all are supposed to have somewhat strong and unique flavours. Beet slaw lacked acidity which would have helped a lot to brighten up the dish. Even their hot sauce....not spicy at all. Fries were good though, different compared to other joints. Details: menu board was not helpful at all (tiny and faint fonts) and stools were way too high. The staff did not even know about the menu (mixed up our sandwiches so we had to ask the owner, she did not know anything about two house-made hot sauces). Each sandwich was $13 (before tax) including one side (maybe soft drink too? they need to make their menu more clear for sure. We didn't bother to ask because we didn't want drinks anyway). I went here with quite a large group (over 25 people). The place was able to crunch out the food as fast as we were able to order them. The place offers about 10 to 12 different kinds of sandwiches including a vegetarian and a vegan option. The popular sandwiches are Cheek, Tongue and the fish taco. Other options include pulled pork, pulled chicken, lamb and a burger. The fries are sliced finger potato's and are really delicious - although I could've had more. Drinks include your usual selection of soft drinks and water but also for grabs are three types of beer and two kinds of red wine plus a white wine. We ordered the tongue and cheek sandwiches plus two beers and side orders of potatoes and beet slaw for $61.00. Plenty of parking is available at the close by Green P parking lot although some of our friends parked right behind the restaurant. In summary, the food was excellent, the service was great and the owners (wife and husband) are very friendly. I highly recommend visiting this place. Enjoy! read more

First time trying FAMO, I ordered takeout using Ritual. Didn't know what to expect, but the decor was modern and inviting. Ended up eating in, which they were really nice about (unpacked my take-out meal and put it on a tray for me). I had the Cheek & Bun Sandwich with the beet slaw on the side. The first time I ordered a tongue sandwich in a corn tortilla (all sandwiches can be made gluten free this way) and I got fries to make sure I get enough calories in case if the portion ends up being small. FAMO makes the best sandwiches in the neighbourhood, but they are a little pricey. I used to get the Famous Lamb or the East Ender sandwich quite frequently, because they came on a mini baguette with a nice little side salad, and home made some hot sauce. Now they charge you extra for hot sauce and salad, and they only have ciabatta buns. Still a delicious sandwich, but not great value for $$. read more
