O.....M......F....G! I'm visiting on a work trip and I didn't feel like leaving the hotel so I ordered from here just hoping to just get some roti. I saw the menu and decided to try the curry goat and get an order of doubles. EVERYTHING WAS SO GOOD!!! Fresh and flavorful! The goat was tender. The doubles were perfect, not too soggy and very spicy. I haven't had authentic food like this in soooo long! I highly recommend trying this place!

ive been hearing ppl & friends rave about this place, but then i seen a post that my cousin shared. she ordered food from tastys today, & had it delivered by doordash. as they were about to dig in all that tasty deliciousness, she saw a huuuuuuge cockroach in the food!?!? she then was blocked by them on social media!! 1. what kind of customer service is this??? 2. aside from covid, shouldnt we all be taking extra precautionary steps to ensure cleanliness?? was this place everrrr clean?? i would not trust coming here, for all i know they probably just pick the bugs out and keep serving/selling!? im so sorry my cousin, her husband & 2 small children are now dinner-less and have to wait an hour for another food delivery somewhere else! sorry tastys. zero stars for customer service & cleanliness. im so disappointed.

The first time I came here was in early 2016 and since then I marked this place as somewhere I absolutely have to come whenever I'm in Toronto for an extended period of time. Since then they've moved around the corner to a slightly bigger and more modern location since they're putting up MORE condominiums where the old business was. Atmosphere/Appearance: There's nothing fancy about this place, but there doesn't need to be. It's straight to the point. You walk in and take a few steps up into the cozy establishment decorated with Caribbean artifacts. There are small tables on right side, but this place is known better as a to-go spot. Straight ahead is where you place your order, you see it made for you and you get sent on your way! Service: There is no table service here, but the people who have assisted me at the counter were always friendly and got me what I needed. Food: The reason why you come here. I will never forget the moment I saw "Curry Boneless Goat" on the menu. I couldn't believe it. Everywhere else I had ever had goat had all types of sharp and irritating bones in it, but... here... boneless?! Impossible! How do they do it?! I ain't ask questions. I ordered and had my life changed at first bite. Cooked perfectly, soft, savory, spicy, curry-y-y-y, exactly how it was supposed to! I absolutely loved it and vowed to ever order anything other than the Curry Boneless Goat from here! Of course they have regular goat with bones for a cheaper price, but nah... who wants to deal with bones?! Price: All prices are in $CAD. $16.00 for my huge box of goat, cabbage and red beans & rice. I was able to make 2 sizable meals out of this one order so it's absolutely worth the money here. In conclusion I love this place and you will too if give it a try. There's nothing NOT to love. Oh! They take credit cards now too! In 2016 they didn't, but I'm so happy they upgraded!

I love Caribbean food and honestly this is one of my favorite places that I go back to. A telling sign if a place knows how to cook well is if their vegetables are delicious too, and I LOVE the veggies here. The price can't be beat for a hearty, flavorful, filling meal. Their house made hot sauces are so good, and it's one of those no frills, hole in the wall places where you know you will get authentic food. $12 will get you a container generously jam packed and enough for 2 meals. Go give them a try!!

If you love jerk chicken and are on a budget , this is the place to go. Their lunch special will fill you up for lunch AND dinner - the portion is great for the price. Plus they have a ton of vegetarian options if you're not a meat eater. I'll definitely be back to try the plantains , yum!!

mmm jerk chicken - took the vc boys out here n they seemed to like it. rod couldn't handle the spice. -1 star cuz they ran out of the mixed veggies and also it isn't quite mr jerk levels

I ordered an oxtail large from Uber eats and I was so disappointed. The food came and there was like barely any oxtail, the food is dry and the coleslaw taste really old and smells bad. I called to complain, and they were very rude about it, the guy even told me he does not have to listen to me. This is beyond disappointing and their entitled attitude is disgusting I will make sure everyone I know never ever gets food from here ever. One star is too good for them. The rice is definitely not even fresh. Waste of 30$. Please save your money and order from better Caribbean . Worst food I ever ate. It's old, disgusting! I don't even write reviews but I made a yelp to write about these disgusting people

