When I landed in Toronto, I sprinted to get my Caribbean fix. Luckily, my Airbnb was down the street from Tastys! I had a wonderful convo with the owner before ordering that made me feel very welcomed. I got the oxtail, rice and peas and plantains! Everything tasted super original and authentic. The meal came out to 30 Canadian dollars. Would highly recommend for anyone in the area. read more

Tasty's Caribbean was some of the best Jamaican food that I have had in a long time. Seasoned to perfection! The stuffed jerk patty hit the spot and the oxtails were nice and meaty! Portion size was great and I will definitely be visiting again the next time I'm in town read more

Food was fantastic! I had the jerk chicken roti and a side of rice. Portions were very generous, very filling, and a great price. The flavors were so good! Exceptional carribean food! I like spicy hot food and they didn't disappoint. Cannot recommend this place enough. Service was quick, easy, and effective. Ambiance is very much a casual, quick convenient space. It's clean and not run down. Great spot! read more

I really like their jerk chicken, their mild is usually pretty spicy and the sauce got some heat to it as well. One thing that frustrates me is that they states that they're open on Tuesday, but every time I go on a Tuesday, their door is shut close. Update your hours. read more

O.....M......F....G! I'm visiting on a work trip and I didn't feel like leaving the hotel so I ordered from here just hoping to just get some roti. I saw the menu and decided to try the curry goat and get an order of doubles. EVERYTHING WAS SO GOOD!!! Fresh and flavorful! The goat was tender. The doubles were perfect, not too soggy and very spicy. I haven't had authentic food like this in soooo long! I highly recommend trying this place! read more

ive been hearing ppl & friends rave about this place, but then i seen a post that my cousin shared. she ordered food from tastys today, & had it delivered by doordash. as they were about to dig in all that tasty deliciousness, she saw a huuuuuuge cockroach in the food!?!? she then was blocked by them on social media!! 1. what kind of customer service is this??? 2. aside from covid, shouldnt we all be taking extra precautionary steps to ensure cleanliness?? was this place everrrr clean?? i would not trust coming here, for all i know they probably just pick the bugs out and keep serving/selling!? im so sorry my cousin, her husband & 2 small children are now dinner-less and have to wait an hour for another food delivery somewhere else! sorry tastys. zero stars for customer service & cleanliness. im so disappointed. read more

The first time I came here was in early 2016 and since then I marked this place as somewhere I absolutely have to come whenever I'm in Toronto for an extended period of time. Since then they've moved around the corner to a slightly bigger and more modern location since they're putting up MORE condominiums where the old business was. Atmosphere/Appearance: There's nothing fancy about this place, but there doesn't need to be. It's straight to the point. You walk in and take a few steps up into the cozy establishment decorated with Caribbean artifacts. There are small tables on right side, but this place is known better as a to-go spot. Straight ahead is where you place your order, you see it made for you and you get sent on your way! Service: There is no table service here, but the people who have assisted me at the counter were always friendly and got me what I needed. Food: The reason why you come here. I will never forget the moment I saw "Curry Boneless Goat" on the menu. I couldn't believe it. Everywhere else I had ever had goat had all types of sharp and irritating bones in it, but... here... boneless?! Impossible! How do they do it?! I ain't ask questions. I ordered and had my life changed at first bite. Cooked perfectly, soft, savory, spicy, curry-y-y-y, exactly how it was supposed to! I absolutely loved it and vowed to ever order anything other than the Curry Boneless Goat from here! Of course they have regular goat with bones for a cheaper price, but nah... who wants to deal with bones?! Price: All prices are in $CAD. $16.00 for my huge box of goat, cabbage and red beans & rice. I was able to make 2 sizable meals out of this one order so it's absolutely worth the money here. In conclusion I love this place and you will too if give it a try. There's nothing NOT to love. Oh! They take credit cards now too! In 2016 they didn't, but I'm so happy they upgraded! read more

I love Caribbean food and honestly this is one of my favorite places that I go back to. A telling sign if a place knows how to cook well is if their vegetables are delicious too, and I LOVE the veggies here. The price can't be beat for a hearty, flavorful, filling meal. Their house made hot sauces are so good, and it's one of those no frills, hole in the wall places where you know you will get authentic food. $12 will get you a container generously jam packed and enough for 2 meals. Go give them a try!! read more

