This is a fun, casual spot with Route 66 memorabilia covering nearly every surface, giving it a classic retro highway diner vibe. The proprietors of this restaurant put a lot of effort into their property's curb appeal. It's set back from the street, so they made sure there were plenty of bright colors curbside to catch the passing tourist's eye. My wife & I respect the hustle. We gave it a shot. Inside, the decor is "over the top '50s-style diner." Rockabilly plays over the speakers; there are enough curios and eye-catchers to keep the casual diner interested for their entire meal. Speaking of the meal, my wife was happy with her fish tacos and I liked my salad. Neither was spectacular, but both did the job. Our service was slow, particularly for a weekday early in the season. We tried the lobster BLT, clam chowder, fried halibut sandwich, and bam shrimp Cobb salad -- all really good! The blueberry soda was a so tasty - definitely worth ordering. That said, our server really brought the experience down. He never checked on us, we had to ask twice for a lime (never got it) and when we asked for his name, he seemed hesitant -- probably because he knows he's not providing great service. It felt like he had a bad attitude from the moment we sat down. I won't share his name because maybe he was having a bad day but come on dude, there was maybe 5 tables in the entire restaurant. Nice diner vibe with a lot of retro decor and a varied menu. The seafood newberg is great, with a creamy sauce and nicely toasted bread. Why weren't there more people in this place? Maybe it was because it's set back from the street. We had an outstanding meal. I had the seafood Newberg and my wife had lobster tacos. We also had a lobster dip with chips as an appetizer. All were excellent. The place is decorated with all sorts of Americana -- bottles, toys, photos of Marilyn Monroe -- but the accent was on the food. I was here almost two years ago, in June 2021, when I was in the area, and I still think about those blueberry margaritas. I had as many as I could while I was there. I wish I could buy it in jugs to have back home. You MUST try the blueberry margarita (with a sugar rim - I was given a choice for salt or sugar rim). This was pretty nice place. When we walked up, I recognize the restaurant and was trying to figure it out and realized I had seen this place on TikTok a couple years ago. A lot of the comments said that the place was kind of pricey, but I'm here to tell you that the prices were 23 dollars less for a beer than down the street And other prices for things were a little bit cheaper too. I felt like this was one of the more affordable venues in comparison to the area of the places that we checked out. Front of ours got the lobster roll and it was the favorite one that he had. They have a really good blueberry wheat beer and it's only eight bucks for a pint and that's pretty great. They have a blueberry pie made with blueberry from Maine. Probably something you should check out if you wanna have something that is local. we were here a few days before peak season began and so it wasn't too busy and we had really great service. read more

We chose Route 66 for an early dinner on a bustling Friday night in Bar Harbor. We did not have a reservation and had a group of 8 but were [gladly] seated in (2) groups of four. It wasn't the first time we had to do that this week, so it was not a big deal! We were seated in booths across from one another. Our server was incredibly personable and accommodating. She went above and beyond. I wish I caught her name. She had several facial piercings. I do know that! First - the Kid's mac and cheese was my daughter's favorite - good 'ol Kraft. My other daughter enjoyed the pasta with marinara (fettuccine noodles). Other dishes amongst our crowd: Chicken & Waffles, Poppables Burger, Seafood Alfredo, Fish & Chips, Shrimp Scampi and the Haddock tacos. Everyone raved. I had the tacos. My family and I came here for lunch, and it has a very unique interior that makes you feel like you're stepping back into the 50s-60s! The restaurant is head to toe decked out in retro gadgets and signs, and super cool. The food took a very long time to come, but was overall pretty alright. Also important to note that we visited Maine during a non-peak season, and this was one of the few restaurants that were open, if you're planning a visit! Maine Poppables: This was my favorite dish, and I overheard another table order another round of these because they were so good! They're cheese curds served with a flavorful chunky sweet tomato sauce, and the cheese curds were so crispy without being overly oily. 2. BBQ Chicken Pizza: I was disappointed by this one, because the pizza itself was kind of small, and very doughy. There wasn't enough sauce and chicken on it. 3. Lobster Bisque: This was tasty, though there weren't a ton of lobster chunks. 