Royal Buffet is seriously one of the best value buffets that I've ever been to. The prices are really good and the variety is amazing. I came for the first time for the lunch deal and was not disappointed. The thing that I really like about Royal Buffet is that I know in the future that I can come here and can always find something that I like. I don't even need to know what I'm craving that day but will always find it once I'm inside and am customizing my own plates. When I'm looking for more savory hot foods, I'll go for the Mongolian barbecue (I recommend the garlic sauce), and depending on how light or heavy I want it, I'll choose my meats/veggies accordingly. On the opposite end, if I'm looking for a lighter, less oily meal, I head towards the sushi and sashimi bar, where there's tons of variety in what kinds of sushi are available (fair warning: the sushimi selection was not nearly as big). Then there's a whole selection of hot Chinese food and dim sum that sates my appetite for anything in between. The buffet is no Michelin star (who goes to a buffet expecting that anyway?) but if you're looking for a great meal and a customizable experience, I'd say this is really the best bang for your buck. read more

I'm giving Royal 1 star for 2 major reasons: 1-the quality of food is pretty bad. I couldn't believe all the meat I picked we're both dry and didn't even taste good. You can tell when the grade of meat is low and it was low believe me. Meats I ate: Mongolian beef, beef and broccoli, mushroom and beef cubes, short ribs, teriyaki chicken. They were all pretty bad. 2-price for what we were getting was not worth it at all. We had 4 adults and 2 young kids and the bill was pretty outrageous. $126 then add tax and tip! I wouldn't complain if the food quality was high but that's ridiculous in my opinion. One last thing...as I walked by the area where the servers get drinks and have their clean up carts, there's chunks of food just laying on the ground and the smell is pretty bad too. Quality over quantity. This age old saying is one I believe Royal buffet would benefit from if they took that into mind. Upon first entering, I noticed the place was MASSIVE. It could have easily been an entertainment complex ages before Royal was open. The dining room was accented by beautiful lighting and appeared to be clean. Anyways, I believed the restaurant had a lot of potential when I was going in - the options provided were endless. There is 1) a hibachi station that has ribeye steak, chicken, shrimp, pork, etc 2) a sushi bar with everything from fried rolls, sashimi, hand rolls 3) a Chinese dim sum bar/Americanized Chinese staples (lo mein, stir fry, fried rice) and obviously the main attraction 4) seafood from whole crabs, softshell crab and oysters. The underlying problem is that (mostly) everything there is not good at all. And I'm exclaiming to you: I TRIED, TRIED, TRIED to like this place. Let's start with the Ugly: The sushi. The rolls contained too much rice to fish to be enjoyable, was presented sloppy with how the nori was wrapped and, somehow, cream cheese was present in almost EVERY roll there. The sashimi/fish used is of terrible quality (I know we are at a buffet and they need to keep costs low, but if I am paying $27.99, I'd expect to get something halfway decent). To describe, the fish was dry to a pulp and withering away even when the sushi chef sliced it moments before. The bad: The Chinese staples and dim sum were bland and nothing seemed to be seasoned at all. Shu mai and chicken feet were at least okay. You would expect that at least things like lo mein wouldn't be dried out and under seasoned. The seafood options of: 1) calamari was chewy to the max, 2) the oysters were rancid with a pungent aftertaste and 3) the steamed fish (whitefish and salmon) were also dried out like the heat lamp took out any moisture left in their poor bodies. The good: The seafood options of: 1) crab was alright 2) the crawfish was edible and 3) the softshell crab was actually pretty tasty. Lines form extensively for seafood, though, so you're more than likely going to walk away with less than you were hoping to put on your plate. Red bean ice cream and matcha ice cream were a pleasant surprise, but you really can't screw up ice cream now, can you? Overall, for paying $27.99 that night, I felt incredibly underwhelmed. The quality of the food was just not comparable to what I could get at name brand buffets with seafood for the same price (Harrah's and Ameristar to name a few). This is one of my favorite Asian buffets! During the weekdays, lunch is something like 14$ per person. They have sushi, a hibachi grill, dim sum, traditional dishes as well as some Americanized dishes (fries, pizza), and then a long dessert row. I must say, for buffet sushi, it's pretty decent! We always look to try new places, but then we drive by here and go, maybe we will just eat here :) There's so many things to try and for 14$ it's not bad! Great place for buffet. Lunch is at around half price. They have lobster night on Wedn and Friday. Other times are just crab legs. Lots of selections, one of the best places for Chinese buffet. Services are averagely