I was craving for Caribbean food today. We were buying drinks from new-opened fifty lan and Jerk King happened to be next to it. It was my first time having food from Jerk King so I ordered Jerk Chicken. The chicken didn't have the charcoal aroma I expected and was a bit plain. However, the rice and beans were pretty good. The sauce was great, with a bit of spicy. It supplemented the plain chicken well and made the rice and beans not that dry. Generally, it was not bad and the amount was enough. A decent meal at a decent price. read more

Too salty we were walking along yonge and saw this place late at night, so we went to and ordered to 2 meals. this place is mostly take-out, but there is one table that you can sit. it does not need to me to pay tips, which is good. however, the food here is just so so, too salty and too small portion. read more

I used to come here so often for their jerk chicken cause the taste is so authentic, not anymore... The taste of the jerk chicken has changed, and it's not amazing like it used to be. They have a change in management i believe. The cook is not the same, the new service staff is RUDE!!! If you see them handling one order don't bother they can multi task. The food quality also went downhill. If your craving Caribbean theres an Allwyns next door plaza. Ok food. Good size for the price. But I will not come back again. read more

I've been to this location multiple times and so far, I've had their boneless jerk chicken, oxtail, coleslaw, and cassava cake. Their pricing is a bit high imo but it is quite filling because of the rice and peas. But I do keep coming back for their gravy because not a lot of place in the area add a generous serving of gravy (I probably won't be coming here if they were to charge extra for it though). Another thing I like about this place is their coleslaw. I'm a big fan of the creamy coleslaw and I prefer it over the vinegar-y one so this place hits the spot. And also compliments the dish. Boneless chicken I've found that their chicken is a bit dry for my liking. Oxtail I love the meat, but it is a bit expensive considering how many bones there are. Cassava cake I've never had a cassava cake before so I had no idea what I was getting, but it was much denser than I expected. It was like a dense custard cake and I liked how it wasn't too sweet. But $6 feels a bit pricey imo. Their service is usually not that great with the exception of today. Hazel was very nice and patient with my order, and that was part of the reason why I decided to finally leave a review. read more

I ordered the small jerk chicken and roti, decent portion. However, there are some problems, the chicken was a bit dry and spicy over powers all the other flavours. For the roti, I have had much better roti in so many other places. The roti was bitter, I could not taste anything else aside from bitterness. It was heavy on salt as well. This place needs to step up read more

Jerk King - Jerk chicken small - Caribbean Near Me - Toronto, Ontario

Great place to get jerk chicken! Service is pretty fast and the staff are friendly. The jerk chicken is absolutely fantastic. It's amazingly tender and melts in your mouth! It honestly doesn't have the more "authentic" jerk chicken flavour (it's more on the sweet side), but I really don't mind since the chicken itself is very good! The rice is pretty standard, but pairs well with the chicken. The coleslaw, on the other hand, is pretty bad. It's very watery and has a very strong mayonnaise flavour. The only highlight of Jerk King is it's jerk chicken--as the name implies--which leaves something to be desired with the rest of the dishes. read more

Decent place for jerk chicken. Served by an asian lady, grabbed a quick small portion to go. Container was well wrapped with paper towel on the exterior in case of leaks. Rice was very tomato-y and saucy, and the mini coleslaw is creamy and quite sweet. The mild chicken has got some kick to it! read more

If you're in yonge/finch/sheppard and craving jerk chicken. This small joint provides a quick fix. It is not the best jerk chicken I've had but it is not bad. The portions here are excellent and the price is reasonable. However the jerk sauce is way too sweet and does not go very well with the chicken. The chicken itself was tender and flavoursome. The coleslaw had too much dressing so it was a bit soggy. I also had two pieces of fried chicken which was mediocre. I would like to try their curry the next time I go. This place is worth a try if you're in the area looking to grab lunch or dinner. read more

I've been craving jerk chicken for the longest time and since it was raining I gave up on trying to find the best jerk chicken in North York and settled for this as it is very easy to find since it's facing Yonge street. I didn't have high expectations but I was pretty disappointed. The jerk chicken wasn't spicy and was more like a thick sweet BBQ sauce just put on top as the inside wasn't really marinated. The coleslaw was alright but was too creamy. The rice and peas weren't bad, but I've definitely had better. For around $9 for a medium size, the portion could have been better. It was 2 small drum sticks (emphasis on small) and 1 small thigh. read more

