Best food & service anywhere and character to boot...tell them Ric from CA recommended it.read more

Probably not going back to Dick's…read more.. We were visiting both Phoenix and Scottsdale with friends and decided to meet up at Dick's Hideaway for dinner after hearing good things. There were six of us, and we were quoted a 45-minute wait, which seemed reasonable at first. However, their system for managing waits is honestly pretty frustrating. There are no reservations, no text notifications, and no call when your table is ready. You're basically left hovering and guessing. We did make it back in time for our table, but a simple "hey, your table's ready" system would go a long way in making guests feel valued. We were seated around 8 PM after waiting and taken to a large corner booth in the back. Unfortunately, there were still two people from the previous party lingering at the table even after they had paid and the rest of their group had already left. I understand finishing drinks, but it felt inconsiderate given how busy the restaurant was and how long people were waiting. After being seated, it took about 15 minutes before anyone came to our table, and even then, not everyone in our group was acknowledged right away. Things didn't improve much from there. It took over 30 minutes just to place our food order. From what we could tell, there was only one server handling the entire restaurant. I can definitely empathize with how difficult that must be, but at the same time, when we first arrived, she appeared to be standing near the entrance rather than actively managing tables, which added to the confusion. When the food finally came out, it was very staggered instead of arriving together. I ordered the Taos tenderloin with green beans and fries. The sides were actually great--probably the highlight of the meal--but the steak itself was disappointing. I ordered it medium, but it came out with an overly charred, almost burnt crust that completely overpowered the flavor. The whole dish really needed basic seasoning like salt and pepper to bring it together. The atmosphere also didn't do much to help the experience. It's extremely dark inside--so much so that it's hard to see your food--and the space feels cramped. The layout is also pretty strange and honestly a bit off-putting. There's what appears to be a kitchen area right behind the bar, and then a full kitchen in the back--but what really stood out was the lack of separation near the restroom area. There's no proper door between the kitchen and the bathroom space, and from a small step down off the dining area, you can basically see straight into the kitchen if you wanted to. It just didn't feel very private or well thought out. Another thing that stood out was the portion sizes. While some people might see that as a positive, they were honestly too large--especially for those of us traveling who couldn't take leftovers with us. Slightly smaller portions might not only reduce waste but also help the kitchen keep up with demand and improve overall service speed. Overall, this ended up being more of a one-time experience than a place we'd return to. Between the disorganized wait system, slow and inconsistent service, and underwhelming food, it just didn't live up to the expectations we had going in.

We decided not to have alcoholic drinks and enjoyed water with our meal. We started with the Mexican Street Corn which can come 'on the cob' or off. We chose 'off' because we were sharing. My wife had the Mahi Mahi and Crispy Shell Ground Beef. she thoroughly enjoyed her meal. I had the Carne Asada which was very tasty and with a lot of meat either every bite. Literally. That's it. I think one of them had a little guacamole at the bottom of the taco to keep the tuna from falling out. Completely underwhelming flavor profile and a perfect portion size...if you're on Ozempic. I also ordered the individual carnitas and chicken tacos. $6 each, also during happy hour. The chicken and carnitas tasted like they had been dredged in salt over and over again. Zero flavor dimension--just salt. There was an attempt at creativity; they added some orange segments to the carnitas taco. But the predominant flavor of salt and odd white sauce ruined it. Even though it was complimentary, I have to mention the chips and salsa. I give them credit for serving the chips warm and not over salting them; they were really good. But the salsa was bad. It tasted like ketchup with diced tomatoes, onions and jalapeños mixed in. While I was eating, I overheard two different women at the bar describe the food as "not bad". Not a ringing endorsement and frankly, it's usually a polite way of saying "this isn't good." For me, this place isn't worth the money. I can think of plenty of other Mexican places that offer better quality dishes at more reasonable price points. I recommend going elsewhere.

A steak place that doesn't know how to cook steak ... And get orders correct…read more With a party of 13, we decided to reserve the private room in the back. At first everything was running smoothly until the food came out. Most everyone got the steaks or some special. Here were the first problems: - Not everyone got steak knives after asking 3 times. - 2 ribeye steaks were overcooked (asked for medium rare and got well done). - 1 fillet steak was still alive when asked for well done. - All plates were made out of metal so it burnt your hand when touching (made an infant cry instantly). - Brussel sprouts were cooked whole, too big to take one bite and was incredibly greasy. - Someone got the wrong salad. - Someone got the wrong vegetables. So that's where the downfall began. I usually don't enjoy complaining but when a restaurant is advertised as being high-end, I expect more, and there was more ... just more issues. We asked for a refry on these steaks. It took them so long that everyone else finished eating already. When they came out, we got more problems: - 1 ribeye didn't have a bone for some reason (but everyone did). - 1 "fillet" steak was actually a ribeye cut covered in sauce to hide it. Here comes the unprofessionalism from the staff. When asked about the ribeye bone, she just said that "they" removed it for you. I'm asking, "Why?" An $85 ribeye should always have the bone. I never asked to take it off. The ignorance continues with the "fillet." I know what a fillet looks like and when asked about the cut, the waitress had the audacity to say, "They flattened the fillet for you..." I'm asking, "Why?" We all knew what a fillet looks like compared to a ribeye. It wasn't a fillet. What professionally trained chef would ever flatten a fillet? How ignorant do you have to be to even say this? The ridiculousness continued with the floor manager coming in, apologizing, gave our first round of drinks for free, 1 steak for free and gave us a business card to contact the general manager. Wait. What? It's a Saturday night, during MLB spring training and the GM isn't around? And you want us to contact them? You want us to do your work for you, to contact the GM? In the end, I'm only frustrated because the steak was $85 and it felt like I could have cooked this better at home. The steak looked like you bought it at Trader Joe's. This whole experience, was not the waitress' fault. She was dealt with a difficult situation because of the back-of-house, the designer of the restaurant and everything else around her. Who is expediting the food? Who is in charge on a Saturday night? Who is the chef? Does this person know the basics of cooking and plating? Who here cares about their food? Who designed the metal plates to be burning hot to guest? I think I found a new nominee for Kitchen Nightmares. If you want to try this place, get the steak well-done if you want medium-rare. That's what I've learned this weekend.

This can be difficult since Thai food is usually served over rice or noodles, and with Mexican food, I have a hard time staring at a hot pile of refried beans without digging in. The ala carte Chile Relleno that I ordered from Los Dos Molinos with spicy pork fit the bill exactly. They use eggs without flour for their relleno drench, which along with the green chile sauce on top fit my dietary needs exactly The meal was spicy enough to make me break a sweat, but still highlighted the taste of the Hatch chile, roast pork and green sauce without over use of salt It was fantastic! My server was super kind and patient as I was trying to order food while at a meeting. So three stars for this! The food though was just okay. From the reviews I knew the salsa was going to be hot. It was very hot, opened up all of my senses--especially the red, but also it had tons of flavor, which I enjoyed. You can tell it is homemade all of the red and green peppers popping through. Now to the food. I was hoping for a lunch special, but there was not one in sight. So, I went with their tacos salad that came with a choice of a variety of meats, most of which were also super spicy, so I went with the carnitas. The presentation of the salad was awesome. It was open faced, so not that traditional round bowl that you see. What was in the bowl left a lot to be desired, as the carnitas was very dry and a little chunky--it was not fully shredded. The green salsa helped a little bit and so did the guacamole. All of the ingredients were fresh, but together there was just no seasoning and it just did not impress. I really wanted to give them more stars, but the food was just okay. I would not look here the next time I am craving Mexican food. This was a one and done for me.