I originally wrote this review on 9/21/21 and posted on Yelp under another username. Since I deleted that account but wanted to save my review of this joint, so here it that review, copied and pasted here almost 1 year later.... In my opinion rarely does anything, anywhere, under any circumstances warrant 5 stars, including me on most days. Five stars is perfection and while I come close, as does Tasty's, we both have a few shortcomings. I was visiting Toronto for only 2 days, had a jones for oxtail, and found this joint not too far from my Airbnb. Once there I was reminded of my years living in Manhattan where many mom and pop ethnic restaurants are setup exactly like this one. Most won't win the Martha Stewart Good Housekeeping award for Decor & Spotlessness but in many cases the food is over the top authentic, reasonably priced, and delicious. This describes Tasty's Restaurant and the oxtail dish that I ordered. Served over white rice & peas with steamed vegetables on the side, the generous amount of delicious oxtail pieces piled high over rice were fall off the bone and melt in your mouth delicious. The mixed vegetables were a perfect complement. I went there with a craving for oxtail and left feeling like a satisfied junkie who just got their fix. read more

If you love jerk chicken and are on a budget , this is the place to go. Their lunch special will fill you up for lunch AND dinner - the portion is great for the price. Plus they have a ton of vegetarian options if you're not a meat eater. I'll definitely be back to try the plantains , yum!! read more

Tasty's Caribbean Restaurant - ribs and rice in a styrofoam container - Caribbean Near Me - Toronto, Ontario

Tasty's is a no-nonsense Caribbean takeout spot on College that I can see has many fans of its homestyle cooking. Don't expect table service as this is a styrofoam takeout container type of fast food joint, but with a homey family run atmosphere. I ordered the bone-in chicken roti and it was fabulous! The wrap was gooey-oooey chewy delicious and the chicken inside was tasty too. Nice warm curry with some typical Carib hot sauce to spice it up just right. The portion was generous as you would expect for the price offering excellent value. Great spot to know about in the area as an alternative to typical fast food or pub grub. read more

Perhaps this was just an off day for them. Most Caribbean restaurants are on point with all their food but I sadly must say Tasty's wasn't very tasty. We ordered a plate of the curry chicken & the ox tail so we could share with those who wanted one or the other or both. It was mutually agreed it wasn't the best. The ox tail mostly have pieces of fat instead of the actual meat & no additional sauce was added to the rice. The curry chicken wasn't terrible but there was a decent amount of chicken to eat. I would give this place a 2nd try next time in Toronto to hopefully be able to update my rating. read more

I ordered an oxtail large from Uber eats and I was so disappointed. The food came and there was like barely any oxtail, the food is dry and the coleslaw taste really old and smells bad. I called to complain, and they were very rude about it, the guy even told me he does not have to listen to me. This is beyond disappointing and their entitled attitude is disgusting I will make sure everyone I know never ever gets food from here ever. One star is too good for them. The rice is definitely not even fresh. Waste of 30$. Please save your money and order from better Caribbean . Worst food I ever ate. It's old, disgusting! I don't even write reviews but I made a yelp to write about these disgusting people read more

Verdict: I'll be back --- So I ended up here last week for lunch one day while trying to decided what I wanted to eat. Turned out they had a lunch special, jerk chicken, rice and peas, and slaw - which I just couldn't turn down. There was a bit of line up when I got there, which is usually a good sign so I was excited. The portion size for the lunch special was alright, but I wouldn't have minded a little more food - but it's hard to complain at the price point (6.99 + tax). The jerk chicken was juicy, flavourful, and spicy, the rice and peas had a wonderful flavour too, but the coleslaw stole the show. It was sweet, wet, and perfect! There are a few other jerk chicken places in the area and Tasty's is definitely in competition to be a new favourite. OH! And they have this hot sauce in a bottle on the counter on the way out that is brilliant. If you like your food spicy (oh and it was spicy) make sure to add some to your meal - you won't regret it. read more

I really enjoyed my experience at Tasty's and can't wait till I'm back in Toronto to revisit this establishment. Starving on a Thursday night... I decided to finally try Roti (the traditional Trinidadian dish). Boyyyy am I glad I settled on Tasty's...Thank You Yelp!! I arrived about 30 mins before closing (wouldn't recommend this because they ran out of most the items on the menu.) Thankfully the Chicken Curry Roti was still available, I ordered this to go and waited about 20 minutes. They were pretty busy and traffic was moderate, would assume this is a popular place due to the ambience. The owners were very accommodating and served their costumers with respect. The Roti was amazing!!! Hot, fresh, well seasoned and the chicken was cooked to perfection. Been craving it ever since. Can't wait to return! read more

The doubles here are out of this damn world. It's the flavour explosion you never knew you needed!

