Last night I needed a traditional type of pie, having been mostly visiting the Neapolitan styled places enjoying their fire oven pizza offerings nearly exclusively for ages. Getting a basic pepperoni pizza with a semblance of something that I hope is more authentic than the corporate versions offered by places that are the McDs of the US pizza offerings. Rosati's seems to be the best option in this area of west Madison. The sauce is certainly my preferred sauce type. Very tomato and garlic heavy. Tonight I drove around the cities western streets for an hour trying to avoid going home to have to eat which would mean I needed to cook something for myself. I'm very tired of having to cook for myself night after night. Easter I cooked for the family and like usual I had to do the dishes prior to cooking because the kitchen wasn't ready for me create properly. Following a nice family dinner I was graced with being the one who was expected to do the dishes. Some days I really wonder why I had a family in the first place. Oh yeah, my wife said she wanted children or what was the point. So I was strong armed into it. Now that she wants a divorce I realize that my purpose was served, now that the kids are grown. I'm half way dead serious about that statement. So tonight I decided to return to last night's pizza place because I discovered that they also have a small seating area. The place is a dumpy dive with very standard old school offerings and decor. Seating is sparse and uncomfortable. But the lady serving me was friendly and attentive. The Italian Beef I ordered was massive. Very well filled to overflowing meat and an abundance of hot giardiniera. That was my first time in awhile having this sandwich, and well beyond the last few versions. The jus came on the side. Something that seems like it should be the only way to get it. Back when I very first visited a place of this sort when I first visited or perhaps lived in the Midwest and discovered this creation when I still had very little experience in Chicago and what it was about, I was told to have the Italian Beef dipped. I didn't know what was going to be delivered to my table. It was certainly something that was about to make an impression. You can't eat it with your hands. Though I tried in vain. A huge mess. Still I'm often tempted to get it done that way because I think it is supposed to be done that way. But it is not a good idea. Sure, using a fork is an option, in fact I can only imagine the next best alternative would be to not bother using hands at all and dive in face first. After all, it's a messy procedure. Tonight I tried with the jus as a side to dip. It was still a mess, and this sandwich simply demands to be eaten very hastily. Did I already mention the jus was very good? This is the first time I've ever had it and actually considered adding salt. It didn't need it. But usually it's mostly salt and secondly it is not tasting of beef. I'm thinking if Rosati's has soup, it's probably very good. The only thing I would add is that the meal was served very quickly but the fries arrived lukewarm at most. Because they were still fresh tasting I didn't want to make a fuss. Adding a bit of salt and a lot of pepper, and I was pretty contented. Being an Italian joint I didn't want to embarrass myself by requesting tartar sauce. I LOVE black pepper and tartar sauce with French fries. Most people, including my previously mentioned irritant I'm soon to be referring to as the X, that's among the many things she's been using as a way to insult me for years. One that I admit is a bit legit. But hell, they're MY FRIES! I can enjoy them anyway I please. Thank you very much. Four stars only because I don't have anything else to really compare with nor do I want to state that this is the best of the best. But it's definitely a place I return to when I'm in the mood for this kind of stuff. Prices are great. Service is always from the staff, and that has been my experience at this location every single visit. read more

WOULD NOT RECOMMEND ROSATI'S MADISON WISCONSIN ODANA RD. Nearly every time lately over the past year there seems to be a problem. Pizza raw, or pizza so over baked to the point of cheese being nearly black and hard, poor service, now this time one of the cooks was leaning over the big white board that food is prepared on for customers resting her elbows and front of body over the board eating food. This is an absolute food safety hazard. Also, bathroom smelly and no paper towels in dispencer to dry hands. I have not experienced this before the last year. This place has really gone down hill. Everything tasted fresh - mozzarella sticks, cheese bread , and the pizza all had fresh ingredients. It's hard for me to find a Chicago deep dish that is stuffed properly and where the consistency of the sauce used to top the pizza is more like sautéed tomatoes (diced) and not actual sauce. Not a fan of being lied to. My household has been regular Rosati's customers ordering a $30+ order, for many years, once a month-ish. Occasionally they've made mistakes and missed our order, and it's always been cool because they were honest about it. This time, when i called them after an hour and 15 minutes (the website claims 45 minute delivery), they lied to me, telling me the pizza had gone out. I live 2 and