It has been a long time since I've offered a review without pictures. Why, you ask? The food was simply that good, I didn't want to stop eating it to take a picture! I ordered the general Tso's chicken with lo mein and crab rangoons for pick up. Here's how they rate: Crab rangoons: 9/10, they are big and the filling is sweet. Lo mein: 9/10, when I opened the carton I could smell garlic and other flavors and it tasted as good as it smelled. The noodles were perfect and the veggies plentiful. General tso's chicken: 10/10, legit the best I've ever had, the sauce is savory with a hint of sweet (pairs well with the rangoons), the chicken pieces are nice cuts of chicken (no chewy chicken here!), the crisp on the chicken was perfect! I have lived in this area my entire life and I now have a new favorite Chinese restaurant. It is located in a small corner plaza the with plenty of parking. When I picked up my food it appeared that they have some ready made carry out options available. It seemed fresh as in the few moments I was waiting for my dinner, a couple dishes were refilled. We ordered egg rolls, crab rangoon, hot Szechuan Beef, orange chicken, egg foo young and pork fried rice. Egg rolls flavor was odd, never had that before. Reminded me a little of pho broth. Crab Rangoon had hardly any stuffing in them. Beef was tender and delicious Orange Chicken was over cooked and lacking flavor. Egg Foo Young tastes like overcooked burned eggs and so greasy. We have had phenomenal Chinese food all over the US and this did not hit the mark. read more

This place is really hit or miss. When the food is made fresh it's definitely a 4 to 5 star hit. However, when it's not fresh, it's not good at all. They have no problem sending hard overcooked food out the door. Since they have a buffett the food is kept out for a while. Sometimes when looking it's hard to tell how long it's been sitting there until you bite into it. This can be devastating when you're hungry and chose the place based on a good day. read more

This has been one of my favorite Chinese spots for years! When I lived in South Lansing, I'd drive across town solely for their honey chicken. The orange and general tso chicken are great, as well. You can even preorder online for pickup; super convenient and easy! The workers are very personable and will remember your order after a few times. Only downside is that they're closed on Sunday's. Probably my new favorite Chinese in the area! It was fresh, and hot, and so tasty. They smartly, loaded our food into a flat box for easier carrying and to drive home I didn't worry about a bag tipping over. My wife called ahead and ordered and it was finishing as I arrived. My wife forgot to order drinks like I had requested, but the young lady gave me free waters for my kids who were "sooo thirsty ". All of our food was delicious! We ate to our stomachs content that night and the next day everyone polished off the leftovers. Also, I love when I go to a family owned restaurant and see the generations around. In this case it seems the grandmother and grandchild were at the table in the small finding area. They were talking and eating a bowl of noodles. And it warms my heart to see family together, generations together, even if it means our kiddo tags along to work and hangs out. read more