Been here at least 3 times and (I think) went at least once before they changed locations. I've also never had jerk chicken before coming to Toronto that I know of, but after eating at least three different jerk chicken, I have to say that this place is one of, if not the definitive, best places to get jerk chicken. Their jerk chicken practically falls off the bones and is seasoned very well. They also have a great location for UofT students and pretty good prices. Their jerk chicken special (a small cubular box) is about $6, if I remember correctly, $9 for a regular box that's about twice the size of a special, and $11 for the large, which is maybe 80% larger than a regular (I'm just eyeballing the sizes). I didn't include the tax, so just multiply everything by 1.13 for the final price. 10/10 would recommend. Unless you're not a fan of picking out bones, but I mean, it's a chicken. They have a deboned version of their jerk chicken for I think a dollar extra though, so you can do that if you want. I haven't tried it since a few years back, so iunno how many of these tiny bones they can actually remove. read more

We got takeout tonight thru the Ritual app. It was ready quickly and the pickup was easy. The staff were super kind... and warned me that the jerk chicken is spicy. She was right, so fair warning. Ha. But it wasn't overpowering; food was all flavorful and portions were large. We ordered the curry goat, jerk chicken and curry vegetable meal, and enjoyed all three. We'll definitely come back. read more

I've been coming here for their Daily Special ($6.99 + tax) of jerk chicken, white rice, and steamed veggies and they never disappoint! The chicken is juicy and was just piled there when I went during opening hours this past Wednesday. The spices are the /perfect/ amount to experience spicy jerk without burning my tongue off (although I have not tasted other jerk places because this is my go-to). I like how they have a table aside to help yourself to utensils, napkins, and plastic bags (you can be environmentally-friendly or not as you want, except for the mandatory packaging in styrofoam for take-out since I haven't tried sitting in). Included is another table of their own sauces (which I also have not tried) if you want to amp up your taste buds. The portion is ideal for the price in my opinion. Highly recommend for a quick bite in the area. NOTE: best to pay with cash or credit, there's a fee or they can't take orders below a certain value, which includes the daily special. read more

I picked up a couple of rotis from here on a Saturday afternoon and brought them home to my girlfriend. It seemed a bit pricier than most places - they charge a premium for boneless, which is not unheard of but also not universal. So at $14 each for boneless chicken and boneless goat, these pouches started at a deficit with raised expectations. But did they ever live up to the billing. Massive and stuffed and deliciously spicy, accompanied by some of the most delicious house-made hot sauces (three levels of spicy to choose from - or all three like I did!) Neither of us could finish the huge portions, which made for a delicious snack - really another meal - later on. The bread, the meat, the potatoes, the sauce, everything was top notch. Worth every penny. We will be back. read more

$5.99 lunch special is probably unbeatable for the nearby university area. You can choose a meat (bbq chicken, jerk chicken, beef, etc.), either rice or rice and peas and salad/coleslaw. Very quick service (5 minutes at most). Only thing is that their "salad" is quite sad, with a few pieces of lettuce, cucumber and carrots; so, don't have high expectations for that. Their normal prices are still very reasonable at around $10 for a regular meal, which comes in the larger take-out containers. Staff are super friendly! read more

Although not the cleanest establishment, their food is definitely solid which makes me come back time after time. They have $5.99 lunch special all day every day, an affordable option on campus. Their jerk chicken is always consistent and done right - it's juicy, tender and flavourful. Their rice and peas is cooked perfectly and soaks up the sauce from the jerk chicken and their coleslaw helps cool your mouth down from the spices of the jerk chicken. They're moving locations in July 2016 - not too far from where they are now. I would most definitely come back. read more

Came in craving for some jerk chicken and had high expectations due to the reviews. Ordered the boneless chicken sandwich and jerk chicken pieces on the side, since I wanted try both. First bite of the pieces: mouth-watering. The meat is so tender it falls of the bones and is perfectly spiced, giving it such a rich and juicy flavour. The boneless chicken was good too, but the chicken pies were the yummiest. Chicken pieces (legs and thighs): 5/5, only $5.99 Boneless jerk chicken sandwich: 4/5, only $6.99 (special) Order both and you'll be full. Next time I'll get the large jerk chicken. Think that'll be perfect. read more

March 2016- EDIT: DAMNIT- I found a Hair in my food but the chicken is so FREAKING good that I just picked it out and kept shoving my face with jerk chicken. WHAT IS WRONG WITH ME? And yes, I'd go back. __________________________________________________________________________________ The food is good. 5.99 gets you the standard special- but it's available all day instead of only during lunch at most places.
