I have been coming to this Thai restaurant for the past 10 years and will miss it when it closes. I hope they reopen somewhere soon. End of May will be your last opportunity for an unknown time. We splurged since it might the last time. We stared with the appetizer sampler and it was all delicious. All of it was fresh and delicious. Crispy crab rangoons, moist chicken satay, fresh spring rolls, egg rolls with chicken and some meat rangoon. All complemented with three different sauces with one being a sweet peanut butter sauce. Yum! The Red Pad Thai is amazing as usual. The fresh topping with the flavors from the noodles and sauce go so well together. The peanut curry with chicken were flavored with just the right amount of peanut flavor and spice! I substituted the white rice with their fried rice for an additional $3, but it was sooo worth it! Normally it was only an additional $2 but eggs, enough said. The service was pleasant as usual and never did we need anything. The place hasn't changed much over the last 10 years but you don't have to when your food speaks for itself. We tried this place for the first time and it did not disappoint. The food was awesome. The server was very attentive. The ambience was welcoming. If you've never had Thai food before, they can make recommendations based on what you like. Just ask. Thai food is generally spicy. If you generally stick with medium spice when it comes to Chinese or Mexican food, you'll want to try mild spice when it comes to Thai. We will definitely be back! read more

Oh NO! They have closed?!? The old downtown Okemos has disappeared over the past 10 years (R.I.P. Tuba Museum ) while traffic is a horror, so I understand the problem with potential new customers not being aware of New Thai Kitchen. I've been coming here for years whenever I get to Okemos, for both eat-in and take-out. Food has always been good and reasonably priced, the service friendly, ambience not fancy but very comfortable. I hope they can open in a new location. And if they could also obtain the much-missed coconut ice cream again that would help. read more

First time here and I can say it was not disappointing! Our server was friendly and attentive. My husband and I both ordered lunch (which included 1 spring roll and a small cup of soup [broth]). I had the Pad Thai with chicken and hubby ordered the Drunken Noodle with pork. Both were delicious and true to Thai flavor. I left full but my husband wished the portion size was a little larger. Only thing I would suggest is they have a bigger sign as it was a little tricky to spot. We will be back for sure and would definitely recommend if you have a taste for Thai! read more

We gave New Thai Kitchen a try last night and thought it was pretty good! I had the Red Pad Thai and my significant other had the Pad Khing with white rice. I didn't specify the spice level for my Pad Thai and probably would ask for medium next time because it was pretty mild. My significant other thought the chicken in his Pad Khing was great quality and had good flavors over all. We also ordered a combo platter and since they were out of fresh spring rolls, they let us pick something in the combo to double. We chose satay chicken and that was a good decision because they were great! We thought the spring rolls were really good, too. The cabbage was green and fresh like they were just rolled up to fry. Just delightful. Me and my wife were running errands and hungry, and decided on the spur of the moment to get lunch here. Oh man am I glad we did. They have a leaned-down lunch menu, so maybe less variety, but still like 30 different dishes to choose from. The soup is delicious, the spring roll was crunchy and the dipping sauce was sweet and umami, yet delicate. The crab rangoons were alright, kinda low on crab. I ordered the peanut curry. Great. Deep roasted peanut flavor, tender chicken and bamboo, and just spicy enough for a meal where I wasn't sharing entrees family style. Strongly recommend. Will be coming back. read more

If you have read my other reviews of Thai restaurants, my benchmark meal is Green Curry. Generally speaking, if a restaurant's Green Curry is good, the rest of their food is good too. Well, their Green Curry is lacking. What is it lacking? Well, it has some spice, but not much flavor. The flavor that is there is quite sweet with no salty to balance it out. Good Thai food is about balance, and this is out of balance. I had the Thai spring rolls (crispy) as an appetizer, and it was lacking in flavor too. The chicken inside tasted like it had been either thawed or cooked in a microwave, which is strange given the outside was perfectly crispy. There may not be many places in East Lansing for Thai food, but this one is worth passing up. read more