The service and people are respectful and nice. The food is alright not the best Chinese food I've had but not terrible been going there for years and have tried all of their items the best in my opinion is general Tao chicken they say it's spicy but is very mild. I went to China Express tonight with a group of friends for dinner. I had the chicken lo mein and was not impressed for there was hardly any meat or vegetables with the noodles. Others in my group said their food was greasy and over salted. The restaurant was very cold. Someone kindly brought out a space heater which warmed only the people sitting right next to it but not me. Most of the people I. My group kept their coats on throughout the meal because they never felt warm enough to remove them. There are other Chinese restaurants in the area which have much better food. I remember when this place first opened after the McDonalds that had been there for several years decided they couldn't make the location work in like 2003 or 2004. They weathered some lean years at first as most people in the area were loyal to the place across the street. That other place is long gone, because China Express was much better, much fresher, and much cheaper. If anything, their food has only improved over the years. Their prices have gone up over time, but it is still a fantastic value compared to other spots in the Lansing area. Their buffet items are almost always super fresh - they make small batches as needed throughout the day. This can cause a bit of a wait during the lunch and dinner rushes, but it beats being served food that's been sitting out for hours. My favorites are the beef broccoli and General Tso's, but the orange chicken is great too. They do sometimes overcook their tso's and orange chicken though, which is always a bummer. The sweet and sour is really popular, but the chicken is too soft and the sauce is a bit too sharp for my taste. Some green pepper and onions would help it out a lot. The fried rice the combos come with is my favorite of the different buffet-bar options in town (IngCredible, Panda Express, Cajun Express), but they sometimes let you substitute rice for lo mein, which is crazy good. I usually just get the plain steamed rice though, which is nice and toothy. Usually I just get items from the buffet bar, but they have a full made to order take out menu too. Everything we've tried is excellent, and my wife really likes their veggie lo mein. They seem to only use fresh veggies, so veggie-heavy items are always extra good here. You really can't go wrong. Whatever you order, get a bunch of egg rolls. They're some of the best I've had anywhere and are even better when you order them fresh (the buffet ones are smaller). Without a doubt the BEST Chinese food in the greater Lansing area. They have the BEST, authentic lo mein noodle I have ever had and the service is top notch. Several times I've been given free egg roll, free soda, etc. A few times I went and ordered for example, orange chicken and the person who took my order suggested they make me some fresh as what was there had been sitting for a while. I was excited to try this based on the ratings left by others. But after the service & food from this place, I have no idea how it is so highly rated. First off, they are very disorganized and so I had to wait way longer for my food than they said. Fine, I get that can happen - not a huge deal. But then they left out one of my three entrees I paid for. Of course I didn't realize it until I can home. What a bummer. But worst of all, the food was trash. We ordered the sweet and sour pork, and the pork was so over cooked and hard that it looked like jerky... nobody could eat it without fear of cracking a tooth. The Szechuan beef was alright but the meat to onion eating was about 30:70 - way too much onion. They should rename it Szechuan onion. We have been unlucky with Lucky House and bored with Panda Express. Tonight - China Express did not disappoint. I called ahead and the phone was answered by a Chinese woman who could not understand my requests so I talked to another person who was very helpful. I arrived a few minutes later to pickup my order of Honey Chicken and Beef and Broccoli. Both meals came with rice and an egg roll. The chicken was sweet and crispy. The beef was tender and the broccoli and carrots were cooked al dente - perfection in my book. The brown sauce was delicious. Not overly salty. Was here yesterday around noon. I understand it that's about the time when they are busy with their lunch rush but what I saw was not ok with me. I ordered a family size sweet and sour chicken, the girl at the counter grabbed the chicken from under the heat lights and put it back in the deep fryer. I don't know how long the chicken had been up there and having watched her recook it makes me question how old ALL the food on the line is. I'm no expert but I'm sure it has to be some sort of violation. The chicken was then dumped in a box and handed to me. It was beyond crispy and she did the same with the egg rolls I ordered. The food was extremely greasy to the point when I broke the hard burnt crust of the chicken oil actually started dribbling out. I honestly picked this place because it's on the way home from work, and I was tired. When I first walked in, I almost turned around and left, because I saw nothing but meat dishes, and I'm a pescatarian. I decided to ask if they had any shrimp, and a woman handed me a menu open to a full page of shrimp dishes. I ordered the sesame shrimp with fried rice, and it was SO GOOD! The people who work there are super friendly and very welcoming. If you are unsure about anything on there menu they will explain it thoroughly. Very friendly staff. Noticably better flavor and freshness than local competitors thus being my go-to spot for good eats. Its classic food at its best. Unlike another reviewer complaining of an upset gut, for myself my family and nieghbors it always goes in good and out good (my nieghbors frequent the restaurant so im assuming they have no problem) so maybe the reviewer who had the upset tummy should stick to a more bland diet, look into some probiotics and digestive enzymes or schedule a gut consult :) but she did say it taste good... read more
