I will say it was slightly busy when we came in but our server took about 25 min to get our drinks in. It took over an hour to get our order (4 people). In between that time our server did not check in on us at all and didn't apologize about the wait. Several people that came in after us got our food before us. 2 out of the 4 things we got were not hot at all. On top of that 3 of our items came out at the same time and the 4th came 20 min later. Additionally, we had a baby with us who was getting fussy since we had been there for over 2 hours. When the waitress came with the check, we told her that the food was very late and cold. We asked for some of our entrees to be taken off. She never apologized but took 15% off as well as beverages. Disappointing experience for such a highly reviewed place.

Which dish was which was not explained to us and we thought all our food was out already because after she served us she said "does everything look good" or something along those lines. The banana nut was obvious but we weren't sure what was the omelet or the down home because there was a small side of an omelet waffle which was just egg. We didn't know if any of the dishes came with a side of an egg omelet or if the dish was served as a mistake. I then bring the small omelet dish to our server. I asked what the item was or it was included in what we order and she looked at the dish and took it away and brought it back to the kitchen. She then took a look at our receipt and didn't really say anything or explained to us what the small side of egg waffle was. Didn't answer any of my questions and I never saw that small side of egg waffle again. Shortly after then our down home dish was served to us. It was just a confusing situation that I wish could've been handled better by communicating with us. As for the food, the pictures online are a bit misleading and on the expensive side for the quality. All the photos were taken right after it was served to us. I'd only order the omelet again. A bit lacking with the ingredients and needs sauce. The down home was too doughy for my liking and it's a mix of salty and sweet from the batter and ingredients. Such was the case with this coffee shop. The location is the first selling point. Right on the corner of 8th and Greene Street. You might not notice it except for in the evening. The large windows in the front allow the light from inside to spill out. During the day, you get the opposite. The sun gives this place such a warm glow. I already love 8th Street because it is unique with its presence of pine trees (all the way to the riverfront), but is also home to some amazing other businesses. Walking in, you are greeted by plenty of seating selection and smiling team members. The coffee bar is straight ahead with the options. I have to give props to the design team as they did an amazing job with the overall theme, the rustic industrial feel. Again, the contrast of the dark wood and white walls with the sunlight is perfect. They will let you know upfront that they are the fruit of a collaborative effort by United Methodist Churches in the area. The primary goal is to provide a coffee shop where college students can come to study, fellowship, and grow. I mention this because I also want to add that, based on my observation, this was the only religious reference present. So know that there aren't various sayings on the walls that might offend or disturb the atmosphere. Also, because it falls under the churches, it is a nonprofit. This means payment is suggested, they can't charge per se. So have an idea of what you think a latte or hot cup of coffee is worth to you. I went with a nitro cold brew coffee and was told their cold brew and all of their beans come from Stone Roastery (in North Augusta). It is good to hear them supporting local and not trying to produce something they may not be ready for just yet. There is free WiFi and soft acoustic music playing and the invitation to come and setup to work anytime (without them knowing the company I work for). I look forward to returning soon. Stop by, if your schedule allows. Currently they are open Monday-Wednesday, 11 am-3 pm. They hope to expand hours soon.

While this little shop is not a convenient drive for me, it has always been worth the trip and the time. Everything is scratch made in-house (even their syrups!) and the herbs are grown in the restaurant. I've had the pleasure of watching them pour their hearts into the building and the menu for years and tried my first flatbread today. The bread is truly fresh and the flavors of the san blas was exquisite. If you want to support local, this is the place to invest in your palette and a small business that aims to feed their community well.