So happy to have New Thai Kitchen back in town. The food is delicious and the prices are great. I'm a fan of the Red Pad Thai. Its the Pad Thai with ketchup in the sauce. The Tom Yum soup is always great. I do order other items, but always go back for the Tom Yum Soup. If you like coconut and curry, you will find lots of choices on the menu. At lunch they have a small soup, spring roll and entree for a lunch special price. At dinner everything is ordered separate. Two can share a dinner entree, but I would recommend ordering a soup or appetizer if you are sharing. Also, Thai food makes for great leftovers! Yum yum! Best Thai food in the Lansing Area!!! Let me tell you my secret order: Pad Thai Curry with Chicken, add onion, potato and water chestnuts. I also squeeze a little lime on it. Wow!! Just tried this for the first time recently, and I really liked it. It's a small and cozy place in okemos. I got a cup of Tom Kha soup, and then the Kang Ped eggplant curry which I got with chicken. But when you're craving for Asian food. This is one of your options. The food is good. The price is very affordable. Their Tom Yum Chicken is good. I ordered the Pad Prik with pork (N6). My husband and I used to eat at a great Thai restaurant on Grand River, that sadly closed a few years back. We haven't been able to find authentic Thai food in our area since. Then one day, as we exited Martial arts on the corner of Okemos and Hamilton, we noticed that the old Sip and Snack was being remodeled again into the New Thai Kitchen! The owners of the previous Thai Kitchen decided to reopen to provide us with great Thai food! The restaurant is quaint and beautifully decorated with Thai art and greenery. They don't have a liquor license but they do have Thai coffee! Yummy!!! And I don't even like coffee!!! We ordered three different appetizers; Chicken Satay, Crab Rangoon and Fried Wontons. The Chicken Satay was moist and light and came with two very delicious dipping sauces. One was a slightly spicy peanut sauce and the other was a cucumber infused sweet and sour. The Crab Rangoon were a hit with my picky eater! They were filled with crab creaminess!!! I, sadly, only got a bite because the kids ate them all!. The Fried Wontons came with a spicy glaze with peanuts. They were all so good that I was glad the portions were small or else I would have been full before the entrees came. We ordered The Pad Prik with beef, the Fried Rice with chicken and the Sesame Chicken. The Pad Prik came with bamboo shoots, water chestnuts, green beans and green peppers. Unlike most dishes with a sauce, the vegetables were crisp and full of flavor not limp and tasteless. They blended perfectly with the brown sauce and the beef. The Fried rice was the table favorite! Tender chicken with moist rice, egg and vegetables. It wasn't greasy, big bonus. My son said it was the best fried rice he had ever had. The Sesame Chicken was awesome! It was crispy and sweet and the broccoli was cooked to perfection!!! I can't stress enough about how happy I was that the veggies were cooked correctly and were not just an after thought. Love the color!!! Perfect!! While we were waiting for our meal, a family was being escorted to their seats and the father said, "I'm very excited, I have heard great things!" Those great things are true and we were extremely happy with our meal at the New Thai Kitchen! My son said that we should go there more often because everyone liked it!! I agree. Been working in Mason, staying in Okemos for 10 months and really needed to try a new restaurant. Saw the reviews of the recently (re)opened New Thai Kitchen and decided to give it a try. It was small. There was only one waitress and the owner/cook working when I went there on a Monday night. I was sure the service would be slow but boy was I wrong. It took me a couple minutes to get seated but once I was, the food was out quick. REAL quick. I choose the Chicken Pad Thai, the old stand by since it is kind of a measuring stick. It was real good. It was a little sweeter than some most I have had, not spicy at all. All of their dishes you basically choose the dish and then pick which meat you want in it, chicken, beef, pork or shrimp. The shrimp has a slight up charge over the other meats but pretty much all the entrees were less than $10 so it is good food cheap. Next time I want to try their Basil Fried Rice with meat. I tried several things. I liked their Crab Rangoon, Their spring rolls were good but I still prefer a classic Chinese Egg Roll to the spring rolls even though the Spring Rolls are probably a little more healthy. I was not a fan of the Fried Dumplings with Beef. The amount of meat was miniscule. I will pass on those next time. I liked it and I will go back. The interior of the restaurant is beautiful, and the food is sooo good. We've been twice, and I prefer eating there. The waiter and owner checked in on us and were very gracious. They offered a light soup and spring rolls before the meal which was unexpected and delicious. The curries are so yummy. They put a lot of sauce on the veggies and it's all cooked well. When we ordered take-out there was a very long wait, so plan ahead! Friends of ours visited the area from Grand Rapids, and chose this place for dinner because we'd taken him before.
