Went here because I come from his hometown and used to see him around town. Food was good and plenty of sauces.

It's clean and the service is fast and the food is great. We drive all the way from Pennsylvania just to eat here :)

My family stopped at this Roy Rogers on our way to Washington DC. As other people have stated the restaurant is extremely clean. Exceptionally clean. Service was fair. We arrived around 530 on a Thursday and it was fairly busy. My two sons ordered milkshakes and they weren't ready until five minutes after our food was ready. Also they ran out of smaller cups and still upcharged fora large cup which I felt was a poor practice. Overall the food was very good. Three fried chicken dinners and a steak and cheese sandwich. We don't have Roy Rogers in our area anymore and it is a guilty pleasure. I didn't like the speed of service and the upcharge on drinks that shouldn't have occurred. I'm there used to be a Roy Rogers near me in Moon, PA when I was a kid but it went out of business and I assumed that the entire chain went under. Wrong! I was shocked to discover that there are still some locations open, one of which is in Cumberland. So, while I was visiting from New Orleans I decided to take a ride and check it out. The food was just as awesome as I remember it being when I was a kid. But the star of the show was a girl named Vanessa who took my order. WOW! I've been to 48 states and 23 countries and I've never seen a more perfectly beautiful woman than her. I love the fried chicken at Roy's. I don't eat out much but was wanting something to take home after driving a few hours back from a trip. The chicken is always great here. I wish I could skip the soda and biscuit and just have a second side dish with the combo meal. The restaurant always is bright and clean. I really like Roy Rogers chain and have always have had a good experience. Today was probably the worst experience I have had. To the point I was a little mad and very disappointed. The people I was with experience similar dissatisfaction. So this is including them also. The roast beef sandwiches had 0 flavor and the color of the meat was pail gray color. Not the normal quality I normally get. Reminded me of a buffet warmer. A glass of water was ordered. We were basically told no that a bottle of water had to be purchased and they could give me a cup of ice . Also I believe a manager overhauling a younger employee was very on called for . It was at 5:00 they were a little busy. But it was at the counter where all customers could see. I can nick pick on the rest but it really doesn't matter. Had a few other options in the immediate area but decided to try Roy Rogers. Glad we did. They have burgers, chicken and roast beef sandwiches. The sandwiches we had were excellent but the fries were just average. Not bad though. There's a fixin bar to customize your sandwich with fresh lettuce pickles etc. The place was very clean including the restrooms. The staff was very pleasant. I wish there was a RR closer to me. If I'm in Cumberland again I'll definitely stop. read more

If you're wondering what the chances would be to get food from here a year ago, with one item missing, not come back for over a year til today, get food and have something missing again, it's 100%. It was my own foolishness to return. These people can look you in the eye at the drive through, say absolutely to your request for a couple of sauces, and completely forget, or just don't, put them in the bag. Which wouldn't have been a big deal if I had had some random sauces in my car or purse. Nope. As it was, I had to go back to work and eat lunch in my office because I had some dipping sauces there. And these 2 times are not the only times they've forgotten something. Sometimes I check my bag at the window, but sometimes I don't if there's a huge line waiting behind me. And I shouldn't have to! Sure, they may have better than sub-par food like other fast food places have, but you pay for it! And sometimes you don't even get what you pay for! This maybe the second time I've been to Roy Rogers in over 10 years and this place hasn't skipped a beat. I ordered the Gold Rush, a crispy chicken and bacon sandwich. They have a little toppings bar to add your basic burger toppings. The fries were even better than the sandwich. Fresh and hot and lightly salted. Great little Roy's in Cumberland by the train tracks and under the highway. Atmosphere and decorations are very nice. There's a sun room on the front of the restaurant and a living room space in the back with a gas fireplace. Food is cooked well and meets my expectations (which are high) for Roy Rogers. If you're traveling on I-68, this is a great place to stop for a bite to eat. Convenient to get on and off the highway, but probably not good for big trucks since the parking lot is small. read more

This is a place that is a symbol of my childhood. I live in the Cincinnati tri state area and over the past many years all of the Roy Rogers restaurants have moved out of my area. We still have the locally owned Roney's who serves many Roy Rogers signature items as well as the original bbq sauce which is a big draw for me. Here in Maryland when I was traveling home from Philly I couldn't resist the urge to stop here. The roast beef and fries were dead on what I remember which is awesome. The right kaiser roll and delicious roast beef with a bit of brown gravy on it. The bbq sauce was totally different from the original as it was kinda vinegar based it seemed and had a different spice blend. It was still a decent sauce but a far cry from the one of my childhood and the one Roney's offers. Still all in all a delicious lunch. read more

