    Porter's Porter's Biscuit Sandwich

Seeing "Best Brunch in Town" on the sign, we took that as a challenge and pulled into Root Cellar for brunch. I must say, we have only lived in NB two years, but indeed, this is the best brunch spot in my opinion. Besides the friendly and fast service, the prices were great. I absolutely loved my Porter's Biscuit Sandwich, which was so big I left at least 2/3 of it. The breading was delightful and perfectly seasoned, and the biscuit was heavenly- fluffy yet crispy on top. The potatoes were equally perfectly done. The Southern Hash was also delicious and very large portion. There's a lovely outdoor area under large shady trees complete with a play area. Dog-friendly!!

Came for breakfast, with coworkers, and the food was just ok. When we arrived, we were seated immediately and ordered. I ended up ordering the Belgian waffle, two scrambled eggs, and 2 orders of bacon. Everything was just plain, and unfortunately, the bacon wasn't crispy at all. Our server was decent and provided adequate service.

Amazing menu! My friend got a cup of tomato soup and a grilled cheese for a light lunch (also came w a side salad), and I got the TX bkfst (I forgot the true menu item name but... YUM!). Our host Gabriel also our waiter. He was polite and prompt and gave several suggestions to all of his clients when we asked. The manager Jackie stopped by to chat and told us a nice history of the super cool building. Unfortunately my breakfast had a couple of oopsies (food temp and a burnt biscuit bottom! Both minor issues) and she addressed it directly with us. Always great to see a manager "touching tables". The menu has breakfast and lunch and from what I saw, I'll go back for more. There's another location in New Braunfels but the charm and vibe will bring me back to this one.

What a delightful Saturday morning brunch. This was our first time at the location in new Braunfels. We've been to the original San Marcos location. We are so glad to find this location. Quite charming old building . We love the trees and the warm vibe. Staff was attentive, kind and knowledgeable. My husband ordered the French toast. It arrived warm, fluffy, and sweet. Alongside his entrée also came a cup of fruit. Attention to detail was given to how the fruit was cut and displayed. Nice touch folks. I ordered the eggs Benedict. Best eggs Benedict I've ever had. Perfect ratio of muffin, Canadian bacon egg and sauce. The poached eggs were clearly done by hand by a skillful chef. Impressed. Delicious and will definitely be on our brunch circuit for the future.

My husband and I had brunch here and really enjoyed our experience. The waitstaff are so friendly and attentive and the restaurant itself is a masterclass in charming, vintage decor and ambience. There was quite a wait (understandable given the quality of food) but we chilled outside in our car until close to the time they quoted us. The food as all pretty delicious with generous portions (always appreciated). We took home a good amount of food. The only reason they lose a star is because my meal lacked any sort of seasoning and was basically a big bowl of unseasoned potatoes with an egg on top. The hash needs to have smaller cut potatoes as well as more variety in what is mixed in and needs way more seasoning. Honestly everything else was stellar, so it's possible this was just an oversight on the part of the cooks since they were so busy. We will be back another time when we are willing to brave the wait to eat their delicious offerings!

This place is super cute! We got the biscuits and gravy and the biscuit sandwich and both were good! Our lattes were tasty as well. Our waitress was really sweet but we had to wait 10+ minutes after being seated to get waters/order anything. From that point on, service was fast and attentive.

We ate at The Root Cellar Café here in New Braunfels and it was absolutely delicious from start to finish. We started with the asparagus fries and WOW, they came with homemade ranch that was seriously out of this world. Crispy, perfectly seasoned, and honestly one of my favorite appetizers I've had in a while. For our meals, we tried the savory Belgian waffle with crispy fried chicken, which was cooked perfectly and had so much flavor. We also ordered a full plate of biscuits and gravy and added sausage, so comforting, hearty, and exactly what you want when you're craving a classic brunch-style dish. Of course we couldn't skip dessert, and the warm brownie with vanilla ice cream did not disappoint. Rich, gooey, and the perfect sweet ending. On top of the food, the atmosphere is lovely. They have a super cute outdoor area if you want to picnic, plus lots of beautiful seating inside that makes it feel cozy and welcoming.

10/10 Beet Burger was fantastic. Side of fresh veggies were so good with the home made ranch.

Went in for Mother's Day as all other restaurants in NB were out the door and I was pleasantly surprised. This was a cute made to order restaurant with a full bar (pictures not included) but I enjoyed a Mexican candy Paloma and it was good! This is a hidden gem for sure! I ordered the savory waffle and my chicken was moist and the breading was sooo good. The kids Mac n cheese wasn't some nasty Kraft but actually made from scratch for 7.99!! Their food was not only food but affordable (in this economy-it's a plus). Before I forget the bartender and waitress were awesome and very attentive! I would come back!

