Beat the heat with lunch at Route 66! It was unseasonably warm and the humidity was crazy. So we took a break from hikes with lunch at this cute Route 66 restaurant. We started with the nachos platter as we cooled down. We ordered the Cobb salad, pulled pork bbq, chicken wings and quesadillas ... a little bit of everything! But it was so good. Our waiter was amazing and took great care of us. Thanks, Jesse! And the atmosphere was so much fun. Stopped in for lunch today. The 1950's-1960's decor around the restaurant is unbelievable. There are so many cool things to look at while you dine. The menu had something for everyone. This is a fun, casual spot with Route 66 memorabilia covering nearly every surface, giving it a classic retro highway diner vibe. So many nostalgic toys, signs, various objects that we would've possibly seen in our grandparents homes. Our waitress was very cheerful and jested back and forth a little. The food is pretty good. The blueberry float is worth it. My grandparents loved the salmon and fish & chips. My niece and nephew had the chicken tenders and kids burger. That said, our server really brought the experience down. He never checked on us, we had to ask twice for a lime (never got it) and when we asked for his name, he seemed hesitant -- probably because he knows he's not providing great service. I was here almost two years ago, in June 2021, when I was in the area, and I still think about those blueberry margaritas. I had as many as I could while I was there. I wish I could buy it in jugs to have back home. You MUST try the blueberry margarita (with a sugar rim - I was given a choice for salt or sugar rim). Maine Poppables: This was my favorite dish, and I overheard another table order another round of these because they were so good! They're cheese curds served with a flavorful chunky sweet tomato sauce, and the cheese curds were so crispy without being overly oily. 2. BBQ Chicken Pizza: I was disappointed by this one, because the pizza itself was kind of small, and very doughy. There wasn't enough sauce and chicken on it. 3. Lobster Bisque: This was tasty, though there weren't a ton of lobster chunks. 4. Chicken Beet Walnut Salad: Interestingly, no dressing was served with this. I am on vacation in Maine and we stopped at Route 66 in Bar Harbor around 2pm which was a good time cause it was not busy at all. The restaurant is very spacious with a lot of seating (they have an upper level too) and there's tons of unique antique decorations as well as license plates covering the walls. We were seated right away and our server was patient and did a great job answering any questions we had. The food was amazing! My lobster roll was very "meaty" and the clam chowder was good but I would of liked more clams in it. We were all happy with our meals and it was reasonably priced. We chose Route 66 for an early dinner on a bustling Friday night in Bar Harbor. We did not have a reservation and had a group of 8 but were [gladly] seated in (2) groups of four. My other daughter enjoyed the pasta with marinara (fettuccine noodles). A lot of the comments said that the place was kind of pricey, but I'm here to tell you that the prices were 23 dollars less for a beer than down the street And other prices for things were a little bit cheaper too. I felt like this was one of the more affordable venues in comparison to the area of the places that we checked out. Front of ours got the lobster roll and it was the favorite one that he had. They have a really good blueberry wheat beer and it's only eight bucks for a pint and that's pretty great. They have a blueberry pie made with blueberry from Maine.
