I have been meaning to write a review for Royal Wok, as they have become our regular Chinese takeout place. There were some recent reviews posted about the complete cluster-f on Christmas. We were one of those people as well, but I know they are a really good restaurant and were obviously overwhelmed and things got out of hand. Yes, I placed an order online as well, hours in advance, and it wasn't ready. My husband waited there almost an hour (40 mins after it should have been ready) and it never came out. He said there was nobody to talk to about the issue or where our food was. Luckily I had opted to pay in person so I didn't have to deal with a refund. At 10:30 that night I got a text that our order was canceled, duh. I think they should have turned off the online ordering and stopped taking phone orders once they realized they couldn't handle it. Unfortunate, but it was what it was. That will not stop me from ordering from them, in fact we ordered again last night. My husband got there about 10 mins after it was supposed to be ready, and it was. There has never been a problem with their timing in the past. Their food is super good and their prices are great! Portions are large and we always have lots of leftovers. We have tried many items, my favorites being the house pan fried noodles, mongolian beef, and salt & pepper fish. Their sizzling rice soup is also great! Kung pao chicken really has no heat to it, so I won't order that again. Orange chicken is pretty good considering i'm not usually a fan. Cream cheese wontons and egg rolls are also very good! I love that they have online ordering (and delivery!) through their own website so we don't have to rely on food apps and pay all the extra fees. Delivery wasn't available after 8pm, so we drove to pick up after we called our order in. Our food was ready by the time we got there. We ordered a large Egg Flower Soup and the two person meal. We got the meal with Chicken and Mushrooms and Beef Broccoli, along with egg rolls, wontons, and fried rice. The food was excellent. The meat was soft and flavorful. The vegetables were cooked perfectly. The egg rolls and wontons were delicious, and we loved the sweet and sour sauce. Very good egg flower soup - could use a little more flavor, but the consistency was excellent. The 3 is us split the 2 person meal and had leftovers. Where do I begin...I showed up to pick up my take-out and the guy who was working didn't acknowledge my presence but responded to my asking to pay for my food and he never looked up once. I ordered Moo Shu chicken which had good flavor despite missing certain ingredients that I'm used to seeing in the dish but the egg rolls where dripping with oil, and my Hot and Sour Soup was not Sour which meaning it was missing the vinegar which I had to add myself at home as well it also missing ingredients that are normally included. read more

This restaurant took the place of Yang Ming. They are pretty darn good in terms of pricing and taste is definitely different than Yang Ming. They have their own flare. I am just glad a new Chinese restaurant took the place of the restaurant I grew up with. Royal Wok renovated the entire space and made it look modern and clean. It is definitely more along the casual and trendy dining experience versus before, which was an old school traditional and family restaurant. I feel like my dad and I are regulars there now. We got a chance to explore the menu and tried a lot of their dishes. My favorites thus far are Sesame Chicken, Mongolian Beef, and of course the Honey Walnut Shrimp. For noodles -- I like their Beef Chow Fun. This past Chinese New Year, we finally got their Roast Duck! The best price is for their whole duck and it comes with buns, green onions, and plum sauce... I love plum sauce with duck. That makes the entire dish. Yum... For soups -- I love the Hot and Sour. If you like the taste of pepper, then the soup is for you. Hot and Sour Soup has always been my favorite Chinese soup in general. I just love to see how each Chinese restaurant's differ. Appetizer wise -- I love the Fried Wonton with cheese. That dunked into the Hot and Sour Souo is so bomb! I got a chance to meet the owner, Linda. She is fabulous! I honestly feel like family now. She takes such good care of us and I recall the first time we went there for a lunch pickup order. She comped us two dishes! Another great addition to the restaurant is Vincent. He is so friendly and a diligent hard worker. He is the staff member that would greet you at the restaurant for pickup orders, on the phone for orders, and also does deliveries. He has delivered to my house twice now and props to him because my neighborhood is a labyrinth! They are definitely a modern mom-and-pop restaurant and I love how their family helps run the place. It reminds me of how my family was when my mom owned an antique shop at Old Towne Orange and I would help her out. Lots of TLC! We order over the phone for pick up about a week and it was so nice to have the option to get some dishes made gluten free or at least not with soy sauce. Some of the best food I've ever had! The place is a little brighter than I like but, that's me. We had never been so we tried a few different dishes. The Salt & Pepper Shrimp was a new dish to me that was a nice surprise. Mongolian Beef and Kung Pao Tofu were both better than any other I've had. I really came to try the Egg Fu Young. This review is only based