Rooh is a very good fancier Indian restaurant in SOMA/Rincon Hill We sampled a bunch of plates, I always love the tikka masala but the dahi puri is a standout. Cocktails were very good too Service was reasonable, no complaints
Ordered takeout for dinner after passing by this place many times. Rooh Butter Chicken - flavorful and creamy but the chicken was on the drier side. If the chicken wasn't dry, I would've really enjoyed this. Garlic Naan - lacked garlic flavor and the naan was very dense. It wasn't chewy or fluffy like other naans I've had. I expected a little more from a place at this price point.
We needed a vegetarian-friendly upscale restaurant for lunch for a corporate celebration and Rooh was nearby. Unfortunately my experience here did not match the quality of food I tasted for dinner at the Rooh in Palo Alto several years ago. We ordered: - Dahi puri: unfortunately they came pre filled, so you couldn't do the fun poke-and-fill that makes this snack fun. The filling also seemed to be just pure yogurt. No potato, no mint chutney, no tamarind chutney. Bland, I'd skip - Bombay pan bahji: an artisinal take, with butter brushed soft rolls and a pile of lemony and buttery mashed filling (with a slight kick!). Delicious but requires assembly - Vegetable kofta: the dumplings themselves (falafel-like) were pretty bland, but the gravy/sauce was a heady mix of saffron and cardamom that addicted your tastebuds with its sweet and savory combo. Soak up with some saffron rice - Signature paneer pinwheels. 3 pinwheels (like a sideways paneer lasagna) in a smoky sauce. Again the sauce really carries this dish - soak up with some saffron rice - The garlic naan was dry and tough. - They didn't even have any chai?! Logistics: - [[HIGHLIGHT]]indoor seating only[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] - Limited street parking nearby but walking distance from T muni line and 4th & King Caltrain station - several vegetarian options available

First time here, we had a party of 12. We were sat at two separate tables. The experience started a little rocky with the original server and there was an incident where we had an extra chair and so we moved it to the end of our table and a gentleman came by and was pretty direct and said "you can't put that there". Instead of approaching it in a helpful manner, it was pretty rude. Not the best way to start your dining experience. The experience did take a positive turn when our new server greeted us, he was super positive and attentive and knowledgeable. We did not go with the prefix menu we ordered family style off the regular menu and I'm so glad we did. We got to try so many wonderful foods with magnificent flavors. My favorites were the dumplings, ribs, crab dip, naan and the flaky bread that came out with the naan bread. Everything has such great flavor and I would love to come again and try more off of the menu. Overall for such a large party we did have a great experience thanks to our server and the delicious food.
This place is so good! This was our second visit, but the first time we had food. Last time, we just had drinks and the food looked so good that we knew we would be back to try it. Our server was very friendly. He made great suggestions to help us with the selection process. We ordered the Dahi puri for an appetizer and it was delicious. Such a well balanced dish with a little crunch, some sweet and coolness, and a nice spice to finish. We also ordered the octopus balchao which was a hit! It had the perfect amount of spice and was so good. The portion size was very fair as well. They don't skimp on the octopus. For a main, we ordered the butter chicken, garlic naan, raita, and saffron rice. Everything was delicious and packed with so much flavor. The cocktails were super good as well, and their descriptions of them were really on point and helpful. We definitely recommend this place and will for sure be back in the future! Highly recommend.

