    Veranda Bar

This was probably one of the best meals of my life. Definitely in the top five. Rabbit confit, incredible. Waygu beef, amazing. Scallops and red pepper polenta, unbelievable. This place was a concerto of perfection. The service was impeccable. The food amazing and the setting incomparable. Delicious wine and the best company available made this dinner a once in a lifetime event. If I ever get back to Bar Harbor, this is top of my list. And, to top it off, serenade by a live piano lounge singer! Nuts!!

Where's the rest of the dish? This is literally how this plate was served with 3 scallops and 60% empty space for $50. Yikes!

Don't get the scallops- unless you want to go home hungry. Everything else was spectacular and the view was incredible.

The food is decent, but I'm rating this a 3 for the ambiance and service. The restaurant advertises that every table is an ocean view table, which is technically accurate if you consider looking out across four other tables to be an ocean view. The table structure is strange because you're closer to the table next to you than your dining companion across from you. Not the intimate dining experience I was expecting. The service is also slow and the stretches between courses are too long. Perhaps it would be less noticeable if you were in earshot of your partner and could maintain a conversation. As far as the food, the quality of the ingredients is as expected from a restaurant of this caliber. We had the bavette and roast pork and both were delicious and well-paired. Dessert stole the show with a chocolate meringue with orange cream and cogniac ice cream. We'll likely try other places in the harbor before coming back, but won't take it off the list completely.

Excellent service. Food was beautiful and menu offer the right variety without too much. The atmosphere of the restaurant is very chic without being stuffy. Staff was very friendly and helpful.

I don't think there's a place in the world like the Veranda. We sat outside overlooking a beautifully landscaped pool and garden that met with the ocean and reflected spectacular sunset colors. It was like having dinner in East Egg with The Buchanans. The unique menu had us wanting to try one of everything! Each dish and its perfectly matched ingredients were so special and full of flavors that complimented each other. The craft cocktails were artistic with deliciously bold tastes. We had to try them all! The kind staff completed the luxurious feel of the atmosphere and were so attentive. Their gentle hospitality was the warm blanket for a calm and cozy dinner outing that had us smiling all the way home. We can't wait to return!

We had dinner here last night and it was simply amazing!! Definitely a higher end experience but absolutely delicious! We had the risotto and the scallops - both were spot on and simply fantastic!! Oh and the orange chocolate cookie meringue was absolutely decadent. I would highly recommend giving this place a try if you are looking for a fine dining experience.

We went here for a special anniversary dinner with friends and had a lovely time, though there were some misses which is unfortunate given the very high price tag. The restaurant is set in a very elegant inn right on the Shore Path that feels expensive and exclusive. There are tables on the porch with a gorgeous view as well as some tables inside in very nice space and some view was well. The cloverleaf dinner rolls with smoked seaweed butter were absolutely amazing. And the cocktails were both visually stunning and delicious. The food was hit or miss. My quail was tasty but lacked the crispy exterior. The caviar service was impressive with gorgeous handmade chips and crème fresh topped with edible gold leaf. However, the beet blinis tasted a little cardboard like. Mushroom truffle risotto was nice. Swordfish and Brussels sprouts were excellent. Duck was fine but small. Banana creme brûlée and mango white chocolate mousse were really mediocre and coffee was very potent. Also disappointing was the failure to acknowledge that one of our guests is a vegetarian. The hostess noted it on the reservation but then my friend was presented with an amuse bouche with duck. When we reminded them they didn't offer any substitute (an additional roll would have been nice). I do note that there was a beautiful cozy bar next to the dining room with a piano player and singer who was great. Travelers with disabilities should note that there is no accessible parking for the restaurant. All of the parking is for hotel guests only. There was one non-compliant accessible parking space (no access aisle and improper signage) which we were unceremoniously asked to vacate (even though we have a parking placard) because they were holding it for the owners who were staying at the hotel. (They later showed up with their Rolls Royce). I wonder if they would have booted a hotel guest with a placard? We were directed to the public parking lot on the other side of the fence with the gate to the restaurant parking area. However the accessible parking space in that lot was not located close to the gate and there is no accessible route from that public parking through the gate to the front door. Not the best beginning evening.

