This is such a sweet diner! It's next to a gas station and you would never expect that there is such an amazing place just tucked in. We were attending a wedding in the area so we enjoyed breakfast at the Fifties Diner two days in a row. My 10 month old son was welcomed by our waitress who was just the sweetest! I went to the fifties diner and ordered a western omelet, which was great. It came pretty fast. The waitresses were friendly and didn't hover, but were available at just the right time. Great truck stop diner. Stopped in on a Monday night and had the pot roast special. It was freakin delicious. Real mashed potatoes and great candid carrots. Paid the $5 extra (a little expensive) for the salad bar but the chicken and rice soup was worth it all by its self. Prob the best I have ever had... ever. Very flavorful with many different kinds of veggies in soup. AWESOME ! Waitress was excellent and very friendly. Y'all need to get here and try it ! Came here for dinner as recommended by motel staff and guest. First off - a salad bar was unexpected. Since there are a lot of things I don't eat, that was great for me. So that's what I had, a huge salad with diced ham and some cheese on it. Second - could hear the kitchen staff using vulgarities while I ate. Third - waitress argued with a couple who were disappointed their turkey dinners had deli turkey rather than actual meat cut off a bird. (I would have been, too.) Waitress said in unkind tone "It IS real turkey! This is a diner!" Couple walked out. The entire time I was eating I had to listen to the waitress telling everyone about it over and over again. I've been to the Fifties Diner twice now, both times late at night. As far as late-night diner food goes, it does the trick. The food is inexpensive, and the portions are pretty big. I haven't strayed from the basics there-- I'm not at all eager to try veal parmesan at a diner-- but with the exception of some really bland home fries, the breakfast options are good. Both times I've visited, the place has been nearly empty, so we've never had a problem with service. read more

I previously gave this a five star rating but things have changed drastically there. I often order the Irish breakfast: eggs , bacon, potatoes, corned beef hash and toast. In the past I always had plenty to eat but I went back 2 weeks ago and was greatly disappointed. ( I do call the Pride office but no-one bothered to get back to me) I have been to this diner over a dozen times in the past. The food I was served 2 weeks ago was one third of what they gave me in the past. I can't see how the truckers will put up with this. I guess they will go across the street to McDonalds!! read more

It's pretty hard to screw up breakfast food, but it's also just a diner, nothing to fancy. On that note, stick to the breakfast or easy lunch options (things served with fries etc). Prices are pretty low and the service isn't bad. The best part about dining at Fifties is all of the late night FREAK SHOWS that are dining around you. We went to the fifties diner after the hockey game last night 10/5/19 the waitress we had was rude, we asked her to wash our table she walked away and never came back so we then asked another waitress and she did it with no problem, I then ordered fish and chips and was told she wasn't sure if they had any what was my second choice so I told her and she never came back to me to say they did not have the fish and chip - we asked for a box and never got one - we then asked again and rudely she said it is coming. Server was super sweet (Katherine) recommended the teriyaki steak. OMG it was cooked to perfection. I normally am not a huge fan of marinated steak in teriyaki but this is freaking amazing. And it was cook just how it should be, medium rare. This is definitely a place i will make a point to come back to when ever i am in the area. read more

Disappointing says it all. Service so slow we decided to skip dessert would have been collecting SS by the time they delivered to table. Had open turkey sandwich with meat left over from civil war. They didnt bother clearing away dishes between courses, had piles of plates and bowls on small table with 4 of us trying to find a little room to eat our meals. Upon entering this establishment, I noticed there was only one other person in the whole place. So I spot the waitress, who is standing behind the counter, tallying up receipts. I approached the counter and said, "Good morning." She just looked at me, and without responding to my friendly greeting, said, "Are you here to pick up?" I replied, "No, I'll be dining in." She then slid the menu down the counter at me, and continued doing what she was doing. I sat at the counter and read over the menu for a minute before deciding what I wanted. 5 minuted went by and she never returned to offer me a drink, or asked if I was ready to order. Another fee minutes went by and a nother couple came in. She immediately went to serve them, then attended to the original person that was there before me. For the next 5 minutes, I sat patiently waiting with my menu now closed, and she never returned. She came out from behind the counter to attend to the new couple once more. So I decided to leave. In all, I spent 15 minutes sitting at the counter, and was never acknowledged. Needless to say, the service was piss poor. I never even got to taste the food or water. This place has AMAZING breakfast. A lot of it was souther food which I had never tried but I went there with a friend who is coincidentally from the south and she agreed it was really good. The food also came out really fast. The waitress was always checking on us to make sure we had everything (but not in an annoying way) and she was extremely friendly. read more

I've been here twice in my entire life...I can't remember what I had to eat there, but I remember it being tasty.

