Been going to RM for years both on the upper west side NYC and Hackensack. Last night at the Hackensack location, my son ordered a hamburger medium. Its was served almost raw. He asked the waiter to have it recooked to his request of medium. The waiter obliged and the hamburger came back medium rare. My son never ate it so when the check came we requested the Hamburger to be removed. The waiter said " let me ask my manger about removing it from the bill" then came back 10 minutes later saying RM will not remove it ,instead will recook it again. By this time , the rest of us were finished with dinner so that offer was ridiculous!. This in and of itself would not stop me from going to RM but the slower service, smaller portions , watered down margaritas and higher prices does I stayed loyal during Covid ordering take out many times but now it's Goodbye RM.. read more

The food, service, attentiveness, ambiance and atmosphere. My server Michael recommended a dish that's about to be added to their fall menu, Molcajete! The problem is that it only comes with either beef or chicken. I expressed that I'm a pescatarian and Chef Raul went out of his way to make it with shrimp to accommodate me. He came out and said that he usually doesn't do this but he will because the restaurant wasn't too busy. That was a very kind gesture that I appreciated very much. TLDR: Hackensack location of the Rosa Mexicano chain. Solid if you're in the area or craving Mexican and not trying to trek out to the city. I actually had no idea Rosa Mexicano was in NJ but discovered them while searching for a restaurant with patio dining. This is probably the only other location I liked other than the original on First which is unfortunately gone now. The guac here comes with vegetables and chips/salsa are $4 extra. I thought that was a bit odd but if you're trying go lower carbs, I guess that works. I've eaten at Rosa Mexicano many times over the years - so here are the noteworthy items. Guacamole - Probably what made them so famous. You can customize the spice up or down to your liking. Rich, creamy, so good. Queso Fundido with Chorizo - It's a cast iron skillet packed with cheese and dotted with crumbled chorizo. It's stretchy, fatty, smoky, deliciousness. They also give you warm tortillas to eat with this - personally I like it by itself or with chips. Taquitos - I have a soft spot for taquitos. It's like an egg roll made of Fritos, stuffed with chicken and cheese. What's not to love? Enchiladas Mixtas - One has a tomato-based sauce with beef and the other is with salsa verde and chicken. On my most recent visit, they have a taco with octopus and crumbled pork belly. The tortilla was made of squid ink with tender octopus, a slice of avocado, a drizzle of chipotle mayo. Surprisingly tasty. I actually haven't had an issue with service here since I've visited, despite what some of the other reviews say. read more

I find this Rosa to be nearly as good as any of their more original NYC locations. Cocktails and food are both excellent. I'm confused as to why the rating is so low... Nearly the entire menu is gluten free, too! Budin de pollo is my favorite, followed by the salmon in poblano cream. But their enchiladas are fantastic, pulled pork carnitas are drool worthy etc. My husband and I had our rehearsal dinner here in the semi private elevated back room. I had met up with some friends for brunch. This was my first time visiting Rosa Mexicano and I enjoyed my experience. We had made a reservation and when we arrived were seated immediately. Our waitress welcomed us and brought us waters and warm tortilla chips and salsa. I actually didn't know they had brunch and they had quite a selection of food options. We had started with our drinks and of course we had to start with the guacamole which was made fresh table side in a molcajete. It was so good! We ordered our entree and I had selected the steak and eggs. It was a skirt steak served with eggs, potatoes, queso fresco, salsa, and fresh tortillas. My sister had ordered the chilaquiles with shrimp. We had enjoyed our meals. We ended our meal with something sweet and had the churro bites. Brunch was really good and the service was great. By the time we left, the restaurant got pretty packed. They do have an outdoor patio out in the front. I will definitely be back again for brunch! read more

First time at Rosa Mexicano at the Riverside Shops. I was so exited at first as the Host and the waiter were so nice and accommodating. The restaurant looks very nicely decorated. We ordered the nacho's and it was very tasty. Perfect amount of cheese and other ingredients. I asked the waiter before ordering the crispy shrimp tacos if the breading was heavy and I was told it wasn't and it was a "fair amount of shrimp" he should have told me it was a shrimp tempura. It was a medium size shrimp (if that) stretched long ways dipped in batter and fried. I took the batter off to see what was inside because I couldn't taste or see the shrimp and saw that it wasn't a full shrimp. It was half a shrimp. It actually looked like it was pulled and stretch. It's embarrassing and insulting that management thinks that it's alright to serve a dish like this and charge $16.00. The taco barely had any fixings or a side. The carnita taco were a little better, but not great. It's a shame because it's looks like a nice place, but definitely a rip off. Not a place I will be returning to. read more

