Been coming to this place since I was very young and I have noticed a dip in quality of the atmosphere and the food but I still come for nostalgia purposes, and that the food tastes close to what I remember it being! The inside definitely needs some work but the staff is very friendly and efficient so I can appreciate that at least. This place is incredible! I mean the food is very good and they have a hibachi grill that is incredible! They do basically only have Chinese and American food so its not really a wide range. The staff are very friendly and attentive with it basically just being great service! They never forgot to fill your water and clear your plates! One of the best buffets in Central Michigan for Chinese food. The service is good too with the average ambience. As well, it has a grill for Mongolian barbecue. We waited 20 minutes for a table. I went to the restroom (which was filthy and trash overflowing) and when I came back my husband said they had seated a large family that was friends with the hostess behind him because they didn't have a two top available. Come to find out every table seats two people. The waitress came and brought our drinks once (no refills) and never cleared our plates the entire time we were there. The food was mediocre at best. For an older person, the price for dinner momentarily shocked me at about $15. However, the variety of food, the tremendous quality of of the food and the quiet ambiance was well worth it. My wife eats mostly veggies, and was in heaven with the choices - both hot and cold. We were there on a Friday, and the fried fish was light, not greasy and flavorful; much like the fish fry's we were used to. To say this was a Chinese Buffet is deceitful. There was so much more. I especially liked the green bean chinese dish, the amazing mussels and the ability to choose ingredients for a personalized stir fry. This restaurant is a go to for my family. My dad literally comes here at least 6 times a week . I wish they had more meats to choose from but overall a good selection, always fresh food, and fast service. My favorites are the noodles, always so good! Their fried rice is also yummy along with the fried shrimp. The roasted potatoes with veggies are also good. And I love that they have an ice cream machine with cones. During a visit last night my wife and I realized we have frequented this restaurant for around 18 years or more. We've seen them through a move and many staff changes. They've seen us dating, married, and watched our babies grow. Why we keep coming back is because of a couple of key people and the food! This location was an Old Country Buffet years and years ago and was a great upgrade for World Buffet. The old location couldn't fit all the customers. Plus this location allows for the awesome options of many foods. There are 4 hot bars, a large salad bar, a desert bar with ice cream machines, a sushi bar, and a grill. There is something for everyone! Since discovering this place when we first settled in Lansing, my wife and I have moved twice, for short periods of time, and we have NEVER found anything that compares to the hot, tasty and fresh food we can get here. From simple flavors like the buttered shrimp and perfectly steamed white rice to the crawfish and egg rolls there is so much to eat. We all have our favorites. My parents love to start with large salads when they join us. I always head straight for peanut chicken, green beans, and an egg roll. My 9 yr old craves their buttered shrimp and noodles and my wife can't ever decide because she likes so much! A huge plus for us is the attention they give to stirring the food, replacing things that have sat on the bar too long, and keeping the bar clean and hot. We have never gotten sick from food here except when we've overeaten Sure, this is a lot of Americanized Chinese food, but it also has a lot of regional dishes and there is care and love in things. My significant other and I were craving BD's Mongolian BBQ/hibachi and the closest one to us is still an hour or so away, so we decided to try the World Buffet and Grill. Their hibachi grill had chicken, beef, shrimp, scallops, and eggs for protein, a fair amount of vegetables, two different kinds of noodles, and about six different sauces to choose from. I went with beef, lo mein noodles, green peppers, onions, carrots, broccoli, mushrooms, bean sprouts, and snow peas with brown sauce and light sweet and spicy sauce. I also tried some items from their buffet including honey, sesame, and general Tso chicken, peanut chicken, shrimp, fish, and spring rolls. Used to be our go to place but NOT anymore. While eating lunch sitting in the booth closet to the dessert bar I saw something behind my husband. I told him to turn around and look and there was a cockroach crawling on the wall. Immediately put down our silverware and we walked out, never to return! Don't know what's happened to this place. Servers seemed to disappear for great lengths of time, which lead to many dishes piling up, and no water to take down the salty food. After the reviews I have read I did not expect this place to be as good as it actually was. For the most part the food was plentiful, fresh and hot. They had a very large selection. I think the fried chicken wings were a little overcooked, but flavorful! This is one of those Chinese buffet places that alternates between just acceptable to pretty good. There's a good variety of food and it is generally pretty tasty. However, in the dining area, there seems to be a cleanliness issue. There was a spilled beverage on the floor near my table that was never cleaned up the entire time I was there. And something that can only be described as a severely used dog chew rawhide on the floor near the exit (assume it was dropped by a customer?). Also a napkin or tissue that was stained and crumpled up on the floor along the corridor leading to the restrooms and exit. Pretty gross. During my previous visit only one week ago, I had no issues whatsoever and the place was spotless. Perhaps going there closer to closing time is when we find the problems. At lunch it was very clean. It is pretty good.. for a buffet. Normally I don't eat a buffets, most of them are nasty and make you sick afterwards. This one seems clean as far as the food goes. It is not fancy, or hip, or cute. The food is decent, it is as good as most takeout Chinese restaurants here in Lansing. They have a wide variety of food including salad bar, desert bar, Mongolian style BBQ, some pizza or other American dish for the kids, and of course Chinese. I am a fan of the kung pao chicken and the crab rangoons but pretty much everything is decent. The one cute younger waitress is our favorite, she is attentive and very friendly. I never have had to wait to get a drink refill, and they are good about taking dirty plates away when you are finished. We walked in and the lady at the front was really blunt and short but then, after we sat down, the food was all only Asian foods and a dessert bar. The food was chewy and rubbery and drenched in sweet sugary syrup. The Pepsi tasted like carbonated water. We asked for a refund because we didn't enjoy the food and the lady at the front gave us a dirty look and then started talking to her coworkers in front of us about us and clearly mad. I really like the hibachi grill that they have because I'm on a low sodium diet and I can have them cook my food the way I like it. I will never go there again. I have gone there for years. I always took a few cookies. I cannot eat as much as other people, because I am diabetic. The manager/owner was really rude to me, August 2018. They made me open my purse. They wanted $2 extra for the cookies. They were confrontational. I explained to her that I cannot eat dessert with my meal. I always enjoyed the cookies later. She said I was stealing food. That I was taking food I had not paid for. I see it differently. She kept me from eating food that I had paid for. The meal was $10. Another $2 is a 20% upcharge. Maybe they got a new camera system. The staff acted very police like. I've been to 2 buffets in the Lansing area. World Buffet was the worse of the 2. If I had a choice I would take me Andy family to Asian Buffet. It's across from meridian mall in the same plaza as target. They have all around better food, better sushi selection and their crab Rangoon actually has filling in them.
