We found this little gem while we were in Augusta to watch our grandson play in a baseball tournament. We were on the way to the ballpark and my better half saw Edgar's Bakehouse, so we decided to give it a try. I went for the chocolate ganache cake and it was amazing. My better half went for one of the brownies and was equally amazed. We were so impressed we grabbed a couple more goodie's for the rest of the family. Our barista was second to none with the customer service she offered. The ambiance is very welcoming. We definitely recommend you stop in and give Edgar's Bakehouse a try. read more

This bakery never misses! Every time I've gone it's been amazing from start to finish. The almond croissant and almond danish are next-level good -- easily some of the best I've had anywhere. The customer service is super friendly and makes you feel genuinely welcome. And as if that wasn't enough, it's attached to a Goodwill and a little bookstore -- so you can grab a sweet treat, browse books, and go thrifting all in one stop. My husband and I ate there bc Edgers Restaurant is excellent. We ordered : roast beef with caramelized onion with horseradish sauce, he got a side order of pasta salad, he got chocolate cake, I got the lemon and cream pastry. It was the most horrible, tasteless, dry, food we had ever put in our mouth! The bun was cold and dry, the roast beef was cool and tasteless, the onions were cold and they put nothing else even the horseradish sauce on it (I had to g ask for it), the pasta salad had nothing but pasta and mayo ... no chopped veggies and was also dry, the desserts were dry and old . 38.00 plus tip for something they should have never served. We will never go back . Plus the ladies behind the counter acted like they didn't want to work there and we were an inconvenience. read more

Have come here in the past for various pastries but always forgot to drop a review. Today I had a chicken pot pie turnover, pumpkin spice white chocolate mocha latte, and a Creme brule croissant. Creme brule croissant (5/5): This was a great pastry. It was a large croissant that was soft and buttery with an overlying crunchy creme brule caramelized sugar layer on top that was pretty thick. Towards the bottom was a custarde filling that was creamy while still pretty light. Will definitely return for this specific item in the future. At 5-6$ it isn't super cheap but it had everything I would want in a pastry. Chicken pot pie turnover (4/5): Flaky puff pastry crust with tender chicken and small pieces of softened carrot and peas within. The gravy (mushroom I believe) added some moisture and more flavor to the filling and crust. Solid item but I wish there was a bit more filling inside. Pumpkin spice white mocha late (4/5): Great white chocolate mocha with strong pumpkin spice. A bit too sweet for my liking, more of a dessert than a drink. Looking forward to my next return and ordering more creme brule croissants and trying out more pastries in the future. read more

Edgar's is a training bakery so the ambiance is just a tad unexpected, but not necessarily anything bad! It's got comfortable seating and is attached to the goodwill book section so it's sort of like having a bakery in a bookstore. Workers are super nice and very knowledgeable about all the various foods. Speaking of food, everything they have here is excellent. I really love that they have abundant savory and sweet options, so any taste can find something they love. They have a rotating staff creation where a staff member comes up with a unique product for sale, and it is really fun to see and taste the creativity. read more

Love this bakery! I haven't had anything I didn't like from here. It's an interesting vibe being directly inside a Goodwill, but it makes sense since I learned that Edgar was the founder of Goodwill. The pastries are all delicious and made fresh daily. I especially love the turnovers (spinach is my favorite) and the twice baked almond bear claws. They are perfectly flaky and have a good amount of filling. As for the bear claws they have a great crispy texture that is very satisfying. I have also tried their orange filling pastry and it's so good! The flavor is not overly sweet and has a smooth creamy texture. The service staff have been nothing but nice every time I've been in. I would definitely recommend stopping by when it's open. I think I should try the coffee/beverages to see how they compare since everything snack-wise has been solid. read more