This visit was a really mixed bag. I liked the butter chicken, but it was a very tomato forward butter chicken and a medium spice level. Based on the texture, I thought the chicken might have been cooked on the bone and then deboned before plating which I really like. I liked the Bombay Pav Bhaj, and the bread it came with was amazing with a bit more density to it than your usual pav. The masala jackfruit tacos were good and quite spicy. The saffron rice might be my favorite. It is as saffron as saffron gets. Very aromatic with a distinct flavor. I've never had saffron rice this concentrated. It was delicious. The wheat roti was also good with a nice texture but quite greasy. I think they melted ghee or butter on eat piece. I usually, they brought missi roti even though we ordered wheat roti, but they fixed the mistake quickly and gave us the missi roti at no cost to us. The missi roti isn't something I would ever order. It was like a soft cracker rather than a bread. The lamb Korma was okay. It was a bit gamey for my taste, but Ameya and his parents liked it the best, probably because it wasn't spicy. They also liked the tamarind prawns. I did not like my cocktail. I love a good clarified milk punch, and the Tulsi Twilight is supposed to be yogurt washed. I couldn't tell it was washed with anything. All I could taste was acidity, and it gave me heartburn. Also couldn't taste any basil. They are known for their dahi Puri, but I don't understand the hype. Reviews online describe it as a burst of flavors and describe the yogurt as tangy. The yogurt I had was only sweet, and the seasoned potato and green apple at the bottom tasted like a Mexican green salsa. The presentation was sad. I was a bit disappointed by the desserts. The texture of Milk was just rasmalai topped with a crispy milk on top that reminds me of how milk dries around the top of your milk jug after some time in the fridge. The Khubani Ka Meetha was nice, but the menu said it had a cardamom mousse. I absolutely love cardamom, but I couldn't taste it in the dessert. The presentation was beautiful for both desserts though. They didn't have chai. Crazy. I went home, took a pepcid to balance out the acidity from my cocktail and drank a cup of chai.
Don't be fooled by the presentation, the taste is pretty average. Paneer pinwheel curry was ok, and kofta curry was meh, as kofta itself was dry. The breads we ordered were chewy and hard to break. Simply amazing Indian fine dining in the heart of SOMA in San Francisco. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Service is professional, the food is top notch Indian fine dining and ambience is nice for such a place.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I enjoyed most of the food choices and they had plenty of options for everyone. The Dahi Sev Poori and their kofta were huge hits. Jackfruit tacos were unique. Will definitely return when I am in the area again
We were here on a Friday night to celebrate a friend's birthday. The service was gentle and attentive, and the ambiance was calm. We tried the Dahi puri and garlic crab as appetizer. Both were really impressive with balanced flavour. The main course we had butter chicken, lamb dishes with naan-- solid, classic tastes. Overall, the dishes were authentic, beautifully presented and full of flavor. I do not have too much experience with high-quality Indian cuisine, but I'd highly recommend ROOH.

We came here for a business lunch and we really had a great time! All the food we ordered were amazing and the atmosphere was nice and elegant - perfect for business gatherings. I also really enjoyed our services, our server was attentive and amazing. Our orders arrived in beautiful plating. Overall I would recommend the Tamarind Prawn and the Tawa Branzino over everything. The prawns were spicy and fresh and tender. The branzino was super tender and flavorful as well. Forgot to mention the Kurkure Maitake Mushroom - which is heavenly and meaty. Super great option to order! The butter chicken is what you'd expect and the Lamb Shank Nihari was good too if you like lamb. The chili cauliflower was good as well, can ask them to add more chili flakes if you like spicy foods. On top of that, the Dahi Puri had beautiful presentation, make sure to have your phones ready! We didn't order drinks because we were still going back to work in the afternoon. I have heard great things though, can't wait to go back and try.