For $11.50 after tax can get you a large ( 4 pieces of chicken, rice and a choice of salad or coleslaw ) Jerk chicken was tender and spicy. Rice and beans was very good. I should have ordered the medium because the portion is huge. Service was great and fast. Will come again! read more

"Meh. I've experienced better." is an accurate review for this place. I popped in here during my lunch break one day in late summer (yes my review is horribly late) but what i remember vividly (aside from service being terrible compared to their other location): - there were Bee's everywhere in the restaurant that people sitting down (or waiting in line) couldn't be there peacefully - there was no AC - i literally felt like i was baking in a sauna - the debit machine wasn't working and she had to keep resetting it - the food wasn't flavourful - esp compared to their other location - they ran out of veggie options not a location i would return too for Caribbean food! read more

I tried their stew chicken here since I am not a huge fan of jerk chicken. I have to say it was very tasty and tender. Additionally, it was not overly oily which I like. The Asian lady packed my takeout order with care. She wrapped some paper towels around the styrofoam box so that the grease would not run in the bag. read more

Small spot, great portion sizes and for a good price as well. Personally, I really enjoy the chicken, but it could be a little more spicy!

Jerk King opened a new location in North York, very happy about this! There's finally a good carribean restaurant in my area! Prices are fair, large portions, food is delicious. I tried the curry chicken roti and jerk chicken meal (comes with rice and peas and a side of coleslaw). Curry chicken and jerk chicken were flavorful, seasoned very well with a little heat, just enough spiciness to give it a kick but not too overwhelming that it burns! Give it a try, it's a nice change from the typical Asian restaurants and dessert/bubble tea shops that populate this area. I think this will be my new go to place for carribean food. read more

The 4 stars includes a bonus star for long hours and friendly service. I've been here various times between 10:30PM & 1AM and I'd say it met expectations for reasonably priced real food at late hours. It's related to the two older Jerk Kings on Bloor (identical menu board to the Bloor-Bathurst location) but the place is tiny, little more than a take-out counter with seating for maybe 8 people. A couple of small tables outside usable in decent weather. I appreciate that they offer a small size of most of their items for when you want a smaller meal late at night with a lighter price. The meat dishes range a reasonable $6.95-$7.95 for a Small and it's a decent portion for the price. One time I asked if they could do half sized Chickpea Curry and the server accommodated me just like they do downtown. They're also accommodating with substitution requests and I noticed they give free gravy for people who just took Rice & Peas. They also offer to throw in a free Small Coleslaw with just about anything (it's about the size of a Double Esspresso but at least it's on the house...). Note this is late at night, not sure they are as generous during the busy hours. The menu items are the same as the other locations, but in general they are a little less well executed - maybe half a star less in terms of taste. The Curry in both the Chana & Chicken lacks a characteristic or dominant spice profile, not that it isn't seasoned, just that the spices somehow cancel each other out. Still aromatic and with a faint tingle of heat, but nothing to write home about. Similarly the Jerk can be described as "non-committal" in that it's neither particularly sweet, nor spicy nor piquant but rather a little bit of each - just enough to recognize as Caribbean - I'd call it OK. Patties also OK, pretty standard tasting. The Coleslaw is among the sweetest and creamiest I've tasted, probably not to everyone's liking though I thought in small doses it provides some flavour contrast and it's not soggy despite being made & packaged in advance. Everything tastes pretty freshly made in the late hours - although this kind of food does keep well in a warmer - but I believe they keep making batches late into the night (partially thanks to affiliation with various delivery services) from the store you can see action in the kitchen well past 11PM and last spring when the concourse used to be open much later, I could see & hear cooking going on through their back door. Overall wouldn't be my first choice but considering the convenience factor, the friendly & flexible service, freshness and the value-for-money factor I like them and hope they do well here. read more

The food is decent in terms of the volume and the price. The service wasn't the best though... I also had trouble understanding their menu. Nice things: pumpkin is really good, curry is solicitous too. I didn't like the coleslaw, it was fatty and watery. read more

Always great food, portions sizes seem to have gotten a bit smaller than previously ordered, but it is so delicious!

