Deceptive Businesses Practices. Not to be trusted!! I was really craving some good Thai food, so I walked 15 minutes from my hotel to this business for a takeout order. I ordered the gang musmun. When the lady rang me up, the order total seemed high. When she handed me the receipt to sign, it was an even higher price than what she had just stated a moment earlier. I asked her about it, and she told me I had been charged a dollar for the takeout containers. Nowhere on any sign or on the menu does it state there is a charge for takeout containers. I'm pretty sure she was just padding my bill to benefit her business. Outrageous!! After walking so far, and still having to walk back, I just decided to pay the bogus charge since I was tired and hungry. As for the food, it was disappointing. Watery and too heavily seasoned with fish sauce. It tasted like bland heavily salted water. Very disappointing as I've had some amazing curries in my life and know good Thai food. This was not good Thai food. Not even close. I can't judge an entire restaurant based on one dish, but I can tell you, based on this one dish I would definitely not return. That's apart from the bogus extra charge to my bill. As for the restaurant itself. It was dingy, run down and not clean. The menu I was handed to look over was filthy and sticky. I used hand sanitizer after touching it. So gross. Very disappointing experience. I am in Lansing frequently for work and will never return to Bangkok House. If you are in the area looking for Thai food, there are two other restaurants within walking distance, I'd try one of those first if I were you. read more

Everytime I get to visit Lansing my sister takes us to Bangkok House! And everytime I go, I have to get the thai tea and Pad Thai. Thai tea is soo good, and you get to swirl it yourself which is always a joy. The shrimp pad thai is HUMONGOUS and soo good, I'm sure it would have more flavor if I could stand the spice for what it was this was great! Only been able to eat here a couple times but every time it's really good. The food never takes too long to come out which is great too! A reliable Thai curry that hits the spot every time. I ordered takeout on a Thursday night and service was quick. We ordered the chicken satay, pad se ew, and tofu gang ped. The food was really good and probably worthy of four or five stars. Everything else is the reason for the two stars. We only saw one worker the whole time and when we walked in she looked annoyed. After a few minutes she brought some water and asked if we were ready to order. As we were placing our order she just took off in the middle of my sentence as if we were done. We didn't get a chance to ask for drinks or spring rolls or anything. We ate our food which was delicious but never heard from her until she brought our bill. Not even a hint of a smile or thanks for us dining at her place. We felt like we were inconveniencing her the whole time, and we're just a quiet middle aged couple looking for some good eats. Nothing great about the atmosphere either. You hope from the outside that it could be cozy or inviting inside but it's cold and uninviting. There were also numerous gnats or fruit flies swarming around our heads and food. If you feel you need to try their food I would recommend having it delivered, avoid going inside yourself. read more

I ordered for delivery...the site said 40-50 minutes and it took 2 hours. The pad Thai was just ok. I also ordered crab Rangoon and ended up with whatever is pictured--I couldn't even tell what it was made of; it was rubbery and gross. This order was almost $50 for just those two items. My boyfriend and I have driven by the Bangkok House so many times and finally stopped to give it a try. We really enjoyed experience and the customer service was great. I ordered the traditional peanut pad Thai and he tried something different but we cannot remember the name of it. My only gripe was a few egg shells made it into my dish, but other than that it was pretty good. We especially enjoyed the spicy fried rice and appetizers. The spring rolls were delicious and the chicken skewers came over hot coals/fire to warm them up/sauté them. Low key - This place slipped my radar several times as I pass by the joint regularly when I visit my friend who lives less than a quarter mile east. The dining area reminds me of typical economy asian restaurants/diners. A slew of tables with not many people around. The service seemed like family owned. Very casual and heavily accented. Very friendly as well. The menu was grand and someone like me, who wants to try everything, was overwhelmed but I settled on something that my tastebuds could handle. The intro was a broth soup with onions and a dumpling or two. I apologize for not knowing the name. The soup could have been my meal, it was perfect and soothing. I'll be back here mid winter. My main course was medium heat. Of course I don't remember the name of the dish, but I do remember the heat and flavor. Thai food, GOOD thai food has both. I had to take it slow and steady. My friend had the well known pad thai at low heat. The taste was a sweet spice and I spent more time digging my fork into his plate than my own. I used his dish to settle the heat. Servings were plentiful, I took my dish home, this was recommended because my host noted the heat would simmer after reheating and the flavors blending. It did but it was still fire. The rice wasn't my favorite, I like a stickier variety but it did the job. Oh and their Thai Tea one of the best out there, I've only had about 4 but this one takes number 1. read more

Absolutely one of my favorite Thai restaurants in Lansing. I love coming here for lunch. The waitress is so funny and friendly. It blows my mind that she can remember exactly how you want your food. I usually get medium, till one day my lips, gums, and teeth were burning. I told the waitress it was too hot and she said the peppers were at their peak and she made me a new dish, no problems. One of my favorite things to get here is the spring rolls with this amazing sauce that comes with it. I'm not sure what they put in this sauce but it's A1! Also make sure you try the cucumber soup. This place is a weekly staple at our house, both of us have busy careers that don't always leave us time to cook dinner. It cracks me up when we call and they know who we are by the sound of our voices. If you want your goody spicy, be sure to let them know. They can make really good spicy food, but might assume you don't want it as spicy as you say on your first visit. (Better safe than sorry?) We get E15, E16, and E18 a lot. read more

