I want to echo what someone else reviewed, this has to be one of the worst locations they have. It has a nice location in the plaza, but overall, the inside of the store is not all that great. The stock is lacking. I know I have said this before, but why is the men's section always overlooked at stores like this. What they do have, seems to be limited to active wear and polos. Of course I didn't find anything I wanted and that made for a quick stop in here before I headed to the other store in this plaza that is similar setup. It was difficult to tell what they had for purchase because the store was a mess 2 days before Christmas and the line for the register was to the rear of the store. We saw I few items but didn't want to wait so we went to Marshall's nearby. That line was long too but they had much more registers open. Anyhow, back to Ross -- I returned at 7 am on Christmas Eve and was able to purchase the items we saw the night before. The person on the register- Teresa was friendly and kind. These stores are all hit or miss. Just never know what you'll find. I was in the area yesterday and I'd say for me it was a hit! It's located in a busy shopping center with Marshalls and a bunch of other stores. First of all, they have a self-checkout! That I've never seen at any Ross. It's limited to 8 items. I had 5!There's an area where you get the security tags removed by an employee then you can proceed to the self check-out (only cards accepted at this part - no cash). Then another employee checks your receipt before leaving (Costco style). I like the concept and if you're not getting too many things, it's helpful. The lines with cashiers were very long so I'm glad I chose this option. I found some dresses and I needed a new bathroom rug, so I would say it was a good visit. I would come back again. Not necessarily go out of my way but my nail shop is around the corner. read more

I went to this store on Sun 3/30/25 at 9:49pm and they had closed the doors. This is after googling the store and seeing that they close at 10pm. The security guard said that they closed the door to come in because they have to leave at 10pm. I only wanted to pick up a duplicate of an item that I bought there this week...knew exactly where it was, and that I saw a second one when I bought the first...needed only 5 min to shop! But, I did not bother explain this to the security guard bc I felt unwelcome to enter when he met me at the door. He was nice, but essentially telling me the store closes earlier than posted. If they will not let customers enter the store prior to closing hours, the actual time that they close should be listed. I'm very disappointed as a regular shopper at this store and just want to know when they close, so I can plan accordingly! read more

This has to be the worst Ross ever periodt!! This Ross needs to be shut down and start all over. Re train everyone!!. As you walk in, you will always see a grumpy Loss prevention employee on their phone. The store is a mess. Very cluttered and disorganized. I cant believe they had a re opening a few years back. Help is minimal because they cut back on staffing. The lines are painstakingly long, especially on the weekends. However if you look carefully, you will find some nice decor cheaper than their competitors across the street. If you buy food, look at their expiration dates. read more

I went to buy a pair of black shoes and found two shoes have different sizes when I got home. I went back to the Ross store at Gaithersburg with my receipt one week later. The manager refused my return because I lost the price tag on the shoes even I have the receipt. She can't identify what the items were on the receipt and told me I didn't have the price tag so no return! I have to keep the shoes and maybe wear it with the right one is 6.5 and the left is 8.5. I went to Ross with my friend on a Friday night. This Ross used to be more organized. I was able to find a few home goods and a pair of sandals. However, the handbag section is incredibly disorganized and cluttered; you can't move your shopping cart through. The clothing quality has gone down big time. The ladies' clothing was cheap polyester and not worth purchasing. It's a shame that this store has gone downhill like it has. Terrible service and layout. The store was a complete mess; carts all over the place and merchandise just thrown about. I had to return a pair of shoes that I purchased three days ago, and didn't fit. I was immediately accused of attempting to return a pair of shoes that were "worn". I had explained to both the manager and the cashier that the shoes weren't used, as you can see that the heels were in new condition. The manager didn't provide me with his name, and then told me that their floors aren't dirty and wouldn't leave the shoes looking worn. This was a complete lie since I had seen a few pairs of shoes on the shelves that looked used and dirty. The manager then told me, "If you bought these three days ago, then..." Sir, "then.." what? I don't believe that's an appropriate answer. People do have lives and are busy. He refused to examine the heels and told me to return to the original Ross location where I had purchased the shoes. I'm going to keep this short and maybe not so sweet. Ross has great deals, Ross has a ton of gems without having to look too hard but this Ross is always crowded, always messy and always has a ridiculous line with a skeleton staff. Why do I keep going back you say? Remember what I said about the gems and great deals? Yeah, that. So I give it 3 stars because I have found some really great things in there, especially in the housewares section so I'm a sucker and I keep going. If you go in with low expectations for all but finding a good deal and bring lunch and a chair to use while you wait in line, you'll be just fine. And remember, there is no such thing as running into Ross really quickly to pick up something. You may pick it up quickly but you certainly won't pay for it quickly! That is all!! read more