My favorite new restaurant I've tried this year and the best Indian restaurant ever, this place blew me away with the execution on every dish. The standout was the chili crab - huge tender lumps of crab in a luscious sauce. The lamb and saffron rice were also fantastic. My date and I both loved the Old Monk cocktail with passion fruit. My team came here for a very nice group dinner and we generally enjoyed the experience. This was one of the few places we were able to book for a group right over 10 people (almost everywhere else we looked wanted a room rental / event fee for 10 and up) so the group size accommodation was a big plus. [[HIGHLIGHT]]That said, they seated us in 2 tables that were not connected but close by, so it was a bit challenging for the group to interact.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Also, they were strict on where the chairs could go (can't sit at the end of the table - we had 9 people show up on time including myself, and I put a chair on the end of one 8-person table so all of us could sit at one table until the rest arrived. I was told there needed to be 6 feet from any other guest seating by regulation, so 8 could sit at one table while 1 had to sit alone. 5 of us ended up squeezing into one side until the rest arrived, but this ask seemed unnecessarily inflexible.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We had two sets of the three course prix fixe (one table was vegetarian, so they selected different choices), which was more than enough for the whole group (ended up taking home leftovers). Other pros: [[HIGHLIGHT]]Beautiful decor, high end feeling.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Has a full bar, extensive cocktail menu with very showy drinks. One of them was presented in a glass belljar (think: rose from Beauty and the beast) and opened with mist flowing off of it. Portions are still large but presented artfully. We finished the first course not realizing that was only the first course! The food is flavorful and delicious but definitely didn't miss on looks as well. This place was soooooo good. We came after a long day of walking around the city and dropped by to have some pre-dinner snacks before we took the Caltrain home. We got some cocktails, Dahi puri, and split a Chili Cauliflower (maybe? I'm actually not sure, I thought this was a tofu dish but when I went to look at the menu online to confirm I didn't see any tofu dishes lol) Regardless, GET THE DAHI PURI. It's so delicious and the yogurt mousse is such an interesting twist on this classic Indian staple. Eat it in one bite for street cred! Service was very friendly, although we came at an off time so we were one of two parties in the restaurant. Ambiance was really good! I recently went to Rooh to celebrate a friend's birthday and it could not have been more perfect. From the start to finish, the entire experience was phenomenal. For starters, we had the Lamb Chops and the Chicken Meatballs in Truffle sauce, absolutely heaven. Perfectly cooked, rich and so full of flavour that they set the tone for the evening. For the mains, we ordered the Butter Chicken, Paneer Pinwheel and the Lamb Shank Nihari. While everything was delicious, the Nihari was hands down my favourite. Slow cooked, tender and deeply flavourful. It's a dish I would come back for again and again. Dessert was just as impressive. The Kaju Katli and Mango Shrikhand were both elegant and indulgent, the perfect sweet ending to an already Amazing meal. A special shoutout to your server, Pooja. She was incredible, warm, knowledgeable and made us feel so taken care or. She guided us through the menu with such thoughtfulness and even got us complementary dessert. She truly is the best. Good food good service, went here on Monday night and sat at the bar around 530 and was really excited to try this place out. Very friendly bartenders and the duri appetizer was, extremely different but really tasty! Only thing I didnt like was that the lamb shank entree took less then 5 minutes to bring to me after I ordered it, felt weird... some what off-putting. Garlic naan bread was delicious. Date of Visit: 8/16/2025 Visited Rooh together with my husband and friends on a Saturday in mid August. Visited Rooh a long time ago with a friend for Happy Hour, and had some great experiences with the cocktails. We made the reservation a few days before our visit, and we sat right away. The cocktail menu of Rooh was very special. All drinks were put on a wheel and separated with different tastes, including sweet, sour, bitter etc. Ramu's Fizz $17 Husband got the sour selection which was made with Vodka, Citrus Gin, and Grapefruit Juice, Cranberry, Passionfruit Water. On top it was Mascarpone Cheese and Egg White. Mango Tango $12 I got the non-alcoholic drink that was made with Mango, Yogurt, Green Cardamom, and decorated with Toasted Pistachios on top. Very creamy and smooth, and was great as a non-alcoholic drink. Box Office $17 Our friend got the bitter section, this cocktail was made with Popcorn Bourbon, Popcorn Syrup, Angostura Bitters, and Amul Butter Wash. Kumoan Swizzle $17 Last one is the sweet option, made with Vodka, Dom Benedicitins , Lime, Orange Juice, and Fig Jam. Dahi Puri $16 For appetizer, we got the Dahi Puri whith was made with semolina puff with yogurt mousse, containing flavors of avocado, tamarind, raspberry and mint. One piece in one bite and it was quite flavorful. Chili Paneer & Cojita Puff $20 Warm and crispy puff with Fig Chili Jam and Curry Leaves Thecha. Tandoori Lamb Chop $24 We also got the lamb chop. Decorated with masala Cous Cous and Marrow Sauce. Crispy Prawns $22 A little spicy crispy prawns as the appetizer was great. Fried Prawns marinated with Sweet Chili and Tamarind Sauce, and Wasabi Cream. Butter Chicken $30 For the main course, we got the butter chicken. The Tandori Roasted Chicken Thigh mixed with Smoked Tomato Makhani, very great with roti and naan. Wheat Roti $6 We ordered the roti. This one is more fluffy. Garlic Naan $6 Garlic naan smelled very good with garlic spiced. Katju Katli $16 For dessert, we got the traditional Indian dessert that was made with layered cashew cake, pistachio cream, and jaggery-peanut toffee. read more