This was the best meal I had in Maine, and one of the best meals in my life. I am worried that many people will miss this place since it lies at the end of a secluded side street at the end of a main road, so unless you want to go here on purpose, you will not see it from the street and could easily go about your business never knowing its existence. I found this place by searching for 'romantic restaurants' while doing my vacation research, since this was going to be my one nice date night with my husband while we had a babysitter on vacation, and I am so glad we chose this place. I have never had a tasting menu- but it's been on my bucket list for a long time. The menu, or Guidebook as they call it, is filled with small one line poems, riddles, and puns. I had a great time thinking about what would be on the next plate, and talked with our lovely server about this. We ordered some wine, but the server couldn't find it anywhere in the restaurant. We ordered a different bottle but she gave it to us for the price of the original one we requested- which was very nice of her. The presentation of each dish was breathtaking. Each choice of plate and bowl were carefully thought out. We had venison, scallops, prawns, truffles, duck, caviar, ice cream, and more. One after the other, more gorgeous and more complex. The decor of the restaurant was thoughtful and upscale but not intimidating. The bathroom was underneath the stairs- which sounds silly but was beautiful and roomy, with a gold duck faucet! Out back there is a fire pit that you can enjoy, with blankets if you get chilly. We sat out there with our coffee and met and spoke with some other vacationers and had a lovely time. The place manages to be very high end but not uninviting. It remains refined but not off-putting, which a lot of nicer places can be. You don't get the imposter feeling dining here, but you do feel super pampered. I wish this place was close so I could visit again, and I wish I had enjoyed the bar on another night. Next time I am in Maine I will definitely be staying here!

Cannot say enough good things about the tasting menu at Veranda Bar. If you stay at the Balance Rock Inn, your steps away from this supreme restaurant. Seating allows for uninterrupted views of the ocean as well. The tasting menu was presented as a "Guidebook" but didn't exactly say what each dish was. It was fun to guess as each course arrived. There was a good balance of flavors in every course and I was left extremely satisfied. I also got the optional wine pairing which included considerable pours for each course. There was a coffee Panna cotta on the menu that I regret not also getting. There's always a next time!

I had the Mediterranean Mezzo for my meal and if you'd like it gluten free you can ask for extra cucumbers instead of the pita bread. The waiter was nice enough to bring me the cucumbers after he brought out the dish as there was an abundance of pitas in comparison to the rest of the items. They give you 3 dips which were all delicious. Tzatziki, olive dip and a Muhammara which is a red pepper dip. We then got the Oysters Rockafeller to split. Lots of tobiko. Heavy sausage flavor. I would probably skip those next time. I will say regarding drinks, they have a beautiful cocktail list but my stomach wasn't feeling great so instead of a normal spicy margarita or something similar, I asked for a dirty martini and it came out with a funky flavor. Most likely too much vermouth. The poor waiter took at least ten minutes before returning with a new martini without vermouth. He or the bartender clearly did not know how to make this. If I returned to the area I'd definitely return for a funky cocktail and something a little more adventurous on the menu.

Our waiter told us he didn't know where lobsters came from until he recently moved here. lol For an appetizer, we shared the Crab & Appetizer Dip. It was delicious!!! This spot is cozy and quaint and full of friendly local staff members. It was Kentucky Derby day and a lot of folks we were watching it as we walked in, ambiance was jovial and loud. Greeted immediately by the hostess and bartender and waited a short while for a table to open up. I ordered the chicken sandwich and my husband ordered the Reuben. He is Jewish and loves Reubens, gets them all the time. He said this one was really, really good. Great texture to the meat. Now, my Chicken Sandwich - was the best I've ever had in my life. I told my husband, I will be holding any and all future chicken sandwiches up to this one as the benchmark. The breaded chicken breast was huge and delicious quality white meat. It was dipped in buffalo sauce, and had fresh slaw, pickles, tomato and blue cheese sauce. It was DECADENT and it really hit the spot for me after a long day. I could not stop eating it. YUMMMM. Oh, we also ordered the pub fries - loaded with aioli and cheese and greens. Fries were delish but a bit too much aioli for our taste. Still, wonderful! Huge portion. Overall, food was yummy, out quickly, service was great and we loved the vibes. Easily a fav for us on this trip and we'll be looking forward to coming back again some day!

My Shepherd's Pie was hearty and flavorful, especially paired with Leary's salad for a lighter balance. Meanwhile, my husband continued his personal mission to try lobster bisque at every restaurant in Maine -- and Leary's version earned solid marks as a runner-up on his bisque leaderboard. Rich, creamy, and satisfying, just shy of the gold medal. To keep it Irish, I finished with a Black & Tan -- a bit darker than my preferred Newcastle-and-Guinness blend, but still a fine way to toast the evening. Bottom line: Leary's Landing is a solid pub for hearty comfort food, good drinks, and prime people-watching. Service could use a smile or two, but the vibe -- and that bisque -- make it worth the stop.
