I'd keep this one short this place was very runned down and unpleasant every other location in Roscoes little town was incredible. The food here was lousy I do mean hard chicken, reheated mozzarella sticks, hard pasta should I continue? I thought it would have been a great experience. Customer service was also a no go! Decent diner located in the middle of nowhere, USA: Roscoe....the town known for fly fishing. I happened to be there for a work situation and met a few colleagues for breakfast. I stuck with the coffee - not a big breakfast eater during the week but my teammates had a nice mix of eggs, omelettes, potatoes, toast, breakfast meats..etc. Everyone enjoyed and said it was just fine. We stop into this diner all the time on the way to Ithaca. It is an American traditional and classic diner! With the classic diner look of sheet metal outside and neon lights inside. It also has the college flags of different schools and universities. It is often packed, and is set up for large parties. At times the service can be slow if they are packed, but only when it's packed. Usually the service is good. The food is good standard diner fare, and is eclectic in its selections. Definitely a good stop on RT 17. It will take a little longer than Mickey Ds, but it's a lot better. read more

This diner is a well known landmark in Roscoe and one of the few options around really. Food is your typical staple fare for diner class and the soup was fantastic! The service unfortch was quite slow for a non-busy night but our waitress was working hard either way. The monte cristo panini I had was too dry for my liking but my brother and dad devoured their chicken sandwiches. Next time I think I will stick with the soup again and perhaps some breakfast things. read more

What happened to this place? It used to be a good diner. Food was fine, service was terrible. Arrived on a Friday night around 8pm anxious to have a quick meal and get back on the road. The entire left half of the restaurant was closed except for one table with a family of four. Stood at the hostess stand for 5-6 minutes (it was not busy) while the family eating looked at me continuing their meal. No waitstaff helped. Finally I was about to leave (but was hesitant because there are limited options off route 17 in this area to eat) and the lady at the table gets up from her meal to seat us. She was either the owner or the hostess and her family definitely saw me but they couldn't be bothered being interrupted to serve a customer. We finally sat and the air conditioning was not working, flies all over the place, and a layer of filth on the walls that was not an oversight, it hadn't been cleaned in a long time. Also the music from the kitchen was exceptionally loud. Every time the door swung open you got 2 seconds is music blasting until the next time it swung open. Not very enjoyable when you are tired from driving and want to enjoy a meal. The grilled chicken BLT and fries were actually pretty good but everything else about this place was terrible and all avoidable. I won't be coming back. read more

It has been quite a few years since I have been here. I ALWAYS looked forward to making this stop on our family roadtrips. But Alas...all good things usually change for the worst. I do not know what the point of having the "Hostess Will Seat You Soon" sign...no one even acknowledges your presence. So after a few minutes, I just grabbed a menu and sat at the counter. Not the best place in Roscoe, but pretty standard as far as diners go. I had the chicken parm wrap with fries and it was fine. Ingredients aren't fresh and the portions are relatively small for a diner, so the prices are a little high all things considered. Service is pretty slow but friendly. Overall I'd say stop in if you're really craving diner food and you're in the area, but otherwise I'd skip this one. You can find better diners a little ways away in Liberty. read more

I'll tell you why it's getting four stars - the waitress BJ (Betty Jo). She was great, kind and attentive. This was after we came in and the hostess, not greeting us, said, "How many?" I said, "Hi." No response. We sat at the counter and she wasn't going to give us menus but then I had to ask. That hostess was unfriendly. She was heavy set, glasses, freckles and probably in her 50s? But then BJ was kind and wonderful. Another server named Donna was behind the counter and almost shooing people away by warning them "it's so busy back there" and "this is a holiday weekend". I was starting to wonder if she wanted to work or not. She got Sat a part of four men and I heard her say, "Oh, wonderful," sarcastically, she she laid eyes on the four Indian American men. Donna is a white woman and went over eventually with her fake voice, "How we doooooing today, gentlemen?" It was so fake and the casual slight at four Indian men was noticeable. But again, BJ was great. Stay away from Donna and that hostess tho! read more

