FIFTIES DINER We have been going to the Fifties Diner for many years and have always enjoyed it, but today's breakfast was the best we've ever had. I ordered the Fifties Diner Special, which came with 2 eggs, sausage, bacon, home fries, rye toast, and two pancakes. Everything was excellent. The home fries arrived hot, the eggs were cooked perfectly over easy, the bacon was crisp, and the sausages were large and flavorful. The rye toast was already buttered, which was a nice touch. The pancakes were especially impressive--fluffy, moist, and served with four soft butter pats and plenty of syrup. The coffee was served in the classic old-fashioned white restaurant mugs, which added to the diner's nostalgic charm. My wife ordered the meat omelet, and it did not disappoint. It was huge, packed with meat, hot, cheesy, and cooked perfectly. The food, service, and overall experience were outstanding. After many years of visiting, this was easily our favorite meal at the Fifties Diner. read more

The diner itself is super cute. Soda was poured from warm 2 liters on the counter @2.99 a drink Mozzarella sticks were barely warmed through so the cheese was all still hard. I ordered chicken tenders and fries... paper thin tenders over cooked. The fries were good. My fiancé ordered a Ruben. The meat was grilled before going on the sandwich and was extremely rubbery and lacked all flavor. What worse was the service.. waited 15 plus minutes to order our drinks and our food. It all came out at the same time.. drinks, appetizer and dinner. Our waitress never checked back for refills or even to see how food was. She was talking on her phone instead of helping her customers. Overall I'd say McDonald's across the street will give you better for and service. read more

We stopped into Fifties Diner after site seeing all day because we were hungry and it was right off the Pike. It's cute inside with all the 50s stuff, red booths and jukeboxes, but it also feels a little worn and it was pretty loud in there. Food was just okay. I got blueberry pancakes and they were fine, a little dry around the edges. Rick had a burger and said it was fine.. Amy got French toast with eggs and bacon and said it was okay. Kevin had an omelette and potatoes and said it was just alright. Service was friendly enough but we waited a bit for coffee refills and the food took longer than I expected for a diner. I wasn't disappointed exactly, but it didn't really stand out either. It's fine if you're right there and hungry but we probably wouldn't go out of our way to stop again. read more

I enjoyed coming here on the regular pre-covid. Not a place I think about coming to these days but still enjoy a good cake and eggs with fast service. Hungry and was in the area so stopped in for my fill. Got the cake and eggs but with corned beef hash for a change and everything was as good as the last time I was in. Worth the stop if in the area. They allow pets inside the restaurant and the staff touches them which makes my confidence in their cleanliness lessen. Also, after careful investigation and back tracking I'm sorry to report one person in our party got food poisoning from eating here for breakfast. read more

Food and service is always great. The day cook on Saturday makes a great omelette and he actually knows how to cook a side of broccoli the right way. Vibrant green and not mushy or rubbery like a lot of places. Prices are reasonable too. Get the 50s Diner Omelette, it's huge. read more

Perfect spot right off the Mass Pike but not a place i could honestly recommend. Waitress was very pleasant but felt bad for her since she had the whole restaurant herself. Food was just ok. Completely blew away my expectations. I usually don't expect much of roadside highway diners, but I had a very pleasant time here. The waitress at the front was really kind and talkative, the coffee was really good, and the pot roast was great. The cooks really know what they are doing. Decent little breakfast place, threw me off at first because its located in a Pride gas station, but once you get inside it just feels like a regular small diner. The food was prepared well and seemed decent quality but upset our stomachs afterwards. I'm open to going back to see if that was a fluke at some point but we haven't yet. Last night was the very first time my family and I came to this diner. We walked in and was greeted by Jamie. We got to sit anywhere we wanted too as long as it was on the left side of the diner because the right side was closed. We were given the menus and asked what we were drinking? I had fruit punch and so did my son. My husband had a glass of water and cup of coffee. When we got our drinks, my husband had one piece of ice in his water and the coffee was ice cold. I requested for ice and a hot cup of coffee for my husband. Next, we put in our order for dinner. My husband wanted to eat breakfast since they cook breakfast 24 hours in the restaurant. He ordered the "Irish Breakfast." It consist of corn beef hash, home potatoes eggs and toast. He ordered a side of grits. They were lumpy, but was decent. My son had a bacon cheese burger and fries. I have been wanting baked spaghetti all week, so I ordered the regular spaghetti with meatballs. We received the food and it looked delicious. Once we start eating it, it was good. We said grace and ate. My spaghetti needed more sauce, so I asked the waitress for more. My son was satisfied with his well done cheese burger. He didn't really eat his French fries. He said they were ok, not the best. My husband enjoyed his dinner as well. He said the corn beef hash was great. I don't eat that, so I didn't try any. Overall the diner is clean and the employees are friendly. Salads, sandwiches and other entrees are on the menu. If you are in the mood for dessert, they have cake and also shakes for you to choose. If I had to do it all over again, we would come in earlier and dine. After we came in, many locals and truck drivers came in to dine. This is a truck stop, but a restaurant that has been here for many years that is in a great spot for families to come in and enjoy a hot meal. We may visit again if we are in the area. read more