This place is not a "destination" restaurant. Bangkok House has closed a few times, once for fire, and another time (I want to say for remodel?). The new interior is WAAAYYY better than the old interior that was dreary and brown. The place was dirty and cramped. So dirty, that I once stole a pepper shaker from there to give as a gift to a coworker because it was a running joke that they hadn't changed their salt and pepper shakers in the five years we had been going there. Seriously, you couldn't extract pepper from the shaker because it had turned into a single solid mass. But the food... the food is very good. Some of the best Pad Thai Chicken I've had. And they're aren't afraid of spice. If you ask for extra spicy, you will sweat. I love spicy food, so this is heaven. read more

Was interesting to me that there are NO reviews for 2019 for Bangkok House. I gave the owner one more chance to not be so rude to me and others that she serves at her restaurant, well she failed miserably. Don't know if her business is not doing well but she does not smile at you or even say hello. Maybe this is what they consider excellent service? If you like someone being rude to you then go here and have some Thai, if not find another place. She should read the reviews on here that talk about the service and how rude she is and start to change things. There are better choices in the surrounding area that will treat you much better. Food is alright but nothing that would keep me going back to receive the level of service she provides. You wonder if she even knows that she is treating people disrespectfully? Perhaps the filthiest restaurant I've ever been in. Check out the carpet before you are seated. I doubt it's ever been cleaned. We were the first dinner customers at 5 pm and the only customers in the place. The floor hadn't been vaccumed, the windows were filthy and the glass partition between the cashier and customer was so dirty you could barely see through it. The service was terrible. The one woman who brought us our menu never offered us drinks and took 15 minutes to bring us our menus. She told us when we were ready to order to call her. She wasn't rude but she sure wasn't pleasant. The food wasn't anything to rave about either. I had Pad Almond and it was okay but not something you'd ever go back for a second time. I gave the Bangkok House restaurant two tries , and overall , I would recommend it. The chicken wings are delicious , and so are the vegetable egg rolls. Wings were adored by my wife too which impressed me. Lol as she is picky . They have a very friendly, efficient staff and good Thai beer to compliment the exotic Thailand tastes. Stay away from the spare ribs ( to dry for my liking and the taste was jut so so , not like a Chinese spare rib ). I gave them personal , friendly , and honest feedback about the ribs upon my return. I've eaten at just about every Thai restaurant in Lansing and many more throughout the country, and this place is definitely in my top 3. Their interior and exteriors are newly remodels and the dining area is clean. The Pad Thai, Pad Kee Mao and the red curries are fantastic and the prices can't be beat. Most dinners run about $8.00 (a couple more dollars for seafood). The spring rolls are also a favorite of mine, and they run a couple dollars for two. Heard this was re-opened after a fire sometime back. The word of mouth reviews did help of course. I tried the noodles [Pad Khee Mao - Sauteed meat with big noodle, broccoli, egg, collard greens, bean sprouts and basil] and the hot and sour soup (first time I saw peas being a part of that!), sampled a little bit of the flaming duck [sauteed vegetables on a skillet with 1/2-duck] from a fellow diner. Pleasantly surprised to return after dining elsewhere for weeks that the lady (I call her Mrs. Bangkok House) remembered me and also quoted my usual order to me as I was being seated and asked if I wanted the same. She had it down pat, right to the spice level and beverage. What a pleasant woman. We chatted a bit about the upcoming bridge construction that will heavily impact her business, and I told her to make sure she attends the meetings and speaks her mind about traffic flow, etc. on Saginaw. She thanked me. Then because I was feeling so good, a lady soldier was dining at the next table, and talking to her friend about the Christmas gifts she'd gotten for her little girl. I was touched, and decided to anonymously pay for her meal. I'm glad I did. Please remember during this holiday season, and all throughout the coming year, to remember our men and women in uniform, whether they are here or serving overseas. A total hidden gem and the best vegetarian Thai food in Lansing. Every dish I've had has been fantastic. Anything with their peanut sauce is the best, though. It's not authentic (they owners are Vietnamese, for what it's worth), but its delicious. Also, they do takeout and its super quick. read more

The Pad Thai with pork was very good. Most inspired thing to order at a Thai restaurant? No. However, I like the dish and it makes comparing Thai places easy. The medium wasn't hot enough for me, but a dish of chili sauce was produced when asked. Other food: The deep fried spring rolls were excellent and seemed to be made in house. The chicken wings were fried perfectly, but needed the sweet chili provided. Spouse's Pad Khing was very flavorful, unfortunately light on the beef, and the snack cupboard was raided later in the evening. Table service is OK and very friendly. Servers are also responsible for handling the take out orders and may be hung up at the counter for a bit. We'll be back and willing to experiment. read more
