Greg told me the calves could be stretched so I paid to have them stretched and soled at the same time- turning a $5 pair of boots into a $105 pair of boots. He was great at communicating with me through the app and seemed kind, so I drove far for the service. I tried them on when I dropped them off so he could see where they needed stretched in the calf. When I came to pick them up, I tried them on with the new soles- and the calves did not appear to be stretched at all. What hurt my feelings was when he said "These are for YOUR legs?" and looked down at my kankles in UTTER disgust. The judgement on his face has left a permanent burn mark on my memory. I think back to that moment every time I pass the $5 boots-turned-$105 boots I still cannot wear, every time I walk out my door. I paid what was asked, I'm only sad I didn't have more self respect to say "YEAH. MY LEGS. YOU SAW ME TRY THEM ON. WHO DID YOU THINK I WAS GETTING THEM STRETCHED FOR?". 2 stars off for the contorted, disapproving face he made at my legs that will haunt me every time I try on high boots for the rest of my life.

The job was perfectly in my price range ($30) when I had no clue what the job would have cost in general. I'm just thrilled that I could wear these shoes after having them stored in my closet for two years after buying them off eBay and fretting that I would never be able to wear them!

Last visit was for an 'Emergency'. My son soccer cleats have a rubber-band to hold the tongue in place that goes below the sole and it broke. Showed up on a Saturday at 3.30pm explaining he had a game the next day, at 4.30pm it was fixed. You can't beat that, and the price was right. My wife used a different shoe repair place in town that sort of lost its primo work quality over the years and she also switched to Shoetorium. Had heals replaced, broken leather straps replaced, etc.....all 5 stars.

There is absolutely no apology for wasting my time and not informing me that the shoes weren't ready. I returned two weeks later to get my shoes. They replaced the heel but didn't bother to buff out the scuff marks. I paid $80 for the heels! I asked the worker if he could do that. He did it on the spot while I waited. Why wasn't that already done? More of my time was wasted. This place is a joke. Overpriced and terrible customer service.

On January 14, I dropped off my vintage Allen Edmonds loafers for a full resole and clearly explained that I wanted the new soles to resemble the originals (tan leather with a black heel and black around the welt). The owner assured me that's exactly what I'd get and even walked me through the process, including replacing the cork. At $120 with a one-week turnaround, it sounded like a great deal. When I returned, however, the shoes looked nothing like what I requested. They had an all-black sole with clumps of dye around the sole, heel, and even on the uppers. Not only was it not how I asked for, but the workmanship was poor. I asked for a refund, but the owner acknowledged the quality was unacceptable and promised to redo them properly for free. After another delay, this time to order a higher-quality JR leather sole, he called to let me know they were ready. The second time around, the shoes were done the way I originally wanted. They're not flawless, but for an old pair of loafers with new JR soles at $120, I'm very happy with the final result. Had they done this the first time, this would easily be a five-star review. Instead, the three-week timeline and initial mistake brings my review down slightly. To their credit, they took responsibility and made it right. My advice: don't rely on reputation alone, and if something isn't right, speak up. They will work to fix it.

So when I came back over a week later, I tried to pick up the repaired purse. I didn't know his situation and I just wanted to make sure that he remembered what my item looked like. We had a bit of a language barrier but I showed him via the purse I was wearing that day where I had requested the repair and his face lit up. He was very apologetic. He lives in Altadena and mentioned the fire. I didn't press him and left him with my number. He called the next day and said it was ready. It's the best repair I could've asked for and only $40 for both loops replaced. This is a $300 item so it was worth it. Frank is so kind; he didn't want to charge me the last $10 (I only had $30 on me when I dropped it off initially) because I had to come back twice, but I insisted. I forget whether he lost his home or it was so damaged and the air so toxic that he couldn't come back. Despite all the trauma he's undergone, he remained very friendly and professional. I love supporting small businesses. Top quality and good service with a gentle smile. I will come back for other repairs as needed.
