My clothes end up looking more high end because of the fit. I've also been trying to reduce my consumption and shop sustainably. If something no longer fits me, they make small tweaks so I can use it for longer. Or if I don't like an old style, they will rework the outfit for me. Such an awful, awful experience, they almost ruined my wedding dress. Going to Maya and Company turned out to be the worst and most stressful part of the my entire wedding planning process. I explained very clearly from the start exactly what I wanted, - my main request was to make the bust of the dress fit me. When I bought the dress it had large cups sewn in that I took out, however the shape of the dress needed some taking in. Instead of listening to what I said I wanted they decided to sew some more large cups back into the dress. The bust did not fit me at all, and when I asked for it to be fixed they told me it would be an extra $500, and even then there was little they would be able to do, and it would be "a waste of their time." After that appointment I left very upset and ended up emailing them to complain because my wedding was coming up and my dress did not fit me, and they completely ignored my message. They also did a very poor job taking in the sides of the dress to fit my hips and waist. They left a loose section on my lower back which looked bizarre - this they also told me would not be possible to fix. Additionally, they neglected to sew the sides of the dress back up on the inside lining, so the fabric didn't stay in place and bunched up underneath the sheer outer layer making the sides lumpy. In the end I fixed the dress myself by hand which took me 3 days and a lot of tears. I am not a professional seamstress at all, but I was able to do it even though they told me it wasn't possible. As a side note, they also "forgot" that I had already paid them a large chunk of the total cost when I picked up the dress, and if I hadn't kept my receipt and shown it to them I'm not sure what would have happened. Overall they did not listen to what I wanted my dress to look like, they did not put any care into the sewing job, and they did not care when the dress did not fit me. read more

She took the care to test a demo hem by machine, but once realizing it wasn't the invisible hem I requested, she took the time to create a hand sown hem. I was so touched by her dedication and care to make me feel like a star in my dress. Not to mention the turn around time was fast, she was finished two days earlier than expected! She is a talented woman and so kind to show me her craft and artistry with textile design. It is a family business with an ADU studio, street parking was easy to find. I did not end up having my dress altered at Maya's, but I had a very positive experience and would absolutely go back to them for tailoring service. The business is located behind a family home, and there is street parking available. The space is bright, pretty, and very clean, with comfortable private dressing rooms sectioned off by a heavy curtain. I met with Zia for my fitting and she expertly pinned the dress I brought in so it would fit comfortably on me. She was patient and attentive and asked me if I was comfortable and how everything fit multiple times. She was thoughtful about length and fit and asked what shoes I would be wearing woth the dress and made sure it would fit me without a bra. The price estimate was very fair for the work, and I would have had my garment ready for pick-up in one week, but the cost was exponentially more than the dress itself (a second hand bridesmaid dress which I thrifted for eleven bucks!) so in my case I couldn't justify the service. Zia was very understanding and I was very appreciative of her time and expertise. I ordered my wedding dress over 8 months before my wedding date. When it arrived about 10 weeks before my wedding, it needed a lot of work to fit me. It was very easy to schedule an appointment online. I was a little nervous coming by myself for the dress fitting but I was immediately reassured by how kind and welcoming they all were. The whole process was very seamless. I was initially worried because my dress had a lot of detailing but they made it look like there were no alterations done. For some reason this business has a lot of reviews. They're very fast with yelp messages...so that's a plus. I made an appointment for an estimate for a dress. The "business" is in a back area/guess house of someone's home. Felt very strange. When I went in someone was being helped so I wasn't greeted or acknowledged for a couple minutes. Then I was told to go put the dress on. Some other lady was told to come and talk to me and she pinned the dress. The ladies there were talking in Russian most of the time amongst each other... I found that to be pretty rude. Eventually my estimate was written...$320 of "alterations". I found this very funny because it's a $100 dress lol Once I told them I have other appointments for estimates, I was treated even more weirdly, and was told "good-luck to you". I honestly don't know how they have customers with their updated business, rude remarks, and "cash-only" preference. They have a big appetite for money but I definitely don't see the customer service or honesty in their business to justify their prices. read more

She could probably hear the fear in my voice when I asked if she had any availability and that I needed my wedding dress in two weeks. I found Maya & Co on Yelp. I was looking for a local tailor who can hem and fix the back of my bridesmaids dress for a late September wedding. At first, I messaged Maya asking if she could do something with the backside of the dress. She replied quickly and with a sketch of what we could do. I immediately made my first appointment sometime mid-August. The appointment process was entirely online and the website is super user friendly. Her shop is in a back house of her home. Parking on the street was so easy. I went in, and Maya greeted me right away. She asked me to put on the dress. There are closed fitting rooms. I came out in my dress and she was able to see my concerns (dress too long and the buttons on the back). She suggested a hem and to reinforce the buttons on the back. I told her all the reviews on the dress said the buttons pop off so she told me they were already strong but if I was still worried, she will reinforce them. She quoted me a reasonable price and I mailed my down deposit since she only accepts cash or check. Fast forward to early September, I made my second appointment/pick up. I received a text a couple days earlier saying my dress was ready. I went in and was greeted by Maya's team. They got my dress and I proceeded to try it on. The dress was PERFECT! The hem was perfectly off the ground and the back felt reinforced. I felt so good. I paid Maya the remaining balance in cash and thanked her for everything. Very friendly but prices were way too high for a hem job.For a redo because I wasn't pleased with the first one. I was charged again full price less $10. She kept saying they are making no money from taking $10 off. But you own the business. Your employees should be getting paid regardless if a customer comes back or lets you know they are unhappy with the end product. I've went to seamstress's in Hollywood area less expensive that have done excellent work for lower price. I came here because it was closer to home. Also recommend that the owner Maya learn how to accept other forms of payment like credit cards or cash apps. Everyone doesn't always carry cash or checks. I spent a lot of time researching seamstresses, in hopes that my Berta gown would be placed in great hands and I'm so glad I found Maya. I originally brought my gown in, just to get the dress hemmed. The fit was 98% perfect, so I figured I'd leave the rest of the dress alone. There was a small portion of the corset that bothered me - it was maybe half an inch too short for my torso, so there was a slight bunch in the dress. I felt as though I would be really splitting hairs to go out of my way to get it fitted. As soon as I met with Maya for a consultation, she mentioned that wrinkle in a really gentle way. She didn't make me feel like there was anything wrong with the dress as is, and certainly did not make me feel like she was trying to upsell me.