There is nothing special about this place. The food isn't near, what one would expect, from a place trying to capture the "50's" vibrance and food. Burgers are small, and fries are skimped on, compared to what it should be at a Diner(just see the pic of the Fish and Chips, from over 9years ago, barely any fries and that is clearly frozen fish, nothing has changed over the past 9 yrs). Mashed Potatoes aren't real potatoes (instant I believe), and served by a scoop, which is a small serving. The soup/salad bar is a rip-off for an additional $5, when you have also ordered a full dinner. The salad bar selections are minimal. The Chili is usually the best soup. You get a FREE cup with 100gallons of fuel, but then you go in to the Diner and try to validate that, with your dinner and they tell you, you can only use that at the fuel desk area. Why? I want to sit down and eat. Not go to the fuel desk area, eat a cup of Chili, then go sit down in the Diner and order a meal. STUPID theory there. The iced tea, has a terrible strange taste. Type of tea or what? Unsure, just funny tasting. It fails to capture that "50's Diner" on their food alone. I sometimes eat here, as I am an over the road truck driver, from central Ohio, and have to fuel/park at the Pride Truckstop, but, only because I am parked there. If I had transportation, I'm sure I could find better food elsewhere, even if it was a Denny's. Over-priced/Short-cut Boxed food/Small frozen food, hamburgers/Small servings. I feel like the food is different every time I come here. I used to love coming here so when I was deciding what I wanted to eat today, I decided to visit as I haven't been in a long time. The service was slow, I was left to look at the menu for what felt like 10 minutes. The food came kind of fast though and you could tell by tasting it. When I received my food, I was missing my french toast and I saw it sitting up on the counter and didn't receive it for several minutes. I asked for my eggs over easy but yet they came out sunny side up, my french toast tasted uncooked, and I asked for a side of hollandaise sauce, which I never received. My boyfriend also said his water tasted funny and his food was somewhat up to par. It also took forever for the waitress to bring our check after she took all the plates off the table and i feel like we ended up waiting for longer than it took us to eat, we were definitely sitting at the table for at least 15 mins waiting for the check. In fact I'm writing this review while waiting. The placement of this diner is kind of weird too, being attached to a gas station, however the inside looks nice at least. It's quiet in here and I feel like they should always have music playing but you actually have to go to the juke box and pay for music it seems. All in all, I feel like this place is not as good as it used to be. I feel like the food usually tastes better at night. I don't want to give up on this place all together so I may try to come at night sometime like I used too, but I won't be coming back during the day time for sure. read more

Passing through Springfield and needed a quick dinner. We like diners as they are usually fast, decent food and reasonable price. Not this place. The food was not good. My wife had a reuben with the flavorless corned beef was cut 1/8 thick. tip: if you buy cheap corned beef, cook it long and slice it thin. My coleslaw was vinegar and cabbage- I even added several spoons of sugar to it and it still wasn't edible. The saddest part was I ordered a dinner and wanted some bread with it- doesn't every food venue in the USA serve bread with a dinner? Not here: I was charged $.99 for toast/jelly? HAIR IN THE FOOD AND BAD SERVICE Terrible food and the service was awful. After starting to eat the food that wasn't even good we found a hair in the corn beef hash we found a hair in it. We immediately put that part of the food aside and took out the hair disgusted. Then when we tell the waitress she gave us a hard time and said because she didn't see it she couldn't help us. She said without seeing it she couldn't do anything without a manager and there wasn't one there so she called one and after us waiting around for another ten minutes she said she couldn't get ahold of them. Unless its like 3am and you're drunk, don't eat here. I've been here a few times with friends after a night of partying and it still wasn't any good. One time a friend of mine ordered chicken strips and they were straight up RAW in the middle, he sent them back, they re-fried the strips gave them back to him and THEY WERE STILL RAW in the middle. He sent them back a second time and they finally came back cooked. After we were done eating, and the check came and the chicken strips were on there!!
