This is in a little strip mall kinda hard to find. The prices unfortunately are not on the wall. The menu prices was different than the final charge. I ordered the seafood medley and was not very happy with the flavor. Very basic flavor and was not given napkins or any sauce to flavor it. Had more broccoli than seafood. The cashier had trouble understanding orders and was telling other customers to wait a few minutes to order their food. Was a great stop on the way back to the office we thought. China Gourmet has a very nice atmosphere and even greater service. The person who took my order over the phone is the same person who is on the front desk. Workers have great rapport with regular customers and will always remember the order. The food take around 15-20 minutes on average but they will always have it done early. The food is delicious and is well worth the money. I would recommend ordering the sweet and sour chicken, general tso chicken, orange chicken, sesame chicken, lo mein, crab rangoon, and egg roll. The place has dine in but I would recommend take out because in the dinner times it usually gets busy. Overall the restaurant is great and would recommend to others. read more

I'm not sure what the problem is with Chinese restaurants in the area, but they pretty much refuse to add spice to plates. We ordered takeout again last night from China Gourmet and I asked for "extra spicy", and when she repeated the order she said "spicy"; I reiterated "extra spicy". Sadly, when I got it home, there was zero spice on either of our orders. And their eggrolls are horrible. I ordered fried dumplings and they were obviously steamed and only stuck in a frying pan long enough to get a tiny burn mark on each one. Again, a letdown. Okay, so I don't know if this is a different experience for me because I'm from a large city with a lot of options and favorites, and just recently moving to the area. I really hope we find better, or they do better. My order was messed up as if they hadn't been listening (extra spicy?? brown rice? pineapple added?? silverware, as we are in a hotel?? NONE of these requests fulfilled). My boyfriend didn't like his General Tso OR his crab rangoons, one of his favorite foods (dried out). The eggrolls were ALMOST good enough to eat--but not, really. They had this interesting sweetness I was curious about, akin to a slight cinnamon, or something?? Wish they'd been fresh. They added (and charged for) an extra item to our order that we didn't want or ask for, because they misunderstood when asked for a cup of teriyaki sauce. Which we reiterated many times, and they apparently just went with what they wanted to believe he was saying to get the ordering process over? The only thing eaten from the original order was the hot and sour soup which was well enough, definitely the best thing we received, and extremely, ridiculously inexpensive. I can be really picky about meat and didn't realize it would have huge slabs of chicken, but they were GOOD! Okay, complaints concluded--I called them about all of this and they were actually super sweet, almost overly apologetic, and refunded us (supposedly, we'll see), but made my boyfriend a totally new Sweet and Sour dish, which I ate some of and it was seriously AWESOME, fresh, crispy, and delicious! They provided a small cup of hot oil to add to my bean curd dish to make it spicy, and the teriyaki sauce I had originally asked for (super runny though) . The original sauce in my bean curd dish was extremely runny too. Damnit, I said I'd stop complaining! The portions are MACHO, definitely 2-3 meals for me, now that I'll eat it. I ended up being happy enough with it after I drove back, remixed it all in the hotel room, and reheated my main dish. Ultimately, they were kind and made it right as hell, but if I could have avoided having to call and complain, reissue all requests, drive back, wait to eat, etc...that would have been a lot better. I would give them another chance, but not two. I honestly wish I could give them 4 stars, but I can't at this point. read more

Update: 10/22/17 I have removed 1 star because the last two times we have ate here they made the order wrong. This last time I asked for no veggies with what I ordered and it came with mostly veggies and the girl up front took it in back and I watched her remove the veggies and put the top back on. I think that is extremely wrong since so many people have food allergies I was also sharing the chicken I ordered so I asked for them for my money back. They did offer to re make it after I said that. They were not busy like they use to be they were both eating while I was there and the girl up front was on here phone so it's not like they were to busy to re make it anyways. The menu has changed some and the prices have increased as well. Food is wonderful! Nice and hot and not expensive! Cost $5 for my lunch and it was a good portion! CHINA GOURMET....NOT SO GOURMET AFTER ALL!! I have eaten at China Gourmet in DeWitt for years..I love (ed) their food..until a few days ago i watched the the OWNER herself take the tongs that are used to package fried food and pick a piece of chicken (for my order i might add) ,that had fell out of the fry basket, from the floor ,and with no thought, put it back in with the other chicken pieces..then put the tongs, that just touched the floor, back to be used next time! She was stunned to see someone had been standing at the counter , and caught her contaminating food and serve it to a paying customer..that spoke volumes to me of what she would do when no ones around. Ive probably ate food that has touched god only knows what. Sad to say i will never eat there again..The floors in her store are filthy and far from being able to eat off so NO THANK YOU CHINA GOURMET.... read more

Came here based on the extremely positive reviews. I'm hoping it was just a fluke or something that I got the worst restaurant food I've had in years. I ordered the Crispy Honey Chicken and Chicken Fried Rice. The Honey Chicken was some clumsily cut pieces of chicken drowned in a runny, watery sweet soup. If the chicken pieces were breaded, I couldn't tell. You could drain off the runny soup in the sink and you'd just have bare chicken left. The chicken itself was really rubbery - it had a taste and consistency like it was thrown in boiling water to cook it from frozen raw. Then for the fried rice - the rice itself was OK, not really any discernible flavor to it, but serviceable - and then just had those rubbery pieces of chicken dumped on top of it. At this point, as a sanity check I had my roommate try a bite. He immediately ran out to the kitchen and spit it into the trash. Probably the chicken and fairly bland rice combined. Maybe I'm just more amenable to tastelessness than he is. Honestly though - with how remarkably different my food looked from the pictures people have taken - maybe they were having a really bad night or something? So perhaps usually they're ok, but with how badly I got burnt I will be staying far away from here. Hope for the sake of people living in DeWitt it isn't usually anything like what I got. read more

Chinese Gourmet's prices are very reasonable, portions are large! One dinner with rice and spring- or egg- rolls will feed 2 adults. The staff is true-to-China-Chinese, and charmingly gracious.