I specifically love traveling for great food, and this spot had been on my list for a while--and it did not disappoint one bit. I also went with the butter chicken, which was absolutely delicious--rich, flavorful, and perfectly executed. The saffron rice paired beautifully with it. The only slight letdown was the garlic naan, which felt a bit undercooked for my liking. From the bar, I ordered the Guavalution, and not only did it taste amazing, but the presentation was incredible--definitely a standout. [[HIGHLIGHT]]ROOH gets one star for the ambience and one star for the service. The restaurant itself is absolutely beautiful, very high class, and thoughtfully designed.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The service was also solid and attentive. Unfortunately, that is where the positives end. The biggest disappointment by far was the food, which should obviously be the star here, and it completely missed the mark. We ordered the butter chicken, and it did not taste like butter chicken at all. It genuinely tasted like tomato soup with chicken in it. It was technically edible, but the flavor was completely wrong and honestly pretty nasty. We asked for a dessert recommendation and were told to try the Texture of Milk, which was a huge mistake. That dessert was really bad and genuinely disgusting. I would strongly advise anyone to skip it. The only dish we actually liked was the dahi puri, which is similar to pani puri but topped with yogurt instead of a juice filling. That dish was flavorful and enjoyable, but one decent appetizer does not save an entire meal. What makes this even worse is that the food is extremely overpriced for the quality. For how much they charge, the food should be exceptional, and instead it was some of the most disappointing Indian food we have had. At these prices, there is absolutely no excuse. Rooh is one of those spots where you take a bite and immediately know you made the right reservation. Everything was amazing. The puri puffs are a must. So flavorful and just fun to eat. The black daal was honestly my favorite. Rich, perfectly spiced, and super satisfying. Paired with the garlic naan? Obsessed. The naan was soft, buttery, and exactly what you want to scoop up every last bite. Also the guava mocktail deserves a shoutout. So refreshing and actually felt elevated, not overly sweet. I love when a mocktail feels intentional. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The vibe inside is beautiful and chic but still comfortable. The food was so fresh! I usually don't go to fine dine Indian restaurants, but this one just blew my mind. We ordered the pinwheel paneer, jackfruit tacos and khubani ka meetha. I didn't enjoy the khubani ka meetha as much because it had too much cardamom, and the order of cauliflower pakoras was very ordinary even though it tasted fresh. the rest of them were amazing. The jackfruit just crumbled in my mouth and it was a flavor bomb. Everything that I ordered was great. The seafood curry blowed my mind. It was flavorful and had a lot of high-quality seafood. It pairs well with naan bread or rice. The Puri was so good, and I was surprised by how light the cream was. read more
Amazing, fun indian food. The only dishes we didn't like were the dahi puri, which was super sweet and almost dessert like, and the lotus roots, which were too sweet. The daal was a stand out. Returned on a Thursday evening. We ordered only small dishes to share: Truffled Negroni (great if you like bitter drinks) Potato tikki 8/10 Mali meatballs w/truffle 6/10 Lamb chops 8/10 Maddur Vada 2/10 Crispy prawn 6/10 Kashmiri Nandru 8/10 Kaju Katli 7/10 The sweet chili glaze on the crispy prawns and on the Kashmiri Nandru's lotus stem chips were similar. Reminds me of the Thai sweet chili sauce in a bottle. I loved the crispiness of the lotus stem chips but found the glaze a bit too much. The Maddur Vada was a huge disappointment of the night. It was doughy