Went in for Mother's Day as all other restaurants in NB were out the door and I was pleasantly surprised. This was a cute made to order restaurant with a full bar (pictures not included) but I enjoyed a Mexican candy Paloma and it was good! This is a hidden gem for sure! I ordered the savory waffle and my chicken was moist and the breading was sooo good. The kids Mac n cheese wasn't some nasty Kraft but actually made from scratch for 7.99!! Their food was not only food but affordable (in this economy-it's a plus). Before I forget the bartender and waitress were awesome and very attentive! I would come back!

What a delightful Saturday morning brunch. This was our first time at the location in new Braunfels. We've been to the original San Marcos location. We are so glad to find this location. Quite charming old building . We love the trees and the warm vibe. Staff was attentive, kind and knowledgeable. My husband ordered the French toast. It arrived warm, fluffy, and sweet. Alongside his entrée also came a cup of fruit. Attention to detail was given to how the fruit was cut and displayed. Nice touch folks. I ordered the eggs Benedict. Best eggs Benedict I've ever had. Perfect ratio of muffin, Canadian bacon egg and sauce. The poached eggs were clearly done by hand by a skillful chef. Impressed. Delicious and will definitely be on our brunch circuit for the future.

My husband and I had brunch here and really enjoyed our experience. The waitstaff are so friendly and attentive and the restaurant itself is a masterclass in charming, vintage decor and ambience. There was quite a wait (understandable given the quality of food) but we chilled outside in our car until close to the time they quoted us. The food as all pretty delicious with generous portions (always appreciated). We took home a good amount of food. The only reason they lose a star is because my meal lacked any sort of seasoning and was basically a big bowl of unseasoned potatoes with an egg on top. The hash needs to have smaller cut potatoes as well as more variety in what is mixed in and needs way more seasoning. Honestly everything else was stellar, so it's possible this was just an oversight on the part of the cooks since they were so busy. We will be back another time when we are willing to brave the wait to eat their delicious offerings!

This place is super cute! We got the biscuits and gravy and the biscuit sandwich and both were good! Our lattes were tasty as well. Our waitress was really sweet but we had to wait 10+ minutes after being seated to get waters/order anything. From that point on, service was fast and attentive.

10/10 Beet Burger was fantastic. Side of fresh veggies were so good with the home made ranch.

We ate at The Root Cellar Café here in New Braunfels and it was absolutely delicious from start to finish. We started with the asparagus fries and WOW, they came with homemade ranch that was seriously out of this world. Crispy, perfectly seasoned, and honestly one of my favorite appetizers I've had in a while. For our meals, we tried the savory Belgian waffle with crispy fried chicken, which was cooked perfectly and had so much flavor. We also ordered a full plate of biscuits and gravy and added sausage, so comforting, hearty, and exactly what you want when you're craving a classic brunch-style dish. Of course we couldn't skip dessert, and the warm brownie with vanilla ice cream did not disappoint. Rich, gooey, and the perfect sweet ending. On top of the food, the atmosphere is lovely. They have a super cute outdoor area if you want to picnic, plus lots of beautiful seating inside that makes it feel cozy and welcoming.

I come here all the time. They have the best beet burger around. Great service and check out my pic. Look how fresh and healthy that beet burger looks. Love the atmosphere here too. Their check-in area is an old ice chest from the early 1900's. So cute. And thy have an old fridge that is just so beautiful. Everything here is just great. Love this place.

LOVE the Root Cellar Cafe! Have been there numerous times, and it always hits the spot. Especially their Brunch selection... would 100% recommend The Rae Sandwich (pictured)!

Brazilian French Toast, delicious!

Rustic charm ambiance, with a cozy vibe. Service staff were warm and welcoming. We've been to the San Marcos location so we were eager to check this one out. While the menu offers a lot of unique dishes and the food is very fresh, we were a bit underwhelmed. Partly our own fault though, so not going to ding the restaurant for this. We started with the Asparagus fries, which we loved, biggest winner at the table. My mom ordered the famous Beet Burger, but without the goat cheese, not her thing. Unfortunately, she didn't ask for a substitution nor was she offered one, so the burger was on the bland side. Her fault, mostly. But she said the beet patty itself didn't taste very much like beets, which was odd. I asked how spicy the Chilaquiles were, since I can't handle really spicy food. The server said they were not very spicy, but I forgot where I was, Texas, not Michigan. They were not very spicy for Texas, but were very spicy for Michigan! They were delicious, but I could only eat a small portion due to the heat. I was bummed, but again, my own fault. They were too spicy for all of us, so we didn't even take the leftovers home, sadly. I have had this issue before when ordering in Texas, I know better, but made that rookie mistake yet again. My hubby had a sandwich he liked, but didn't love. My dad had the Brazilian French Toast and loved it. Great service overall and still a pleasant experience overall.

