I can't believe I haven't reviewed my favorite breakfast spot. I try and go do different places for breakfast, this is my go to breakfast. Last weekend I got the 2 fish and hot meat with eggs, hash browns and toast for something like $14.00 Some people go "fish for breakfast" ! It's so good . You get a salmon cake , and a nice piece of white fish ( not sure what kind ) cod ? The fish covers the plate . Eggs are cooked perfect, hash browns and I got raisin toast . Service is always friendly, my coffee is always full . My girl friend got the sausage omelet , she also said it was great . read more

The atmosphere is awesome! It's your typical diner look and feel! The restaurant was spotless! My waitress was nice friendly and personable! I had the breakfast two scrambled eggs home fries and kielbasa the food was hot fresh and delicious! The only complaint I have was the portions. I'm a big guy and I like my food plentiful. If you're normal sized and eat normally you will enjoy the portions! Definitely worth a stop in for breakfast! read more

The food is pretty appetizing. I d always eaten the breakfast meals, eggs, bacon, home fries, French toast. Pretty tasty. There aren't many diners in the area so this is like the go to if you are tired of ihop. The wait staff is pleasant enough and attentive. It looks just like a traditional diner. Seating is kind of tight. You can play the jukebox in each booth if you have a couple of quarters. They open very early and they close very early so I'd recommend that you call before you go so you know if they're open. read more

The Route 66 Diner is a classic and old school looking diner (opened in 1985) serving breakfast and lunch, which is located along Bay Street in Springfield, MA. The cozy diner car houses a long lunch counter with stool seating and 6 booths along the front windows. There are old black & white pictures on the wall of Motown artists and a small old jukebox with old buttons at each table. The kitchen area portion is attached to the diner. As for the food, the Route 66 Diner serves the typical American diner fare for breakfast and lunch including 3 egg omelet specials, steak & eggs, salmon & eggs, pancakes, Texas toast, Belgian waffles, hash, sandwiches, melts, burgers, long dogs, and comfort dishes/platters (steaks, fried seafood, liver, meatloaf, pork chops). Specials are offered. The prices are reasonable, most items are priced under $10 and a few over $10 including ribeye steak and fried seafood dinners. I stopped in here recently for Sunday breakfast around 1PM, after the crowds had dissipated. Only the breakfast menu is served on Sundays. I was offered coffee as I took a seat. The coffee ($1.50) was a slightly on the weaker side. I looked through the song selections of the small jukebox (turning the knob) at my table consisting of mostly oldies and R&B hits from yesteryear to a few years old including several hits from Elvis Presley, Michael Jackson, Alicia Keys, and Mario, just to name a few. I spotted the Afroman classic "Because I Got High" which a few of my crew used to "pump the bass right up" to in their rides from back in the day (early 2000s). I was about to insert a quarter into the jukebox, but the food was served quickly and the customers in the next booth began jammin' to Alicia Keys' hit "If I Ain't Got You." For breakfast, I ordered the Country Fried Steak Combo Special ($7.50) served with 2 eggs, homefries, and toast, which was a decent portion of food. The country fried steak was deep fried with a crunchy coating on the outside and tender inside and topped with a hearty brown beef gravy. The firm scrambled eggs (with yellows/whites) was decent. The grilled homefries were soft and seasoned. The toast was buttered already. Overall, the food was pretty decent and standard breakfast fare, the check was $9.63 with tax and before tip. The service was good, and I was offered and given refills on the coffee, even when I was finished eating. What a great find while in the Springfield area. Sat right at the counter right in front of chef window and the working jukebox. Lots for friendly chatter all around. Definitely some regulars which is always a great reason to be optimistic about the food. My partner got the corn beef hash and eggs. I got the egg special with the cheese. Waitresses were all very pleasant. And the chef made sure that I knew it was a spicy cheese. Both meals were plentiful and delicious. Definitely will be back next time in area. read more

The food was ok but I had to race to the bathroom as soon as I gotten home it started at the restaurant. The fish and grits is what I ordered and coffee along with water. The food was ok however the grits wasnt seasoned . But for just that to tear up my my stomach is a big no no. read more

