Delish!! *Stir fried spinach with dried shrimp: I'm not going to lie, I thought this wasn't going to taste good since sometimes dried shrimp can be too funky with the smell and taste. This dish was the bomb!! *Szechuan beef: The texture reminds me of my "candy" beef (Szechuan beef from Ma's Restaurant). I wish it was more on the sweet side vs savory but otherwise it was a winner. The family who runs this restaurant is so kind, thoughtful, welcoming. The ambiance is mid - feels generic and a bit dark with fast casual vibes but really the experience of sitting there with the hot pot is what you want (not carry out). The hot pots I've gotten over the years have seriously lacked salt, flavor, and noodles have been scant but generous portions of veggies and meat. We did not order any hot pot dishes and only shared an appetizer of egg rolls and a garlic chicken stirfry. Either order did not make an impression on our taste buds. I ordered my food online, and pickup was easy. There is plenty of parking so I parked right in front. The bathrooms are currently closed to non-employees fyi. The host was nice and pleasant. So how was the food? My favorite is the crab Rangoons!!! They had a code for 4 free pieces for orders over $25 I think, available online only! The dumplings in chili oil (7.95) comes with 6 dumplings which are very tasty but soo spicy. Definitely get if you have a good spicy tolerance. The meat was of good substance too..it was mostly meat and not veggies which I am a big fan of. I felt the seafood pan fried noodle (14.95) came with very little noodle and didn't really look like the picture I saw...it was in a rectangular shape and wasn't... very soft. It reminded me of an uncooked ramen noodle. I wouldn't order thing again unless they make sure the noodle is a bigger portion and it's not that weird non-cooked texture. I've had pan fried noodles in other big cities and this one was very different than that. I heard the beef noodle soup was a fan favorite so I ordered that and it was kinda salty...but I did like the type of noodle they used. This is a nice little eatery, with hot dishes perfect for chilly Michigan weather. It's owned and operated by a Taiwanese family (who are very friendly, by the way). When we visited I had 牛肉面 (beef noodles), and my wife had a Taiwanese style hotpot. Importantly, this is NOT hotpot like you'd get at a 火锅店, where you cook the different ingredients yourself in boiling soup. Instead, I would describe this as maybe Taiwanese-style (not sure, as I haven't been to Taiwan) bowl with various ingredients already in a boiling pot. Thus the restaurant name, I suppose. My 牛肉面 was quite yummy. It's very similar to the style served in Guangzhou. Prices were appropriate for what we ordered. Anyway, I like this place and we'll be back. read more

My son and I found this place when we were out doing something in Lansing and it was AMAZING! Wish it was closer by home- I would go here all the time. Had seafood hot pot, beef with black pepper sauce and the beef noodle soup- tasted so good and the broths were some of the tastiest I have had in a long time. If you're looking for the best chinese in town this is it! They have everything from crab rangoon to hot pots and family meals. We ordered the dumplings in chili oil, hot and sour seafood soup, egg drop soup, shrimp lo mein, chicken fried rice, sesame chicken, shrimp in garlic sauce and crab rangoons. My only issue was that when I got my hot pot, I ate about half of it and found a fat worm (like the size of a bigger inchworm but white and spotted, probably a cabbage worm). The worm wasn't the thing that made me upset, I've worked in a kitchen and this stuff happens, it's just a statistical inevitability, the thing that made me upset was the fact that they only took 20% off the meal when I brought the worm to them, they should've given us the meal for free. Not crazy about their hot pot (I'm not really a hot pot person...), but I can vouch for their entrees! My go-to's are: + Taiwanese Sausage Rice Entree: SO. GOOD. Comes with some pork belly, soy-sauce egg, pickled radishes, and greens. + Fried Fish Skillet (black pepper): The black pepper sauce is freakin' addicting and the noodles are amazing. + Popcorn chicken: It's the only appetizer I order again and again whenever I come here. You are better off buying one from KungFu or Momo Tea. - The quality of the snow fluff has decreased. The toppings taste as if they've been sitting open in the cabinet for months. It was about 40% full on a Saturday night at 7:30. Once they took the order it took another 20 minutes to make the food. The staff are slow, but friendly.We ordered the kimchi pot and the seafood & tofu pot. Both were tasty, but I think it was high in sodium because we were both super thirsty afterwards. Will never go back, between bad food and bad service. I find it appalling that a restaurant owner would blame a handicapped (?