Driving through and was hungry for a burger. Wife saw there was spaghetti so that's her go to. The decor is very diner. The service was pretty good. Waitress and staff were friendly. My wife of course ordered spaghetti but she got linguine. She said the sauce was really good and had lots of flavor. The meatballs on the other hand look like steamed tofu. She and I decided they had no flavor and she didn't eat more than two bites, I took a bite and it was like eating a sponge. I ordered the Bunko burger medium. The burger was more well than medium. The bun was really dry but not toasted. A toasted bun would have made the dry bread a lot better. I recommend the atmosphere and it's worth the stop. The Infamous Roscoe Diner was probably great at some point but today in 2021, there was nothing special or iconic about it. We went there for dinner and just couldn't understand what the big deal was. We foolishly went back there for breakfast, thinking their breakfast must be fantastic...Nope! Let's start with our dinner. The menu was kind of uninspiring and disappointing. Typical diner food but with less variety. Imagine that. We all ended up ordering burgers and none of us liked what we got. We ordered medium-rare burgers and got well-done burgers. They also managed to screw up the sides that came with the burgers; I got someone else's sides with my burger and someone else got the cheese from my burger. It was a hot mess. The bottle of ketchup on our table was empty so we asked our server for another bottle. She came back with another bottle of ketchup and said "haha this one is empty also"! She laughs, and leaves the 2nd empty bottle on our table...and never came back! We were dumbfounded. lol Another 10 minutes passed by and we finally waved her over and asked for a full bottle of ketchup. The 3rd bottle was indeed a full bottle! Yay...maybe now we can mask the taste of our burgers! We foolishly thought breakfast would be better at the infamous Roscoe Diner, so came back another time. We almost left while waiting on line but decided to stay...big mistake...HUGE! The weird part is, there was a long line of people waiting to get seated, as the hostess/manager was not seating anyone in the half empty restaurant! Why, you ask? Because she was "trying to give the cooks a break"....huh?!?! Why couldn't they seat their customers and let us look at the menu at our leisure? We had to stand on line looking at all the empty tables. The entire restaurant seemed to be on pause. This made absolutely no sense to me. To make matters worse, once we were finally seated, our server rushed us to give her our order! lol #1, what happened to "giving the cooks a break" and #2, can we have a minute to peruse the menu? Baffling! Another mystery: I asked for my home fries to be well-done/crispy, and was told that it would take hours to make my home fries well-done/crispy...Hours! Huh?!?! Hahaha I felt like I was in the Twilight Zone. Totally baffling. And nope, did not get well done home fries. Needless to say, we will not be back to the infamous Roscoe Diner. Instead, you should go to Kasos Greek Restaurant, located down the road. They offer a full breakfast menu as well as lunch & dinner. Service & hospitality is terrific & welcoming. The food at this place is actually pretty good. They have a huge selection and you can get breakfast all day. We stopped on the way to New York City from upstate and I was very glad that we did. We had a delicious breakfast. The only downside was the hostess. We were a party of four, and we came in right behind another couple. The restaurant was relatively empty, but the hostess couldn't be bothered to get off of her phone in order to seat anyone. The other couple ended up getting so disgusted that they turned around and left. We were about to do the same thing when she finally got off her phone and seated us. I'm glad we waited. Our server was very nice and the food ended up being good. On our way back from New York City the next afternoon, we decided to give it another try. Unfortunately, it was the same hostess and she was no better. The food, however, once again was great I had a salad that was big enough to feed three people and the other three had different sandwiches all which were great. I was so excited to finally make the stop to Roscoe Diner after hearing all of my friends talk about it and it really did not live up to the hype. The location is really convenient if your on route 17, and the place is hard to miss. They have pennants from a ton of different colleges around the main dining room which is a cool touch. I ordered the open faced turkey sandwich and I honestly can't say many good things about it. The portion was large, and the turkey was cooked well, but that's about it. The turkey lacked any seasoning and the gravy that was on top was disgusting. Not only was it extremely unappealing visually (picture below), but it was not good. It also wasn't very hot, so it had a film on it. Extremely unappetizing. Thank god my husband ordered fries, because that's what I ate. I was pretty shocked to have this experience after hearing so much, so maybe it was just an off day but I don't think I'll be able to bring myself back here. read more

I kind of feel that we need to drop a star off of the review after some visits since the last time we were there. It isn't TERRIBLE, but the food quality is highly dependent on whoever is cooking at any given time, so take that as a caveat. Last time we were there, in December 2018 for breakfast (at breakfast time,) the hollandaise for the Eggs Benedict was actually cold. I mean, it's not a terrible place, and I'm sure we'll probably keep stopping on our trips north, it just isn't as consistently good as it has been in the past. read more