I got the Jerk Chicken Meal (Small is $7.50 including tax) and I think it was definitely worth it! It was a bit too spicy for me but that's just because I don't handle spicy food very well but I still thought it was very delicious! The Jerk Chicken meal is Jerk Chicken with rice and chickpeas and a choice of coleslaw or a salad. I got the salad which was basically lettuce and carrots and a choice of sauce but I'm not complaining because it was a nice refreshing side to balance all the flavours in the chicken and rice. There are larger sizes but small was already able to fill me up. *Available on Ritual* read more

This place was a joke! As many have pointed out, their jerk chicken was super sweet and you can hardly taste any jerk seasonings at all. Let's not forget the awful coleslaw. If you are a jerk lover, this place is not for you. If you like crappy jerk chicken, I would highly recommend this place. read more

Jerk King - Below par medium jerk chicken - Caribbean Near Me - Toronto, Ontario

The Jerk here is surprisingly moist and tender. The portions are decent and the prices are on par with the competition nearby. It's got a tiny seating area so it's best for takeout. I've had their curry chicken, Jerk chicken, Jerk wrap, Beef patties, and those donut looking desserts here at this location. Everything was delicious and consistent each time. Except for the curry chicken was dry. One star off for that but 4stars def for everything else. Its also nice it's open super late. read more

I liked this place! We ordered a small jerk chicken, two pieces of the fried chicken and a fried bread dumpling, I'm not sure what this was called! The lady serving us was really sweet but it took her a while to put the food together and punch the order into the computer. I'll chalk this up to them being new. The jerk chicken was pretty good. Very different from what I've had before. The sauce has more of a sweet barbecue flavour as opposed to the savory jerk flavour that I'm used to, it was good, just not what I was expecting. It was spicy and flavourful. The rice wasn't great, it was overcooked and was lacking flavour. Hopefully this is something that will be improved over time, or maybe we had an off day. The fried chicken was not bad. I don't love that this is pre-cooked and kept on a hot plate. Fried chicken should really be fresh, but I guess it's not a fried chicken restaurant so I shouldn't be expecting much. I think my favourite part of the meal was the bread dumpling that we got. We got one fresh from the oil or oven. It was warm and yeasty tasting, crunchy on the outside and fluffy and doughy on the inside. I'm not sure if it would be as good if it's been sitting for a while but the one we had was delicious! Everything in this restaurant is pre-made so I expect once in a while someone will get something not as fresh tasting. I get that jerk chicken can't really be made to order but fried chicken or those dough dumplings are probably better freshly made. There are a number of options and stews and side dishes that look really interesting, like fried plantains, and patties, so I'll likely be back to try something else. The restaurant is brand new and super clean. It's a takeout joint so not a lot of places to sit. Prices are on par with other places in the area. You can get a decent meal for around $10. Overall decent, I'll probably be back because it's quick, clean and tasty and prices are pretty decent! read more

Mindblowing jerk goodness at Yonge and Sheppard!! Just tried this place and it blew my tastebuds away!! I got the medium plate (at max spice) with coleslaw. The chicken was seasoned perfectly and cooked just right! As a fan of spicy food, I was absolutely impressed with the rich/complex flavours in the accompanying jerk sauce. As the other reviewer had indicated, the sauce is spicy with tonnes of flavour as opposed to "mindless" spice. Shoutout to the awesome coleslaw as well :) A perfect way to wrap up the meal! I've tried quite a number of jerk chicken spots around the city and this is certainly up there on the list. Super excited that these guys are just around the corner and moreso that the food is a fresh break from all the other - somewhat similar - restaurants in the neighborhood. p.s. for those who are familiar with the food court in the building, this is hands down the jerk chicken place to beat! read more

Jerk chicken is very flavourful! Delivery is super fast and food was always warm. Coleslaw is very good too. They're open until late during covid. I recommend! read more

For what it is, this place is good. It's definitely a takeout joint, with one small table and maybe five chairs, but there is a food court in the building. The food is flavourful, the portions are good (although there's not much difference between the medium and the large, so you might as well go for the cheaper one) and the rice and peas and coleslaw are good. I've also tried the rum cake and cassava cake and they were pretty good renditions - very moist. The one downside I can think of is that the spicy isn't spicy at all, so if you're into that, you're out of luck here. Great option for the office drones and/or TTC devotees in the area (right next to Sheppard Station). read more