} waitperson and the customer for bad food, and poor service. I really like the concept of this restaurant -- what's there not to like about individual hot pot?? The first time I came here, I got the Taiwanese beef noodle soup and the beef wrapped in scallion pancake; both were super good! This time around, I got the lamb pot and the popcorn chicken. The broth was a little bland but tasted much better when I added in some chili paste! The popcorn chicken was super tender.. highly recommended! My friend ordered the beef brisket bowl and really enjoyed it! The person that sat next to us ordered a steak and it smelled SO good!!! I will definitely try it next time! Found this place after attending a very cold MSU football game and we are so glad we did. We ordered the Beef Scallion Egg Wrap for an appetizer and it was delicious and we loved the texture. Tried the Spicy Beef and Japanese Miso hot pots for our main course. We loved how they serve them with their own warmers to keep them nice and. But the flavor of both were absolutely amazing!! All of the ingredients were fresh and complimented each other. The shrimp in the miso had the best flavor, so sweet and yummy. The hot pots were perfect way to warm up and the service was great. Also parking right in front of the restaurant was a plus. We wish they had a location in Macomb or Oakland County we would be weekly regulars. We are planning another trip to East Lansing and will definitely be visiting Boiling Pots again! read more

If you don't know what your eating or picking from then it's hard to get a great first time experience. I've been here a handful of times and each time was delicious. The appetizers are a little bit greasy but if you can get over that, then the food is great. I got the popcorn chicken and crab cheese most of the time and the popcorn chicken is a must. The hot pots are the main attraction here, hence the name, and always are great. The broth in the different pots I've tried were flavorful and adding the chili oil just makes it that much greater. The meat tends to be a little tough if you let it sit in the broth too long. The downside is that the pot is already hot when served so when the fire it's on continues to boil the broth, it's sometimes unbearable to eat or taste the broth. Luckily the servers put out the fire whenever you like. The service isn't the best but they do the best they can since their 1st language isn't english. First of all, yes we may have read the advertisement wrong. We still paid for all our food, the way we looked at the add and read online the website, as we glanced over, we mistook appetizers for sides, and we never had an issue paying for the upgraded beef. I never said we were exposed to Covid at your restaurant. I said we may have been exposed to Covid in general and that's why we initially thought maybe if we had Covid, that's why the food was bland. And no, I'm not rating the quality of the food to the experience. We've gotten Chinese, Thai, Japanese, and Korean food from probably close to every place in the greater Lansing area, as well as a few others throughout the state if we are traveling. Asian cuisine whether we're making it ourself, or going out to a restaurant is our favorite type of food. So I fully 100% stand by my review that the food we bought last night....was bland. Your chef may very well have 40 years of experience and has fully flavored food...last night wasn't the case. Also I said "close to $60". Higher in the review I did say $53. And furthermore. I have no problem with someone who speaks broken English, you probably didn't notice, but my boyfriend is South Korean...I had a problem with the overall rudeness my boyfriend experienced when seeking clarification on the high total he wasn't expecting. But again back to the conversation, what you heard may have been a perfectly trained employee, what he heard wasn't the case, but for sure every person can 100% have a different interpretation. Just a side note: I am really glad your standing by your chef and employees. That's really awesome in this day in age. The service was good and the restaurant was clean. The Boiling Pots were way overpriced though. They require that you pick six items, which adds to the cost. The broth was bland and the portions of my selections were skimpy. I would not go there for one of those. read more