This place was great, you dont find those nice rustic classic diners anymore. Entering was exactly what i expected typical diner from the movies it was almost a dream! We loved that the little jukeboxes on the tables actually work, and have some newer songs in them:) Very cool. Food was decent. Limited hours means you're either getting breakfast or lunch. This time, we went for breakfast. Gone was the noxious odor of ammonia. Instead, we were greeted with the quintessential diner smell: yummy greasy breakfast food. The place was packed. People were waiting at the barstools for an open booth. We were lucky enough to get seated at a booth, which I'd definitely recommend. I remembered to bring along a few quarters, and we spent our breakfast time listening to old classics and new favorites on the table-top jukebox. We even got a couple free plays! Our waitress was a tad on the "whaddya want" side of personalities, but effective in her job, nonetheless. After skimming their overwhelming breakfast menu-- so many enticing options!-- we both decided on the "Eggs Irish": english muffin topped with corned beef hash, a poached egg and "cheese" ("cheese" sauce). The eggs were perfect poached, the corned beef hash slightly crispy (just the way I like it) and the whole dish was, in a word, delish. In two other words, comfort food. The place is a little rough-around-the-edges. Most of the patrons here would sooner talk sh*t with the chef and playfully hassle the waitress than eat their breakfast. But don't let that dissuade you. It's genuine. These regulars really love this place: all of it, from the Eggs Irish to the sassy waitress to the cook they've known since Pee-Wees. First stop at the Route 66 Diner, not real inspiring. Started with a cup of the Cheeseburger Chowder. Tasty for sure, but not real appealing to the eye. Small pool of orange colored oil floating atop. Not exactly what I would call chowder either. More like hamburg mac n cheese. Would have preferred cream and potatoes over elbow macaroni. Again, tasty, but not what I was hoping for. Tuna melt for lunch. Ordered on rye with cheese and tomato. Spot on for what I would expect from a diner. Nice grill on the rye bread. Perfect amount of tuna. Well done. Onion rings on the side were also a big disappointment. In my mind diners should be making hand made onion rings. These were highly processed, frozen bag, dropped into grease onion rings. Instead of an actual ring of onion, the onion inside the batter was fully chopped. Processed onion rings like this is simply taking the easy way out, and unfortunately for the diner, probably even a more expensive less profitable route. Would I go back - sure. Rush back - not so much. I do want to head back and try some breakfast. High hopes. read more

Let me start with we asked our "server" how her breakfast was. She never asked us, just came back with the check. Ours was snotty eggs medium & even snottier eggs over easy. No refill on the coffee. Warm bread for toast. Only positive was grits were surprisingly good, for this far north & the rest of the food. Regulars looked like they were treated well. The people that work there are what you might expect from an older diner atmosphere, which is real people who treat you like another person. That doesn't mean the service is good, it's just ok. We have made this resturaunt our new Sunday breakfast spot. We use to go to Little Georges in Westfield but have been disappointed in that place lately. With Rt 66 you will always be seated quickly and the food is almost always on the table before the first song is done playing on the cool old juke boxes that are at ever table. The Tables and Restrooms are always very clean and the waitresses are very friendly and give service with a smile even when they are packed. Would recommend to anyone.The food has always been great. In about 15 trips my order was wrong once and they let me keep both meals. Most places wont do that they take the old food back. Were actually packing up the family to head out there in about an hour for another wonderful meal. read more

On a recommendation of a friend we decided to try this place for breakfast on a Sunday morning. It wasn't too busy when we went and found a booth right away. The Menu looked appetizing with decent prices. I ordered the home fries supreme and my wife the blueberry pancakes. It has the look of a 50's diner, but I'm not sure of its age. Waitress was an older lady that in which you cannot tell if she's really being nice or actually hates you. The food came out relatively quick. I was immediately put off by the big slice of melted "cheddar" cheese on top. It was obviously cheap fake processed crap and looked like cheese wiz. I still dug in to find pieces of burnt grill scrapings and weirdly sliced breakfast sausages that looked like the hotdogs you find in a can of beans and wieners. My wife's blueberry pancakes consisted of not real blueberries, but of a syrupy sweet blueberry pie filling type stuff. We were both grossed out. Sure it might be nostalgic and full of locals, but it's just gross. The quality of ingredients is extremely low. I could almost feel myself getting more and more unhealthy with every bite. Our waitress never came back to our table for at least 30 minutes and we had to get up and pay up front. Maybe she was mean and was ignoring us, who knows? The home fries were real good and the bacon, although dripping in grease, was real crispy. The verdict, two stars, which seems fitting. read more
