I had gotten a f-ing flat tire in Sheepshead Bay. Instead of enjoying my lovely ride from the salt marshes to Manhattan Beach, I ended up at Roy's. SO MANY MECHANICS WORKING AT ONCE!! Bought my first "official" road bike here. The show room will do a combination of knocking you off your feet, making you drool, and wanting to shove all your money at one of the chill salespeople behind the counter. If that's not enough, there's a Cannondale show room next door, with nicer bathrooms apparently. After you finish wiping away your drool, point at one of the shiny bikes you want to try. Bonus: they're really cool about letting you test ride the bikes. I got lucky, nabbing a Liv Avail at the season's end for a gr8 deal. You get a free pedals, bottle & cage, and fitting with every bike you buy. Boris helped me and my boyfriend a bunch and answered all of our questions with refreshing honesty. At the end of the day, they'll give you a number and they'll stick to that number. No extra fees, trickery, nothing. Can I say wow? In late May or early June, I bought a cable bike lock at Roy's. Not 4 months later, the cable broke apart from the combo lock. And I hadn't been abusive at all to the item! I brought it in this morning, they looked at it and handed me another. They were so nice and professional about this. I guess they will ship it back to the manufacturer, but I was so pleased that they were ultra-polite and swift about this. This is my local bicycle shop. I love how this place is down to earth. I bought my first bicycle here back in 2008. The bicycle wasn't cheap but it also wasn't expensive compared to other places. I can see why some people might think the owner is rude but he knows his stuff. If he can tell you're serious about a bicycle, he'll be serious too. I guess it's the vibe he gets. Nevertheless, he is knowledge, he knows his bicycles. The other people are also very nice. I can ask questions and they don't make me feel dumb for asking. Definitely a 5 star experience.. I know this shops been here forever but I walked in for the 1st time in my life 3 days ago.. I had one thing on my mind and that was to purchase A new bike. Only thing is I didn't know where to start or how much I was willing to spend.. I mean it's been a long time since I owned a bike so I knew I was in for some learning.. My man Keith is a man with patients I tell you. He had me test ride 4 bikes so I can get an idea on the direction I wanted to go.. He asked me questions like "am I looking for speed or comfort" he answered all my questions as I asked them. So fast forward.. I'm back from my 4th test ride and still a little undecided, Keith comes rolling out a 5th bike... Cannondale F29 Lefty.. Oh my god was I blown away with the beauty of this bike.. I took it out for a quick spin and loved it but when I asked how much I died.. Even on sale it was pretty pricey so I was back to square 1.. Told Keith let me think about it and come back.. No problem he said.. I went home and couldn't get this bike of my mind.. Hours went by and still Cannondale popping up everywhere lol.. Ok I called the shop and told Keith I'm stopping by to purchase the bike.. I go back the next day and brand new built and ready to go is my baby.. Still couldn't pulled the plug right away.. Price tag... My 12yr old was with me and said daddy I want a bike to so here comes Keith with the help again.. She tries out a bike Keith picked out and she loved it.. Now not only is my bike pricey but my daughters bike is pricey as well.. Died again.. I asked Keith how long for her bike to be built.. One hour he said. I say ok I'll be back.. I leave and go home and again here comes cannondale popping up in my head.. A couple of hours go by and back to the shop I go.. Keith sees me and ask so are you ready for your new ride and absolutely I replied.. So happy I stopped by here to shop.. I shopped around for my cruiser, Alan quoted me the best price ($110 less than retail) from all the dealers that sold Phat Cycles cruisers. The price got me in the store, the service made me write this review. They have something for beginners to pro-cyclists, pretty large selection inside. On the spot they called to check stock in VA & the west coast to see if or when they could get it...I should have it by Thursday =) One of the guys even gave me directions to a new Sonic that opened up on the way to AC (check in for that review!) read more