Root Cellar Cafe offers a warm, welcoming atmosphere where comfort meets creativity in every dish. Whether you're stopping by for breakfast, lunch, or dinner, this charming spot delivers delicious, locally-sourced meals with a seasonal twist. The breakfast menu is a standout, with hearty options like their shrimp and grits or french toast making it the perfect start to the day. The lunch and dinner selections don't disappoint either, featuring an array of vibrant salads, savory sandwiches, and mouthwatering entrees that highlight fresh, seasonal ingredients. Whether you're after something light or indulgent, the flavors are consistently top-notch. What really sets Root Cellar Cafe apart is their commitment to quality and sustainability. The ambiance is cozy yet modern, offering both indoor and outdoor seating to enjoy your meal in any weather. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable, always ready to recommend the perfect pairing or dish. Whether you're grabbing a quick bite or lingering over a leisurely meal, the cafe manages to strike the perfect balance between casual and refined, making it an excellent choice for any time of day. They also have picnic option for a nice day. I'll leave a photo of the picnic process.

Strawberry basil mimosa

We ate at the bar and we're well served. We ate all the things, Brussel sprouts, pesto pasta with chicken and a tender chicken sandwich on a fluffy chibata bun. Our cocktails were fun, strawberry basil mimosa and a limey gin drink. All food was made by experts! The ambience is a cozy farm house. We'll return for the dinner menu! Ps the snickerdoodle bread pudding is mandatory!

And I'll say right up front, the food was very good. From a short stack of pancakes (still huge) with a side of sausage links to the avocado toast with eggs and a side of bacon, the food was very good quality and flavor. What was disappointing was that the service was lacking. The hostess wasn't busy as we walked in but seemed preoccupied with wiping menus instead of acknowledging our party. We finally said "hello" and then were acknowledged and seated but no real greeting or enthusiasm. Similar behavior from our waitress. No niceties, just "do you want something to drink". When our coffee was delivered we asked for water and they were promptly delivered without any words but no straws. Maybe water isn't automatic here and maybe straws aren't either? Later, I flagged down the waitress to ask for straws and we got 4 straws --- for 2 persons ... ok. Again the food was great but my coffee cup sat empty from early on, needing a refill and I finally had to ask for it. I hope this isn't the norm.. and it wasn't terrible, but for such good food, you'd hope the service would match.

One morning we decided to take him and walk around Gruene and eat lunch. There wasn't much going on there, so we got back in the car and headed elsewhere to eat. I had never been to Buttermilk Cafe, but my wife has been several times with the grandson and his parents. I got a little nervous when we went inside. It was a bustling place, and I was concerned that the wait might be too much for the baby. Fortunately, the wait was about five minutes. This place smells like heaven. The food that we ordered was wonderful. I had the house smoked salmon with toast points and a poached egg. My wife had a slice of quiche, an orange muffin, and some fruit. The baby had a turkey sausage patty, one of my toast points, and some of my wife's fruit. Everyone was super friendly. The staff were wearing football jerseys to celebrate the Super Bowl. Our server was terrific. The patrons were all happy and sociable.

After getting to our seats, the waitress arrived with menus very quickly and asked if she could start us off with coffee. We took her up on the coffee, and before she came back, we decided what we wanted. We all ordered something completely different, and mine was one of their famous waffles. I also got a side of bacon. The food came pretty quickly considering how packed they were. All orders were just as ordered. My waffle came with syrup and butter on the side so that I could use as much/little as I wanted. Everything was very good, and our waitress never let our coffee mugs get even half empty. She was really good at her job and was also a very good conversationalist. Will I return? Definitely!

I also noticed that they seem to have a lot of regulars, which is always a good sign for a local breakfast place. It was myself, my husband, and his parents dining together, and we all ordered the Country Fried Steak. In my personal opinion, it was comparable to something you might get at a chain like Denny's or IHOP. When it comes to country fried steak, I personally prefer cubed steak that has a bit more texture and isn't overly tender or didn't have burger patty texture -- this one reminded me more of a patty. The gravy lacked a bit of flavor for my taste, and we ended up seasoning it ourselves. It didn't come across as homemade. I also wish the hash browns had been crispier on top. That said, the restaurant itself is very cute, and I loved the antique décor. It has a cozy, welcoming atmosphere that adds to the overall dining experience.