My husband loves diners so we decided to check this place out after a visit to the zoo. It was at a truck stop, so a little strange but no biggie. There was only one table when we arrived. We stood at the door for a minute before the guy sitting at the table told us we could seat ourselves. One reason we were looking forward to this place was for the salad bar, which was closed. So that was disappointing. The waitress came right over and took our drink order. For food we ordered two chicken tender kids meals, and a kids cheeseburger meal. My kids loved the fries. I ordered a turkey club with fries, which was really good. My son got spaghetti and meatballs and said it was really good. My husband got a hot turkey dinner and said it was great. We got a couple side salads which were delicious. We also ordered an appetizer of cheese and bacon fries, which our server forgot about. It took a few minutes to get them, but at least they were hot. They were really good, with real bacon. Unfortunately after we got the cheese fries we did not see our server for a vey long time. I believe she was the only one there but we were the only table by this point. She finally came over and we got refills, boxes and the check. My husband ended up taking the credit card up so we could finally leave. I thought the prices were decent. $80 for 7 of us to eat. My smaller kids do share a meal but still cheaper than most places we eat at. Overall I'd definitely return for the delicious food. read more

Popped in to grab a quick breakfast to go, while doing some work in the area. I WAS going to go across the street to a well known fast good place, and I am very happy that I changed my mind. The girl working the counter was extremely pleasant and easy to listen to, with her southern drawl. I ordered a BEC (bacon egg and cheese) on a water (bulkie) roll. And homefries. I prefer my egg over medium, and it was SPOT ON! Bacon was crisp, cheese was melty, and the homefries were seasoned and fried to perfection. On a side note.... if you are a driver, and a *regular*, save your receipts. From the diner AND the store. For every (specific) dollar amount you spend, you get $2.50 off of the fee for your parking in the truck lot. read more

I visited this diner for dinner the first time in about four years. To cut to the chase, the last time I went there the prices were much lower as is the case with just about all restaurants. I order some chopped steak which came with mashed potatoes and mixed vegetables. The good news is the service was pretty good and the food decent but not spectacular. The price for the dinner was $12.99 and the steak was 8 ounces. My beef(pun intended) is that the dinner did not include soup or salad nor any kind of rolls or bread, which would have been extra. The Coke I ordered cost close to $3 and while it did include free refills, the original serving was in a glass noticeably smaller than that other restaurants for the same price. Also the glass had way too much ice on it and not enough soda. My overall assessment of the restaurant is that I would go there say on Christmas or any other holiday when most other restaurants are closed. They may call themselves a diner, but the prices are more in line with what restaurants charge rather than the lower traditional prices one expects at a diner!! read more

To start, I give kudos to any establishment/restaurant (especially) that is open 24 hours a day. I couldn't do it. Neither me nor my friend had ever been here, yet we'd driven by hundreds of times, living a few towns over. Walking in, I loved it. I love 50s feel places and this is definitely one. Review would have been 3 starts but how the 50s are brought back, bumped it up to 4 stars in my book. There's a giant jukebox in the middle of the place, I'm not sure if it's a working one because I didn't, nor did anyone else there try to use it. I ordered the New York styled Reuben sandwich with an upcharged side of onion rings. The onion rings themselves were pretty yummy. A couple were real heavy but overall good. The sandwich wasn't bad. To be quite honest it was the first time I'd tried one, and I'm not sure what possessed me to order it. I wouldn't order it again over other things on the menu but hey, least I can say I tried! The breakfast for dinner wasn't mine-- but I did try the kielbasa. It wasn't actually that bad! However the waffle.... now I was told the waffle was good, and they ate all of it. But $6.00 for a Belgian waffle?? That seems crazy to me for a single waffle. I'd probably go back here for a late night dessert bite at least one more time! The amount of patience me and my boyfriend showed was more than I could even explain. 2 other people at restaurant didn't get menu for 15 minutes while sitting there then finally ordered mozzarella sticks(which were good) but she never came back for our order. Maybe this was a bad night...I'm not quite sure what I can say to alleviate the pain, lol. First of all, we got to the Diner at 2:30am. Within 5 minutes of being there, there was an argument between a waitress and a customer and their request of silverware that they never received. To make the long story short, we left the Diner at 4:30am! Not only did they forget silverware, our waters, and an order. Their response showed little sympathy. 1. Old chicken 2. Barely cooked eggs 3. Strips of what appeared to be soggy shrewd bacon. Wtf!!? 4. A request for a well done burger arrived rare 5. We asked for honey mustard that never came until the check came. 6. Rating this place for it's breakfasts. They are open 24/7 though. Come here on occasion for over 20 years. Always good food at a reasonable price. The waitresses really are the best, most attentive around. Simply great service. They usually even ask if you want an additional coffee to go at no charge when you pay. read more

