So we ordered Lou…read moreMalnatis since most in our group had not tried it, and then went to pick it up, and service was good. There is no "ambiance" as this is a take-out only place. We ordered the "Buffalou Chicken" and the "Deep Dish the Lou" (which was vegetarian, with spinach, mushrooms, basil, garlic, and topped with sliced tomatoes). The verdict on the two pizzas: The Buffalou Chicken had good flavor, we all agreed. But most of the pizza was crust - we wanted a bit more of a topping layer. Still it tasted good, and we liked they included little packets of oregano, parmesan, and hot chili flakes as toppings. The Lou pizza was also tasty, and the fresh sliced tomatoes on the top provided a nice tangy flavor. Also with this one, we felt the crust was a little much and we wanted more topping. But maybe that is part of the "deep dish" style - it's a bit different than some of the other deep dish pizzas we've tried. This pizza is good quality, good tasting, and very filling. It's tasty, although I wouldn't say it's my favorite, as I'm still on a quest for that favorite pizza. My personal preference nowadays is a thinner and crisper crust with a wood-fired taste and flavorful toppings, so keep that in mind when reading my review. This is a Chicago classic, worthy of its reputation, it's good stuff, I enjoyed it, and I'd order again.

My friends who grew up nearby swore it was the best pizza in the city. My parents were loyal to Pizza Man on North Avenue back then and after the fire we enjoyed Ned's. Here's a run down of my time at Hup's 1. Atmosphere The space is old school and straightforward. The parking lot is small, and the lobby is even smaller. About two people can wait comfortably at a time. Anything over two and they've become your boyfriend! There are no chairs, and orders are passed through a small opening at the bottom of a glass protected order window. No dinning in. You get your food and GO! 2. Pricing Prices are reasonable for the quality you get. Simple menu cost of pizza sizes, additional toppings, garlic bread, and cheese bread. The toppings are typical too. Nothing exotic or fancy, meat, veggies, and cheese. Oh and it's cash only. Make sure to know your total before you arrive so you're prepared. 3. Food I can't even lie, the pizza is everything people said it would be. Thin, crispy crust with good amount of toppings, cheese, and sauce. Their garlic and cheese bread are straightforward too. An Italian loaf, loaded with melted butter, and sprinkled with garlic salt and if you ordered cheese they give you a generous amount of mozzarella cheese . Just like the pizza it's simple and delicious. 4. Service I called in my order, and they said it would be ready in 20 minutes. We arrived five minutes later than that, and our pizza was waiting. The same gentleman who took my order handled checkout. He was friendly and efficient. No complaints at all. TO ANSWER YOUR QUESTION: I will absolutely be back. Hup's has now become what Pizza Man was to my parents...a Friday night staple when we don't feel like cooking or dinning in somewhere. A damn good one too, if you ask me!

The weather was gorgeous so I chose to sit outside on their patio. For an appetizer I couldn't decide between the wood fired breadsticks or the veal & beef meatballs, so I got both, and went with the bianca pizza for my entree, adding mild Italian sausage to it. The wood fired breadsticks were meh. Unfortunately, I didn't taste any of the herb mix that they were supposed to be brushed with. The meatballs, on the other hand, were flavorful and delicate. If I were to do an appetizer next time I visit I would consider the meatballs and pass on the breadsticks. The bianca pizza was outstanding. The sauce was initially a little runny, so I had to let it firm up a bit before picking up a slice, but it was worth the wait. The crust had fantastic chew and was a stark contrast to the harder breadsticks. This is something I would gladly get again.

When we arrived, parking was incredibly easy because of the parking lot! Plenty of parking spaces right in front. The building is beautiful and I loved the stone and leaves on the exterior. When we walked in, the host stand was easy to find and we were seated right away in the booth I requested. Service was great! The host and our waiter were both very friendly. I had a glass of rose to start and for apps we ordered the marinated olives to start and the beef tenderloin skewers. The olives were delicious, I loved the marinade in olive oil and the tenderloin was tender and tasted great dipped in the horseradish sauce For dinner we split the chicken ravioli special, it was delicious and creamy! For dessert we shared the chocolate, vanilla, and pistachio gelato. Overall, 10/10 experience and we both look forward to coming here again!

The two of us sat at the bar. It was otherwise empty apart from a couple of tables scattered throughout. While the bartender was so sweet, she was surely overwhelmed as the restaurant was very understaffed. We waited a good 10-15 before being served drinks, and I was hesitant to put in food at risk it wouldn't make it out in time. Alas, we went for it and were able to eat in just the nick of time before heading over to our movie. We went with the burrata app, and it was OK. Maybe I have have burrata standards (lol), but I was hoping for the big ball in the middle to dip into. Instead it was slices a top of sourdough and arugula. Wouldn't order this again, but we did see some of their pizzas coming out of the kitchen which looked delish, so maybe that's the play next time! Note: you can take food/drink to go from there into the movie theatre! Something we weren't made aware of until the end, but good to know for future.

I've got mixed feelings about this place…read more Hubby and I are regulars next door at Buchanans and got to know our servers there pretty well there. They were closed this day for some reason, but I knew Backlot had the same owners and wanted to give them a try and thought this was a good opportunity. We thought it'd be good to have another "regular" joint to get our happy hour fixers for the week. Our server Nivea was nice enough and came by often to clear out the table for us. We tried talking with her a few times, but she wasn't in a talking mood. A little more friendly would have gone a long way, but that's ok, we weren't there to make friends. She was still very helpful, giving us good directions as to how to place the order and pay, which was all done at the bar, and she would bring the food to us. The best part of the night was the ambience. It's really pretty inside, and super airy and well lit. We came in a little after 5 on a Tuesday, so it pretty empty, and sat by the window where a lot of light was coming in so it just felt really nice. The food was medium. The wings were exactly the same as what I get at Buchanans - not the best wows I've had, but solid. I got mine naked with sauce on the side, and actually, the sauce was a tad better. Our friends had theirs tossed, and they looked really good. The Detroit Classic pizza was good. But not worth $16. We were at happy hour, so only paid $9, so we were pretty happy. It's more of an individual sized pizza for a man rather than a sharable. Spinach and artichoke dip was not worth $13, but good for the happy hour price of $7. actually, I really enjoyed the dip, but it came with a HUGE portion of sourdough (I didn't have any cuz I'm on keto, but the rest of my table killed them - apparently pretty good lol). It was really too little dip for too much bread. Thankfully, it came with carrots and celery too, which was perfect for my keto. But...! the veggies were dreadful. It was mushy rather than crunchy. Weird. I asked our server whether they are blanched or something, just to make sure. She had no idea, and said she could get me more, and came back to tell me that the kitchen will cut up some more for me. It took about 15 minutes, and the new ones that came out weren't much better. Out of the 3 pieces of carrots, one was actually crunchy, while the others were bendy and mushy. Gross. Celery looked just as wilted. My friends didn't want to touch them, but commented that they looked like they were maybe frozen previously. When our bill came, we found out that Lakefront IPA and Alaskan Amber aren't domestic. Since when did Lakefront go international? So, word of caution, check which "domestic draft beer" in their happy hour is considered domestic. They seem to have a different definition of the word. Also you may have to check your bill to make sure the happy hour items are billed to happy hour prices. I just feel that overall, the prices are higher than warranted for the fare received, but ok for happy hour. Taste, quality and presentation wasn't quite up to the expectations from the atmosphere and price.