We have been coming to Rosa for years and it was consistently excellent. I think that it must have been sold because the food has changed. Tonight was the last straw and we will not be returning. We ordered the steak quesadilla as always, the flautas, and guacamole. The flautas and guacamole were up to par but the steak quesadilla was awful. I always order the meat inside to be rare/medium rare and it came out burnt. I sent it back and the new order came out twenty-five minutes later and even more well done. By that time my husband had already finished his dinner. The manager on call was dismissive when I explained what happened and my husband had to go up to the front to talk with him. He had to argue with the manager to get him to take the quesadilla off of the bill. Also we always get one of the booths towards the back of the restaurant and when we requested one tonight the same manager said that they were all reserved. Well, the booths were still 70% empty when we left as was the restaurant. Very sad and disappointed. We looked forward to our meals here but will find elsewhere now. read more

Very pretty restaurant. Interior is really colorful. They have a bar area separate from the sitting area. They start of with complementary chips and salsa. Brunch comes with a complementary corn bread. They make the Guacamole fresh right in front of you (in a designated area, not next to the table). Their food was pretty delicious. Loved the chicken tacos. The shrimp with rice tasted excellent with the spicy and lime sauce. The staff were nice and friendly throughout the time. Rosa's calling card is freshly prepared Guac at your table and a very tasty Margarita. Both are enviable skills but this micro-chain suffers from an inconsistent kitchen that is all about "greatest hits" Mexican and never strays too far from the center line. Their Manhattan location right off Lincoln Center frankly feels more elevated because truth be told, it's right off Lincoln Center. In this shopping mall iteration, the menu more readily reveals it's pedestrian pedigree. Four stars for outstanding service and just because I enjoy coming here. Whoof - what happened to this place? This place used to be tops. Now it's just Applebees with Mexican food. The frozen margaritas are not what they once were. Watery and zero booze. Ordered the red chili chicken tacos and and a chopped salad with grilled chicken. The tacos again were red chili chicken and were supposed to have pico. The chicken for both the tacos and salad was exactly the same. Nasty dark meat chicken in bite sizes that was poor quality and chewy. They definitely had a bucket of gnarly chicken in the back and just throw it on every dish they had "chicken". It's pure laziness. Manager came out and told us that's how it is on the menu which is completely false. This chicken was neither "red chili" or grilled. I don't know what the f it was. Brown and disgusting. We were 1 of 3 tables at 1:00. Kind of says a lot. Avoid. read more

We ordered takeaway away. We got the bean and cheese empanadas. They come with a chipotle based sauce. They seemed a little undercooked and could have been more crispy. The sauce that it is paired with was not spicy and not too savory either. We also got the corn esquites. These were pretty good. We had to add a little spice to make it slightly better. The chicken suizas were made with shredded chicken. The spice level was good, but it was essentially the sauce that made the dish. I tried the Wasilla mushroom enchiladas. I wasn't sure what to expect. It's made with different types of mushrooms, but it seemed like they were soaked in a mole sauce. I topped it with red sauce. The dish was overall good, but without the rice, it would be a small portion. We paired the meals with a pitcher of spicy mango margarita. Now, this was on point. Sweet, savory, and a quick buzz. This spot has been unchanged since 2010.... out of convenience my friends and I decided to try this spot again for a friday night dinner...and were pretty underwhelmed. Our server was nice and attentive, prob one whole star for that. But there was nothing new on the menu, no additional vegetarian items, I was still struggling to find a meal item and settled upon a low quality salad. I enjoy salads but if I'm eating it at restaurant it better have something special in its preparation or ingredients otherwise honestly I could've made a better salad. Anyways the mushroom enchilada my husband had was ok but overall our entire group concurred we would've been better off going to a new local mexican restaurant. It's been several years since I went to Rosa Mexicano and today on our way back from NYC, I thought it would be a delightful spot to eat lunch with my two kids. Holy smokes this place has gone down the hole of awfulness. When we arrived seemed like the two hostesses were clueless, made us wait five minutes to be seated in an empty restaurant because they were too busy taking phone orders. Once seated, I noticed how dirty the upholstery was (proof in my photos). It took over 10 minutes for the waitress to come to our table and I specifically said no salt on my margarita and what was delivered salt rimmed margarita. I just let it roll off. We love fresh guacamole and then low energy employee approached us and made the guacamole, the kids and I were excited to eat the unsalted, no like and no garlic... flavorless guacamole (sike). We love making guacamole at home and my kids said my husband makes a more flavorful one. Kids ordered tacos from the kids menu, dry rice and refry beans, we could play hockey with the chicken bits. I ordered brisket (legit it was fajitas) but they gave it a fancy name. When I thought it was pernil and it was burnt, no seasoning, and the rice and beans tasted like airplane food. The manager saw my displeasure and had my meal redone and to go per my request. A crappy lunch for $85 plus tip (15%). Truly going to shy away from these chain restaurants. Fortunately I live and love where I live and the local food is always amazing. read more