on one experience but the food and service were both underwhelming to me. Starting off with the dish I ordered, the shrimp with lobster sauce was very odd. I have never personally seen Chinese lobster served in this style sauce. I wouldn't even call it a sauce because as you can see, with how much liquid there was, I was basically eating a soup. It was similar to an egg drop soup with carrots and peas. You can also see by the photo that it's not really appetizing to look at. The texture is very viscous so the eating experience wasn't super enjoyable. There was also no flavor at all and it was pretty bland. It only tasted like it was seasoned with salt and pepper which is disappointing when you're expecting a lot of flavor with Chinese food. The one thing I can praise them on is that they have a lot of shrimp. I was surprised by how much was given but since the taste wasn't there, it made it hard to finish. Service was alright. The guy that picked up the phone wasn't friendly and sounded like it was a bother. I could see why because when I walked in to pick up the order, there was an employee sitting at a table on his phone. The girl that processed the transaction was nicer though. Maybe I just tried the wrong thing, but my first impression was disappointing. My favorite Chinese restaurant closed a couple of years ago and I've been on the search for a new favorite place which is how I came across Royal Wok. I rarely remember to take pictures to post with my reviews so I appreciate the people who do that because it helps me to get an idea of what to expect. I decided to try the mushroom chicken, egg rolls, pot stickers, and a side of steamed rice (rice isn't included with entrée). The egg rolls were great! This was the best part of the meal. Pot stickers were spongy, doughy, with minimal filling. I would not order them again. The main reason I ordered the mushroom chicken was for the nice selection of veggies mixed with the chicken. With all of that going on, I can't figure out why it was so bland, but this dish barely had any flavor. And to top it off... I wasn't given any fortune cookies! I know times are tough, but this was the first time I've ever had Chinese take-out that didn't include a fortune cookie! Overall, I was really disappointed after having high hopes for this place. Maybe I didn't order the right items? Maybe I wasn't there at the right time of day? Either way, my search for a new favorite Chinese restaurant continues. read more

Accidentally found this place and are really glad we did. Plenty of dining space that is clean and organized. Staff is friendly and the service was good. We are still trying different dishes but really enjoyed the house fried rice and chicken chow mein. The portion size is awesome and really appreciated. You definitely get your monies worth. While staying in Orange visiting friends we decided to grab takeout from Royal Wok. Portions were very large and priced appropriately. We enjoyed mu shu pork, garlic green beans, wonton soup and lo mein with scallops. All were delicious. No spicy mustard as requested, so will deduct a half point. From placing the order to pick up, it took less than 30 minutes. And they were slammed on a rainy night. Kudos to the kitchen team for pumping it out and making sure everything was great. Well, we made the mistake of going back. It has been nearly 2 years. Surely they have things sorted out, right? Placed an order online with an estimated time that the order would be ready. Showed up, order not ready. 20 mins later it was finally ready. Not a difficult order: House Chow Fun BBQ Pork Fried Rice Broccoli Beef Orange Chicken Egg Rolls Got home, opened the bag. Wife removes the food from the bag. "Where are the egg rolls?". Yup they forgot the order of egg rolls. Open up the containers. Everything was looking good until we opened the Orange Chicken. That's not Orange Chicken. Turns out it was Kung Pao Chicken. So yeah, they screwed up nearly half my order. I guess we will put Royal Wok back on our Do Not Visit list. They just waved us to seat ourselves when we finally entered. No menus. No place settings. I grabbed paper menus of another table. Yum! What a great spot for a quick lunch or a family dinner. I've been here a few times and love that their lunch special is available 7 days a week. The lunch special includes a soup (hot and sour or egg drop), rice (white or fried), vegetable egg roll, and choice of entree which there are plenty to choose from. I've had the pepper beef, shrimp chow mein, and Kung pao chicken--all delicious. My husband loves the sweet and sour pork. I ordered the Family Combo B which is advertised as feeding 3 people but the portions were generous enough to feed 4. The combo came with the following: Crispy Wontons and Eggrolls: I only had an eggroll which was greasy (which I like) but the filling wasn't that flavorful. Beef and Broccoli: This was really good and included sliced carrots as well. It was overly sweet as some Chinese food with dark sauces. The beef was tender. Orange chicken: This was good but will not dethrone Panda Express. The chicken was not heavily breaded as some restaurants do. Chicken Chow Mein: This was a bit disappointing because I found it lacking in flavor. The noodles did have a nice texture (not dry or hard). Fried rice: It didn't really taste or have the texture of fried rice. More like steamed rice with some soy sauce added for color. read more