Location & Ambiance: Seems like a busy and small, hence a line forming quickly. Location is new, clean and easy to find. Customer Service: The staff provided efficient service. Food: I've never eaten from Jerk King so this was my fist time. Had the jerk chicken and rice and peas. Let me paraphrase by saying I'm Jamaican, born and raised. The jerk chicken was saucy and sweet and not a delicious sweet either. After a few bites I couldn't eat anymore. Parts of the rice were tough. I was really an awful meal. I'd never recommend anyone eat there and I certainly would never eat there again. read more

Not bad been there a couple times their jerk chicken is good but I'm not a big fan of the rice the ox tail is good as well

Wanted something different from my usual poke bowl when I'm in the area. Decided to give Jerk King a try. I opted for the small curry goat which came with your standard rice and peas and slaw. There was a generous portion of meat for a 'small' order. Nice to see some 'bone' too as it does add to the flavour of the dish. I'd rate the overall dish as 'average'. Nothing to wow the taste buds but still good enough to enjoy. Service good, establishment clean. Update 1/2018: Jerk chicken still good, portion generous. This time I opted for the addition of spicy gravy. Nice heat without being over the top. However it had a very strong tomato flavour which I personally didn't like. i felt it over powered the flavour of the jerk spice. read more

Jerk King - Medium Jerk chicken - Caribbean Near Me - Toronto, Ontario

coleslaw is gross. Chicken is spicy and good and rice taste good. Good portion I guess

Got their chicken and rice box during the 1$ ritual promotion. Meat was decent, not too dry but also not very juicy. The rice and chicken were quite spicy read more

Mediocre "jerk"chicken at best. Not sure if the jerk chicken was supposed to be super saucy but I was not expecting it, the sauce was more of a sweet sour BBQ sauce and I was expecting more of a jerk marinade savoury flavour on the chicken. I think the chicken was deep fried and then the sauce put on. One thing that kind of turned me off of it was that the chicken had that taste that it was sitting there for a while under a hot light, which was quite possible because there was a mound of the chicken sitting in the display case. Not sure I would go back for the jerk chicken as there are better options for jerk in the immediate area. read more

I always have cravings for their jerk chicken. Their gravy sauce is amazing and I love how spicy it is! The ladies working there are all very nice and give a generous amount. The rice and beans is always very good too. A large is more than enough for 1 person. One less star only because there is not a lot of seating and I wish that the pricing is a little lower. It is quite expensive. read more

Their jerk chicken w/ rice and peas is great for value and quality. A medium is more than sufficient for lunch, and it comes with coleslaw or garden salad. I've tried the roti before and it is massive... but delicious. This is one of my go-tos in the area for lunch at work when I don't bring my own. I like the spice level.. spicier than Alwyn's. read more

The spice has returned to the jerk chicken so I'm back to being a fan.

Great take out spot to address those cravings for Caribbean food!! I thoroughly enjoyed the jerk chicken and rice, which they give you a good sized portion of for the price (2 chicken pieces in a small, and choice of jerk sauce andddd comes w coleslaw)! I tried the beef patties as well and they were ok but not amazing - wasn't a huge fan of the pastry shell. I deducted a star because there is no parking so it's hard to make a quick stop and grab a bite when they are basically a take out spot with very little seating. If I'm going to go through all that trouble to find and pay for parking, then I better be dining in! The other con is that they took a long time to give me my food - they were understaffed and only one poor lady was putting together the orders, taking phone calls and dealing w all the delivery pick ups from uber/foodora/etc. Would come again but would not go out of my way for this. read more

i never post unless its really bad. the chicken here is fire and i have nothing bad to say. im here today to talk about the beef patty abuse. i got 2 burned to death roasted interior patties that were so bad and super greasy. i went back today and got 2 more because i'm like it had to be a mistake. this time they weren't burned yet instead tasted nothing like a beef patty, the crust was like a full cm thick and it honestly tasted like some curry mess of a patty. ive eaten here tons of times in the past as its my local jerk spot but man i gotta say these patties are ASS! not sure what they did but the patty ingredients have clearly changed. how can you be a jamacian patty place and mess up a patty. A PATTY. ill be back but only for the chicken i wont be buying these patties ever again. i now know if i want a real patty has to be from allens or randy's only! read more

The food here is great but delivery is below standards. Twice I've order through a food ordering app (once Skip the Dishes, the other Just Eat) and my orders were incomplete. I did not receive coleslaw either time (even though it is part of the order with pick up/dine in), and the last time they ignored a note about gravy on the rice so we ended up with dry rice and dry chicken.