good. If you go for dinner, be sure to be there early. They will stop replenishing food at 8pm. The worst buffet I have ever been to and I mean I been to some cheap buffets!!! The plates are drenched and smell like fish! They do not dry the plates when they put them out! The line for crab legs took us 45 min to get to the front and we only got 3 legs! The food at the buffet was cold and stale and flavorless!!! While the line for the crab legs was outrageous the employees were kneeled down and all on their phones while we all wait for one person to bring us out crab legs! Our server was the worst! We had plates piled up I had to walk up to her and ask her to remove them and I asked for 4 cokes she rolled her eyes and got up didn't even say ok. This place doesn't even deserve the one star! I wish I could give them a negative rating! When we left we were so digested with the chefs the service and the food we didn't tip because we didn't get service. For the second time in the 2 hours we were there I seen the waitress she ran up to us and asked us for a tip and we told her we didn't feel anyone deserved it she said wow and walked away! I'll start out by saying that I know buffets aren't known for their good food, it's a quantity over quality thing and also, I went with a group of 18 people. I thought I'd do a disclaimer. The food is not worth $27.99 for dinner. It's not even remotely close. Yes, there is a lot of choices but, the quality absolutely sucked and none of the group got crab legs. What they should do is charge a separate price for those who get crab legs and those who do not. But that's just my opinion. The food was most definitely not worth $27.99. We had one member of the group who did not eat anything. He didn't get up from his chair the entire time. He just wanted to mingle with the group. The waiter was going to charge him the amount it was for the buffet yet, we all told the waiter that he didn't get up. The waiter then rudely said he'd check the security cameras (yeah, there's security cameras) to verify that. The waiter didn't even tell us tip was included in our bill. I had to ask to see the receipt before handing him my debit card. Not to mention, the service was awful. The waiter did not clean up our dirty plates and was quite rude. The bathrooms are disgusting. I understand the place is huge but, at least keep your bathrooms clean. All in all, I would never return to this place. I mean the food - it's pretty much the same old royal we know and love/hate on 75th street. I seriously doubt anyone will go there for the teppanyaki grill (nor will they have a chef to use it) but that is a LOT of seating area to be filled. You definitely won't be waiting for an hour for a table like at the place on 75th. Such a good variety of Asian foods are served here that you needn't worry too much about searching the whole place to load up on whatever's worth the most value. Sure, maybe the sashimi and/or shellfish win that game, but it's not like the other foods there are French fries in comparison (they do actually have fries though, I think). I was expecting only Americanized Asian cuisine here at first, but they do offer a good amount of foods that you won't find at your local takeout restaurant. After tax the dinner price was around $30, so with appropriate expectations set in mind the overall quality of the food makes this place worthy of 3.5 to 4 stars. If the variety of desserts (and crepe toppings) was stronger then I'd give it a sure 4 stars but many of the available dessert items were too similar to each other. Not that this place is horrible but there are certainly better buffets. The whole spread is very seafood and fish centric. While there is a very good variety it seems to be on the more authentic side. So if your the General Tso's and fried rice type you will find it here but not the same sauce change the protein like many of the buffets. The sushi was decent but once again nothing special. They also had a mongolian bbq flat top but I didn't try it. The fish was a little strong smelling but that is nothing new considering it is a buffet. Tonight Royal Buffet was just okay. The sushi I had got better at the end of our meal. When they first open for dinner at like 5:00 the I grabbed some fresh sushi and sat down to eat it. The " red snapper' was not good It was chewy and hard to break down the tissue of the fish. I couldn't eat it. It was not pleasurable. I liked their crab legs that was easy to eat and very tasty. I enjoyed their stir-fry beef dishes and string beans. I love their dessert soups. I pretty stuffed after about three plates of food. I don't do well with buffets. Don't care for them much but when you have 30+ people in town it's hard to find a place to dine with big space. I've been here twice, both times weren't bad at all. Because we have so many people in our party we are always in a private room. Which is very far from the buffet. Therefore whenever we get our hot food from the buffet...with the 2 minute walk back to our table. The food gets cold easily. Other than that it's an ok place. I've been here for lunch and for dinner. In both cases, there's a variety of stir-fry dishes; focusing more