4. Chicken Beet Walnut Salad: Interestingly, no dressing was served with this. I am on vacation in Maine and we stopped at Route 66 in Bar Harbor around 2pm which was a good time cause it was not busy at all. The restaurant is very spacious with a lot of seating (they have an upper level too) and there's tons of unique antique decorations as well as license plates covering the walls. We were seated right away and our server was patient and did a great job answering any questions we had. The food was amazing! My lobster roll was very "meaty" and the clam chowder was good but I would of liked more clams in it. We were all happy with our meals and it was reasonably priced. Service was friendly and we were seated right away. It was the off season so it wasn't very busy. I ordered the traditional lobster roll which came with fries and I also tried a chocolate shake. My partner got a cheeseburger and the clam chowder. I thought the lobster roll was very good and so was the clam chowder! The burger and chocolate milkshake were solid too. Overall we enjoyed our meal and were happy that we stopped in. Prices were reasonable too, even the lobster roll which was listed at market price. We arrived here for a late lunch and immediately sat at a table inside. The interior of the restaurant is super eclectic and unique, with loads of antiques decorating every square inch. However, it's a very old building so it could definitely use a bit of renovation. There were a lot of options for food and I decided on the Fried Haddock, which came with a side of fries and tartar sauce. The fish was absolutely huge! I don't think I've ever had such a large portion of fried fish before. I do wish there were a better balance of sides to even everything out. The fish also was pretty average, nothing super special in terms of taste and quality. The breading also kept flaking off which made it a bit difficult to eat. Had really high expectations for this restaurant because of how eye-catching the place was and how extensive the menu looked - but the food definitely missed the mark for us :( We ended up ordering three items to share: 1. Lobster roll - the market price when we ordered was ~$30, which honestly was one of the more affordable prices I'd seen for lobster rolls around the area. It also came with a side of fries and two choices of sauces in addition to garlic butter, so we got the "bam bam" (a bit like chipotle mayo but lighter) and lemon mayo sauces. The roll was thick and soft and the lobster tasted fresh and had a light coating of sauce. Overall, our favorite item that we tried! 2. Baked scallops: avoid at all costs!! Definitely not worth the $23 we spent!! The scallops came in a tiny box (there were probably 5 at most) and barely any crumb topping (see picture). They were tasty but literally looked like half a portion of an appetizer, instead of an entree that we had been expecting. (The picture on the online ordering site is definitely a bit misleading imo). The side of mashed potatoes were decent. 3. Seafood pizza: definitely more worth than the baked scallops, and even cheaper! For $20, you get a decently sized pie with honestly a lot of seafood, including pieces of lobster, scallop, and shrimp. I honestly wish we'd ordered another seafood pizza instead of the baked scallops item. Our only gripe was the actual cook of the pizza - there were parts where the dough was completely undercooked and missing the alfredo sauce/cheese, which was pretty tasty and paired well with the seafood. read more

This place has appetizers figured out. Ordered the buffalo cauliflower and it was DELICIOUS. The slaw with the cauliflower was so good we didn't stop talking about it the whole meal. If we visit Bar Harbor again we'll skip the entrees and each have our own buffalo cauliflower! Lobster bisque (not pictured) was also very good and was served as an app by request. Mains were good but didn't blow us away as much as the starters. The homestyle Mac could use more cheese sauce and the jackfruit tacos were a welcomed vegetarian change but only ranked a 6.5/10. Too much acid not enough sweetness (change the cabbage to the slaw and pickled onions to fresh and you have a winner). Staff were incredibly kind from the moment we met the hostess, onto our server (Tessie) and the food runner who brought out our apps! We caught them on their last night before closing for the season. A few things weren't available but there were plenty of good choices. We started with Retro Fries. Yum! On the idea of baked potato skins but cheesier. My dining partner and I got a Cobb Salad and a Caesar Salad with salmon. Both were delicious and generous The staff was all friendly and pleasant.