Tasty's is a no-nonsense Caribbean takeout spot on College that I can see has many fans of its homestyle cooking. Don't expect table service as this is a styrofoam takeout container type of fast food joint, but with a homey family run atmosphere. I ordered the bone-in chicken roti and it was fabulous! The wrap was gooey-oooey chewy delicious and the chicken inside was tasty too. Nice warm curry with some typical Carib hot sauce to spice it up just right. The portion was generous as you would expect for the price offering excellent value. Great spot to know about in the area as an alternative to typical fast food or pub grub.

I ordered from uber eats and the portion sizes.. they are SO stingy with the oxtail. So disappointing when you pay $25 for a meal and this is what you get just because you aren't there in person. I will be complaining. so disappointing!

Jerk chicken lunch special

Verdict: I'll be back --- So I ended up here last week for lunch one day while trying to decided what I wanted to eat. Turned out they had a lunch special, jerk chicken, rice and peas, and slaw - which I just couldn't turn down. There was a bit of line up when I got there, which is usually a good sign so I was excited. The portion size for the lunch special was alright, but I wouldn't have minded a little more food - but it's hard to complain at the price point (6.99 + tax). The jerk chicken was juicy, flavourful, and spicy, the rice and peas had a wonderful flavour too, but the coleslaw stole the show. It was sweet, wet, and perfect! There are a few other jerk chicken places in the area and Tasty's is definitely in competition to be a new favourite. OH! And they have this hot sauce in a bottle on the counter on the way out that is brilliant. If you like your food spicy (oh and it was spicy) make sure to add some to your meal - you won't regret it.

Jerk chicken

Some of the best Jerk Chicken and Roti goat curry I have ever had! Our family loved the food!!

Large jerk chicken $12.43 after tax. Loonie for scale. Account for depth because the box is 1 inch high. Ate a piece off the topright there.

After that, I really sold it to my wife and she was excited. We initially arrived at Chubby's and there was only bar seating available. As luck would have it, it was raining that Wednesday evening . I called just after 6:30 pm to see if we needed a reservation and the hostess said we didn't. We get there not 30 minutes later and there is only bar seating. Hearing that, my wife was highly disappointed and so was I. Quit frankly, I was going to go next door to Cafe Renee. But Zac was not having that. He checked a couple of times and found us a table. I was so relieved and my wife continued her enthusiasm. Zac showed us to our table and I swear I attempted to pay for accommodating us and he refused. The lovely Valentina was our server and she was delightful because she understood pace and flow. We ordered the Saltfish Fritters which were a great introduction to the restaurant. I had multiple Buffalo Soldier cocktails and my wife had multiple Rum Punches. We then ordered Jerk Chicken and Jerk Shrimp with rice and peas as our meal. Both were delicious. I also had a serving of plantains, and they were the best plantains I had ever eaten. I was amazed at how light the crunch was on the outside. A skill in itself! Finally, we had the Bread Pudding for dessert. Again...perfection. Zac was phenomenal and I appreciated his effort. I can certainly say from our experience, I understand the many positive reviews and here's another one to add to them!

I opted for the brunch buffet so that I could sample a few dishes. Having my paternal side of the family from Jamaica had already exposed me to lot of Jamaican staples, so I find it a better route to try several menu items rather than a fixed menu. I had brown stew chicken, ackee, saltfish, rundown, callalou, plantains, and a little bit of a lot else. My water glass stayed full and used plates were removed as soon as I went for more food. This was one of the first times that a cultural restaurant in the heart of downtown had authenticity in the dishes. It became apparent when I passed the kitchen and heard patois. Not that patois was an indication of genuine flavor, given some cultural restaurants will compromise flavor for certain palates, but an elder speaking it is an elder who will serve you food as it should taste.