The Thriffshop looks better than this. There is more clothes on the floor that is on the hangers, the store is a disaster everywhere. I spent 1 minute getting in and 2 minutes getting out. No customer service at all Impolite associates, they act like they don't care about any customer over there. I bought several items paid with my credit card last week. I only want to return one item. My receipt is lost. One lady at the register told me that I cannot return it. I paid $19.99 and she scanned the item, it still shows for $19.99 but she said that she can only give me $9.99 in store credit! That is CHEATING. In my travels, I tend to stop at Ross stores to check out shoes and clearance items to pass the time. Our store in Mechanicsburg is top notch. The place is always organized and clean with pleasant staff. Upon my arrival I was greeted by a gentleman at a podium- like counter. He was friendly but I wasn't sure if he was there for theft prevention, as a greeter, or checking people in for returns...he was nice. It was fairly crowded for 2:00PM in the afternoon on a Wednesday, but I made my way to the shoes where I began to browse my size (and every other size thrown haphazardly in my section). I found one pair and began to walk through the rest of the store. Total chaos on all levels. I decided my sandals were all I wanted to search for and headed to check out....the line was 15 ppl deep and they weren't worth the wait so I left. Went to this location for the grand reopening after Covid and had a wonderful experience. I got lots of Things at amazing prices. The staff welcomed us back with smiles. They took appropriate social distancing measures and I was over satisfied. I'm also now friends with a manager at another location. I have been back since the reopening once and shelves were bare (probably because I took it all ) so it may be a god idea to check to see if they then shipments. read more

This has not much to do with the store but rather the customers. I was browsing the health and beauty products in the store at around 2 pm on Saturday, March 4, 2023. I watched this lady casually tear open the coverings on several products, even going so far as to dig her dirty hands in one use it on her hands, and casually put it back. I actually couldn't stand to see that inconsiderate nasty behavior and I asked her politely to stop doing that I told her that she was making the product unsellable. She just gave me a dirty look. I did report it to the loss prevention staff, unsure if they addressed it with her, but that's just nasty and ridiculous. I've been to much better Ross' in my life. They actually do exist. This isn't one of them. It isn't well organized. It doesn't have a lot of options of anything to choose from. It's chaotic and messy. Maybe they don't have a lot of employees but it seemed like a lot of things were broken and disheveled. I only came in here to see if they had a specific item. The shelves in this store always seem bare. I don't think its because they sell out - somehow the merchandise is all over the floor instead. Some aisles are hard to even get your cart through. In the event that you somehow found something that you must have, you better really like it, because you are going to have to wait in quite the line for it. 20 minutes is an honest average. Walked over to this Ross store after dinner at The Habit since it was still open. I didn't really have that much of great expectations here since I've already visited a handful of Ross stores in my day. However, a few things surprised me. Security at the door actually acknowledged our presence and greeted us as we walked in; there is a 'Designer Collection' in the women's section with real nice fashion pieces. They are more "pricey" but it's affordable to their actual retail price and it's nice to know you have that option anyways. Also, there are some nice furniture and home decor items that were actually trendy. I've spotted a few wall decor pieces that were at reduced price... Like a cute farmhouse style sign with a painted wreath and the word 'gather' written in some kind of hand lettering script for $1.49! If you also look carefully enough, you may find some signage for a rustic chic wedding. It's definitely worth it to go exploring around this store as you never know what you might find. read more