We happened upon this local joint by accident after our usual breakfast run. Whatever expectations we had...this far exceeded them. The location is right next to the big Goodwill on Washington Road, and some of you may remember the cafe they had inside the big thrift store - this has replaced it. Edgar's Bakehouse is connected to the founder of Goodwill and part of the Edgars Group enterprise. When we came in, the staff gave a friendly greeting and a younger man came over to help us. As he talked about how everything from artisanal sourdough where they grow their own starter to the snowball with its dedicated coconut topping was made from scratch in-house, I looked down at his embroidered coat to catch his name. Our friendly, tattooed behind-the-counter greeter this Saturday morning was actually Michael Romano, the executive chef. His accent gave it away, but the friendly New Yorker definitely knows his business. He broke down the sections and I got something from the re-envisioned favorites (a snowball) and the hubs went with a more traditional European style apple danish and croissant. I picked up a pain au chocolat, cheese danish, and a brown butter crumb cake muffin. They have savory, they have sweet, and a range of beverages as well. I asked about the apple cider and Mr. Romano said he brought the cider in from New York and spiced it himself. This business offers a range of savory to sweet; there is something for any palate. The presentation is a thing of beauty. The food was decadent. There was no differentiation in service for customers based on looks or perceived socioeconomic status. The premises are clean. Service was friendly, professional, and fast. This is a 10/10 for me, and we would be happy to go back with family, friends, or coworkers anytime. read more

Tried the twice baked tiramisu croissant today and it was delicious! It doesn't look like much but surprise surprise, it was really good. The inside filling was like custard cream and outside it was flaky and crunchy with hints of espresso. This my favorite thing at the bakery! read more

I came here a couple years back when it was still called Hiregrounds cafe (I believe) and I recently heard they became a part of the Edgar's restraunt group and I had to come try! They had a large variety of pastries and cafe beverages at reasonable prices. I bought a couple of items thinking I would be able to finish them but they were so filling and so delicious. It thrills me to finally have a spot in Augusta making European style pastries. If I'd know I was going to be the first review I would have taken a slew of photos!! Check them out on Instagram. I popped in after lunch on a Thursday for a sweet treat. A regular gave me a quick run down of his favorites and I went from there with my order. I purchased 2 oatmeal raisin cookies, 2 triple chocolate and 2 chocolate chip. I've only had an oatmeal raisin and a chocolate chip- but they were spot on! I also purchased a mushroom and Gouda "Bruffin" with bechamel sauce and a chocolate croissant. I am beyond excited to try them. They had other sandwiches and pastries as well as some small desserts. Everything in the case looked beautiful. If you get a sandwich or a bruffin, ham and cheese croissant, etc., they will heat them up for you! That's a nice touch! Their pastry chef also does the desserts for Edgar's Grille next door, so I can say I had a lemon cheesecake this week and that was also excellent. What a great place to have in Augusta!! They have European style pastries and more. This place will not disappoint you. I think my favorite is their sticky bun. It's SO good. It's truly a sticky bun not a cinnamon roll which I love. The brown butter muffin is really good and is even better warm. Their salads are good. And the pulled pork bun is such a good idea. I haven't been here since becoming part of Edgars and I was very impressed- The baked goods in the cases looked absolutely STUNNING. I will have to come back and sample! Something important I noticed was how friendly the staff was which I really, really appreciate. I overheard someone explaining one of their house made mixes in detail and kindly, to someone who didn't understand what it was. My barista was happy to correct my cortado to a cortado with oat milk (I forgot to specify) and that was a relief as I had to work up the courage to let her know I told her my own order incorrectly. My wife and I feel a bakery, especially a great bakery can make or break a neighborhood or even city. We travel to different cities and one of our favorite things to do is find the highest rated bakery or bakeries and give them a try. I like anything considered a pastry or croissant, but still find that very few bakeries make you want to move somewhere near it. Most are ok, but wouldn't make us go out of our way to get back. But, Edgar's bakehouse is one of those amazing bakeries that would bring me back to Augusta. We loved their service, when the girl serving us heard we were splitting something, she cut them and half and served them on different trays. She also asked, "Do you want them warmed up? We can serve them warm or as they are." The Barista also asked which creamer we would like in our coffee (oat milk, almond milk, or regular milk) giving us choices. We did the ham and cheese croissant, Tiramisu Croissant, and the Apple crumb pastry. They have that perfect crunch that you can hear in a croissant and little flakes pop off as you grab it and bite into. I also like their deep golden color, not that pale look a lot of croissants have. They had beautiful lamination lines from folding butter repeatedly into dough. The Tiramisu croissant had a creamy dense layer at the bottom of it that made it textually different and delicious. The Apple crumb pastry was so deep with flavor, the filling was heavy with cinammon, nutmeg, allspice... all the things that make you think of a really rich apple pie. We had two cups of coffee and sat and enjoyed this unique little gem in the Goodwill thrift store, wondering when we can get back to Augusta to eat here again. read more