I've been enjoying Roy Rogers for many years (mostly in Frederick and Montgomery County) and have often eaten here when in the area. Yesterday I was served a dry inedible roast beef sandwich (actually two sandwiches as my wife's was identical). We threw over half of each sandwich away. RECOMMENDED : To be honest, it is very hard to review a fast-food place. That being said there are better franchises than others. I have been coming to this branch for years. There are a couple of things that would make a trip here more enjoyable. LOCATION: First, the location is the best part of this Roy Rogers- especially for those who are traveling through the area. It is immediately off the interstate located with easy access on and off I-68. It is also located near other fast food joints (Wendy's and Taco Bell) so if others in your party want diversity in food, everyone can be accommodated. AMENITIES: The main issue I have always had with this location is that there is NO DRIVE THRU. I cannot speak for other Roys, but that takes away from the experience especially if you are trying to snatch and grab and hit the road. There is a nice Fixins Bar for fresh additions to your sandwiches etc. There is a good deal of seating as well, including a greenhouse area if you are trying to grab some indoor rays while eating. EXPERIENCE: This is a fairly good location. I have had isolated problems with some visits but overall they run a pretty tight ship. There are some tips to remember: If you are visiting or planning to visit during lunch peak hours (11AM-130PM), prepare to wait somewhat. Obviously that is with any food location, but this is frequented by plenty of people who work downtown and in the area. Overall - a B+ grade. read more

While driving home from Lexington,I saw the sign for Roy Rogers and had to stop in! Like a couple of other Yelpers whose Roys have disappeared,so too in Connecticut! WHAT HAPPENED? Back to Cumberland! It's just down the ramp and almost underneath I68 East! Very inviting,new and cozy building! The young lady who took our order(Breanna) appeared to actually enjoy talking to us! The main reason for this review was to inform people to pay attention while at this establishment because they charge at least a dollar some items more than a dollar than the advertised price!!!! What I was getting was $6.49 before tax they rang up $7.79 plus tax it ended up being close to $9 but anyways I had them try another item and same out coke so I decided to pass on this roy rogers it upsets me that they get away with and the majority of their clients while I was in there where senior citizens so makes since that they would take advantage of them because they don't notice it as often anyways be safe people read more

Heading home from Ohiopyle I knew that we would be stopping at one of the Roy Rogers on our way home (unfortunately all the locations in the area we live closed) and this was the first we came to. Unlike every other location I have been to the staff here were not very friendly and welcoming but I was only there for carry out so no biggie. The food was hot and fresh but the large roast beef and cheese hubby usually gets seemed a bit on the small size compared to the sandwiches he has gotten elsewhere and my order took much longer then any other location. I was the only person waiting in the lobby for food so I naturally assumed that the orders they were placing in front of me were mine (turns out it was Grub Hub Orders) and the staff seemed more concerned with getting those orders together than those of myself and others who were in the drive through. Even though their was only 1 diner in the restaurant the place just didn't feel very clean and welcoming so I'm glad we had previously planned on eating in our car. Something else that was a bit annoying was how they took such care to put the Grub Hub orders in large plastic bags (including condiments, fixing cups and cup holders) but I was handed a paper bag that was filled to the rim & about to rip and 2 drinks without a holder and forget about asking for condiments, apparently that's a big inconvenience, thankfully I keep a stash in my car. read more

We really never review fast foo restaurants, simply because many (whether they're good or not) aren't consistent enough to be worthy of the time and effort of an evaluation. But I've visited this particular Roy Rogers twice in my life; once in 2005 and again in October 2014 and I was IMPRESSED to see that the service, quality of food and cleanliness was the same on both visits - GREAT! They clearly take pride in working at this restaurant and it shows in the product they produce! It's sad taht many Roy Rogers restaurants closed down years ago, as they do have a superior product, especially when compared to many of the other, typical fast food restaurants. The roast beef here is fresh from a whole round of beef, not compressed beef parts, like in some other roast beef places. The Fixin's Bar here was nice and clean and filled with all the goodies to make your meal better and they even had a real fireplace in the lobby of the restaurant that you could sit in front of! What's really nice is that you could talk to them in English rather than having to use a number system to place an order!! It would be nice for the management of this particular restaurant to open more just like this one in the DC area! read more

It's back! After closing in the spring of 2016, Roy's has reopened in August with a new from the ground up building AND a new drive through lane! The food is as good and fresh as ever - the roast beef sandwich was like a reunion with a long lost friend. They had a few bumps on the re-opening - ice machine kept jamming, huge drive through lines winding out to the main street, but the food is as good and fresh as ever. The service was excellent and friendly. Staff kept calm in the face of super bowl size crowds and delivered the proverbial goods. The only thing to be alert to is the drive through - At Roy's the food is made hen you order it. If its an egg based breakfast order, the eggs are cracked when you give the order. Ditto the Roast Beef sandwiches - made after they are ordered so the food is always hot and fresh. It can be a little slow in the waiting line compared to a place like Burger King or McDonalds where the food elements are premade. It is worth the wait. I went to this location on this past Friday at around 10 pm. I ordered a kids meal with two chicken tenders, macaroni and cheese, and got a biscuit on the side. I didn't eat anything else that entire day so I know that I got food poisoning from something I ate from there. The chicken was only room temperature, but I was so hungry I ate it anyway. The next morning (New Years Eve) I was so sick I couldn't get out of bed and was throwing up the whole day. My whole weekend was ruined and spent in bed sick, I was supposed to run in a race - that didn't happen, supposed to go out for New Years which I already paid for - that didn't happen! If you're going to stay open late please make sure that you're serving the same quality food you serve during the day! read more