a half blocks from Rosati's. We waited an additional 20 minutes. After an hour and 30 minutes+, it was twice as long as it was supposed to take. If they'd have just admitted making a mistake and apologized, it would have been fine. But they had to lie to us. So, starving and over it. We told them to refund us and not deliver. We won't be ordering from them again. Guess it's Glass Nickel from here on out. I do *not* like to put negative reviews on Yelp, because i know how hard businesses work to make it. I've worked hard in customer service in the past and i get it. Located next to a pretty good CBD shop (the owner owns both that store & this one), Rosati's is a restaurant that has the good stuff- fine Italian food that will put meat on your bones real quick! I had the craving for a deep dish while en route to faraway Wassau, and was not disappointed. The pizza itself takes about 20-30 minutes to prepare, which I imagine is the expectation for any type of deep dish Chicago-style pizza anywhere. A medium is somewhat pricey (about $20 or so), and I could only finish about three slices despite having a huge appetite. The seating area within the venue is somewhat dark for an afternoon after Wisconsin snowfall, yet has quite a few Chicaco throwback framed pictures on the wall to make you feel as if you are back within the Windy City (there needs to be more Madison stuff on the wall other than Badger attire, FYI). It appears the attention to quality food has dropped off. It started off with the person taking my order telling me he thinks their ice machine attaches to soda may not be working and "thinks" they have ice in back. I understand equipment malfunctions but know if it is working or not. I had Italian sausage combo, their fries are always good but the sandwich was more of an Italian sausage jerky and glad I got au jus to dip it in. We ordered delivery from Rosati's. It's pretty cold out the night we ordered. Rosati should be about a 10 minute drive from where we live. The delivery driver took a long time and kept it kept showing that he was in some other neighborhoods so it looks like he took multiple orders and ours must've been last. When the pizza arrived it was ice cold. Then on top of it, he didn't even ring the doorbell. He just left it on the step despite our instructions.. The food is good here, but when you order for delivery and you pay $71 for a 18" pizza with three toppings, pepperoni, meatballs and onions and an order of mozzarella sticks, that's JUST INSANE! Each topping was $5.65 for the 14" but if you got the 18" they were $3.59 how does that make sense? We heard great things about Rosati's on Mineral Point Rd. In Madison so we stopped by for pizza. The pizza was wood fired and awful. The entire crust was burned black. We couldn't eat it. After picking off the crust we thought we could still enjoy the rest of the pizza, No! The bottom crust was hard as a rock. We couldn't eat that either. Last evening my wife and I visited this restaurant. She ordered a gluten free pizza and I ordered the small classic combo. She received her's in about a half hour. My order was not filled when got hers. Finally, after an hour wait for mine, I finally asked the waitress what happened. She said there was a mix up in the order. I said I was tired of waiting and just asked for the bill. When she brought it to me, I asked about a "comp" for my wife's order since I waited over an hour for mine and never received it. She told she could not do that. I said it was a reasonable ask given the really bad service and long wait. No way I was told. She didn't even offer to check with her manager. This had been one of our favorite restaurants in Madison. We even kept going when they switched from Coke to Pepsi. The food has not maintained its quality and orders are often wrong. The last straw was a delivery order that was wrong. The baked chicken parm (substitute meatballs for the chicken) had a 1/2 dollar sized spot of cheese on it. I called and complained about the cheese and toppings being light. I had a similar issue in Illinois with Rosatis near Wheaton on Geneva Rd. For restaurants charging good money, they should provide a fair amount of cheese and Toppins. They told me that I needed to tell them cheese to the edge. I said there is cheese missing two inches from the edge. You be the Judge! They told me I needed to drive back and return the original pizza. Cheese, mushroom, onion, green peppers.???? Kinda lightweight. I'm from Chicago, and I know pizza. I used to deliver mushrooms to Rosatis. They were amazing years ago. The quality is still the same, but if they think shorting people is going to help them get through these tough times, they're wrong. I told the manager I would send him a photo of the pizza, and he replied he didn't have anywhere for me to send the photo, so I thought why not share it on Yelp, so he could see it. We had friends visiting from Milwaukee and we knew that they loved Rosatti's thin crust pizza. We ordered the thin crust Monster largest size. The lady who took the order was kind enough to let me know that to accommodate all the toppings the crust will be slightly thicker than the usual . Glad she mentioned that and I asked her to hold the meat balls to make it closer to a regular thin crust. Also requested that it be well done.