This place is hit or miss. I either leave with nothing, or so much stuff that I need to rent a U-Haul. Several times, I've caught them on the right day and left with practically a brand new wardrobe (sometimes that even includes shoes!). Their selection of tops is by far the best of any Ross store that I ever been to. I've been struggling to add some color, texture, and patterns to my wardrobe, but many of the other stores I shop at either has a monochromatic selection, or they have spotted and striped shirts (I hate both). I found all of the variety I could handle during my visit and I left with no fewer than two new dozen tops. That's what I call a haul! The staff in the fitting room area are a bit annoying. I like to shop unimpeded, and I hate to be punished for other people's mistakes. While I'm sure people have stolen from the store before, it is ridiculous to have to formally count every single item I have before I go in, especially if I only have 2. If I can show them to you in each of my hands why do I have to hang them on the rack first? Just give me my number. I had well over two items during my last visit and it required several trips to the fitting room. The employee staff in the fitting room counted the items in my hand and sent me on my way, but when I came back out a completely new person was there. This person wanted me to put each and every item on the rack each and every time I went in. What's more, she looked visibly astounded, not to mention suspicious, that I had so many items. Ummm, I came to shop, so... Each time I came out to retrieve the next set of items, she kept asking me if I still had the little plastic number card in the fitting room with me. No lady, it's such a great-looking number card that I slipped out the back door and took it to my car while you weren't looking. *insert eye roll* The only real downside to this store is the population of people who shop here. The ones that let their kids climb on the racks, play in the middle of the aisles, run full speed around the store unsupervised, pull all the toys off of the shelves, and knock stuff over without picking it up. The kind that pull items off the racks and shelves themselves, and just leave them sitting anywhere (including in the middle of the floor) when they're done. To be honest, that's to be expected at any Ross store, but it's especially bad here. Bad, but not bad enough to deter me from continuing to shop at this store. read more

I came here to review the customer service I received today. To be clear, the only reason I shop at this store is to buy clearance clothes or cheap clothing I can use inside the house for lounging and maybe some small finds for practical use as I go around the store. This review is for the gatekeeper at the fitting rooms and for the anti-theft personnel. So I and my mom brought inside the fitting room about 16 pieces of clothing, mind you, the store only allows eight pieces of clothing at a time per person. I was annoyed knowing that this "gatekeeper" was obviously snooping at us while we were fitting these clothes. Mom and I shared the same fitting stall. Since we still have some clothing left in the cart to try on, I came out of the fitting booth and found this annoying behavior of this store personnel. As if we went in there to steal cheap clothing. While I caught her around the corner crouched next to our stall snooping, she quickly said that she was looking for somebody and went here merry way. I don't know about you, but I found this inappropriate. This is not the only incident I have experienced so far, earlier this year while I went there to pick up a soap dish, I found myself wandering around the store for what I thought were interesting items like a vase for flowers and small containers for pens. This antitheft personnel keeps following me around like again I'm about to still some cheap stuff. Honestly, I saw him at every corner I turned my cart into, I don't want him to spoil my day further, so I quickly grab all the things I need and left the store. I know the difficulty of keeping merchandise safe as I also own a clothing shop, but I think there should be a level of trust you should keep for your customers, not all people shopping at your store are robbers and crooks. Maybe you should do your job discretely and avoid profiling of specific individuals. I didn't let this ruin my day, so I paid $198 for merch that honestly I felt conflicted paying. I just rationalized the merch was cheap and that I needed them. read more

