We were staying in an Airbnb that was very close to this restaurant. We had driven, walked and biked by it multiple times during our stay, so we decided to give it a try on our last morning in town. Even if the food was horrendous (which it was not), this place is worth going to for its spectacular views of Bar Harbor. We sat outside on the deck on a gorgeous summer morning and loved the atmosphere. I tried to order The Cadillac, but was disappointed to learn that they were out of smoked salmon, which also eliminated my backup plans. I ended up ordering the French Toast, which was fine, but nothing spectacular. My wife at the oatmeal and a toasted blueberry muffin which she really liked. My daughters had the Chocolate Chip Pancakes and the Out The Dorr Breakfast Sandwich and said that they enjoyed them, Did I mention that the view is spectacular? read more

Th is pace was next to our hotel so we went here for breakfast. It is only open for breakfast till 11. You could have breakfast cocktails (we didn't) our food was great. I recommend the breakfast skillet (I added an egg) the veggies were delicious . The service was attentive and kept refilling the coffee. I often find that whenever I go against what the Yelp community recommends I am disappointed. The absolute only good thing I can say about this place is the ravishing view. The food took an hour to arrive with one dish taking an impressive hour and 15 minutes. When it did finally arrive, my dish had to be returned because a not very delicious sauce was spread all over it despite my request to put it on the side. Pancakes also arrived burnt and barely edible. However, I must mention that our waitress did her best to alleviate the situation and remade the dish with no problems. Ultimately this spot was a HUGE disappointment - a waste of great views. The food is unappetizing and definitely not worth the wait. Skip this place and go to a different location. read more

It has nice view... but that's it. Make sure you wipe your table with wet tissue. You will see your tissue turning black. I doubt they clean the table at all. I ordered egg benedict with lobster, bar harbor breakfast with lobster, apple juice, and cranberry juice. It was $69, and paid a tip upfront. Server served us food, and i never saw him after. Everything else is self-serving. I don't know what that 15% tip was for. It's plastic utensils and paper plate, so they don't need extra water and labor to clean.. just clean the table at least.. So food.. You can see in the photo how much lobster they gave me. Without lobster it was supposed to be $13, and they charged me double for that lobster. Okay fine.. it's a restaurant, not a fish market.. but it was fishy and dry. Not worth a penny. Egg benedict is supposed to be with poached eggs with runny yolk. But no.. it's just almost full cooked- but generously to say- half cooked egg. Maybe go there for coffee and take some cute pictures cuz it does have nice view and the light makes everything look pretty. But don't go here for food. If you do, just don't order lobster. read more

The Looking Glass is the main restaurant that serves the Bluenose Inn and surrounding sister hotels. Due to COVID-19, they eliminated their dinner service (probably a smart idea anyways) and only serve breakfast from 7-11am. This is almost a self-service type of restaurant as you place your order at a bar and you are served food once ready. Honestly, that's probably all we needed at the time. If we're trying to start our hikes in the morning, we're not trying to spend a lot of time eating breakfast. The no-frills part of the experience is irrelevant, but we did enjoy the scenic views as we ate our eggs in the morning. The food was filling, which is all we cared about. Filling to the extent we barely finished it altogether, yet served us well when going around the park. The place served its purpose, even if unspectactular. read more

If I could place a negative on this review... The only good thing about it is you get a great view and a front seat to their window, coz nobody else but us losers go there. We felt like holding a big L on our forehead. Special was biscuits and gravy, and if you need a fork and a knife to slice these biscuits, that was our sign. We ordered toast too, and it was burnt. This was such a cute little breakfast place post a sunrise hike to Cadillac Mt! Just a short distance from the mountain. The staff was incredibly friendly, views were lovely and they have completely changed the way I will be eating a muffin... only sliced and grilled from now on! This was legitimately our best and favorite meal of our trip to bar harbor. On our Tuesday night visit there were half price bottles of wine and we were able to use the yelp 10 percent off our meal as well (great pros to visiting here!). The wine choices were great and we chose a bottle of Josh. From our experience, I would go ahead and give it a try since you might be surprised too! The mussels appetizer was unique and delicious. Every bite was flavorful (sausage in a mussels sauce yes please!). The lobster Mac and cheese dish had literally a whole lobster in it. Being from buffalo, I've never seen so much lobster in a Mac and cheese and I was pumped! The truffle cheese sauce made it extra delicious. I even had enough for leftovers which made a great lunch the next day. The gnocchi lobster carbonara was another interesting but amazing meal. We loved our meals, the sunset view from the deck, and the service here. Only tip would be to not walk here since it's very uphill to reach the restaurant! read more

Great food. Good service! Beautiful view of Bar Harbor... we were able to see the sand bar that we had just walked across to Bar Island earlier that afternoon! The kids loved seeing that perspective! There was just enough parking. Sunset dinner was great & I personally loved their outdoor fire pit. Unfortunately, they refused to put up their umbrella to keep sun out of the eyes of a few of our guests since they had "3 try to blow away already earlier that evening" but they did for another table an hour after we asked. Stir fried lobster was good but the brown rice cause me some GI issues hours later. Excellent crab dip. Baked Brie was stingy w/ a bit too many tomatoes. Good scallops. Kid friendly staff but kids got bored at standard times. Overall, we had a good experience! read more