Wanted to try this place for a while now…read more The chicken soup was okay, just potatoes, carrots and dumpling. Curry goat was perfectly spiced and tasty. The roti was hard and chewy, disappointing. Cod fritters were probably day old and hardish with little fish and way too much pepper, could not eat and I'm a "spice girl". Not greasy though. Cole slaw and plantain were perfection. Expensive. Probably won't order again. Update: Just the one fish fritter was super hot, the rest were fine.

We tried a variety of dishes to varying degrees of enjoyment. Let's start with the good - we enjoyed the saltfish fritters, the Jamaican patties, the beef roti, and the fried bananas the most. They were balanced and very flavorful. The beef roti specifically looked like a giant burrito, but the beef within was so tender and well seasoned. We also really enjoyed the banana fritters which tasted like deep fried banana bread. As for the plates missing the mark - The jerk chicken was pretty tender but our two pieces were also pretty charred so we had to remove most of the skin where most of the rub would have been. Additionally, the goat curry and the oxtail were borderline inedible especially after we ran out of coleslaw which was its saving grace to making each bite palatable. It was so salty otherwise! There were also a lot of small bone fragments to work through on each dish. It wasn't necessarily that these dishes tasted bad but it was just impossible to enjoy due to the salt content. The staff at Simone's was very kind though. I could also tell that they made everything fresh and at order so I can appreciate the effort even though it didn't quite meet my expectations.

To compare the two, I ordered a spicy beef patty and tested them for flakiness, crispness, and filling. First off price wise. It was cheaper here at $2.70 including tax. I found that this beef patty here at Allwyn's was flaky enough but lacked the crispness of the outside dough. As well the filling was too moist or soggy and it was translucent which was off putting. Chicken Roti (13.95). 6. Jerk Chicken & Oxtail Combo ($23.95). 7. Escovitch Fish ($22.00). The service from the waitress and bartender was excellent. The alcoholic drinks were colourful and tasty. The Peanut Punch was in a drinking box from a Caribbean company called Grace. I've had it before. But the waitress suggested it be poured into a tall glass with ice; it was amazing - I highly recommend it! The Plantain appetizer was perfectly cooked and delicious. The Chicken Roti side dish was huge! It is twice as high as any Roti I've ever had before! The chicken inside was succulent. The Jerk Chicken & Oxtail Combo was amazing. You get two sides: we chose rice & peas and coleslaw, two quintessential sides for a Jamaican meal. I feared the Jerk Chicken would be too spicy, but the restaurant wanted to cater to many tastes, so it made it medium spicy (which I could handle). I was told you can add their Real Jerk Hot Sauce yourself or ask the cook to make it extra spicy during the cooking process. The Oxtail was tasty. We also ordered the Escovitch Fish, another popular Caribbean dish. The whole fish is fried, then marinated in a sauce of vinegar, spices, onions, carrots, and peppers. The taste was excellent, and the meat flakes off the bone easily. This dish also come with two sides: we chose coleslaw and steamed vegetables, which came in their own separate bowls. During this restaurant's grand opening, there will be entertainment starting at 15:00, with steel pan, limbo, prizes, and DJ. Starting at 22:00, there is a party. This location has an event space in the basement, which can hold up to 101 people. It can be used for old school parties, karaoke,  spoken word, etc. The parties are to appeal to the older clientele who frequented the Queen and Broadview and Gerrard locations. The Real Jerk started 38 years ago and has moved several times. The most famous location was at Queen and Broadview while they were there for 25 years. This location is owned by a husband and wife team: Cleigh and Natasha. Cleigh's father owns the location on Gerrard St, which became internationally famous due to a music video by Drake and Rihanna. There is a third location in London, England, owned by Cleigh's uncle. There is free WiFi. The restaurant is not currently wheelchair accessible but there will be a ramp to overcome the one step at the entrance. There are separate male/female washrooms in the basement, so they are not wheelchair accessible. There is paid neighbourhood street parking. Review 2023-142
