This is hit or miss store - they used to carry a lot more stuff but few aisles are empty to little items since covid. A decent collection of handbags and kitchen items which is what I mostly look for here. Some handbags are noticeably flawed and therefore discounted but there's a rare one in great condition here and there. Traveling to Austin and needed retail therapy so to Ross I go. The shoe section was not the best so I went over to the area I needed to be at. But was distracted by the kids section and Xmas decorations I picked up a beautiful red 60x70 throw, dress for my baby, and decorated towels for my bath. Best ross I've been to by far! The employees are always welcoming and nice and they keep the store clean, unlike other stores I've been to. Seeing all these bad reviews about customer service sucking ass. Customer service will be pretty shitty if you're shopping in the evening. By that time the employees are tired and just want to go home. It's understandable but I agree that it still doesn't excuse them for their attitude. Personally, when I go to Ross I never get treated rudely. I'm also not there to chit chat. I just want to go shopping see what cool or uncool things there is to buy. If the employees talk to me or not I honestly don't care. As long as I buy something I wanted I'm peachy. Yes, the lines can be really long if you go in the mornings. Instead of complaining just be patient and wait for your turn. Get on your phone or talk to the person next to you. As you can tell, they are pretty understaffed so expect slow lines. If you ever worked at a place that was understaffed you would know how difficult it is to keep up with customers when there's many things that still need to be done at the same time. Please be considerate. Anyways... If you go here for awesome fancy clothes than you're in the wrong place. The clothes at Ross are not out of this world awesome but they are good enough for someone who is on a budget. That being said, they do have some very cute dresses. They have a good selection of shoes and purses/bags. Now if you're an artist and like to use acrylics or whatever then you can definitely find a lot of art supplies. I like Ross for retail therapy without going to the mall. If I need a cute dress to wear to a wedding I was just invited to, I come here. If I don't want to spend a lot, I come here. I've found several good finds for me, but the majority of the time, I leave the store empty-handed. Either there is nothing I like in my size, the materials are beyond cheap, or the clothing is torn or otherwise defected. Not to mention, there is an extreme disorganization about the place. They do get thumbs up on their pricing. I feel comfortable paying the price listed when I do find something that works for me. Some of their accessories are also nicely priced. I have bought 3 pair of Seven jeans for below $20.00 each and another pair that is so funky I can't read the label I think it is Marlow Vintage Originals - anyway they were 16.99 have embroidery down one leg and they make my butt look way better than most jeans! The rudest employees I've ever dealt with in my life. One young lady stormed up to me yelling at me about something that happened in the parking lot, she got up in my face and cussed me out. Once an older employee noticed she came up to us to settle the situation, but ultimately she just ended up blaming me for the encounter. Since the young girl was actively trying to fight me she had to be physically dragged away by her co-worker. While I should have gone straight to a manager right then and there for some reason I decided not to and continued to shop. It was only a few minutes later that as I'm shopping down one of the aisles I encounter the young lady once more. Even though I didn't say anything to her and hardly even looked at her when I eventually had to pass her in the aisle she pushed my entire basket to the side and back towards me harshly. I took my basket straight to a manager and explained what just happened. Her response was to do absolutely nothing. The moral of the story here: if you don't want to get bullied while you shop find a different Ross. They're supposed to have discount clothes not discount customer service. I want to start by saying I LOVE Ross. My issue was with an employee. Her customer service was very poor, she did not greet my mother or myself, then my mother placed her items on the counter & not only did she have an over all unpleasant attitude she made a face & hand gesture for my mother to bring the items practically into her hands when they were not even 1 inch away from her. She was basically being lazy about reaching for the items. It's no coincidence Ross rhymes with chaos. Well, it probably is, but it's also wildly appropriate. I will find something to buy about three-quarters of the time I come here. Best bets are housewares and shoes. Clothing is super hit-or-miss. Actually, it's all pretty iffy if you've got something specific in mind. I got a pretty luxe 7-piece bedding set here: comforter, cool bedskirt, two shams and three different-shaped throw pillows, for $60, originally something like $180. That's what this place is good for, the odd gem. I always end up frustrated if I come with any one idea in mind. But the good news about this location is that it's just three or four stores down from a T.J. Maxx, which has a pretty similar atmosphere and selection -- actually, I was at both today, and they had the same pair of Nine West heels that were marked down from MSRP of $80 or so: Ross had 'em for $29.99 and T.J. was $34.99. There