    Butter bear!
    Grace D.

I don't go to this type of restaurant often but this experience was wonderful! Restaurant is in a strip shopping center and has plenty of parking. Place is very clean and neat. Went a bit after lunch so not a lot of people so I didn't feel bad asking a lot of questions and the waiter was very patient in answering my questions. The host seemed a bit surly but that was part of his charm. Food came out quickly and looked very fresh! The sauce bar had plenty of choices to get your side dipping sauce just right but I was up to the challenge! I would certainly go back if only to get a butter bear in my broth!

Hot pot on a super cold day is always perfect! I loved that everyone at the table could order their own soup base of choice then order lots of toppings to share. I got the mushroom soup base which seemed to be a clear broth filled with 3 different mushrooms. I added sesame paste for extra creaminess. With crab sticks, fish ball, quail egg, Napa cabbage and instant noodles, the hot pot was so delicious and filling! We also ordered fried chicken wings on the side. The wings were on the smaller side but the crispiness was perfect. The service here was very fast and everyone was so friendly.

The restaurant server was very overwhelming, he talked incredibly loud and was in our faces for most of our experience there. Everything is very expensive and à la carte to create your own hot pot. The soup broth that they suggested was terrible. We asked for no spice, and we got something very spicy. It was incredibly incredibly greasy. I asked for no oil in my food, and it felt like I was eating out of a vat of oil. The stirfry was dripping with oil. The soup was filled with oil. Everything was all about the oil. The eggplant was super greasy and salty. Everything was incredibly spicy and very very over priced. The service was simply obnoxious and too in your face loud. This is a one and done deal for us. Never again.

Kind of hidden in this plaza is a rare find for Chinese hotpot. you have to pick your soup base , beware the spicyness is crazy, and you order ingredients a la carte. the robot waiter will bring it to your table, so a bit fancy fun. If you are not into hotpot, you can still order from the stirfry menu

Royal Pot is one of the few great and authentic Chinese restaurants in the area. This review is primarily for the Hot Pot, but they also serve a wide variety of Szechuan food that you can order as well. Soup bases They have a large selection of hot pot bases but my bf and I decided to get both the P1 Special Butter Base (Hot) and the P8 Pork Tripe Chicken Soup Base. The spicy base was great and had real heat to it for those looking for it. The pork broth had a lot of flavor as well and pairs well with vegetables. As a bonus, the P8 soup also came with extra pieces of meat from boiling the soup base Sauces They have about 12-15 options for add ins for your dipping sauce. This includes the majority of the staple sauces such as soy sauce, oyster sauce, chili oil, vinegar, and sesame paste as well as ingredients like garlic, sesame seed, cilantro, chili peppers, green onion, chicken seasoning, and sugar. I believe they provide raw eggs by request if that is something you'd like as well. Proteins Royal Pot provides a few different protein selections both plain and marinated. For raw meats, I'd recommend the A1 house spicy beef, the R1 Ribeye, the R3 Fresh Young Lamb, and the R4 Premium US beef. It can be hard to differentiate between the many beef options so you may have to ask the staff for help there. They have other items like M1 Beef Tripes, M11 Quail Eggs, M8 Luncheon Meat, and M10 Little Sausage were also good. We don't usually get a lot of meatballs but their A6 Handmade Shrimp Meatballs are good and fresh. Vegetables There isn't a lot to write here but their vegetable selection is wide, with good quality and generous portion sizes. Desserts I was surprised to find that they had Brown Sugar Jelly and i usually order this whenever I go. It's very reminiscent of the ones I had in Szechuan growing up. All in all a great hot pot experience and I look forward to coming here every time

When you enter, the waiter will ask you if you want hot pot or stir fry. We went with the stir fry option. We ordered the basic fry pot with no additions, spicy bone-in fish, and steamed dumplings. Everything was delicious! Highly recommend and we will be back!

We had a wonderful time at Royal Pot! It was my husband's first hot pot experience and he was a little nervous, but our server whose name I really wish I got was so absolutely kind and was willing to explain everything and the process. Lots of options to choose from to use for your hot pot, lots of variety, and a sauce bar that our server also was super nice enough to walk us through! I've never really seen this at a hot pot place before- but making your own sauces was actually pretty fun. Also the robot server was cool. Definitely want to come back!

Our first post-COVID trip back to Royal Pot. As of this writing, masks are required (when entering the restaurant, and when using the restroom). All staff we saw were also wearing masks. We showed our waitress photos of our vaccine cards; not sure if she would have asked if we hadn't. It's been around two years since we've eaten at Royal Pot, and the food quality is very good, as always. I ordered the 牛油锅 (spicy soup for my pot), and it had a nice kick. My wife ordered 小熊锅 (regular soup with a cute little bear inside; sadly, he melted later but that's by design). Today we tried the 麻辣牛肉 (spicy beef), which was excellent! Apart from that we got our usual lineup of beef, cabbage, wood ear, sliced potatoes, 干豆腐 (kind of like a sheet of tofu, very yummy), and some shrimp and fish balls. The sauce bar is closed for now (COVID) but our waitress was cool. She brought us all the different sauce components so we could make our own. Anyway, I love this place. Kind of pricey, but you won't leave hungry. Also, word to the wise: Royal Pot is the only hotpot restaurant I've found in Michigan that uses individual pots (rather than a shared pot).