This place is a bit overpriced but the food is good! I got the tampiquenã de carne asada - which is the grilled steak and it comes with a cheese enchilada. The cheese enchilada didn't taste like anything special. But the steak was very flavorful. Whenever I come here, I also get the tableside guacamole which is fun to watch them makw. Their margaritas are delicious. The tacos are also good. If you're looking for a restaurant that serves up authentic Mexican food, this wouldn't be my top choice to recommend, but the food is still good! read more

Fortunately this location has an outdoor dining area so it was nice to be able to get a table in the middle of this social distancing/covid craziness. The digs: Most of the seats are reasonably distant from each other. Most of them are also covered though a few of them were not. I grabbed an early dinner on a scorching hot day at a table without shade (a two seater by the wall) and it felt like I was eating food in Lucifer's anus. It was not the most pleasant experience so be sure to grab a shady table in the summer. The food: As always the guac is tasty and consistent. It's a no-brainer appetizer order before you even figure out your entrees. This time around I had the steak which had good flavor although the meat was a bit on the rubbery side. However, the flavor was solid and the little cheese quesedilla with mole sauce was a nice touch. The service: The folks here were pretty nice and attentive. One of our orders got messed up (we got a regular quesedilla instead of the vegetarian one we ordered) but it was resolved quickly. All in all the experience was pretty good. As expected with limited seating in the world of covid, be sure to reserve your place in advance. Just beware of sitting in the non-shaded areas on a hot summer afternoon! read more

We came here for cinco de mayo and jd say for it to be cinco de mayo the celebration was lack luster. They had a dj but that was it. He just played in the background and wasn't really festive music. For service our server Elena was super nice and attentive. I was a little disappointed that the restaurant did not do the guac tableside and instead did all guac in a centralized location then brought it to the table. That takes away from the experience. The guac was delicious though. I initially ordered the shrimp and noodles dish but I did not like it at all the noodles taste like chewy wheat noodles and didn't have flavor so I ended up switching to salmon which was was better. I forget the name of my drinks however one was something with coconut and the other was something with guava they both were good. The location is hard to find. I put it in my GPS and it took my to the other side of the mall. Then when walking around to find it its hard to locate as they do no have a sign outside. read more

Let me preface by saying i had been going to Rosa for years, but I dont see myself going back anytime soon. They recently revamped their menu and among the obvious price increases they removed the one menu item that kept me coming back: Pollo pabil Mexican Street tacos. The chicken used to be moist, pulled, packed with seasoning and flavor, along with fantastic accompaniments of plantains, chipotle aoli. Absolutely delicious. Now the chicken tacos are miniscule, made with lower quality meat, have little to no seasoning, and the "pico" they put in the tacos is horrible. I ended up scraping it all off and was left with a mini tortilla and some chunks of chicken. Not to mention raising the price of margaritas as well? This used to be a diamond in the rough, but it's honestly just disappointing now. On a positive note, the tableside guac is still stellar. read more

We ordered a classic margarita on the rocks and it was not too strong. We also ordered the fried fish tacos, but they were too oily and I was unable to finish them.