is no reason on a Weekend (when you know every weekends or holidays are usually extremely crowded) that you only have two cashiers in the line and the return person. So torn. As usual, my dive- in-quick scheme to pick up a running outfit was thwarted by this chain's chronic inability to deploy more than one cashier at a time. This was one of the worst experiences as the checkout person was having to take returns as well, so the line was alternating. Found my outfits in less than ten minutes. Took 30 minutes to get out..ugh. On the other hand, I walked out with two high quality running outfits for $50, and I can almost always count on being able to find sporting outfits for a great price at Ross. I am a huge fan of both Marshalls and Ross. I go to both every week but Ross gets a few more hits because its only a few minutes from where I live. THE best finds. I spend way too much money here but end up with amazing stuff. My daughter is a little diva and she always finds something she wants due to the price I can always say yes to her :-) hats, headbands, shoes, jackets, dresses. Everyone always asks me where I buy her stuff. The same headband I could find at Claires for about $18.99 I can find there for $3.99, My moms crystal glasses she spent a fortune on years ago I found 6 for $6.99, I buy my husband jeans here for $11.99 I find children's gap clothing for under $6.00 Jeans for $7.99, Candles are always awesome, beautiful designer picture frames $6.99 Walmart generics are $8.99 and the quality is amazing on frames at Ross. Obviously you have to choose when to shop wisely, NEVER go on a weekend but thats the same with everything in South Austin. The store is small but Great things come in small packages. Clothes for myself I prefer to go to Marshall's but anything else here is awesome. Only reason I did not give it 5 stars is, they have teeny tiny baskets ( I have two kiddos) and I usually end up making the older one walk (4) and always have to leave because I run out of room in the basket :-) (Good for my wallet ) but as soon as I get the kids down I try to sneak back and get the other things I wanted. The baskets have a huge GHETTO pole so you can't take the carts outside, So every time I buy I have too much stuff and they tell me just to pull the car to the front. Although most of the time the cashier or loss prevention will help bring Everything out, and I mean everything ( multiple trips sometime more than one person lol) And sometime the cashiers can be a little dense. There is usually confusion with the amount of stuff I set on the counter and lack of room in the bagging area. I usually help out by taking mall clothiers off hangers for them, and grouping things together. But sometimes theres still an issue. So you have to keep your eye on the register sometimes things will get double scanned. And every time an employee leaves they must show there belonging to someone in charge. I SHOULD NOT KNOW THIS. The loss prevention guy is at the front of the store. That should be done in the back away from customers. I always talk about my great finds and friends and family attempt to go but always tell me they thinks that looks ghetto. O well more for me. I know that they have to have that because people are so stupid and will steal and I know they need that because thats how they can sell items for so cheap. But it should be done in a more tactful manner and not give people such a ghetto vibe and make them ashamed to shop here. The baskets suck. There should be at least two different kinds maybe a bigger basket offered. She did nothing while the cashier was trying to ring people up, instead she flirted the security guard, and then watched the the one cashier work. I shop at this Ross all of the time and on SEVERAL occasions the same cashier is so rude! I don't know her name because she doesn't wear a name tag, but she's the one who's hair is blue and sometimes red. When I was checking out tonight she was going on and on saying "omg why do we have to close at 11p. I'm ready to go home" I was the only one in line and she was just standing there messing with hangers. Finally the loss prevention lady told me to go to the counter and the cashier would be right with me. I stood at the counter for another few minutes before she started to ring my items. Every now and then I like popping into this stores and occassionally you can find a few gems. These typees of stores always seem a little unorganized and chaotic, but if your welling to deal with that, you can certainly find some good clothes (and other things) at really reasonable prices! The selection can be hit or miss, but the deals are incredible. The staff are also very friendly. best place for designer shoes and housewares at discount prices. this is definately a bargain hunter's paradise but be assured that you will have to hunt. if you are looking for clothes be prepared to spend some time sifting through racks and racks of mis-selved sizes/brands. it's all about the shoes and housewares. there is a much better selection of designer brands in these two categories than any other at ross and the discounts are crazy. steve madden and dollhouse seem to be a pattern for shoes and ralph lauren and polo sheets/towels are easy to find as well. great picture frames, vases, cook books, assorted mugs, and random decorative crap also in abundance. WATCH OUT FOR THE DRESSING ROOMS. three out of the last five times i have been here i have found that someone has URINATED in one of the rooms. why why why. i don't know. yet another reason to stick to shoes and housewears. read more