on the seafood side than on chicken or beef. There are also appetizers like spring rolls and pot stickers. There's a couple of soups - I generally get hot and sour. There are over a dozen different sushi options; about a dozen nigiri options; about 6 sashimi options; fresh oysters, clams, and mussels, and some pickled vegetables. There's also a "mongolian style" food bar where you pick the ingredients and they cook it up. There are a few authentic dishes that are foreign to westerners that I couldn't really tell you what they are. Finally, there's several types of fresh fruit; several desserts; ice cream and enough tables and choices to make this place packed. For dinners they bring out crab, sometimes lobster, and augment some of the selections. The food is quite good for a buffet - I'd give it 5 stars except the price is on the high side - of course if you pig out on lobster or sashimi - you'll exceed your money's worth. read more

Royal Buffet is an extremely polarizing place for me. On one hand, it's a pretty great deal, for the variety of food you get for the price you pay. On another hand, the food can be hit or miss. This isn't going to be your luxury Vegas buffet. There's also a nice dessert bar with some neat selections for ice cream (green tea!) I'm never actually able to eat enough to recoup what I paid, but I certainly leave extremely full. I also have only come here for lunch, but I don't believe that the options are different from those served at dinner (Except lobster? or crab legs?) One of the better buffets you'll find in the Midwest. Very busy, but they always seem to re-stock quickly. They have a wide variety of very good food, so don't get too excited when you get there. Pace yourself so you can try a lot of dishes. I really appreciate how they personally have a worker passing out the crab legs to ensure everyone gets their fair share. The last time I went here, it was fantastic. But that was about 3 years ago. I just went there this past Friday and wow, have they changed. They used to give out whole lobsters and waiting in line was not that long. But now, they have cut the lobster in half and only give out 8 - 10 half lobsters every 5-10 minutes. Since the lobster line was long, I decided to try other things. That was a mistake. I love oysters but trying the ones that they had there almost made me puke. No matter how much lemon juice or tabasco I put on it, it did not remove the foul taste. Oysters were not fresh by any means. Also, if you leave any food on your plate, they will charge you extra. I understand not wasting food but if it's not good and makes you want to puke, then why are we being charged for it? I hate to say, but this will be my last time going to this place. I am so torn on this place. Our family has been coming here for over five years already, but I find this place not as good as it was before. We typically come here on Friday nights, so we can partake on the lobster/crab line. I find myself gravitating more to the crab legs than the lobster. My husband and father still like the lobster, so I just grab one for them when I am there. The crab legs are hit and miss. There are days where it's super salty and barely any flavor and there are days where they are fresh and awesome. It's really just a gamble. If you don't want to wait at least 15mins for the lobster/crab, they have other foods that are pretty good. I love their scallops with cheese, scallops with vermicelli, salt and pepper shrimp, green beans, and fried rice. They used to make scallion pancakes, but lately I haven't seen them putting it out. They also have sushi, which I've tried some. For the most part, they taste pretty good. Nothing fancy, but definitely edible. They also have cold items next to the sushi section. The raw oysters are also hit or miss. I've almost given up on them already. I've never tried the Mongolian BBQ, but I've always seen some people get it, so I am assuming it tastes pretty good. Fruit and dessert are average. They have a chocolate fountain that is hardly ever on. My favorite dessert there are the crepes. You have to wait in line, but at least it's made in front of you and tastes great. They also have ice cream, cakes, and cotton candy. The fruit tastes ok. The service there is also hit or miss. Sometimes we have great servers that are attentive. We tend to have a ton of plates that need to be removed, and there are servers that just ignore it when they walk by. The ones that frequently remove them tend to get a better tip from us! They won't refill soft drinks unless you tell them. I've noticed mine being empty, and I don't get any refills unless I say something to the server. Will I come back? I probably would, but the frequency has definitely been prolonged. The waitress didn't come around too often but was fast and ready for that check. Paid the $70 for only 3 plates. As I was doing her tip she literally waited behind me, and of course I notice so I didn't go back to the check until she grew tired and walked away. Came back within 2 minutes. Turned the check towards her opened it and looked to see the tip right next to me. It was very awkward and really wish I didn't leave her any tip at all.