I tried hotpot here, it was good. I tried other Chinese dishes, even better. If I lived in Lansing, I'd come here anytime. If you like spice and egg, get the Green Pepper with 1000 year egg. It is a must.

After we found our first choice was closed for renovations, my family and I ended up at Royal Pot over the holiday break. I had never done hot pot before and was really excited to give it a try. The tables have a pot per seat, so everyone can get their own broth base, which is nice. I ordered the butter bear (mild) and my boyfriend got the basic broth (hot). You mark off which items you want on a sheet and everything is brought out family style, so it's good if you have a large group to share more things. We got: -enoki -seafood meatball -beef meatball -seaweed -three kinds of noodles -shrimp dumplings -chicken -beef -napa cabbage -imitation crab stick My broth was spicier than I expected for "mild" but it wasn't overpoweringly hot. I didn't like the whole peppercorns as they kept getting caught in some of the items like the enoki and cabbage so I would randomly bite down on a whole peppercorn, not my favorite. The broth itself really didn't have a ton of flavor, and the butter bear made it way too greasy. It was cute, though! I would definitely get a different broth next time. The sauce bar is where it's at for adding flavor to your items. My favorites were the beef meatball, thick udon noodles, and the shrimp dumplings. I would absolutely get those again. Service was hit or miss; our server seemed bored and wasn't very attentive, but the guy who brought us our broth and food items was smiley and nice. Other staff came around at least two or three times during our meal to see if anyone wanted a refill in their pots. It's definitely a more relaxed type of meal that takes a bit more time. They also didn't explain to us anything about how to work the heat elements (like what number to put it at) or how long to cook any of the items, so we just guessed and everything seemed okay. Overall I'm glad I finally got to try hot pot but I think I like Korean BBQ more when it comes to Asian food you cook at your table. I'd probably go back maybe for a smaller meal now that we know some items we like. For four adults and two kids (who only really ate noodles), the total was $100 before tip.

I've loved the basic hot pots at Royal Pot for a solid year. Our last time there we saw a definite difference in the selection. The broths have spicy butter animals involved now (that you watch dissolve as your soup base warms - warning! The Bear option is considered "milder" than the Pig, and it was delicious lava). And they offer a lot more variety! Portions seem smaller, but the quality and presentation were quite nice. The sauce bar has also expanded. The entire staff was new to us. And the man always manning the host stand was not there. I asked if they had gotten a new owner, and our waitress said the chef was new. Large interior. Clean restaurant and bathrooms. It's located in a strip of other stores. Parking in front of the restaurant can be a little tight, but there's plenty of parking nearby. It's an hour drive for us, so my getting my fix requires planning. But I continue to think it's worth it!

Pretty good place for Chinese food. I tried hot pot and it is very good. The servers here are friendly and nice. I will bring my friends with me next time.

I do see a lot of takeout orders going out, but usually you can easily get a seat and the food is prepared quickly. Have tried maybe 10-12 different dishes and all of them are good in their own way. Some favorites include the Spicy fish filet soup (a large bowl you can share), shredded pork with dry bean curd, stir fry string bean (a classic), and then the string bean with ground pork - (green beans are diced into small pieces). You really can't go wrong, so it's a matter of finding your favorites. The servers are extremely helpful and almost always know the menu very well. You can get American-style dishes such as Beef Broccoli and General Tso, but I would recommend branching out - haven't been disappointed with any menu item yet! Really great execution, professional service, all around fantastic place to eat, especially with a group so you can order several dishes to share.

I looked at the menu and for the dry pot, you need to select a min. of seven items from the menu. If doing dry pot, let the staff know, as there's a separate menu for it. I went with med. spice, added: squid x 2, rice noodles x 2, shrimp x 2, beef brisket x 2, pork belly x 2, baby bokchoy x 1, chinese cabbage x 1, egg plant x 1, dry tofu x 2, & enoki mushroom x 1 Yes, added a lot and it's because the menu was not helpful. Lot of the items are singular, couldn't tell if "Squid" meant 1 or 1 serving. If it was 1 serving, how many squids came in a serving? As I wasn't sure, some of them I ended up ordering two. IE: Shrimp, I got 2 orders, there were 9 or 10 shrimps... had I know 1 order was equal to 5 shrimps, I would have ordered just 1. I wish they would update their menu to reflect the topping items so the customers know how many comes in a order. My bill came out to $70, yeah, it can get expensive! It took some time to get the food... but because I ordered lot of items, the food that came out was good for 5 people :) It was good, loved the medium spice and definitely hit the spot. Oh and yes, had leftover and took it home. I thought I was going a good job of eating, but barely made dent in the plate. I brought the leftovers home and had two more meals out of it. If you are in EL area, definitely visit the place and if you go, go with friends to try other offerings. If you are solo diner and ordering dry pot, only order one item of each from the list and 7 items from the list will be plenty for one person. Three stars for now.

And they had Sichuan dishes plus the "American" Chinese dishes you'd expect. I see they also do dim sum but we didn't try that. They have a ton of vegetarian options! The server told us that they have been open since about 2011 and they used to only have traditional Sichuan food. Their primary customer base was international students who wanted authentic Chinese food like they had at home. But after Covid there were few international students from China in town and their business was struggling, so they expanded the menu to appeal to American tastes. As a result, the menu is huge! And you can choose between authentic Chinese or American style. We tried 2 dishes and enjoyed them both. We will definitely return and try some others.
