What do you do when the arrogance of a business manager and store clerk completely takes a great experience and makes it completely bad. Where do I begin, I found this restaurant online and ordered for a few of my co-workers, our food was delivered on time and extremely delicious. With this experience we kept ordering and even at times went directly to the location to pick up dinner as we headed home. Well today is my last time ever ordering from this place and here are my reasons why. I called to place an order and at the end of the order I proceeded to pay with a card as I have done so several times before but was informed that the store does not accept cards. Sad at this I informed the clerk that I only had a card and then said "it's on thanks anyway" and hung up the phone. Several minutes later a delivery man approached my job with the order that I was not expecting, I informed him that after being told that they only accept cash I thought the order would be cancel since I did not provide verbal consent that the delivery would be fine. Rudely, the driver left and within minutes my company's phone received a call from the most disgusting and unprofessional manager ever. He said several things which lacked professionalism and proceeded to argue with me on my business line in regards to the food being dropped and me canceling on the spot. As I kept trying to defend myself as my boss stood by upset that a company would call and disrespect someone as his tone and words were beyond nasty. he then proceeded to tell me that he no longer wants us to contact his business to order and that he tapped my conversation with he young lady who took he orders. I know my legal rights and should I desire to go further with this I certainly see no issue in doing so. For one, no professional establishment would call and argue with a loyal customer rather find explanation as to what caused the mix up and if anything explain why the lack of proper communication caused them to suffer a loss in a $10.50 meal. Secondly, in the state of New York whenever someone is being recorded and this information is threatened to be used against them you must inform the person that this call is being recorded as all debt collectors and other places of true professionalism do. Thirdly, as a manager, customer ethics are important and the manner in which this disgusting brute conducted himself today makes it clear that he can and will never move beyond where he is and that of his poorly operator business. It was so nasty to see a great place do such a stupid move so in warning my fellow yelpers to stay clear of this establishment as one mess up on your end can cause the owner to curse you out on the phone. Every time I round my corner after a hard day's work to see Rowe's welcoming interior with Dudley inside, charming the neighborhood, I feel grateful! Indeed, he and his amiable staff create mountains and rivers of delicious, fresh food and juices at amazing prices. I have a bad crush on his Brown Stew Chicken with its velvety, spicy elegance and each time intending to try a new entree...but cannot seem to stray! A friend once had the Escovitched Fish and said it was divine. I am particular about my Plantains, which have just the right hint of caramelized sweetness around the edges. This place has been good and bad to me. I normally get either the jerk chicken or oxtails. Both are amazing. Almost as if I cooked it myself. When they first opened, I ordered from them often. But the last few times, the rice has been a bit...undercooked. It has a very grainy, tough taste to it. Both the rice and peas and the white rice. I have ordered twice from here. Once I stopped by for Ackee and Saltfish - it was pretty tasty. So I decided to order again but Oxtails and for delivery this time around... the rice tasted old - Mac n cheese was not good...oxtails weren't tender but rather rough and charred kind of. This place is one of our favourite memories of Brooklyn! Not a lot of seats, no decoration, but service and friendliness and the FOOD! And the PRICE!!!! We were tired from a long day of tourism and couldn't decide what to eat. The owner came to our rescue and ordered us an amazing meal, the OXTAIL stew - I am going to be dreaming of that for weeks, was amazing, as was the chicken curry. he brought us a large bowl of rice and beans, and complimentary soups, and when he told us the total I thought it was a joke. even the kids gave some of their pocket money as a tip - we loved it so much! read more

Rowe's recently opened up a branch of their restaurant on Fulton Street and I've been there 2-3 times since. I'd give them an average rating, but it is much better than the last Jamaican Restaurant that was in the space previously. The counter girl is also much nicer this time around. I order the curry goat each time, and it varies from THE BUSINESS to just meh. The last time I ordered it, it tasted a bit overcooked and there wasn't enough gravy. They probably switch chefs, and I need to find out who the better one is and only go in there when he is working. All in all, it's close to my crib so I will most likely be back. read more

This space where the restaurant is has been changed up so much last I checked the name was Bickles.. They were horrible serving ppl stale over cooked food. ROWES... It's OK... I've never been to this location on Tompkins I go to the new one opened on Fulton right by the Franklin C train station and Shuttle. The food is decent... I'll go sparingly... but I don't expect the business to last long.. That strip from the train station past Claver Pl to Classon is not meant for food spots unless it's Chinese food. They would really have to wow the customers and get them solicitors from hanging out in front of their establishment. Service sucks! We ordered food and after an hour called the business to find out where the food was only to be informed that the lady that took our order did not put it in and left for the day. Because we were so hungry and craving oxtails we reordered (which came within 20mins) and it was pretty basic. The gravy was a bit watery and rice and peas were mehhh...... maybe we got the last batch of the food since it was close to closing time. Ohh and no one apologized btw for messing up the order. This place is a step up from the usual Caribbean joints - super friendly and quick service. Also, when you dine in they serve you the food on a real plate and give you real utensils! Definitely gives it a more homey feel. The ambiance is pleasant and clean. Also: I ordered fried chicken. the woman looked at it and said, "It's too dry, I can't serve it." I would give more stars but I can't.. I went in for the red pea soup. I love red pea, I eat it everyday from all different west Indian restaurants. So I clearly saw the price for a small was 3.50 and the lady charged me 3.80. I didn't say anything because why would she want to cheat me for 30 cent!! Lol I won't be going back because it's the principle. And if your employees are crooks then the business is as well to me in my eyes. This is my spot for breakfast and lunch where I receive service with a smile. They are serving up home cooked Jamaican food with generous portions and reasonably priced. They are also very reasonably priced for catering functions. Dishes I enjoy are their daily variety of porridges, callaloo and sawfish with boiled dumplings, stewed/jerked/fried chicken and macaroni pie. You must try their homemade fruit juices! read more