I am glad to have Roy's so close to our new apt now that I have (re)started a new hobby with biking. This place is pretty big compared to most bike shops I have been to in NYC and they are pretty knowledgeable (but I do have a some issues to straighten out.) As far as the service/repair department goes, these guys are pretty good and very sociable which is always a good thing and you can pretty much ask them about any bike questions without getting any attitude (usually they will crack a joke). So far my only issue was one of the guys installed my back wheel and after riding I noticed that he didn't install it straight (just a smidge to the right). Other than that everytime I came in everyone was in a good mood and it does keep you entertained while waiting for your turn after a while. For the people in the retail department it hasn't been all good times with my experience. I was looking for a chain whip / lockring tool and the guy I asked kept on saying to ask the service guys the model number because he doesn't know what to get or show me unless I knew the model number. So I go the service area and take pics of the tools I wanted and because I didn't ask or write down the model number of the tool he asked me again to ask the service guys. I mean come on!!! I'm basically doing your job here! If i went to a hardware store for a wrench and the guy that works there tells me that he can't show me wrenches because I have to give him "model numbers" why would I want to shop there? All I'm saying here is why can't you just show me the different brands/models of chain whips/ lockring tools you have? Please feel free to criticize me on this if you think im wrong. To sum things out, I like this place... I really do but I don't know if I can go to the retail store again to buy something and the first words out of the person is "I need you to give me a model number" if I am basically asking "What different kinds (brands/models) do have of this item?". read more

Wonderful bike shop with very helpful and nice employees! The guys at Roy's were super accommodating to me when I was picking out a bike. I was a very annoying customer who couldn't make up my mind lol. Like so many others, I bought a bike during the Covid 19 pandemic and at first I bought a hybrid that I loved. A few weeks passed and I convinced myself I wanted a road bike, so I swapped out my hybrid for a road bike but was not prepared for such an aggressive riding position and the toll it took on my neck and back. I guess what a truly wanted was a lightweight bike with flat bars. The guys at Roy's swapped out my drop bars for me and my Specialized Dolce Sport is now almost exactly like the hybrid I had. I felt so bad for annoying them and coming back so many times but the guys at Roy's were so nice and helpful and I couldn't say enough nice things about this place. I've been to Roy's twice now. Once for some standard bike gear last summer and another time for a tune-up. Incredible pricing matched with fun & experienced bike techs makes me certain I've found my go-to spot for bike repairs. Very friendly dudes just doing what they do... fixing up bikes. They guarantee their work and they don't rip you off... it's really a no brainer: if your bike needs a repair this is the place you need to bring it. Tube replaced, wheels balanced, general tune-up done, & reflectors installed...all for far less than places in Bay Ridge and Park Slope. I'm certainly not gonna complain. read more

This is my second bike purchased from Roys. The 1st was a basic cruiser that got destroyed by hurricane sandy. This a more advanced hybrid with a ton of bells and whistles . Roy's did a great job both times providing knowledge and experience to this novice. After a day of riding my new bike I realized that the gears were a little to tall for my liking roys changed the gear set out in 15 minutes retuned it and I was on my way no charge no problem , this was on a damp Saturday morning at opening . Even at that by 1030 the place was rocking so im glad I got there early . Note if your going to this busy busy shop and need tons of advice and help like I do , always do go off hours if possible They get swamped on weekends. Defiantly the best bike shop around. I got my bike there yesterday and don't regret it one bit. My bike originally costed $520 but after talking to the worker there he let it go for $480 because that is all I had on me. I defiantly appreciated them doing that. I also got a chain for $40 today which is like impossible to break through. I also had a problem where the tire deflated for some reason and they fixed it for free without a problem. The workers understood the situation and were glad to help. He showed me that something sharp and metal penetrated the tire. It only took the employee around 2-3 minutes to fix the problem and I kept on riding. Highly recommend checking this place out with summer around the corner :) read more

Went in to purchase a new 650b mountain bike. My salesperson, Keith, was very knowledgable and helpful. Talked to me about different makes/models and showed me a Cannondale Trigger 4 ($2899). I wasn't crazy about the specs and he suggested the Trigger 3 ($3790) which was equipped with the components I desired (bike had to be special ordered as it was a 2015 model). He offered to sell it at a deep discount and I counter offered. He accepted my offer. Money talks and they are willing to deal. When I picked it up, Gerard (shop mechanic) fit the bike for me.