This place hugely disappointed. We came in as a big group and we're seated next to a fabulous view, right after we were asked for our orders and each of us knew what we were taking. Some of the dishes can fast but my friends dish of two eggs took longer than an hour! Everybody got their food while my friend has to sit watching every single person have their food. Not only did they forgot the dish but they got my sisters dish wrong and put sauce that she specifically asked to be on the side in the eggs. My sisters pancakes came burnt and almost not edible to eat, and all of my friends pancakes were like that too, they were crispy and definitely not like how pancakes should be. This experience was very disappointing and not appetizing if you talk about the food. Although the waiter did her best to help us I would not recommend coming here. read more

After staying in Bar Harbor for years (even at Wonder View as a kid) I'd never been to the Looking Glass. We were looking for a laid back evening away from the downtown area and we had an excellent time at the Looking Glass. I didn't make reservations ahead of time but we showed up at 7pm and got a table right by the windows, overlooking that beautiful view. Our waiter was very kind and courteous. We each had a blueberry martini and shared the brie appetizer with tomatoes and bruschetta. The brie was baked with the yellow tomatoes, just enough that it had a hint of tomato but not too much that it was overpowering. For dinner I decided to get the lobster gnocchi and my husband got the Filet Mignon. We weren't too crazy about our entrees (if this was based on the entrees only, it would be 3 stars) BUT the saving grace was my gnocchi did have a decent amount of lobster in it (you imagine it would for $35....). The filet mignon was medium well not medium, but a good cut of steak. My gripe with the gnocchi was that it wasn't traditional - the pasta was made like little cavatelli shapes, not the traditional pillow. The sauce was also on the heavy side and the bacon diluted some of the fresh flavors that you want with the lobster and the gnocchi (if made right). It was all worth it for the view but the entrees could use a fresh-er (literally) reboot. I heard from our innkeepers that this was the hip spot back in the 70's and with that architecture I can see why! I would go back. read more

Worst service ever. Actually, there is NO service. Absolutely no waitstaff. You order your meal and pay at the same time, while standing in a line, 30 people deep. The only waitstaff is a kid that cleans the tables and brings over your food. I understand covid regulations right now, but this place was absolutely horrible at trying to reduce people. EVERYONE stood in line together, probably 30+ waiting inside for either a table, to order or pay. Its basically a serve yourself right now. I wish there was a ten star rating. We stayed at the Wonder View Inn and somehow got lucky enough to be in the block of rooms right next to The Looking Glass. We were in Bar Harbor three days and ate here twice. It would have been three but we had a 6 am half marathon that Saturday. The blueberry pancakes absolutely live up to the hype. And the cook sure knows how to make some crispy bacon. They open at 7 am and I would recommend getting there as close to that as you can so you can get your choice of seating. The whole building is a hexagon shape with floor to ceiling windows facing the harbor, so the views are gorgeous. read more

Good breakfast, fantastic view. I might not have known about this place if we had not been staying at the adjacent Wonder View Inn. It has not received as much Yelp love as most places downtown, but it deserves to. The interior is all warm wood, and the 270-degree views through the floor-to-ceiling windows really invigorate the start of one's day. I had to wear my sunglasses for part of the meal, and I felt like the king of the world. The staff were all nice, adding to the charm of the place. One of the waitresses came out of the kitchen with a Post-It reading "Please don't tip me!!!" stuck to her back. My wife and I got a hoot out of that, and a few minutes later we heard the staff in the back having their well-earned laugh as well. They know how to cook a proper breakfast too: eggs done hard, home fries nice and crisp, and english muffin toasted to medium brown. I hate it when my food comes out undercooked because the kitchen is in a rush to churn through a crowd. I had the Maine coast omelette, with lobster, red bell peppers, onions, and smoked gouda; it was outstanding, if perhaps a bit greasy from being fried in butter. But a small complaint like that is a tiny tradeoff for an overall delicious breakfast and a stunning bay view to kick off a wonderful day on Mt Desert Island. read more

When you step into the main dining area, all you can do is gasp at the beautiful nearly 300 degrees of the view. The walls of somewhat octagon shaped restaurant is ceiling to floor glass. And since it's atop a little hill, you get to see the view all the way down to the bay. As for the food, it was reasonably priced and hey were excellent. The Asparagus Strudel was light, flavorful and juicy. And the Spicy Maine Crab Cakes was the best I've had in years! The Vegetarian Wild Mushroom Crêpes just topped it all. I was full without dessert. As with most restaurants, the only thing I missed was a nice mixed non-alcoholic beverage. Since I CANNOT drink (not by choice) I miss the chance to sip something adult looking and refreshing at the same time. Coke and Sprite doesn't quite cut it.