I get it. Ross is a low budget...errr..."discount" clothing store. I get that, truly. I also get that as a result, Ross doesn't make organization of their clothing/products a high priority. I get that too. Really. However, what I don't get is just why is this Ross so absolutely terrible! The store is beyond "disorganized" - it always looks as if a tornado had just passed through. Clothes are on the ground or jammed in random racks. The shoe section is nearly impossible to get through, because all the shoes are on the floor. And if by some miracle, you are able to find *something* in this mess, you will then need to wait 45 minutes in line, because there will only be one person working the register - and that one person will almost always either be a trainee (who doesn't know what she's doing and can't find a manager to help her figure it out) or by someone who clearly hates their job and life so much that they can't be bothered to do anything more then just stand there and breathe. This place is packed with clothes and home goods. It gets crowded but parking is pretty good. This is my go-to-place when I need a dress for a fancy occasion because I always find exactly what I need...and usually the day of the party! Check the hours before you go because going early when they open or late about an hour before they close is the best time. They get busy fast and stay busy all times of the year. Right now they are open until 1:30am the week before Christmas. Do not come hungry and bring your patience. Lots of goodies to buy. Last Saturday I found my dress and since it was part of a 2-piece set, I asked for a discount. Their policy is to put the item on hold while they look for the other piece. I begged the manager to let me have it for my party that night. She told me I could not bring the dress back and she also gave me 33% off. The next time I was there was right before closing on a Friday night and Sonia was cheerful and very helpful. Please be sure to be kind to the person behind the counter. This is one of the most disgusting Ross' I've ever been in, in my life! It really deserves a half/no star rating. The shelves are spars. The floors are sticky. What product they do have is either half off the hangers or completely on the floor. They have a huge area for what I imagine is for the carts yet there are no carts to be had. The staff there is of no help, they really all appear to be upset they're even employed at this establishment. Honestly I don't know how anyone finds anything they're looking for at this location. I will never, I repeat never come to this location ever again. Upper management should really consider revamping this whole store. read more

This place looks like a level 5 hurricane just went by - everything is a MESS. I get that this is a discount store, and my expectations aren't high, but WOW. Never mind the clothes are a mess and the shoes aren't in pairs, but then you have parents who think it's ok for kids to run around screaming, and it's literally a ****show. But the icing on the cake has got to be the employees. They look like they hate their jobs, which is fine, but then they're rude and act like they have sticks up their behinds. This is NOT Romper Room, this is a business! If you cannot control your kids - DO NOT BRING THEM TO ANY STORE! I guess when i go to Ross, I don't expect it to be easy. I now I'm going to sort through racks. And I know, I should looks at racks in the sizes above and below me because things are misplaced. At stores such as Ross, which carries lower retail-priced product than Marshalls and TJ Maxx and is usually more than 50% discounted, I usually find it's better to go earlier i the day than later if you're looking for organization. I prefer the Rockville Ross over Lakeforest but this one isn't so bad. And I have scored great sheet sets here before! read more

I have long been a Ross customer... HOWEVER, this Gaithersburg store has way too many waiting in looooong lines for checkout. DO NOT GO on weekends, as many customers get paid on Friday, and shop then. Mid-week is usually better, but during holiday seasons, get there early to avoid half hour or longer checkout waits. Management there tells me it is always like this. Ross needs to add more stores in Montgomery County. There is very high density low-income housing in MoCo, and the clientele heavily shops the discount stores. Parking on such busy days is also a challenge. read more

This review is based on two visits in the summer of 2014. It's too messy to enjoy the experience of finding a steal. Both times I found something I wanted (but not things I was looking for) and both times ended up leaving after standing in line for 30 minutes to pay. The parents seem to treat this store as an offshoot of the nearby Chuck-E-Cheese. More kids are playing here than in that store. Kids are using clothing racks for climbing and swinging. Too much screaming, crying, running in a place that's crowded with merchandise on the floor. I don't understand parents letting their kids nearly get hit with carts by allowing them to run undisciplined through the store. read more