They were able to handle the volume and we got our food within a reasonable time. The seating is limited and we filled the restaurant. They have an A rating from the city posted in front. My mum and I shared a lunch meal here last week. It was great! Cheap and absolutely delicious. We ordered the fried chicken to share, which came with rice and a plantain. The plantain isn't the best I've had but it was still excellent. The chicken was tender and the rice was damn yummy! The sauce for the fried chicken wasn't ready yet (we got there right after the start of lunch period) when we got there so we got curry sauce on our rice! The bill was short of 8$! read more

We order from Rowes at least once a week. The food is definitely some of the best West Indian in Bed Stuy (and there are a lot of W.I. choices in Bed Stuy, so that's saying somethin'...). The jerk chicken dinner is huge and flavorful: the jerk sauce is complex, with the perfect balance of sweet and spicy. As another reviewer mentioned, the dinners come with rice and peas (delicious with just a hint of coconut), stewed cabbage (surprisingly tasty) and plantains. The chicken roti and strewed chicken are also fantastic dishes, as are the patties (chicken, beef, veggie). Every now and then, they have yams, which are ridiculously good. Our kids LOVE the mac and cheese. Mr. Rowe is a lovely man, and he often delivers the food personally. We've had Rowes cater two parties, to rave reviews from our friends. We've never actually eaten at the restaurant, but it's a cute spot and looks clean and inviting. read more

I am of Jamaican descent and I know that whomever own this restaurant couldn't dare open up a place back home, they would get chased out of town. As a Bed Stuy Newbie I'm trying out the takeout circuit and decided to give them a call about 8pm. Ordered a curry goat for my son with rice and peas and plantain, while ordering a large jerk chicken for myself because I wanted some for the next day to take with me to work for lunch. First, my son's curry goat had more salt in it than curry. The plantains were not ripe as well as cold. It was if they had half way fried it from early in the afternoon. Oh my, my jerk chicken was not jerked at all. Just regular chicken with some nasty ass sauce on top. I asked for oxtail gravy on my rice and couldn't stop biting bones. Since when does gravy have bones in it.???? Ok, so needless to say I will not be ordering from here again. I ate here last year ,I had a taste for some west Indian food ,this is actually my second time coming here,the last time ,I came with my boyfriend he ordered something for himself,I taste it and thought it wasn't bad but it wasn't spectacular ,so last year I decided to try again,it was one of the coldest days of winter and I didn't want to have to go to far to get some west Indian food ordered my food and ordered some carrot juice,when they put the carrot juice on the counter ,I noticed it didn't have a sticker on it like the rest of the carrot juices in the fridge,but I didn't think anything of it ,I got home started eating my food once again it wasn't bad ,but it wasn't nothing to brag about,I had curry goat rice and beans,with plantains (sweet) they only gave me one...I open my carrot juice and it was sour ,I was so upset ,I guess I realize why their wasn't a Sticker on it it was no longer drinkable ,they wanted to get rid of it so they just gave it to me..and no it didn't look different hadn't lost its color nor did it look sour,I decided that will be my second and last visit to this establishment...I'm glad the other people giving ratings had a good experience at this restaurant,because I didn't have one and that's terrible because I love west Indian food and I live close by,and the reason I didn't take it back was because it was one of the coldest days of winter,I had no desire to go back out in that weather, read more

Their fried fish cakes are addictive. Crunchy, spicy, yummy. I've eaten there often, always loved whatever stew or curry dish I've had, and the rice and peas are excellent, as is the cooked cabbage thing they put as a side on any stew dish. I visited Rowe's on June 10, to make a carry out order for 4 people. We came to the area to the see a Summer Stage show in the Von King park. The food was terrific and each order had very generous servings. We had the jerk chicken, with rice and peas, and the mac and cheese as sides. We only ordered one side with each dinner, and the dinner also came with cabbage and a plantain. The lemonade was very refreshing. The price was reasonable, and the service was excellent. The woman to took our order was patient with us, as we tried to decide what to eat. This is a short walk from the Von King park, and we took our orders back and ate at picnic tables in the park as the show was getting organized to start. Awesome!!!!! read more

This is the second time I have this restaurant a chance. The first time the food was ok nothing really great but they didn't have any macaroni and cheese. Just today I placed an order for delivery and after an hour of no response called back to see where my food was. That's when the said "oh the food had to be $10 for delivery". We were biking around, desperate for some Roti. So many restaurants were closed. We asked locals. We found Rowe's. It was DELICIOUS. The owner, Dudley, is a total sweetheart, from Jamaica. I had goat roti. Portions were huge and amazing. We also had red bean soup with dumplings which I'd never had before. It's a specialty- he makes different soups on different days. They have Jamaican breakfast there including fried dumpling with plantains. I forgot! They make their own, GREAT ginger beer- fresh grated ginger. And homemade lemonade. We mixed them together. That was insanely good. They have grape nut ice cream, sweet potato pudding, corn meal pudding, jamaican fruit cake. They do oxtail, jerk cicken and goat, mac and cheese, cow foot soup, kingfish and red snapper. And patties - like jerk chicken $1.75. Prices are totally reasonable. Almost everything is under $10 for dinner. Under $8 for lunch. Around $6 for breakfast. They have cucumber juice, Baba roots. carrot juice. It's great. The place is pretty and new and casual. About 4 tables. You go up to the counter and order and they bring it to your table. When we were there, there were two policemen there. We CHOWED and we loved Dudley and took our food home.