I hadn't been there in thirty years but was visiting the area and meeting a very dear friend. I hadn't been in an old-fashioned great diner since I moved to the Midwest and was looking forward to a good meal and some old memories. I'm very sad to say it was a bitter disappointment. My friend ordered a burger, which is pretty hard to mess up and she was OK , my husband ordered an open face meatloaf sandwich, which was mediocre and served with canned gravy. And I ordered an open face steak sandwich, the thought of which had my mouth drooling. When it was served, it couldn't have been more distant to steak. it was plenty of meat, but it was roast beef not the best quality. And smothered again in poor quality canned gravy. I was a chef in my better days and I try not to be too hard on places that I visit, but by my standards food was dreck. I'm elderly now and disabled and needed to use the restroom. It was " handicapped accessible". It did have a larger stall But it was putridlly filthy. The floor was extremely dirty and there was a ring of liquid brown around the base of the toilet. Worse than any bad gas station I've ever seen. The so-called grab bar was hung behind the toilet totally useless for a woman getting down or getting up. Adding insult to injury while I was in there, trying to navigate the chaos on crutches and poor balance the lights went out. Apparently they're on motion censored timer. I was having great difficulty meeting. My essential needs needless to say. When I tried to get up and find my crutches , I lost my balance and nearly fell. Luckily, I was able to grab the grab bar from behind me and eventually negotiate out where the lights came on. When I went to pay my bill, I told the person at the register who said she was responsible for the going on in the building may be an assistant manager manager, but clearly not the owner. She told me that there was a much better restroom on the other side of the building from where I was seated, that would be roomier cleaner and more accommodating. if that was the case, I should not have been seated right next to the door of the other restroom on the other side of the building. I am infuriated by the whole experience. I very seldom leave a bad review and if I have a problem, I always prefer to speak directly to the owner, and not to make a public post at the risk of jeopardizing the business. I know how tough it is to make a living these days. But the whole experience was egregious. Had a daytrip to the Catskill region and decided to finally stop at the World Famous Roscoe Diner. On my countless younger days trips driving Route 17 between home and college, my diner of choice was the dearly departed Parksville Diner. Got there on a cold Sunday morning for brunch. They are taking Covid precautions seriously but at least here you can sit inside and eat like a human being. I sat at the counter and had nice service. Nothing extraordinary mind you, but nice. I had my go to weekend delight, a 3 cheese omelette with fries and whole wheat toast. I also had a hot chocolate. Hey, when it's 12 degrees, hot chocolate is definitely called for. The food was fine. Stopped by on a late Monday morning on our way home from a weekend camping trip. It wasn't super busy but it wasn't dead either. It's a classic style dinner in the small but quaint downtown of Roscoe, NY. The interior is very retro but also, clean. Our waitress was the appropriate amount of friendly and she was quick and on top of things - exactly how you want it at a diner. Our food seemed to arrive immediately after ordering it - also what you expect when at a diner. I ordered my usual corned beef hash, well done with scrambled eggs on top. Rarely does my corned beef hash come out crispy and this was no exception. It was tasty though and you could tell they used real eggs and not egg beaters. My daughter got mozzarella sticks which had a nice crispy batter coating and they came out hot so she got the nice cheese pull! The highlight of the meal was my son's deep fried French toast. OK, I admit - I go to diners for breakfast food, regardless of time of day. Sometimes i MIGHT have a grilled cheese sandwich at one, but that's very rare. So, given that info, my review is based on breakfast food. They are evidently famous for the deep fried french toast. I have had it. Its OK, but a little greasy for me. I have had the regular too, and frankly, that's really good, but the price is not as good or reasonable. I also have a hankering for bacon with my diner food breakfasts, and their bacon the ONE TIME i had it was literally inedible. I made them take it off the bill. I don't have any idea what kind of bacon it was, or if it was cooked wrong or what, but it was NOT GOOD and I was not going to pay for it. I don't drink coffee unless I make it, so cant comment personally, but, people I have been with have not had issues with the coffee. And overall they have been pleased, but its been scrambled eggs or hamburgers, depending on time of day and travelling companion. I like this place to stop, but have never visited the restrooms, so cant comment. For me its a convenient place to grab a bite on the road between NYC and Buffalo or other points west. Only reason I came over here was to charge my Tesla. Knowing it would take time, I thought I would grab a quick bite to eat being it would take 30-40 min for my car to charge. I walk in, not busy AT ALL (as you can see from the picture the lack of cars in the parking lot), there is a sign once you walk in that reads "PLEASE WAIT FOR A HOSTESS TO SEAT YOU". I do just that, I wait and wait, see a few waitresses blow by me, a couple bus boys passing, some people coming out the kitchen glaring then proceeding to take other peoples orders. I eventually walked out. I am a person of color and this is a very predominantly white area and restaurant, I'm not sure it was because my skin color but it sure felt like it not being attended to even though you are following the directions given. As others have said, this is a historic Diner with a diner menu with a few surprises. I had the Bacon Jam Cheeseburger which was a great tasting multi-napkin burger. I traded the French fries for coleslaw and if you like a creamy style coleslaw, it was great. The Diner serves Roscoe Brewing beers and I had their Red Ale and it's the equal of the North Carolina Red Ales I've had. My server was Savannah and she was great. Decor is old school Diner and could be refreshed. This will continue to be my lunch stop going to or from the Finger Lakes. read more

I came here about 5-10 years ago and the service and food were great! But I came back this month and was disappointed. When we entered the restaurant, the hostess who was an older woman who I assume was one of the owners, didn't greet us and took about ten minutes to seat us. She just had a rude attitude in all of our encounters with her, even when we went up to pay. Waitress was right on it the entire time. One of our diners had stuffed porkchops with all the fixings and they were tender, authentic stuffing, veggies, mashed potatoes and even apple sauce!
