Saturday, July 2025: My husband and I traveled from Wisconsin to Maine and wanted an authentic lobster experience on the water. We liked the outdoor dining setting at The Terrace Grille so opted to have lunch there outside. We went there at 1PM on a Saturday and were seated right away. We didn't get a table right next to the edge but we could see the water perfectly from our seats. Our waiter was very friendly but he, and most of the staff, were transplants. Our waiter told us he didn't know where lobsters came from until he recently moved here. lol For an appetizer, we shared the Crab & Appetizer Dip. It was delicious!!! Definitely not healthy but we didn't care, we ate most of it. Tip: eat it while it's hot! It's definitely not good cold. For lunch, I had the Bar Harbor Lobster Cobb salad and my husband had the Steamed Maine Lobster. My salad was amazing! The lobster was fresh, tender, and overall the flavors of the salad went well together with the honey citrus dressing. My husband wasn't crazy about his lobster, he said the meal was acceptable but the lobster was overcooked. read more

We had a great experience here! They don't accept reservations, only walk ups, but we had no issues getting a table. The outdoor seating area is GORGEOUS with great water views of Frenchman Bay and Bar Harbor. We ordered a bowl of NE Clam Chowder, Lobster Bruschetta, Lobster Chef Salad, and the Haddock. Everything was superb! What the chowder lacked in salt it more than made up for in deep, rich clam flavor! The haddock was also divine! A great experience for sure! read more

Back again with a visitor from GA, and the Grille didn't disappoint! The patio was crowded and we were seated at a 6 top, even though there were just 2 of us. Loved the attention to getting us seated. We had said we would share our table if they needed it. Beautiful day and gorgeous view on a Monday at lunch. Becca was our server and she is fabulous--attentive and genuine interest in if we liked our food! We split the burger and the haddock sandwich with fresh fruit and chips. Was surprised to say I would come back for the burger (it was great)~ I'm already a fan of the haddock sandwich. Next time we would ask for more aioli sauce for the haddock. The chips were just chips, recommend spending your calories on something else. We left them on the table and had ice cream later! It's my go to spot for lunch with out of town guests! read more

This was AMAZING! Loved the view from the terrace and it was a perfect vibe. We all enjoyed our meals soo much. It was perfectly made and portions were big. The wait can be a bit long when busy but you can walk around in the meantime. The drinks were so great as well! Service was pretty quick once we were seated! Amazing!!! When we decided to go here on a date, I imagined the atmosphere to be the highlight and the food to be average, but I was wrong. Both were excellent! I had the local haddock and my husband had salmon. Both were great but the haddock was the favorite! Sitting by the water made it feel like vacation and set the tone for a relaxing and romantic evening. They don't take reservations and we were told it would be a 45 minute wait, but we were seated in about 30. After ordering, the food came quickly. It took a bit to find because it's actually part of the Bar Harbor Inn. The ambiance is ON POINT! Beautiful tables overlooking the water, lots of flowers blooming on the walk. I like that they offer mocktails, I got the blueberry mojito one, which was good. I ordered the veggie pasta, I'm not sure if the pasta was cooked the full way because it was still a little tough - it could be because it was the second plate they brought out because the first had seafood in it. It was still pretty good. Came back another day to get the blueberry bread pudding and it was pretty tasty, but wish it had more blueberries. read more

The view is top notch. Anyone can see that when they arrive. Reception desk personnel at this restaurant are very personable and attentive. Food is EXCELLENT. I recommend the blueberry bread pudding with ice cream for dessert. We sat in the outside patio area, that is just below the hotel, and we couldn't have asked for anything better for our quick stop in Bar Harbor. What a history the hotel has. Loved the food! Lobster bisque and clam chowder were great. The Bar Harbor blueberry ale was delicious! Husband raved about the shrimp and haddock grits with creole sauce. I enjoyed the artichoke and crab dip as my main dish. Staff was kind with us and our toddler. View was perfect. Beware despite saying they don't take reservations and is first come first serve, the hostess was seating hotel guests first. Asked the hostess about it, she says it is first come first serve except when there is a wait and then they seat hotel guests first. The hostess had this weird smug smile explaining how this was first come first serve. So weird. Put up honest signage and clean up the website if that is their policy and do something about this strange condescending hostess. Looks nice enough, I had even planned to come back and stay at the hotel at some point but probably not going back for a long time. read more