I come here all the time. They have the best beet burger around. Great service and check out my pic. Look how fresh and healthy that beet burger looks. Love the atmosphere here too. Their check-in area is an old ice chest from the early 1900's. So cute. And thy have an old fridge that is just so beautiful. Everything here is just great. Love this place.

Service was great. We were welcomed and seated right away. Our drinks were taken promptly. Our food was great! Hill Country Breakfast didn't disappoint. Gravy is my favorite. Good flavor, right hunt if jalapeño without being spicy. Biscuit was nice thickness. I'm not a potato person but the homefries were a good crispness!

Root Cellar Cafe offers a warm, welcoming atmosphere where comfort meets creativity in every dish. Whether you're stopping by for breakfast, lunch, or dinner, this charming spot delivers delicious, locally-sourced meals with a seasonal twist. The breakfast menu is a standout, with hearty options like their shrimp and grits or french toast making it the perfect start to the day. The lunch and dinner selections don't disappoint either, featuring an array of vibrant salads, savory sandwiches, and mouthwatering entrees that highlight fresh, seasonal ingredients. Whether you're after something light or indulgent, the flavors are consistently top-notch. What really sets Root Cellar Cafe apart is their commitment to quality and sustainability. The ambiance is cozy yet modern, offering both indoor and outdoor seating to enjoy your meal in any weather. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable, always ready to recommend the perfect pairing or dish. Whether you're grabbing a quick bite or lingering over a leisurely meal, the cafe manages to strike the perfect balance between casual and refined, making it an excellent choice for any time of day. They also have picnic option for a nice day. I'll leave a photo of the picnic process.

Rustic charm ambiance, with a cozy vibe. Service staff were warm and welcoming. We've been to the San Marcos location so we were eager to check this one out. While the menu offers a lot of unique dishes and the food is very fresh, we were a bit underwhelmed. Partly our own fault though, so not going to ding the restaurant for this. We started with the Asparagus fries, which we loved, biggest winner at the table. My mom ordered the famous Beet Burger, but without the goat cheese, not her thing. Unfortunately, she didn't ask for a substitution nor was she offered one, so the burger was on the bland side. Her fault, mostly. But she said the beet patty itself didn't taste very much like beets, which was odd. I asked how spicy the Chilaquiles were, since I can't handle really spicy food. The server said they were not very spicy, but I forgot where I was, Texas, not Michigan. They were not very spicy for Texas, but were very spicy for Michigan! They were delicious, but I could only eat a small portion due to the heat. I was bummed, but again, my own fault. They were too spicy for all of us, so we didn't even take the leftovers home, sadly. I have had this issue before when ordering in Texas, I know better, but made that rookie mistake yet again. My hubby had a sandwich he liked, but didn't love. My dad had the Brazilian French Toast and loved it. Great service overall and still a pleasant experience overall.

The French toast with strawberries was outstanding--perfectly golden, light and fluffy, topped with fresh strawberries that made every bite delicious. The liver was tender and cooked perfectly, and the caramelized onions brought everything together. I was a little nervous about making it a luncheon location for my fellow retirees, but one of our group members lives in New Braunfels and said it was a nice place for lunch. She also said it wasn't all that expensive, which had been my main concern since the online menu doesn't list any prices. Anyway, I made a reservation for 12 of us for the last Tuesday in April. Just a few days before, they called to cancel my reservation because they were painting the restaurant. I scrambled and located a new venue for that luncheon, but told my people we would still be going to The Gruene Door, only now it would be for our May luncheon. The restaurant is very nice. The entire place is painted in rich colors. We were at a large table in the middle of a room that had wonderful windows on three sides. The other tables were empty, so it was practically private dining. There were a lot of menu items sampled between our group members. I uncharacteristically took a chance on the meatloaf. Y'all know that I think my wife's is the absolute best version of my meatloaf- my favorite food. Most restaurants disappoint me, even when the meatloaf is pretty good. I will say that the meatloaf served here was very good. I liked the sweet and tangy tomato topping. But, it was nowhere near as good as my wife's. I also must have misread the menu because I was expecting mashed potatoes. The fingerling potatoes were a definite disappointment. There was nothing wrong with them. I just prefer mashed potatoes with meatloaf. The item that stole the show for me was the delicious cheese soup made with boch beer. It was so flavorful and creamy. It didn't have that floury consistency so many cheese soups get. To top it off, our server brought us a plate of complementary focaccia bread that was to die for. I dipped it into my soup like a peasant. It was one of the best textural and flavorful pairings I have ever enjoyed. The deserts all sounded delicious. I was really tempted by the creme brule. But, since I only late half of my lunch thanks to my $#@%&*@ diabetic meds, I didn't let myself order it. It isn't something I am supposed to eat, anyway. There were ten of us seated around the table. I did not hear one single complaint about the food. Every comment I heard was positive. By consensus, we will be back next year.