and under seasoned. The black truffle items barely had any truffle aroma to them. The Mali meatballs were a bit salty. I've been here twice and I now have an idea what items I'd order again and which I'd pass. Service is still great. Items came out fast. However when I inquired about a particular ingredient in a dish the server had no knowledge of it and had to go into the kitchen to ask. This was not until after telling us the wrong thing first. It was a type of red pepper but he told us it was a pomegranate. Note: if you are here for any special occasion such as a birthday or anniversary, they do not acknowledge such when making a reservation on Open Table. read more
Never had fine dining Indian food before but Rooh lived up to the hype. Everything we ate here were beautifully presented and bursting with familiar Indian flavors. Outstanding, all around -- the food, service, ambiance, all impressive. We have been to this restaurant a few times and enjoyed it each time. If you like unique flavor combinations, Rooh will certainly please your palate. Last night we enjoyed the Dahi Puri, Butter Chicken Kulcha, Potato Tiki and Crispy Okra. To accompany the food we opted for the Mumbai Chai; I recommend at least one person at the table order this for its spectacular presentation. I love chai anything, so this is also my fave drink. Take note-- on a Monday night there was a wait at the door. Being two of us only, we were able to walk and seat ourselves at the bar; you want to ask the host first before doing that. Got to come back here a second time for a group dinner and it was fabulous once again! I'm a huge fan of everything on their menu that I've tried. Came here for my birthday last week and I have a lot to say. At first, I wanted to give this place 4 stars because I did enjoy my meal but Indian food is my favorite food so, for sake of relativity, I adjusted to 3 stars. Because FOR Indian food (the best food ever I think), this is 3 stars and I've had much better. The food came out before the drinks (I got a mango lassi with rum, girlfriend got a sprite) which already was a bit worrisome. The food definitely came out concerningly fast and I think that already established some uneasiness for the meal. However, the mango lassi was very good and I liked the pistachios sprinkled on top. Starting with the butter chicken, this butter chicken had a pretty tomato forward sauce and I was looking for something creamier. It was delicious, as it's butter chicken, but it's far from the best I've had. Chicken was moist but not as tender as I'm used to, sauce could've been much creamier. The paneer pinwheel didn't blow me away either. The sauce on this one was better and actually tasted creamier (I preferred this sauce with the rice and naan) but the paneer was pretty standard and other than the chutney, I wasn't getting strong flavors from the other two in the trio (saffron and I forgot the other flavor). A bit disappointed but still had a great night. The ambiance is beautiful, great location in the lively SoMa, good and attentive service, and I would like to give it another try one day! A bit expensive though so I think I'll stick to Om on Haight for a while. read more

There is street parking. At the time of day I went (5-515pm) , there wasn't a problem.

On the side street there is public parking.
Is it possible to bring a small dog?
If you choose to sit outside, not inside they won't allow it
Any no onion no garlic vegetarian option?
Yes they do offer limited options in no onion no garlic veg food. We had a Dahi Puri, Paneer vegetable (off the menu) and a Pulao. Everything was custom made and delicious. You can read my review for more details.

There were a couple vegan options, when we visited. There might also be a couple they could leave out the yogurt mousse from, to make it vegan.

Yeah .. I took my 9 month old with me .. it's just like any other restaurant where you will get the baby seat ..