On my way through the Springfield area, I made a pitstop at the Fifties Diner for an early Sunday dinner, located right off the Mass Pike at Exit 6. The Fifties Diner is a truckstop diner which is open 24 hours serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Upon entering, there's a jukebox front and center playing 50s music (CDs). The place is very bright with green and pink neon lighting, salad bar, black & white tile floors, pink painted walls, a few framed oldies posters, lunch counter seating, booth seating, and table seating. I grabbed a menu and seated myself at a booth. The menu offers typical breakfast dishes, soups, chili, salads, salad bar, appetizers, sandwiches, wraps, pasta, comfort entrees (meatloaf, liver & onions, pork chops & more), and desserts (cakes, pies, ice cream treats). The prices (in Feb 2009) are fair, sandwiches priced $4.99-$6.99 and most entrees are priced $6.79-$8.99. The NY Sirloin Steak dinners are $11.49-$14.49 (8oz & 12oz). The place was moderately busy with only one waitress serving the entire place solo. The service was very scattered and the waitress was overwhelmed rushing orders of food and drinks back and forth. It took about 10 minutes before the waitress was able to take my order. I ordered the Fish n' Chips with cole slaw ($8.99) and added the soup and salad bar for $3.99. Some dinners come with a side salad, but the all you can eat salad bar is always $3.99 extra with any meal, $6.99 as a meal, $4.99/lb to go. The salad bar was okay, which has around 30 items including greens, garnishes, cold salads, dressings, jello, fruit, 2 soups and rolls. The cream of mushroom soup was not bad, sliced mushrooms in a hot milky broth. The vegetable beef soup seemed like they took French onion soup and added vegetables and chopped beef, meh. The Fish n' Chips were nothing exciting, frozen then deep fried, the breaded white fish was okay and crispy coated fries were a bit salty. The cole slaw (also on the salad bar) was pretty good. Like I mentioned before, the service was lacking. The waitress drops the food off and boogies off (too busy), no checkup until I ask for the check and a box for the extra food, which did take a while to come out. Overall, I was disappointed and the service (not the waitress's fault) was a train wreck. The waitress was doing her best to take care of every table and the seats at the lunch counter (I counted 15 diners), not skipping a beat. We stopped here late (8PM) on Memorial Day evening after having spent the weekend in Maine. I didn't really care what I ate, but I wanted it to be healthier then the junk I had over the past few days. When we arrived, we were quickly seated and I had time to look around. It was a cute place that seemed more neon and garish than "fifties," but I didn't live then so what do I know? I ordered the country-fried steak and my wife had the pot roast special. Even though the waitress told us that the salad bar was closing in about 20 minutes, we both paid the $5 extra each for the bar. I wanted to have some soup and some vegetables. I tried the soup and it was better than canned but not great. Perhaps had we tried it when it was "fresh" it might have been better. The salad bar was basic but okay. It might not be worth $5 on a regular day, but the chance to eat something nourishing made it acceptable at that moment. My country-fried steak was disappointing. It was a prepared, deep fried piece of meat like what you might get in a TV dinner (weren't they from the 50s?). I was hoping for something a little more authentic. My wife said her pot roast was very good, and after trying it I agree. I came tired on a holiday evening so perhaps I didn't catch them at their best, or maybe my expectations for a diner were too high. I stop here every time I drive by. The BLT on Sourdough it one of the best I've had. The chips and pickle are also above average. Unfortunately I can only comment firsthand on the BLT because it's the only thing I've had here in the last 50 plus visits (it's that good) The service has always been very good in the day. Stopped in as a convenient place to eat as I was purchasing fuel at the attached Pride travel stop. The New York Ruben was fantastic! I was a bit upset at first to find the Diner was closed to anyone eating in besides a kids party. Come to find out the kids party was a yearly benefit for foster kids and orphanages. The diner closes down to eating in for several days during Christmas for these kids. Although you can order to go. These are the place I like to patronize. Keep up the great works! read more

Went yesterday around 8am, the place looked spotless and Roxanne was an amazing waitress. We ordered breakfast and were happy to see that their food tasted really good and their French fries were excellent. My hubby ordered the cheeseburger with an egg, he loved it. Coffee was good, and although they said this was a truckers stop, you'd be surprised to find regulars coming in that weren't truckers. I was truly impressed and loved the 50's look. They gave us all of our food and drinks in styrofoam where it was easily disposable. I liked that they thought of everything from butter, Jams, ketchup, mayonnaise, mustard, salt & pepper in a small bag. read more
