    Ice cream flight
    Amanda C.

Delicious local ice cream with quick and friendly service. My friend and I couldn't decide what to get, so we opted for the ice cream flight so we could try multiple flavors. What we thought would be mini scoops ended up being pretty sizeable so the value felt great! We got vegan chocolate, banana pudding, honey cashew, lavender honey, and roserock. My personal favorites were the banana pudding, vegan chocolate, and honey cashew but they were all good! Definitely recommend!

food - i've eaten at the relocated downtown boxyard location, and recognized multiple flavors from that previous experience, including vietnamese coffee and biscotti, the latter of which was offered as a vegan flavor at the location where my mom and i ate tonight, though i do if that flavor was served as a vegan option at the previous location. that said, my attention gravitated toward the vegan flavors, and i'd asked for the vegan blood orange flavor in a vegan waffle cone, which together and individually i thought were quite tasty, with the ice cream reminding me of orange sherbet and the cone reminiscent of a traditional waffle cone. further, my mom offered me a bite of her two-flavor cup of ice cream, of which i first tried the honey lavender flavor and then the vietnamese coffee flavor after my mom suggested me finishing the remainder of the latter in place of drinking coffee before bedtime, as i've got a really harmful habit of doing. so thanks for the healthy compromise, mom. service - the workers, including a young guy who dipped our ice cream, another guy who accepted the payment, and two gals who were preparing for the nightly close of the restaurant, were all kind and friendly, with the service of the guy scooping the ice cream being specifically notable to me because of how he assured my mom that he would ensure the spoon used for dipping her a sample would be clean before use, an often overlooked but significant reminder for anyone requesting a sample at a restaurant serving ice cream or a similar frozen treat. ambiance - i like the outdoor patio ambiance the restaurant offers, with the nighttime hour of our dining experience allowing us to enjoy the view of a stark illumination from the patio strip lights, along with some casual people-watching near the bustling cherry street location of the restaurant. and lastly, i'd also taken notice almost immediately of the trash bin on the patio shaped like an ice cream cone, which though i cannot help but recognize the andy frozen custard sign and hanging custard cone display as more vivid in detail than the novelty trash bin, the multi-flavored scoops on the bin and overall concept do lend toward a toss-up in such a comparison.

If you are eating in the area, this is a great choice for a light dessert. Selection is a bit limited with about a dozen different flavors of ice cream, albeit the flavors are quite varied. The do offer Sundays and some fun toppings to change things up. If you come with a large group or at a busy time, there might be a bit of a delay as there is only one employee working (at least during a weeknight, at the time of this review). Very large outdoor area is great for groups.

We rode our bikes there since it's conveniently located off the Midland Valley Trail. I wish they had a bike rack nearby. The light pink tiny cottage house quickly catches your eye. They have frozen treats including signature swirls and shakes. You can choose your flavor --vanilla or pineapple whip (lactose free). Then choose cone or cup and add your toppings ($1 each). The candy toppings are pretty extensive, from Reese's to gummy worms and sprinkles. You can also add syrups and fruit toppings. They have 13 signature swirls including Route 66 (vanilla soft serve with strawberry, hot fudge, whip cream and cherry) and piña colada (pineapple whip soft serve blended with coconut cream and coconut pieces). I tried their pineapple whip in a waffle cone with chocolate syrup. My husband tried their vanilla big boy cup ($6) with Reese's and butterfinger. They have shakes available in chocolate, vanilla or strawberry. They also have affogato and coke/root beer floats. There was a huge line when we got there but it went through pretty quickly. They have a good system to order and pick up on different sides. There's a big table outside but no seating available. Great addition to the neighborhood!

Our family ordered: the BootDaddy Concrete, Snowmonster Concrete, Butter Pecan Concrete, James Brownie Funky Jackhammer, Rico Suave Jackhammer, Tin Roof Sundae, and a kid's sundae with strawberry topping. It is rare that I will eat frozen custard, and I will usually order the smallest size because I try to watch my caloric intake. I ordered the Butter Pecan Concrete, and it was so delicious that I ate the entire thing. My family was amazed! It was thick, creamy, not too sweet, with the buttery, roasted pecans. I could eat those pecans all day long! Next time, I would like to try the root beer float.