Staying at the Bar Harbor Inn we decided to try the Terrace Grille for lunch. People begin to lineup as early as an hour before it opens. I guess the thing that bothered me about that was that there was no semblance of order or who should go first. That is, no line. The hostess would not make eye contact with anyone or speak to anyone until it opened. As a guest of the hotel we had a VIP priority seating pass but there was no instructions or facilitation by the hostess on how to even use it. Why not take names or numbers or something? Or why not ask if anyone is a guest of the hotel to please come forward to be seated prior to letting anyone else in? Seems simple to me. Once seated, our waitress was great. She was friendly, had a great sense of humor, helpful, and attentive. All the tables on the patio have a great view of the harbor. We had the clam chowder (not bad), Lobster Roll ($28), and the Black Tuscan Kale & Burrata salad with chicken ($23). The lobster in the lobster roll was actually pretty bland and tasted watery as if it was previously frozen. Not sure about that, just an opinion. I wouldn't order it again. The salad was very good, but just had too much dressing applied. It would've been better on the side. read more

The Terrace Grill is the trifecta of Bar Harbor! It is by far the prettiest place with yellow umbrellas, lining the harbor!! The service was excellent, we had a local gal, and our food was top-notch. To be honest after eating at some other establishments, I wish we'd eaten here twice! You don't always wanna spend $18 on a glass of wine, but this atmosphere delivered in every way: food, service, and ambience! TG will be my top recommendation for BH by far! Thank you! read more

If you can get past the very rude hostess on the patio it's a fabulous place. A lovely patio with excellent food but again the young lady working the hostess stand on the patio July 28 at 7pm was so condescending and rude. Not necessary we are all under pressure. read more

We sat outside for lunch, nice atmosphere. The server was great, and the food was excellent.

Service was okay, not overly attentive, but not ignored where we had to ask for help. The hostess went to seat us at a backside table when there were several tables on the waterfront. We asked for waterfront, and she accommodated. The view was almost 180 degrees water. So enjoyable and calming. The food was outstanding. I had the mussels & clams appetizer (unusually large portion). The grilled bread and sauce with it were divine! I also had the haddock as my entree. It was flavorful and cooked perfectly. read more

Not only did this restaurant have a great view but the food was delicious! We had the lobster bake and hamburger. The lobster was perfectly cooked and the clams and mussels were delectable. You get a large portion of food with this entree. We opted for the corn chowder vs the clam chowder and unlike the other restaurants in the area it did not taste bland or taste like it came from a can. It was very flavorful and a nice change from the standard typical New England chowders served in this area. The burger was nice and juicy and probably the best one I've had in Bar Harbor. The service was okay and I think this was due to having limited wait staff like every other restaurant in the area as well as seeing how many people were sitting in the restaurant. They probably could provide better service if they didn't pack the restaurant with such limited staff. Every table was full and I counted one busser and three waiters. read more

I had low expectations, but this was actually a gem of a dining experience. The view, of course, is wonderful, and you can see the harbor with big boats right there. But, the food was actually delicious, with more lobster in my salad than most lobster rolls, with the meat well cooked and not over buttered. This place is located on the outdoor patio of the gorgeous Bar Harbor Inn. The views can NOT be beat or matched at any place we dined while in town. Our server, Richard, was prompt & friendly and while chatting we found out it was his 19th year working there, a sign that he is an outstanding employee and he does everything by memory. We were glad to have him as our server. My fiancee ordered the grilled turkey & havarti sandwich which was excellent. The turkey was nice and smoky and she enjoyed it. I got the lobster roll with primavera pasta salad on the side and it was very good and "affordably" priced at $24, somehow lower than a lot of other places downtown that offer zero view. We had a couple beers as well, they have a good selection. We can't wait to return next time we are in town! read more

Was walk up, not staying at this hotel, waited about 30min for dinner. Nice waiter, great views but even better food. Seriously the haddock I ate is in now in my top 10 fish dinners to date. All who had it raved about it. Lobster roll had good quantity of lobster. Short ribs also good for those who don't like seafood. Come for the view, stay for the good food. The restaurant is located first line to the water: there is absolutely nothing blocking the view. It is beyond gorgeous. On top of that, the food is delicious and high quality. If you're willing to pay a bit more this is a place worth checking out. The service was a bit slow and not particularly friendly ... but it's 2022. I forgot which chardonnay I ordered but it was delicious. Since it was my first full day in Maine I ordered the clam chowder. Based on my bowl of chowder I cannot recommend it. The taste was lacking. My husband had the shrimp caesar salad and it was absolutely delicious. The taste and the amount of dressing was perfect. The romaine was fresh and crisp.
